Smart Connect TV Launcher - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
When setting up the smart connect stock app the HDMI/MHL condition automatically has the start TV launcher option, however, I want to start that application when in the charging dock as well and that app does not appear in the app drawer or the list of available apps that can be started for a certain condition.
I have tried editing the HDMI/MHL condition, but that does not work either as then I cant add the TV launcher to another condition.
Does anyone know how I can add it to the charging dock condition...
Thanks
PS,
There is this from the Xperia S section

which means it might not be easy, so if anyone knows anything to help I would be gratefull

Nexus 7 car install SOFTWARE

Hello to everyone.:highfive:
STORY I have mazda 6 2010y. The factory stereo is very simple! So after car purchase i start to think how it possible to upgrade that. After few months of thinking my end decision was to make duet of good car stereo and tablet. I read most of what i found in internet about tablet instalation in dash and there was few things which i decide to do not like others. First it is tablet plus stereo and after amplifire as tablet sound will never be so good as proper stereo. And another reason if with tablet will be something wrong i still will have stereo in my car to listen music.
Second thing which i decide for my self is that what i want hardware buttons to control my tablet. For that i will use small keyboard with multimedia buttons. I will conect momentary switches to buttons which i want to use as hardware and conect this keyboard to tablet. When i will start to make all this ofcourse i will post photos and will make end video when everething will work.
QUESTION
1)So here is what problem i met. In android exsist few commands for system through keylayout. For example i olready put comand to F1 to open camera and for F2 to open browser. Is it exist any command to start a specific application? If not, is it exist any command for navigation? If not last thing which i tryied but unsucsesfully but im not goog in that to replace one app with another. For example there is command to open calculator which i no need at all but may be it possible to make think system that it open calculator while it opens navigation?
I dont want to use any app like external keyboard heleper pro for this as we know applications sometimes stop working. I want to make it work like from system. Any suggestions?
2) Second thing. I noticed that when i restart tablet i must to disconect and conect again my keyboard where could be a problem? Any solutions?
3) I will have led momentary switches, but one small problem - they will not have logo so i want that meaning would be on screen. Is it possile to make instead of google search and app bars to make my shurtcuts for each button. That they would on top of desktop of tablet. So look like google search or app bars?
To explain waht i want to make i will post aprox picture. I will be really thankfull for any help.

What is the DEAL with Car Mode???

A long time ago, when stuff actually worked, I was able to slide my One into the HTC dock and it would enable the "Car Mode" state (NOT Car.apk, the stock garbage car app). With it, it would launch the apk associated with launching with Car Mode. This apk was set by the user if more than one car dock apps were installed (think opening a browser link from search, and it asks you if you want to use Chrome or Internet or Dolphin or Maxathon) which I had set to InDrive. So, I'd slide my dock in, and it would automatically launch InDrive, start playing music through bluetooth, and start Autoguard recording in the background.
But then they broke it. I believe it was 4.3 IIRC.
I'm now on 4.4.2 and it looks like they never returned the functionality to change what app gets launched when you slide it into the dock.
Purely, my question is: is there a way I can change the app that launches when I slide it into the dock? I'd like to get InDrive working again as that best suits my needs.
Some other info: There was a workaround which essentially re-enabled car-mode (and of course required root and a custom recovery image) but that wasn't even reliable, as it would only launch intermittently. I can't find this and doubt it works with 4.4.2.

I don't really use it but as i recall it was an NFC tag built into the car dock that made the phone react to it being inserted. have you messed with any NFC programing apps ?

It's not NFC
edit: To elaborate, there are docks that use NFC. This is not one of them. The HTC Dock uses what they call "SmartCable" for enabling car mode (which doesn't actually enable car mode it just launches their stupid proprietary garbage app.
Looks like the car mode apk that it launches isn't actually HTC's, it's google's?
Not a real question I want answered, this post is just intended to be a bump.

Some type of car mode or launcher

I'm now using Bluetooth in my car and would like to have my phone be a bit easier to use when driving and docked. Ideally I'd like to have my phone go into this car mode when connected to the Bluetooth which I can do with tasked. So I need some sort of interface that will allow me quick access to Spotify, maps, phone, SMS ideally.
Does anyone have any recommendations on. Nice way to handle this? Also if it could go auto orientate to landscape that would be awesome since its docked in landscape mode

I actually spent a few days last week trying to solve the same issue. I'm a delivery driver, so I'm always using my phone in the car. I was very disappointed with the few car mode apps that there are, so I made something myself, and it's been working flawlessly
After trying a few things, I figured that short of building an app, lightning launcher was my best option. In LLX, desktops don't mean like scrollable pages in most launchers, they're separate entities like multiple desktops on OSX or GNOME. So I created a wonderful looking portrait desktop for normal use with LLX and Zooper, and another landscape one for car mode that matched my theme, and would become my default desktop when my car is connected. I have phone, mms, voice search, Waze, and a big clock on the main view, and I can scroll left to view a full screen Zooper widget with media controls and album art, or I can scroll right and view direct dial shortcuts for work.
So when I start the car, BT connects and tasker automatically switches LLX to car desktop, disables display timeout, turns media volume up, and brightness up. As soon as I shut the car off, BT disconnects and it switches back to the portrait desktop and old settings are restored. I don't have to press anything, and I don't have to run an extra app and worry about car mode. I'm not experienced with any of those apps and it looks and works perfectly. Took a few hours of playing around to get it just how I wanted it, but I couldn't be happier. If you have any questions or want details, just ask!

I've been using Car Home Ultra and love it. It's easy to customize, has day and night settings, and can match any color car dash lights. Very easy to use while driving.

How can I get Tasker to fire LL in Car Mode and Go back to my default Launcher once I disconnect BT and Car Mode?

Google home hub with an "old" tablet

Dears,
My name is Thomas and I bought a Google mini for my home few weeks ago.
I know that Google released a new device called Google home hub, that is a home smart control. It's a beautiful idea, but in Italy is not already released.
My idea is to create with another tablet a smart home control with Google home like Google home hub.
Do you think it is possible to do? Which kind of apk can I download to release it?
Thank you for your help
I've got 2 Nexus 7 2013's that would do this role perfectly. I imagine the "Hub" app is a launcher of sorts, perhaps it will be ripped soon

I've been thinking the same thing since the announcement of the Google Home Hub.
I have the original Nexus 7 with charging dock/stand that will be ideal.
Anyone extracted the app?
I would like some easy to use home control screen
Afaik on a Google hub it is not Android, it is good wear os.

It’s not Android OS exactly, it’s “Android Things” powered by Google Assistant, so you can’t install APKs etc... it’s very basic and was made to be this way.
Wondering how difficult it would be for someone, with the proper know how, to make an app the emulated the functions of the home hub. But as an app

Wondering how difficult it would be, for someone with the know how, to make an app that emulated the features of the Home Hub. I get that these companies want to make money peddling more screens, but almost everyone has an old phone or tablet laying around that would be perfect for this.

Home Hub is running it's own Cast OS type system but other smart displays use Android Things. Android Things in fact DOES use APKs. So we shouldn't be looking at the Home Hub for this capability - we need the other smart displays broken down to find this.
Also I'm studying how to recover an old Android tablet and turn it into a Google home hub. Using only the home application of the play store does not turn it into a hub, so you can not command with different user voices and add other family accounts.
No one have found a solution? I have an old Samsung Galaxy tab 3 sitting on my desk, it would be great.
Not suggesting it should be done, but if the home hub has a standard USB docking port, perhaps it might be possible to copy system files with an otg cable connected to a laptop... they have to install the system files somehow, and I doubt that is done via wifi.
Can anyone tell me ?hav there any alternative of google home app(apk) alternative?!
By which we can control google products(chromecast, mini etc) without a google account

You can use home assistant (hass.io) you run the server on another computer and connect it with the Google assistant. Boom
Hi,
The Google Home Hub runs Fuchsia, not Android, Cast OS, or any other operating system Google has created. Fuchsia is a completely different operating system with its own kernel, APIs, and architecture, which (afaik) carries little to no compatibility with Android apps YET. Without a lot of effort, you are unlikely to get the Hub software running on non-hub hardware, let alone non-Fuchsia software.
Best of luck,
Eric Rabil
It would be amazing. Even with a dedicated apk.
Hope to see smtg soon

Can this be done on a tablet?
Ambient mode is being released on some new phones and tablets, perhaps it will eventually get a wider release. And maybe someone will develop a Magisk module to make it work on other models. Here's a link to more details about Ambient mode. This could bring new life my old Nexus 7 and 10.

Any way to use desktop mode without the dock?

So Im in need of a fully functional desktop mode becase I have some apps that are apk but arent made for small screen (adobe connect etc.) so i need to use the desktop mode on my pc
Is it possible?
Does asus offer a mode similar to samsung dex??!
theoretically, there was a barebone desktop mode added in stock android 10, but so far it seems that asus removed it : /. Maybe with OEM Asus dock it would work, but I don't have such one on hand. (Got one from baseus with 3xUSB3.0, USB C with PD, RJ-45 and a HDMI, works like a charm, just cant make the desktop mode work. Streaming screen thru HDMI works nicely tho)

FYI I don't have this phone so your mileage may vary.
You can try "scrcpy" and make DIY desktop mode. It is open source screen mirroring app for windows, linux and mac and is almost lag free even over wifi. It only needs adb, without any client app on the phone. It will basically mirror your phone's screen to pc and enable you to use your pc's mouse and keyboard as phone's one. In dev options on your phone you need to enable usb debugging. You proppably would also like to change DPI. If you have root you can also try this app which has a lot more options than just changing dpi https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.farmerbb.secondscreen.free
