So I wanted to remove the nav bar and I added the line qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 (like I do on all my phones). I reboot the phone and now I have a constant systemUI force close. I tried editing and removing the line, changing the 1 to 0, but it doesnt seem to stick. Is the only option I have to revert to stock using RSDLite/ Toolkit? Have the XT1058 AT&T with a locked BL.

Just reflash your ROM on your internal storage, don't do a factory reset and you will not lose anything but will fix your problem.

Yes, but thats just the thing, isnt it. I cant copy/paste anything. The systemUI error keeps popping up every second making it impossible to do anything.

Locked BL. No CWM or TWRP
Fastboot system only, otherwise you know rsdlite and remove the line in the XML that says erase userdata and you will still have all your files intact

Gotta download the ROM first then I guess?
In the future never play around unless you are rooted with a backup....but Im sure you dont need to hear that right now
Just rsd back to stock...only option at this point

NEVER been a time I havent made a backup, but as I said, this is my first phone with a locked BL. No idea how to make a backup and restore from it. Maybe I should read up first.
Anyone got a torrent link to the AT&T ROM? My download keeps failing.

RSDLite'ed back to stock
Thank you for your help everyone
EDIT: How does one make a backup of the current ROM setup, seeing as how we dont have CWM or TWRP on locked BLs
Answering my own question here, please feel free to tell me if there is another way.
Installed SS, backed up stock ROM, made a new ROM slot and restored the backup to it. Now all modifications are done to ROM Slot 1. If something goes awry, I boot back into SS, restore from Stock ROM slot.
I had a problem like that and at first it seemed like I couldn't do anything with SystemUI force closing. It turns out there is enough time between force closes to press one button or move the screen once, so it takes a few minutes but you can get into the system folder and restore the backed up copy.

Believe me when I say, I tried. I could move the screen, i could open a file. The catch was in a file explorer you would have to hold down on, say the backed up build.prop and rename it (remove the .bak extension). The time between two FCs isnt long enough for a long press
You could have just used adb. Get the stock build.prop, stockbuild.prop, back on your phone, in the root of the sdcard... then access the phone's shell... then take the "stockbuild.prop" and move it to the /system/. It would overwrite automagically.
Code:
adb push 'stockbuild.prop' /sdcard/
adb shell
su
mv /sdcard/stockbuild.prop /system/
reboot

EDIT: UPDATE. well after a full day of messing with the leak update i can say
1. radio update fixed the connection issues including lte, 3g, and wifi issues that lately were getting worst
2. battery life greatly went up a bit compared to what i used to get out out .902 and .905
3. color and screen seem to be more "vibrant" than before. good thing imo
4. had issues with playing youtube and netflix last night but a quick reset of the phone and issues were gone
5. have no issues with the face unlock
6. i've messed with nearly every feature and option and everything is running smooth as butter. no random reboots nor connection issues
7. successfully rooted using motorola 4.0.4 root method
8. camera works great and quickly too. image stabilization added on both pictures and video recording
now if your on and off about updating well take my word that you'll be happy with the update. if your one of the many like I that started to hate the damn phone because of the latest connection issues or crappy updates, this will make you fall in love with the beast that is the first 4G LTE verizon Motorola DROID Bionic

I think I'll wait on this one. Don't want to get burned like some other model users did on a leak.
is it possible to flash back to .902/.905 from this ICS?
I am on 905 rooted but stock and hadn't even removed the bloat. However I cannot install this update it fails just after it tried to "verify current system" the error says
assert failed: apply_patch_check("/system/bin/logwrapper". then what appears to be the output of two md5sum runs
then
E:Error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
You can't be rooted.
You may have or have had either Clockwork Mod Recovery installed or Safestrap. Whenever I use CWM and then wish to remove it, I do the following:
1. I uninstall it through normal methods
2. Then I navigate to "/system/bin"
3. I delete the file named "hijack"
4. I then delete the file named "logwrapper" and rename the file "logwrapper.bin" to just "logwrapper"
This always seems to completely remove any traces of CWM. Hope this helps!

Tried this, and got a different error this time complaining about /system/bin/mount_ext3.sh..
Update: opened up that script and saw where I had some lines added from forever root, removed those lines and am currently installing ICS
You must have used a version of 4everoot that modified the mount-ext3.sh file to keep root through an update. You will have to either FXZ or manually re edit that file to remove the lines at the bottom that protect root.

There are two versions. No prompt means that when you push one of the options it performs that task without a confirmation prompt. While prompt gives you that confirmation prompt.
DO NOT USE THIS IF YOU ARE USING A ROM, MOD OR WHATEVER THAT MODIFIES FRAMEWORK-RES.APK OR ANDROID.POLICY.JAR
YOU WILL EITHER SOFT BRICK THE PHONE OR REMOVE THE OTHER MODS/THEMES INCLUDED IN THOSE FILES

There are only a few lines to change in framework-res.apk. Follow that guide in the OP and you can modify your framework-res easily. Or if you haven't modified values/strings.xml or public.xml just copy those from my modded file and the images. Then just use my android.policy.jar and boom you are set. In fact once you get it done why don't you send it my way so I can try it out! :good:

I assume if my phone won't move past the yellow Sprint screen it's soft bricked? When I flashed the mod it gave me some message about installing stock recovery and I didn't go through with that, could that be the issue and more importantly, how do I get out of this? I'm pretty sure I didn't have anything else going on that should've caused this, I actually took my phone back to stock MDL and did the official update, no special ROM or anything then rooted and installed recovery.

I am not sure what that stock recovery message was. Which zip did you install and what is your build number in about phone? Download a stock Rom. Pull out framework-res.apk and android.policy.jar. Put them in the zip and flash. Or if you have a good backup restore only system.

Have a backup on my 64gb card which won't read in custom recovery, just pulled it and put it in the computer to move the files to a 32gb card and it's saying not formatted. Not freaking, yet but eeks!
Going to try the flashing. I really shouldn't mess with my phone late at night.
Missed the first part of your question. I flashed the odex hotspot mod, then the odex extended power menu mod (with prompt if it matters). After the second flash when I hit go back so I could reboot it said something to the effect of "this may restore stock recovery on reboot" and gave me the yes or no option. I hit no and it rebooted and that's when I realized there was a problem. This is the file I originally flashed to move me from MDL to MF9. bfeb51f4befc9f910dff1c6070f2d387aaac37de.update_SPH-L720_MDL_CSB_user_RP_to_MF9_CSB_user_RP.zip
These files I need to flash, can I get them from your stock rooted MF9?
Thank you for responding so quickly.
---------- Post added at 11:31 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:18 PM ----------
Well now it might be an issue with my computer because both my 64gb & 32gb are saying not formatted when I use the sd card reader and I know both have data on them. I've got to get one of these working or I won't have any way to get the files on my phone to be flashed.
This 64gb card has been nothing but trouble. When I get this straightened out I'm switching back to my 32gb!
---------- Post added 14th July 2013 at 12:17 AM ---------- Previous post was 13th July 2013 at 11:31 PM ----------
Finally found an old 8gb card and loaded up your stock rooted MF9 ROM and just flashed it. (I was a little unclear about the framework-res and android.jar path and I assume you've rightly gone to bed lol).
I really appreciate your help. Going to reformat my 32gb card, do a fresh backup and learn from my mistakes. (i.e. don't mess with phone when it's late and you're tired from travelling all day.)
I'd love to see screenshot as a power menu item. Also maybe Blocking Mode.
SUCCESS!
How happy am I? Huh? (the answer is very)
After flashing your stock rooted MF9 (and sticking with the 8gb sd card) I re-flashed each mod but in separate sessions, just in case, and everything worked beautifully! (oddly enough I didn't get that stock recovery message this time and I wonder if it has anything to do with flashing from internal sd the first time and flashing from external sd this time?) I admit I was semi-close to panicking (did I mention I'm tired?) but I've learned it's best to keep a cool head and walk through the problem slowly. You guys provide such excellent tools all we have to do is use them properly.
I love the extended power menu. I've been using Quick Boot forever and it works great but I'm trying to tidy up my app drawer so it's lovely to be able to remove one more.
Thanks for everything you do and everything you provide. You were a phone saver! Now I'm going to bed before I figure out how to screw up anything else. :silly:
(oh, oddly enough, when I put my 64gb into the phone to check it out it works fine. The computer recognizes it and all my files are there. How weird is that? Still switching to my 32gb card though.)
Works like a charm, thank you! :victory:

I'm not looking for a screenshot OF the MOD...but rather having screenshot as a FUNCTION of the MOD I'd like that as one of the power menu options, which is a feature I've enjoyed from CM on my Evo 3D.
ok i jacked something up.... i have been using PIE controlls for weeks and randomly my nav bar came back so i went to gravity box and turned off the nav bar and rebooted like it prompted me to do. now i get a constant string of "unfortunately, system UI has stopped" and in between the FC i can get into gravity box, but i get a pop up that says "GravityBox system framework not responding. Exiting"
as a side note, i was not thinking when i made the change and was not booted into recovery mode like is recommended for root changes
am i screwed or can i fix this without a factory reset?
hmmm i cant seem to do a factory reset either from the setting area. i say erase all and the phone reboots but then im back with nothing changed and force close loop.
i assume i need to do something from the computer... anyone know what i need to do?

If your rooted go to hash codes thread and get the apk and run it like you would any app. Just know that it will hijack your stock recovery and unless someone unlocks the bootloader you cant go back. But once you have Safe Straps recovery you should be able to go into it and flash the xposed disable-recovery.zip

So I'm following the steps that solved OP's problem but having trouble installing safestrap. When I open the app it doesn't give me the option to install recovery. It is just grayed out and won't let me choose this option. Any suggestions?
Edit: Nevermind, Im dumb, figured it out. Thanks regardless
I'm gonna just cut to the chase here, I've already looked at the forums and searched and all that.
Phone has been fine for about 3 weeks, since I got it, and all of a sudden it froze up on me and gave me the error "Process System Isn't responding" and of course with the 'wait' and 'ok' options. Phone does work fine except for the active display will not work and every time I unlock the phone it tells me that it crashed. I get random app crashes at random times as well. And my wifi is stuck in a permanent 'turning wifi on...' phase so I'm forced to use my 4g. I have tried all the suggestions that are possbile for the model of the Moto X that I have but nothing will work. Multiple factory resets, cahce wipes, everything. I've even tried flashing a stock rom to the phone via fastboot, didn't think it would work as I am on 4.4.2 AT&T version of the Moto X, and of course it didn't. Has anyone had the same problem, or found a workaround that actually works?
Well....it seems you're only option is flashing the 4.4.2 files for your phone. And if they aren't available....you probably have to play the waiting game unfortunately.
Are you rooted?? I would say if you're rooted, xposed or something that has changed system files is the culprit. But if you're not rooted....then who knows.
Good luck!!
P.s. never try to downgrade. You're lucky you got an error.....cause sometimes you get a brick.

Not rooted, everything is completely stock, I did try flashing the 4.4.2 files to my phone, but can't get system.img to write, tried just flashing the update as a zip but wouldn't work because of something like the update-version wasnt found in the zip file... If only I had root, this would be a lot easier...
Edit: Would you be able to point me to the AT&T files? I did find firmware but that won't flash for some reason.

Thanks for all the help, hopefully everything works.
Edit: Used the toolkit to flash the 4.4.2 update. I guess it just didn't like the way I was trying to do it before. Everything works again though, and hopefully it stays that way.
Now I get to go through the process of restoring all of my files.
Ok so I have a stock, rooted, unlocked but encrypted Nexus 6. Last night it took a bad fall. The glass only cracked in one spot, however the LCD is cracked in several areas. Turning the phone on resulted in a black display. it flickers a few small bars of convoluted color, then goes black. The phone was still on and with launch everywhere I could still "Ok Google..." to do a few things.
Now, like the total idiot I am, for some damn reason I turned the phone off after getting off the phone with Asurion. And because of encryption and the screen being unresponsive (black display) I can't enter the damn screen pattern to unlock it, so I can't boot it up to drag and drop files or use adb to wipe the phone.
Does anyone have any suggestions to where I can somehow either access my files or at the very least wipe the phone? Most of my info that was on the phone is backed up to Googles servers. The are few items that aren't, that I hope I can get, but if I can't, I need to make sure are wiped. Can I enter fastboot without the pattern unlock? Or should I look into someone to repair the screen to at least get it turned on and functional to do what I need?
Thanks in advance!

OK thanks. I will try that when I get home and just flash the factory image to wipe. thanks!
Hmm... from Google support pages:
If your device is running Android 5.1 or higher: Your device is protected to prevent other people from using it if it's been reset to factory settings. To ensure that it's really you doing the reset, you'll need to enter a Google username and password associated with the device after factory reset. If you don't have this information, you won't be able to finish the setup process and use the device at all after factory reset.
Does this mean even if I wipe it, the phone won't be usable for anyone?? they can't refurbish the phone because the phone will need my google info??
Eh screw it... Just gonna send it into Motorola

Hmm... from Google support pages:
If your device is running Android 5.1 or higher: Your device is protected to prevent other people from using it if it's been reset to factory settings. To ensure that it's really you doing the reset, you'll need to enter a Google username and password associated with the device after factory reset. If you don't have this information, you won't be able to finish the setup process and use the device at all after factory reset.
Does this mean even if I wipe it, the phone won't be usable for anyone?? they can't refurbish the phone because the phone will need my google info??

yup, mean even after you wipe it, lets say 100 times, itll still ask you for your password. its security, there would be no point if you could wipe it away. but, there is a way to get rid of it, by flashing the 5.0 or 5.0.1 factory images.

yes, as long as your bootloader is unlocked. those images didn't have the security yet.

Hate to say this, but that's their problem You can bet that Google/Motorola will know how to get around it

Wasn't there some issue with downgrading the bootloader causing problems? Or am I confusing with some other device?

It's my understanding, but I am new to the N6 so correct me if I am wrong, you can downgrade the 5.0 or 5.0.1 factory img as long as you don't downgrade to 71.05 bootloader.

Maybe someone with more exp can give the exact process. I assume you are looking for a img with no bootloader, recovery, and radio like these http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/development/fxz-nexus-6-recovery-flashable-fastboot-t3066052 but older img's
I just got my N6 yesterday, and been reading my a$$ off so I don't mess anything up. So far I have unlocked the bootloader, rooted and installed TWRP.

One can always go to the google developer images site (developers.google.com/android/nexus/images) and download the image they need. Unzip the downloaded file, and unzip the resulting file. In that, you'll find yet some img files, and yet another zip file that will contain the rest of the img files. Choose which one you want, and flash away
Ok so I was able to get it so the lock screen pattern is gone.
At this point I'm about to do insurance claim.
I want to pull my data (pics etc) off.
I have twrp installed and can get into recovery. Adb devices results in showing my device.
Adb/USB debugging isn't active when booted normally as I flashed new system
Tried using a tool to pull using adb, but no data gets pulled
Anyone have a method for pulling my data off? It's set to charge mode by default so it doesn't show in windows explorer.
Thanks

I'm currently in the exact same predicament. Let me know how it goes.

Use adb pull from booted into recovery.

Do you happen to know what path I would enter to pull from? I have to specify the target correct? I tried using an adb recovery tool, but when it went to /sdcard it said that path didn't exist.
I believe right now I flashed a 5.0 image (pre forced encryption?)

This is the tool I tried to use:

Is it lollipop?
You need to mount data or sdcard first.
this should work
Code:
adb shell
mount /data
exit
adb pull /data/media/0/* c:\users\phaded\desktop\mybackup\
I've made some assumptions above.

Yes it's lollipop, just an earlier version of it that didn't have the pattern lock (or whatever security) prompt at boot. I think 5.0.1.
I'm not rooted, does that matter for adb shell in recovery?
/data/media/0/ is my whole sd card correct? Is there a command that will show my directory in that path so I can cherry pick the folders to extract?
