Hi Guys,
I seem to have a few issues with my phone or the rooting methods.
Rooting Method 1
- unlock bootloader
- Install cwm or twrp
- root using "RAZR i Root 2 (Jellybean 4.1.2)"
Problem is once these steps have been completed my phone is rooted however, I cannot install al custom roms. I get an error 7 message on cwm and a bootloop on twrp.
FYI - if I dont root I aslo get an error 7 message hence the thinking that its a rooting issue.
If I then unroot and intall JB 4.1.2 and follow the next method:
Rooting Method 2
- root using TwerMyMoto
- unlcok bootloader
- install cwm or twrp
- root using "RAZR i Root 2 (Jellybean 4.1.2)"
I get the same errors for both recoveries.
Does anyone have any idea how I can root and install a custom rom.
PS could it also be the un-rooting that is not allowing me to re-root the rom correctly?
Thanks for any advice/help
Have you tried wiping everything (system,dalvik,data,recovery,...) then flashing another version of the recovery you have ( CWM or TWRP ) and then flashing a rom?

The first methode should do the trick easy. But u got a status 7 error from the recovery. It means that some asserts dont match. Search in google for: cwm error 7. The first link will explain your problem and give u a solution.
The second methode is unnecessary. The only thing u chanced was rooting the stock rom before doing the same thing again. Recovery has nothing to do with root acces. And root has nothing to do with recovery. But recovery can give it to the rom if u give the right packages as root can give u a recovery when unlocked and when giving the right commands and packages.
What u need to do now:
- Install a recovery
- Use the fix for the "cwm error 7" to fix your downloaded rom package
- Install the package
Always make a backup!

Thanks but I have tried this method without luck.
I have also noticed that if I un-lock bootloader using EU not UK, I no longer get the error 7 but all roms install fully but I cannot boot as they bootloop. I think there is an issue with the way I re-lock the bootloader using a method by HSD-Pilot. Can I re-lock using RSD-Lite without bricking my phone???

I can't root my I9305. It goes well in the Odin but then when i try to flash the root package via recovery it's not working. I try to get to the recovery and instead of CWM recovery which i flashed it shows the stock recovery (the android with red ! ). Then when i try to flash the root package it shows some error and reboots to the system. Now i don't have root and don't know what to do now. Can anyone help?

Yesterday I was trying to install vanir room to my p880 after 10 hours I rooted the phone and unlock the bootloader then installed cwm but after reboot I get stuck on logo so I used kdz and load LGP880AT-00-V20a-262-000-MAR-26-2013+0 with (after 4 hours ) then i try using twrp and finally load the room (vanir_p880_4.4.4.112414.zip) and Gapps after rebooting I started getting crashes ( aosp keyboard, com.google, home and back buttons etc didn't work)
so again kdz then i try other room Paranoid but the same thing..
What I'm doing wrong? I used factory reset, wipe etc but same results
what gapps you flashed?

I don't really know what happened, did you successfully flashed kdz?
Where did you get it from? Here?: http://lg-phone-firmware.com/index.php?id_mod=15
Try to flash one of these (choose correct one for you)
Than you have to install recovery again.
But before that you can try to wipe /system, /data, /cache and then flash CM11 (I know it works without problems)
And I recommend you these Gapps: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2397942

I think you should try with CWM first, get it: http://download2.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.4.5-p880.img
you can flash it with this app if you are rooted: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cgollner.flashify
then you can download CM11 from here: http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=p880
and gapps from last mine post
and then boot to recovery, do factory reset and wipe /system, then flash rom and gapps.
Hope it helps
Crash After Flash OTA Vanir 5.0
I had a similar experience. I was installing OTA latest update of Vanir...not realising that it was 5.0...a screen came up telling me that it needed to flash another recovery...not realising why it needed that, I ignored the request to flash. Of course, I then "bricked" the phone. I was able to install the original JB 4.12 (v20c) back onto the phone but now it won't root. I've tried almost every method in this forum to no avail.:
ADB just gives a message "error: closing" when I use the boot.exe method
o4xr method does nothing
all-in-one method also does nothing
ADB does recognise the device. Drivers are installed. Any help is welcome!

Have you tried to flash a recovery using fastboot? You won't need to root (if you are going to use a custom ROM) and/or it will be easier with a custom recovery
Soft brick after last update.
Hello,
I seem to have a similar problem. I updated a few days ago using Vanir updater. There were no warnings re updating the recovery, just a warning regarding losing root. I checked restore root. The phone rebooted to the bootloader logo, then to a black screen. Now, I can access Cyanogen recovery, SW update mode, abd fastboot mode using buttons and the recovery options. ADB can see the phone only in recovery mode, but not in fastboot or SW update mode. CM recovery has no option to mount USB storage, so my PC cannot see the phone, and I cannot side load a new recovery and flash a new ROM.
Is there any way to use ADB if it cannot see your phone in fastboot or SW mode? Perhaps modify the settings.secure string to enable ADB? ADB can see the phone in recovery mode.
Otherwise I will try flashing a stock ROM via KDZ or LG firmware update tool, the re-root and proceed - but rooting was a major ordeal the first time, so I would like to avoid doing that again.
Thanks in advance.
I recently updated to lollipop 5.0.2 today I decided to try and root the m7 but I am having some issues
I have followed all the instructions correctly but I cannot seem to achieve root access
I have unlocked boot loader from HTC dev site and tried rooting via cwm and twrp installed via fastboot
Hboot is 1.61
Everything seems to go fine and gives no Errors but yet won't achieve root
With twrp I can never get it to ask me to gain root either
I'm sure it is something simple I am missing but I am stump at the moment
I am also s on not sure if that matters because I ublocked boot loader on HTC dev
Anyone?
This is driving me mad

Flash TWRP 2.8.5.0 http://techerrata.com/file/twrp2/m7/openrecovery-twrp-2.8.5.0-m7.img
(TWRP not CWM)
then flash this zip from within TWRP recovery http://download.chainfire.eu/696/SuperSU
complete root setup once the phone has booted back to android by opening SuperSU
Ill give that a go now and see what happens
I have that version of twrp and I have tried that supersu before
Everything completes with no errors but it will not gain root
Ill try again now though
I can't belie've it
IT WORKED!!!!!! I now give root access
Thank you so much its been driving me insane.
I think I may have tried v1 of that super su file which did the same as v2 but wouldn't gain root
Just had a problem after using root toolkit to attempt root on nexus 6 with marshmellow. (6.0 ), build MRA58R. After this attempt, got the message that" device is corrupted" and would not boot into system. Luckily bootloader was still unlocked and was able to flash stock image. Phone boots fine now with Boatloader unlcocked, and TWRP is gone, with no root. How do I root from here and install TWRP again without going through what happened before.
In the beginners guide to root, Chanifire's link hasn't been working and I want to be sure I do this right to avoid what happened with the toolkit. Also, my phone is setup with apps and data, and I dont't want to loose my setup.
Thanks for your help.

You don't flash with adb, but with fastboot.
The steps are:
1. Turn on phone with pressing vol down and power.

Hello,
I recently got a Sony Xperia SP which has never been rooted before. It has the original Sony ROM with build number 12.1.A.1.201. I would like to root this phone. I tried every tool I could find on this forum, amongst other the Doomlord toolkit and towelroot. However, none of these tools was able to give me root access according to root checker apps. It seems that with my current ROM, the exploits that these tools use have been patched. Flashing TWRP as recovery does not work: the command "fastboot flash recovery twrp.img" fails with a message "Partition not found".
Could you guys recommend a strategy to root this phone without bricking it? I was thinking to flash an older ROM, root it, and then update to the new ROM. However, I don't know where to find older ROMs for my phone. Also, how do I backup my current ROM if I cannot install TWRP first? Thanks for helping me out here!
Simon
