I have a question about the "phone" part of the Moto X. I've seen a bunch reviews on this device, which everyone still refers to as a "phone", and only two of them have mentioned call quality. One said it is "second to none" in voice quality and the other said the HTC One was better citing the Moto X as sounding robotic....which is actually my experience with the HTC One. My last phone was the Motorola XPRT, which I thought sounded really good, with decent reception as well.
So which is it? Has anyone around here made any calls on an X, on the Sprint Network by chance?
Don't think the phone has been officially sold yet. Maybe the end of the month for sprint to get it.

Quote [ " I've seen a bunch reviews on this device, which everyone still refers to as a "phone"] Why would they not call it a phone ? It is a phone. I still need a cellphone for phone calls. So do others . Use one as a regular phone.Only phone I have . We still need phones you know. I can just see myself texting my Doctors office or talking to my banker on text. That would be hilarious. I use my smartphone to Call my doctor , my banker , my friends , my family , and for all calls. So I would call it a phone.
To be honest, all smartphones these days have excellent call quality.

i didnt read the thread but from the title all i need to say is that it is a motorola. if they perfected anything over the years, its call quality.

You still call all these people? My banking is online, my doctor takes reservations online, texting friends is easier. I guess you might still want to talk to family.
Well of course I do . I do have online banking , but there comes a time when you need to TALK to someone. Besides , I hate texting with a passion and don't do it except as two or three words. Never but never do I carry on a conversation in a txt. No way . I'll leave that one to you.
I have the Maxx...call quality is excellent. If i had any complaint would be that it could have one volume setting higher. Not a deal breaker though.

Ya, my Motorola XPRT was loud and clear. I'm hoping for that in the Moto X.....
Considering these have all the same components other than battery and screen, I would expect they will be comparable.

I love my friend to death I really do, but to get him to think outside the box is impossible! I have a Droid X which I have mixed emotions on and was trying to have a conversation with him on the next phone to get. Knowing what was about ready to come out of his mouth I kept an open mind as I like Iphones, but I also like to keep my options open.
I was trying to tell him if the next Iphone that comes out doesn't have features that the newer phones are coming out with then Apple is going to seriously be behind the times. His answer to this? "Doesn't matter if the Iphone 5 has less features than the 4 because it will sell." I'm sorry, last time I checked I wasn't asking about a phone's sells I was asking about a phone that was packed with features. Then he starts to ramble about battery life and what isn't needed in a phone for a year or two down the line blah blah blah.
So thanks to him, I am probably not going to get a new phone EVER. Instead of talking me into a new Iphone, he has convinced me that all phones are complete and utterly useless.
I've learned to never ask an iPhone person for phone advice.
Next time he rambles, just let him go off and when he finishes, say, "Did you say something? I was too busy watching Transformers on my luxurious 4.3" screen to notice."
Lol. That reminds me of this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FL7yD-0pqZg
When I got sick of my 3gs I got an HTC Evo and tried to get my friend into android but it was impossible. Now over a year later he finally wants a Galaxy S 2!
I know people with iPhone's ... we don't really talk about phones much. We do our own thing and, when going out, focus on the drinking.
It is what it is.

I came from an iPhone myself. I was an open minded iPhone user though. One day I decided to buy an Inspire and now I'll never go back. maybe he just needs to try one out?
iPhones are meh, but the iSack Grope looks decent as a media player.
That movie is hilarious!!
iPhone users will not accept that their behind the curve. No matter what though it will sell.

From day one I had dropped calls, sometimes as many as five in the same 10 minute call ! Considering that my previous phone never dropped calls at my location, I was immediately suspicious. Did the required checks with TMO regarding towers and reception. They sent a replacement phone. Dropped calls were actually worse on the replacement phone. TMO declined any further action, suggesting I should call LG. LG stated categorically that they had no reports of any problems like what I was having.
So I have been forced to return the phone for full credit, reversing the required two year contract and I am back on my trusty Vibrant.
Don't know what I will do now. Unbelievable. Selling phones that don't work as phones.

Believe it or not, the I9000 is a solid phone. My Bell Canada Vibrant is still kicking ass with latest 4.2.1 nightlies from the CM team. My daily driver is the Nexus 4 these days. Stock from Google, just boot loader unlocked and rooted. Too bad it didn't work out for you.

So ONLY YOU out of thousands of phones sold have the problem, and yet you accuse them of creating a phone that doesn't work? Narcissistic much?
ive made hundreds of calls with this phone, only like 1 dropped call and i think that might have been on their end. im in a good service area but this phone seems especially good reception wise because i have made calls in spotty coverage areas and they have been great. LG wasnt lying when they said that they dont know of this issue

I live just outside Dallas, I get good coverage, a little shoddy at times inside buildings, but never any real problems. Especially as I get closer in to the populated areas where towers seem to be more frequent/powerful.
There are many things about this phone I am not thrilled with (battery life!) but reception and call reliability is not one of them. It is far better than my previous phone on TMO and better than my work phone (Incredible 2) on Verizon.
Omg. Why with these pointless threads. I'm no developer or such. But my god.....
Its an android phone that has a lot of techno and great performance. Of course it will not be great on battery . a lot of ppl buying this phone seem to think its the ultimate phone .. Either deal with it or buy a Nokia 3310.....
And the screen scratching and breaking its not indestructable ... It'll protect to an extent .
As for the op blaming his phone out of the bucket load sold.I've not heard of 1 instance (I work in a phone shop ) ... I've had mine since day 1 along with a work colleague.
We both have no yellow tint issue.
No random cracks (that just happen) .
No speaker or mic issue.
I rooted mine straight out the box and running faux kernel and aokp ROM . battery I have just seen my best yet at 2 days and 14 hours.....
Use on WiFi all the time. Moderate net browsing. Ebay.mail. few hundred texts. 25 mins of calls.....
I can't understand why ppl post bad things that effects all new phones, but yet there's threads and threads of this and that. .... Its a phone ...
Op I know you proberly mean well but its just constant now . I use to come on here a lot to see how development and cool new things and new info are in progress. All I see now is
Threads about
This issue .that issue. Oh my screen randomly broke.battery's terrible. Screen is not gorilla glass as it has a scratch.
Any way all the best what ever phone you decide next .

The only problem I have on my nexus 4 in regards to calls is that sometimes the phone doesn't ring?
I'll dial someone and i'll wait the usual amount of time, but with no ring and all of a sudden a here the person say, "hello".
So the phone is dialing, but there is do ringing? Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Weird.

I call bull. T-Mobile sent a replacement nexus 4???? I know they are supposed to start selling them soon. But this would mean you already bought one from T-Mobile. Then used it enough to know it sucked. Then waited for a replacement... So you bought one from T-Mobile before they announced they were selling it? Or you convinced then to give you a replacement just cause?

I bought the phone online from TMobile in early December. I immediately had dropped calls. Reported it to T mobile and they told me they were going to send a replacement, which also didn't work. I am not sure why you can't follow this simple explanation. Perhaps you should put down the drink, turn off the porn and try reading, you do know how to read don't you ?

I never said I was the only one. LG implied that I was the only one when I called them. The two phones I got just didn't work. That's all and that is a disappointment. I am glad that many of you have phones that do work. However there are quite a few that don't for various and multiple reasons. I think your hostility is inappropriate and revealing of a projection from your dark side that doesn't,t belong in this forum.

I'm hoping this problem is just one bad handset and not epidemic, but I have been hearing VERY consistently from other people that they are having trouble understanding what I'm saying. It is not location specific, I generally have full or nearly full service, and I can hear them just perfectly. But I have been hearing from many people that I talk to about this problem.
I'm going to exchange the phone and get a replacement, assuming this is just my phone and not an HTC ONE problem. Has anybody else been hearing this? If so I may regretfully end up with an S4 =\
I have been having issues as well. Just tried to exchange for an S4 at sprint store and they wanted $35 dollar re-stocking fee. Going to deal with online/phone people now. My HTC One is dropping calls, calls are not clear, and lower data connection in the same environment than my old EVO Shift. Wanted the phone to work out, just didn't.

Mine is working beautifully call quality is awesome on both ends and data conection was faster here in boston when put up against my buddy's s4 (also sprint) there were some issues with speakers and radios on some of the HTC ones... mostly the first batch that went out to people who pre-ordered, myself included, but so far i'm issue free.
be warry of that s4 you picked up by the way many people have reported display issues... don't worry though I believe they are software side... people reported black bars appearing on the screen when scrolling I'm pretty sure it's a simple software bug.

It wasn't the pinky for me. As I stated in another thread, I think it's something to do with over-aggressive or poorly handled background noise cutting, or a major problem with dynamic range control going from loud to soft etc.
started actually using the phone for phone calls this week..I'm hearing "its hard to hear you" and "you sound far away" more then I've ever heard before...
It's definitely not the point for me. It happens all the time, most of my calls are using a airave so I'm wondering if that had something to do with it.
Anyone know if this is a sprint related issue? Should I be exchanging my phone?
I know this is about the PHONE...but its quality and likableness have been dramatically reduced by the awful Motorola customer service. Thus far I have yet received one workable solution. On the phone they normally kick me to another department or play some robot answer. With live chat and email I always get the exactly the same answer...sorry about the inconvenience, we will our best to assist and then lots of phone numbers being listed.
And all accessories do not deliver on time...
Am I alone on this?
No. Not alone
Customer service has been absolutely horrible for quite a few people.
They really need to train the call center people better, give them more power to solve problems.
Never promise to call someone back. Putting them on hold until someone can get on the line to solve the problem is always better.
Good customer support is becoming more and more rare these days. I think the only people who have been helpful is the GoDaddy phone support... and support for a Wordpress plugin called Nimble Porfolio. They're awesome. Everything else has been so disappointing... AT&T, Motorola, Google, etc etc. You name it, chances are their customer support sucks.

Looking into my wifi issue, they asked if I had another phone I could talk to them on while I wiped the cache partition. When I asked if they could call me in an hour (I had no idea how long it would really take me and was growing tired of their BS) they said I had to call back.
Granted this was after I almost ripped level 1's head off because my cat had accidentally run across the keyboard, deleting the reference number and they couldn't find it again and actually admonished me for losing it. ("If you had kept the number you'd already be talking to level 2 sir")
I've given up on Moto support, just going off what I find here.
Oh and the chat said the Idle Battery Drain issue was "Common to all Android Phones"
I agree with you guys customer service has been horrible. I ordered my Moto X through Moto Maker on the 1st and recieved my phone on the 5th. Which was awesome except the phone they sent me was defective. The touch screen would not repsond to touch. I actually am not able to turn it off (It's still on right now) I called customer service and they did not believe me that the phone was bad right out of the box and they asked me if i dropped it and asked me to reboot and do all sorts of stuff to the phone even though I kept telling them the touch screen was not responsive. They finally gave me 2 options the fast way or the slow way. They said I could pay full price for a new phone and send back the defective one and once they got that they would refund me. My second option was to mail back my new defective phone and wait a week or 2 until they send me the new code to order another phone. After I told them I'm not sure of their quality anymore the operator assured me the new phone they were sending me would be guaranteed to work. I asked why my first phone wasn't guaranteed to work she politely informed me that they were still not sure if it didn't work and that I may not know how to use my phone.
This customer service experience is sad and I expected more for Motorola besides a $ 25 Google play gift card. Now I'm out $1,000 and still don't have a working Moto X.

The "user is an idiot" is a typical mind set in ATT/Motoland
i can't even begin to describe the scars i have from dealing with their Support. it's chaotic and confusing.
I was going to buy the Razr M but after doing some research it seems that it was plagued by GSM and wifi antenna issues. I cant seem to find any info online regarding the antennas on the Razr I, does anyone out there know if the Razr I suffers from the same issues or is it likely to be more reliable?
Any info/help would be gratefully received, I am about to make the big leap from dumb to smart phone and need all the help i can get - everyone i know here just tells me to get a samsung, but i am interested in something with a little more quality and maybe not so high specs.
Thanks...
Don't get a Samsung, I'll tell you that much. I've been using a Razr I on att for majority of the year now, and I've found the antenna to be... Adequate. I get a lot of dropped calls and sometimes texts don't come in until hours after they were sent. Still, this seldom happens. And, I think the crappy cell service in my area is largely to blame. I would still recommend it. This phone is quite speedy, ang the battery is absolutely phenomenal.

Thanks for the info, i also live in an area with poor signal, currently i have to walk out to my gate to send a text. I was hoping to get one with a good antenna so maybe i could text from indoors. (occasionaly my old nokia will text from inside). That was why i looked at motorolas in the first place because they are supposed to have the best antennas. maybe i should think about the dreaded ifone, yuk.
I was prepared to live with the crappy camera and ****ty speaker, but this may be a deal breaker for me, although there just are no other phones i know of with these specs in this size.
Look for a cellphone repeater. This will allow you to use any cellphones in your house without any problem, as long as you choose the right one for your application.
