Sense 5.5 or Google Edition - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am curious to see what people use and why. I like Sense 5.5 because of the camera, Gallery and sense 5.5 toolkit, but I don't like how the status bar is often completely full of icons. I like that Google Edition is 4.4 and lean and mean, and I love the boot animation. Sound also seems better on the Google edition. Since I also like to use nova as launcher, it integrates better that on sense.

I like sense because of its beauty and nice widgets and dislike its settings, too many things in there. And I like google because of its simplicity. Everything is easy and clear. Now I am running custom sense rom, but thinking about trying new 4.4. .

Personally I like Sense 5.5. It is a perfect blend of simplicity and speed. I find stock android/ GPE to be boring. There are several mods and themes to change/ remove status bar icons on sense if that really annoys you

Launcher and stock clock

Is there any way with Launcher Pro or ADW to get the stock clock from 2.1 that has the location and date on it? The one I like is the one that turns from black to white for night and day and has the date in the middle and location on the bottom.
I know, it's silly, but I've gotten used to the clocks that come with the Slide and I want to use them on my Launchers.
Thanks!
I am interested in the stock clock as well, but only to get the stop watch and count down clock back (I know their are downloadable ones too). I thought I remember someone posting the apks for the stock clock a while back...
I mean, I really like LauncherPro and ADW but I've gotten SO used to that clock and if it's sitting in the stock ROM I don't get why I can't get to it via the launchers? I thought there would be a clear way to do this or that I'd at least have the same options of apps and widgets as I did on the Stock OS.
Are you using a custom ROM? If so, those ROMs ultimately control what comes on the phone.
No, I'm just using the stock ROM. I haven't done anything to my phone. I simply don't see the same set of widgets as on the stock OS.
I guess it's my lack of knowledge then as to what the add-on launchers do to your phone...
No, I don't think it's you, I just think something coded into their software impedes access to Stock Widgets on MyTouch Slides.
Not sure if what you guys are talking about is the fact that HTC sense widgets can only be used with the sense launcher. That would be why if you install a alternate launcher all of the sense widgets such as the clocks are not there. There are some sense knockoff clocks and widgets on the market that can be used with other launchers. It is kinda like you cant use live wallpapers with sense launcher but if you install a alternate you can.
I think you just solved my problem. That makes perfect sense.
No I just gotta find a knock off of that day-night one with the date embedded into it.
Thanks

Sense Apps on Froyo

Yes, yes, I know, Sense is not compatible yet with our MDPI devices (or something like that). I'm asking if its just the Sense Launcher/Widgets that are the issue or is it the apps (Clock app/Weather/Calender app) that are the issue?
I ask because the only thing stopping me from moving to Froyo is the lack of being able to use those apps. Especially the clock app, that's the most important to me. The HTC Sense Clock app beats the PANTS off of anything that the AOSP one is/can be themed to look like and is better in my experience than anything in the market. I use Fancy Widget since I had it backed up before the C&D and I use Launcher Plus Pro (even on the Zen Aria ROM that I currently use which comes with Sense built in). I posted something like this before, I think, but I want to be thorough about my question this time.
Again, to sum up, the Calender/Clock/Weather/Messaging/Friendstream widgets don't matter to me in the slightest. The applications behind those, now those I care about (not so much with Friendstream though).
Ideas?

They all operate on HTC's framework ... HTC completely reconfigures the framework to run Sense over Android. As a result, Sense will not run with the current Froyo's AOSP framework. However, if there is a port of a Sense 2.2 rom (say, from the Desire or Aria) down the road, you will find what you are looking for. But not until then, sadly.

Which applications are you wanting then ? I am curious about what your asking..that's all....I switched over to the RC1 build and have been going back and forth with deciding which look and feel I prefer. The stock sense phone application on my Hero, while nice, doesn't really impress me at all,not since I can modify my phone to use what programs I need now. This build allows me to have almost the same applications as any stock Froyo phone..note I said almost..The weather application that is loaded with this build is fantastic, and is 100x more responsive now than it ever was before.Same for the stock browser, and while it may not have all of the features say Dolphin has it doesn't have all the bloat neither so it runs faster. The stock flip clock to me is clumsy and...well..boring as hell and besides it takes up too much on my screen.
So..if you don't mind me asking..what applications are you really wanting from it that you can't live without that there isn't a good if not better alternative right now ? Like I said..I'm just curious..

Nothing sense (apps or widgets) will work with an AOSP rom, as the framework for the HTC apps aren't there.
Well, to be honest...I currently have ALL the same widgets working on my 2.2 Hero that I did when I was running 2.1 w/ Sense....

But see, I don't care about widgets. Launcher Pro Plus has all the widgets I need, and Fancy Widget suffices for my clock.
Anyways, thanks for the clarification everyone, I shoulda guessed that the apps were included in the locked framework, or someone would have ported it by now.
I just use the clock on the top rite of the notification bar when I need to cheak the weather there are many options out there for me to choose from.Im fine without sense. AOSP Is all I think ill ever need.

I.....don't care about the widgets (which I've said like 7 times now ) I care about the applications, specifically. The Sense clock app destroys the AOSP clock app in every single way possible. Things like that.

The clock application itself. It looks and functions perfectly. The AOSP Clock app is pretty paltry (and, forgive me, downright ugly), as is the calender app and the weather app. Oh, and I suppose Friendstream as well, seeing as that app works better for my purposes than even the official Facebook app.
I really liked the Sense Homescreen clock with the animated weather. I thought I would miss it after flashing CM6. I installed Beautiful Widgets recently and it does everything the Sense Homescreen clock did and more. It's more customizable with skins, too.

Right, which is why I said apps, not widgets.

[Q] AOSP Sense?

Does anyone know if it is possible to use the sense 2.1 lockscreen and htc apps on aosp rom? I guess my question is how would i go about editing an aosp rom to use sense as its default launcher and the htc keyboard/music/and messaging apps. If anyone has any idea id love to hear it. Basically i only flashed the sensible salsa because i wanted the lockscreen and apps and then i just used adw ex over it as the sense launcher sometimes bores me. But i miss the speed of aospCmod/ginger_Deck. How would i go about getting the best of both worlds?
No, different frameworks. Won't work.

You may just want to go with a sense "theme". Other than that, your choices are slim: sense-based rom, cm-based rom with sense them, or sensible salsa. don't forget about plain old rooted stock.....

Toggle sense 3.6 on/off

Is it possible to disable sense 3.6 after the ota update to 4.0? I would like to see how just the stock android 4.0 UI is compared to the HTC Sense overlay. I know when I had windows os phones it was rather easy but I am not sure how to if at all possible to get sense turned off. Im not looking to root my phone, I really have no need to. Thanks guys!
You can't just toggle Sense off - you'd need to install a whole new ROM, which you don't want to do.
But you can run a different launcher, or home app, on top of HTC Sense, in place of the default Sense launcher. The launcher provides the user interface part of the ROM.
Try something like 'nova launcher' - it looks more like ICS was meant to. When you run it, you can change the nova settings to make it the default launcher app.
Nova's just the one I use - there are lots of others that might be more like what you want.
Apex when I get bored, I'm back to sense for now.

cool, thanks guys. I took a look at a few different launchers and I guess I like the stock sense instead, Go figure. i must say though that the update is quite nice. much faster and runs very smooth.

ViperOne Desensing

So when I installed ViperOne 2.7.0 rom, I chose the option to desense. I noticed that the HTC Sense apps are still there though. So, if I'm correct, does desensing only get rid of the HTC Sense launcher? [The HTC camera app and zoe are still there for example, so does that mean I have the sense camera? (meaning I'll get good low light performance vs the AOSP/GPE roms) ]
I'm asking because I like all of the sense stuff, just not the sense launcher. In other words, I don't want to miss out on HTC imaging processing that only comes with sense roms (so I've heard) and things like that.
