Ive recently purchased EVO, rooted and working. I have a Sprint HTC Hero, I would like for it to work on a US Cellular account. Is this called unlocking? Can it be done, if so please point me in the right direction, thank you.
We call it hacking here not usually unlocking for Sprint / USCC units. There are really 3 things you'll need to do this
1. The MSL (Master Subsidy Lock) of your Sprint Hero. This is a 6-digit code that only Sprint can give you, unless it was written down during activation or for another procedure. Edit: Thanks to kyouko for providing an easier way to obtain the MSL
2. U.S. Cellular's provisioning for your area. This is information would be programmed into the Hero in order for the phone to connect to US Cellular rather than Sprint.
3. "Connections" - US Cellular will most likely NOT activate a phone that they don't sell. Unless you know someone that works for USCC, this might be the hardest step.
Also, just a recommendation that if you haven't yet, root and flash the Hero to a cleaner ROM than the Sprint one on there.
Hey thanks alot thats the information I needed.
My pleasure. Happy hacking and good luck! If there's anything you need explained further or if you're stuck somewhere, let us know
quick question- is it possible if I root my old OG Droid that my friend who lost her EVO could then call sprint and do an ESN change and use that on Sprints network? Or is there some unlock code I need from Verizon to unlock the phone so Sprint could activate it? Or is this even possible lol?
Thanks

Possible? Yes, it is technically possible. Finding a Sprint CSR to do this for you (and likely lose their job as a result) is another thing though . My best advice would be to insist that it is a Sprint branded device, even though I'm sure they'll tell you the ESN lookup brings back a Moto Droid. I will say that it is extremely unlikely you will get this cleared for use on Sprint.
Best thing to do is give it a shot. The worst they can tell you is no. And if for some reason they do say yes, you'll need to obtain the manual programming information from Sprint. Dialing ##7764726 under the phone app and inputting password 000000 should bring you to the appropriate menus to input that information.
Providing you actually found a "good CSR" who lets you do this, be extremely patient and courteous to them and don't dare pushing them to waive the activation fee...
cool thank you!
hello, i recently aquired a motorola droid bionic. it is on the verizon network and i am on the att network. is there a way to unlock the phone to att without a verizon sim?
i did a good bit of searching to see if a verizon phone would work on att network, but the anwsers seem to be quite contradicting.

HI everyone,
i bought HTC Desire 510 from virgin Mobile US, but i lived in Dubai and want to use his phone here. whenever i put local sim it show invalid sim. is their any way to use local sim card in this phone. Please Senior member and xda devs reply this thread.
thank you
Your phone is locked to Virgin Mobile so your going to have to get it carrier unlocked before you can use any other carrier. You can do this by paying Virgin Mobile to do it or there are various online sources that can unlock it also for a small fee. I'm also not sure about the frequencies that the phone runs on in the USA vs Dubai so it may have issues with that. Good luck.
CDMA htc's are very easy to unlock. Check htc one m8 and m7. But it must be rooted first. So far, no root method has been detailed. So just chill

HTC Desire 510 Virgin USA
Hi there,
I wish to know if you guys would suggest some methods or tweaks that I can use to HTC Desire 510 Virgin Mobile.
This is a no contract phone with Virigin Mobile USA.
I purchased an unlock code from another service provider online. Followed the steps. When I insert another active sim card, it does not prompt me to enter the Unlock Code and the phone keeps saying Invalid Sim.
Would you guys be able to help.

Hello!
I've activated the phone by standart Boostmobile way:
Enable wifi, connect to internet,
found at google the Boostmobile's page for activating new phones,
entered where two codes from phone paper box, enter my info (names, emails, etc), paid minimal possible amount of money (10 usd), received email from BoostMobile
with my new US telephone Boostmobile number and account pin, several codes, including MSL...
After reboot, the phone said that he is activated now, setuped voicemail, installed some updates (all it via WiFi), changes wallpaper...
But now I don't know where MSL enter to.
And I still not sure what my Boostmobile HTC Desire 510 phone have GSM-compatible radio...
I've wrote to Boostmobile support about using MSL and connecting to europian GSM networks, they answered something about - "wait for 11th Februaury 2015, we'll something about unlocking..."
So, now where isn't a solution.

I've found some engineer's menus, where phone asks for MSL codes, and it suites.
For example , # # 3282 #
But I still don't know where is menu for unlocking SIM slot for using with GSM networks.

I have got this phone from US and it is locked on Virgin network.
Rite now i am trying to unlock this phone in India but this is not activated , is there any way I can get MSL code
Getting the MSL Code is fairly easy. Root your phone and download the Get MSL app. Run it and BOOM! you will have your MSL.
Its possible that it doesn't work in the first go. Run the app again and it should work.

This method worked for me http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2239963
please were you able to unlock the HTC 510 via msl and how did you do that? I'm thinking buying this phone for my little sister and was wondering if it can be unlocked. I contacted an unlocking service provider who said if the phone doesn't ask for unlock code, then it's not possible to unlock it. I don't know if this is true.
I got prepaid sprint g flex called sprint and got the MSL code. I put in different sim and didn't prompt me to enter the code. I was wondering does anyone know where to input code?
