HIs and Hers Moto X: what happens when you talk? - Moto X Q&A

So you have his and her's Moto X sitting on their respective nightstands across the bed from each other. You say "OK Google... remind me to buy penis wash!"
What happens? Do both of them activate and add the reminder? Can you train them?

They are trained to your voice. It can be fooled if voices are similar but I haven't had any false positives yet.

My fiance and I both have Moto Xs. They seem to be pretty good about who is speaking as we haven't had a single issue. The only time mine fired at someone else's voice was once while listening to Android Central's podcast. It seems Phil and I sound alike.

My roommate has been trying to get mine to trigger on his voice since I got it, and it hasn't yet. I think we sound somewhat similar, and he's tried to imitate me and it doesn't work. If I alter my voice a little bit (higher or lower) it doesn't always work either.
I was pretty happy with how well it worked in a loud bar last night as well. The football game was on, lots of people around making noise, etc. I was holding my phone with my hands resting on the table (18-20" from my face and said "OK Google Now" in my normal speaking volume, and then said my search term, and it worked fine.

Speaker crackling?

Had my Nexus 7 for about 3 days now, and love it to death. Something i've found, though, is even when the volume is muted, the speaker still makes a definite pop when i turn the screen on or off, or at random. I thought it was the "touch sound", so i disabled that in the sound settings, but it's still persisting, even when the volume is completely muted.
I'm running the EOS rom, but it happened back on stock as well, and i'm wondering if it might be a defect or just a setting
Bumping with extra details, it always makes a popping sound when I close or open tabs in Chrome.

I noticed occasional crackling when playing YouTube videos. So far it has not been bad enough for me to want to return it, hopefully it's not a hardware problem.

What i'm afraid of is that Google won't have any units left to exchange if it is indeed a defect, being a 16gig and all

Google has set aside a large amount of N7s separately from their Play Store stock specifically for exchanges. If you think you have a defective unit, call them and do an RMA. It's a headache dealing with them though, I can tell you that much. They certainly were not prepared to handle the popularity of the N7, even they will admit that.

This is very good to know, I'll call them right away. I'm looking around and seeing similar threads, so it must be a common defect

[Q] Has anyone gotten complaints about call quality from the person on the other end?

I'm hoping this problem is just one bad handset and not epidemic, but I have been hearing VERY consistently from other people that they are having trouble understanding what I'm saying. It is not location specific, I generally have full or nearly full service, and I can hear them just perfectly. But I have been hearing from many people that I talk to about this problem.
I'm going to exchange the phone and get a replacement, assuming this is just my phone and not an HTC ONE problem. Has anybody else been hearing this? If so I may regretfully end up with an S4 =\
I have been having issues as well. Just tried to exchange for an S4 at sprint store and they wanted $35 dollar re-stocking fee. Going to deal with online/phone people now. My HTC One is dropping calls, calls are not clear, and lower data connection in the same environment than my old EVO Shift. Wanted the phone to work out, just didn't.

Mine is working beautifully call quality is awesome on both ends and data conection was faster here in boston when put up against my buddy's s4 (also sprint) there were some issues with speakers and radios on some of the HTC ones... mostly the first batch that went out to people who pre-ordered, myself included, but so far i'm issue free.
be warry of that s4 you picked up by the way many people have reported display issues... don't worry though I believe they are software side... people reported black bars appearing on the screen when scrolling I'm pretty sure it's a simple software bug.

Didn't have one for the first 5 days, had it the last 2.. same problems consistent throughout.
i'll confess I use a Bluetooth headset, but the very rare occasion I use the handset I've never had an issue
I was having the same problem, then I realized my pinky was always covering up the microphone. Went 2 days where people were like I can barley hear ya.

It wasn't the pinky for me. As I stated in another thread, I think it's something to do with over-aggressive or poorly handled background noise cutting, or a major problem with dynamic range control going from loud to soft etc.
started actually using the phone for phone calls this week..I'm hearing "its hard to hear you" and "you sound far away" more then I've ever heard before...
It's definitely not the point for me. It happens all the time, most of my calls are using a airave so I'm wondering if that had something to do with it.
Anyone know if this is a sprint related issue? Should I be exchanging my phone?

[Q] How is the voice/call quality of the Moto X?

I have a question about the "phone" part of the Moto X. I've seen a bunch reviews on this device, which everyone still refers to as a "phone", and only two of them have mentioned call quality. One said it is "second to none" in voice quality and the other said the HTC One was better citing the Moto X as sounding robotic....which is actually my experience with the HTC One. My last phone was the Motorola XPRT, which I thought sounded really good, with decent reception as well.
So which is it? Has anyone around here made any calls on an X, on the Sprint Network by chance?
Don't think the phone has been officially sold yet. Maybe the end of the month for sprint to get it.

I watched a video of a review of the phone from phonedog and the guy said that the call quality was excellent and had no issues ever with it cutting out.
call quality ?
i believe its better then htc one

Quote [ " I've seen a bunch reviews on this device, which everyone still refers to as a "phone"] Why would they not call it a phone ? It is a phone. I still need a cellphone for phone calls. So do others . Use one as a regular phone.Only phone I have . We still need phones you know. I can just see myself texting my Doctors office or talking to my banker on text. That would be hilarious. I use my smartphone to Call my doctor , my banker , my friends , my family , and for all calls. So I would call it a phone.
To be honest, all smartphones these days have excellent call quality.

i didnt read the thread but from the title all i need to say is that it is a motorola. if they perfected anything over the years, its call quality.

You still call all these people? My banking is online, my doctor takes reservations online, texting friends is easier. I guess you might still want to talk to family.
Well of course I do . I do have online banking , but there comes a time when you need to TALK to someone. Besides , I hate texting with a passion and don't do it except as two or three words. Never but never do I carry on a conversation in a txt. No way . I'll leave that one to you.
I have the Maxx...call quality is excellent. If i had any complaint would be that it could have one volume setting higher. Not a deal breaker though.

Ya, my Motorola XPRT was loud and clear. I'm hoping for that in the Moto X.....
Considering these have all the same components other than battery and screen, I would expect they will be comparable.

Awesome....

So just before Christmas I bought a second hand Gear from Gumtree. Looked as new and works fine.
My wife, just shakes her head at me and keeps asking 'why'. Yes, like many of us on here, I do have a thing for gadgets.
She doesn't see the point of notifications etc on the watch.
Anyway, while having a meal in her parents house we were at the dining table and I'd left my Note 3 over in the lounge. I had a call come in... Was one of my colleagues from work. I answered the call via the watch just to say I'm eating and will call back.
To my shock the wife said "I have to say... That's pretty Awesome like"
Made my day that did and thought I'd share.

Yea people do not understand until they actually experience the watch for themselves. Once I got my watch setup they I wanted I find myself relying on it more than the actual smartphone

My wife is not a big tech person either, but she sees the benefits, and so many people out in public have asked about the watch, even when it was just on my wrist, but unlit, that the "cool factor" is definitely there. The reviews do not mean anything, as some online are still "writing" about it not do proper notifications, even though that was patched a month ago for most.

Someone at my job asked me if it did anything that blew me away. Not really, but the convenience of it is remarkable. I like being able to initiate a call in my car without having to take my attention away from driving. Once connected, I simply switch the call Bluetooth through my radio. I like being able to reject a call while in a meeting. I also like people asking " Is that one of those computer watches?". I'm still stock. My geek squad (teenage sons) are going to help me with mods.
Loving it
I work in a luxury jewelry store. I'm the service manager and I'm frequently asked by clients to help them set their Patek Philippe, Audimar Piquet or jaeger lecoultre watches. We are talking $70,000.00 watches folks... everytime they see my Gear I get compliments!

Hello?

Yea, that'd be so awesome.
It's surprising as I said, more so now that I've had some time with the watch because it's actually pretty good. I get all day battery life, the watch does a decent job of keeping track of my gym time, I find the assistant useful since I mostly use it to set timers, alarms, various simple things play well on the watch that would have been an assistant search or activity on the phone. Lists, notes, recipes, all work well on the watch. An example would be grocery lists, it's nice to walk through the store while simply glancing at the watch instead of pulling the phone.
All similar to what I did with my previous smartwatches but it all works better here due to the combination of (more fluid) hardware pushing the GUI, AW 2.0, along with the rotating crown to quickly scroll. It's not a huge difference but for me it's pushed smartwatch use into a place where I put my watch on in the morning because I want to, not because I tell myself to use it. My day now includes getting schit done with it, before it really didn't.
Anyhow I hope you gents can pick one up soon. It's so dead here I've stopped checking to see if there was anything interesting to learn.

From what I understand, I do in order to use LTE. I can get it from Verizon or the Google store, neither have them in stock.
Nah, both Verizon and AT&T are bands 2,4, and 5 as is the watch sold on the Google store. Others are reporting it working, do a search to verify but I think your watch is a few clicks away.

That's what i was thinking too
So I ended up buying one from AT&T. When the Verizon rep scanned the IMEI it said invalid. From what I've heard you have to put a SIM in that's already activated for it to work. Some Verizon Reps will do it, some won't. I'll keep you posted as to what I end up doing. I'm happy with it, without LTE.
UPDATE: I put in my SIM out of my tablet, and everything is working as it should.
