4.4 update question - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am running a fully unlocked s-off, super cid, HTC one. I recently upgraded it to ARHD 5.1 kit Kat ROM and I also pushed the latest CWM recovery before flashing.
I want to upgrade the rest of the files that I am lacking since I didn't not flash a ruu or ota. What additional files do I need to flash in order to make my one all up to date as far as the latest kit Kat update.
What is the latest: hboot? Radio? Firmware? Any help will be greatly appreciated in helping me get 100% up to date.
Thanks!

I appreciate the advice and I do agree with not broke don't fix. I have a bunch of devices and always like to be synced with the latest ota updates.
I researched and found the 4.4 firmware, and radio and will flash them later on. How about hboot/ boot loader?

Is it actually true that one has to relock the bootloader and do a wipe in order to be able to flash a new firmware?
Also when flashing the latest firmware, the latest radio is right included, isn't it?

Just flash the radio man. Beware of the isssues people are having with 4.4 update. Just look at the last three four pages of this section.

[Q] Info before I root and install custom rom

All,
I decided that I do not want to wait for HTC to roll out the 4.2.2 update on my HTC One Dev and install a custom rom. I really tried to stick with stock because I was sick and tired of constant flashing and just want something that is stable and for work. But my itch is coming back and would just like to get a stable stock like rom ie Android Revolution HD 12. (Opinions for stable and stocklike?)
Anyways, since I have the Dev Edition, just want to make sure I'm doing this right, and have a couple of questions:
Since I'm bootloader unlocked, all I need to do is root, install a custom recovery ie CWM or TWRP, and flash a rom?
What do I do with firmware and radios? I know I should flash these seperately, but can anyone give me advise on which to flash? Again, I have the Dev Edition on At&T network.
Thank you all for any advice you can give me.

There's no real reason to flash either firmware or radio. but Install a recovery, which will root the phone for you, make a nandroid backup and flash to your heart's content.
I think you should read next link:

@vomer posted a detailed guide to achieve Firmware upgrade, S-OFF and other stuff. If you want to go with stock experience, then go with ARHD 12.1.
You need S-OFF to upgrade the firmware (which is recommended). If you have 1.54 HBOOT, you will not gonna be able to flash a custom firmware and you will have to use the full firmware package which I'm not sure if Vomer included in his guide, but you can always look for Mike's firmware compilation topic

This is a little off.
If you have 1.54 hboot, you are already on the most recent firmware. But because of that, you can't s-off and flash future firmware updates. You're limited to flashing custom roms at the moment.
How can I tell what version of hboot I'm on?

You're on 1.44 because your phone is still stock on 4.1.2. So you're okay.

To know this, all you need to do is go to the bootloader. As your bootloader is already unlocked, I will assume you know how to get here...
Anyway, you can just reboot the device while keeping the Vol Down key pressed and you will enter bootloader.

[Q] 4.3 Update Questions

Hi all,
I'm currently on 1.31.651.2 (Android 4.1.2) and just started getting the notifications to update to 3.04.651.2 (Android 4.3). I'm currently Unlocked but with S-On, with TWRP installed. The Stock ROM is rooted for my convenience.
What is the best course of action to get to 4.3? I know I can't OTA without putting Stock Recovery on and I'd like to avoid doing that right now.
From what I'm reading and seeing there is a Rooted 4.3 Odex/DeOdex ROM, but I'm wary from people saying it hasn't worked 100% right. I also am reading that I should do S-Off before doing it (for the radios?).
So what should I do? I'd really like to get onto 4.3 and I'm not certain of the upgrade path at this point. Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated!

You don't necessarily need to update your firmware, nor your radio to update to 4.3
Right now there are 3 android 4.3 ROMs which are buggless.

Flashing firmware and radio is OPTIONAL, your phone will work fine even without them
IF you want you can flash only the radio(no need s-off) http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23159073880933335
IF you want to flash the firmware you need to be s-off first. The new firmware contains a new touch driver, so before flashing it you'll need to update TWRP to the latest (2.6.3.0) if you haven't already. The firmware can be found here http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23159073880933456
Note if you update your firmware touch won't work if you install a 4.1.2 ROM, it works only on 4.3 ROMs

Thanks for the clarification. I wasn't sure what the firmware files were for. I was looking at the stuff in the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2467607
I really want to keep a stock rom, and that's stock + root. Since I think I want to flash the firmware file (new drivers yay!) I'll need to do S-Off first. That's exactly the info I needed. I already have TWRP 2.6.3.0 (that's the one part I saw that I could understand and I always like to run the latest anyways).
Really appreciated. Thanked.
Sorry to piggy back, but how can we make sure we are on the new firmware or not? I flashed it but I remember seeing an error in the CMD window and want to make sure it went through ok.

For those interested, here's the path I took in full:
1) Installed TWRP 2.3.6 while on old (rooted) stock.
2) Obtained S-Off using revone including getting rid of the tampered flag. ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2314582 )
3) Installed Full firmware from O.M.J. ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2467607 )
4) Installed Rooted Stock from same URL as Step 3.
5) Reinstalled TWRP 2.3.6 from the TWRP website using fastboot commands.
6) Flashed SuperSU 1.65 from the kit ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2244060 )
I now have 4.3 rooted Stock with the latest firmware.
Thanks to all who commented, but especially elvisypi. I was reading through the O.M.J. thread and saw you answered a lot of my questions in there. My bad for not reading before going and posting. Thanks regardless.

[Q] HTC One w ARHD12 - how to get Three's 4G update?

OK, so about 9 months ago I rooted my Three branded HTC one, installed CWM recovery and put ARHD12 on there and it's been brilliant. Three are now rolling out the 4G radio updates which as far as I understand is entirely separate to any ROM such as ARHD. So how do I get the radio update? Do I have to go back to stock? If so, now's the time to confess I didn't take a backup before I installed ARHD. So I guess I need the most recent Three RUU - do I have to remove CWM before I install it? I'm not a n00b - I managed to do this on my own last time and I'm fairly technically competent. The only problem I have now is one of time - I can't spend an entire day figuring stuff out due to the 9-month old bundle of joy that requires a fair bit of attention! If you can help me with a fairly simple outline of what to do in what order, that would be very much appreciated. Cheers!

You will have to return completely to stock. That means everything must be as it was out of the box. As for the ruu for your carrier, if they released it then it should be in one of the stickies.

I'm on Three in the UK and before I flashed a custom ROM I made sure I got S-Off then flashed the latest unbranded firmware(FUU_4.19.401.9-TWRP2633_combined_nowipe.exe which I got from XDA) and then changed my CID to SuperCID. After that I flashed custom ROM without flashing a stock ROM. LTE/4G works perfectly ok.

Thanks Heat57. I'm currently S-On, Unlocked, Tampered. I've also found this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2419699
which seems to contain all of the radio files in the world, and also all of the firmware. This radio:
(1.29.401.12 WWE OTA) Radio_4A.14.3250.13_10.33.1150.01L
Looks interested, but you say you never flashed your radio? When did you get your one?
I'm thinking from your post I'm going to get S-OFF (using Revone, yes?) and flash a firmware to see if the 4G radio options show up. I can't see the one you mentioned - could you recommend one from the above thread? Also, it says TWRP - I'm using CWM - is that a problem?
Final question - if I do a backup I'm backing up the radio and firmware as well? So if I make a total plums of this I can get back to CWM and restore?
TIA for any further help you can give me

Well, I flashed the firmware, which amongst other hardware bits includes the radio. My first goal was to unlock the bootloader and then S-Off, as the latter removes any potential issues with firmware flashes and the like. I also went and changed CID to 11111111, which I understand is SuperCID and enables flashing of firmware and ROMs of different CID designations. Please beware, YOU MUST BE S-OFF FOR FIRMWARE FLASHING!!!
Regarding your question of revone, if you're on hboot 1.44 then yes, revone, hboot version 1.54 and 1.55 only work with rumrunner and latest versions require the 'firewater' exploit.
I am relatively new to HTC, although I owned an original Desire many years ago, so I still remember the peculiarities of HTC ROM. I had a Galaxy Note 2 and rooting and flashing ROMs there is a piece of cake by comparison. I digress.
Unlike most other manufacturers, where you get everything included in the custom ROM, it seems with HTC that is not the case, hence if you want to update your radio for example, you need to flash a firmware package. Therefore, I am not certain if a Nandroid would restore the firmware, if you encounter any problems, maybe someone more knowledgeable can confirm. In any event, if you're S-Off then flashing any firmware for the M7ul should work, so worst case, if you mess up you could always flash the one I pointed out via adb. Here is a link to the latest firmware http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2485651
Regarding the recovery, I just prefer TWRP and use the one but last version 2.6.3.4, which works perfectly. #However, there is no reason why your CWM should not be adequate. Before I took the jump, after just receiving my One, I read through the threads for about a day to make sure I got it right.
Finally, if you end up rooted and S-Off then there is a supper little flashable zip called 'Guru_Bootloade_Reset_1.0.zip' that allows you to remove the tampered flag, relock the bootloader and unlock it again by simply flashing it and selecting what you want in it's aroma installer. You'll find it on XDA as well, justuse the search function.

[Q] Help needed updating to latest OTA

I'm having issues trying to update to the latest firmware and accept the OTA. A little info first...
I'm S-off and rooted on a non-KH edition Spring M8, CID 11111111 with hboot 3.16.0.0000, radio 1.08.20.0612_4. On the software side of things I have 1.54.654.13.
My problem is this... I get the message about the software update being available to update to 1.54.654.15. When I try to install it brings me to a phone with a red triangle. The odd thing is that I've re-flashed stock recovery in order to accept the OTA. I believe my problem stems from trying to flash the HK version of firmware and software to the phone previously. I think I've flashed the latest firmware, but I still cant figure out how to update my software to the latest stock version. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've searched through threads for hours and cant figure it out.

Yes, still having issues. Last night I went back to TWRP recovery to flash the HK version stock rooted rom. I havent flashed yet though. Do I need the HK edition firmare to flash the HK edition stock rooted rom? My goal is to get the latest radio with the latest software to allow me to utilize the wifi calling feature. I have terrible reception at my house and have been using an airave unit. Only problem is I've been stuck on CDMA only because there is the faintest of LTE signals and the phone will choose that over my full bars CDMA airave signal. Thanks

As far as your first post, I think you're missing a step when you see the red triangle press the volume up and power button to get into the stock recovery. If it does nothing, that means you need to go into the power settings and turn off fastboot. Normally you can't get to the bootloader if fastboot is turned on, but you can still reboot there with a few apps, like ROM Manager.

If you have successfully installed the latest firmware, you should have hboot 3.18. I'm not sure you are fully up to date. Here's a post I found with a modified hboot 3.18 that I successfully installed after SuperCID (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2795823&page=14). That should get you to latest hboot. Then, you can install the latest rooted stock rom (odex or deodex).
The same thread (first page) has the latest stock rooted rom and another firmware update (minus the recovery) for you to try in case you need more than hboot.
This should get you to the point where you have wi-fi calling.

HTC One M8 Android 4.4.4 rooted update to android 5.0

I have a normal edition Sprint HTC One M8 that is rooted with android version 4.4.4. I am still on the stock ROM. Whenever I got the phone, about 2-3 weeks ago, I wasn't aware that 5.0 was being released to the M8. So I updated to 4.4.4 through the OTA update and rooted. After rooting the system update popped up prompting me to update to version 5.0.
Now my question, is there an official rooted stock 5.0 ROM yet? I can't find it anywhere.
If there isn't, how do I go about updating to 5.0 from rooted 4.4.4?
Thanks,
Shawn
More info: this isn't the first time I've rooted phones. I've had an HTC EVO 4G and a Samsung Galaxy S3. This is just the first time I've had stuff not go as planned.
I tried to get S-OFF, however since "firewater" no longer works, and the only other way is SunShine, I can live with S-ON.

In order to take the OTA you need a stock rom (no modifications to system) and stock recovery.
Or option 2 is you can run the latest RUU

How would I go back to stock recovery and remove root?
Same question for RUU. I've only used RUU once on my EVO 4G to reset everything. Not sure if the process is the same for the One M8 or where I'd start lol

You flash stock recovery the same way you flash twrp, root should be ok I've never done an OTA I've always been s-off.
The rom you are on should also be ok unless you removed a bunch of bloat.
The RUU will wipe your device...back up anything important to your PC.
Side note: Every time there is an update and you like custom roms most require the firmware to be updated in order for them to work properly.
Updating firmware with s-off only takes a couple minutes and a lot less hassle then if you are s-on... so I would recommend biting the bullet and using Sunshine if at all possible.

I plan on staying with the stock ROM, just rooted so I'm gonna skip S-OFF. Never had an issue with it being on on my EVO (I flashed dozens of ROMs and stuff on it).
I'm ok with RUU wiping everything. I purposely haven't put much personal data on the phone cause I knew I'd be wiping within the next few weeks.
I'm gonna go the RUU method as everything will be fresh and unmodified.
Thanks for your help!
