repartitioned and now have half bricked touchpad - TouchPad Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi,
prior to today i had a cm9 + webos touchpad.
i did a lot of stupid things today, some accidental, some carelessly
now all my restore backups are gone (the worst that happened)
my cm9 still boots up.........., but i have 16gig of my 32gig touchpad "damaged"
and my webOS does still boot up, just that it takes about a good 40 min........
-----------------------------------------------
it all started when i decided i wanted to upgradd to Evervolv AOSP Android 4.3.1 JB (20131110)
before i began i wanted to make sure i have 512mb boot alloted, i followed and flashed the zip file
update-cm-tenderloin-system_resize_512-0.4.zip
but it didn't work, so i tried this other repartition zip from the thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2477806
sys_512mb_data_plus_16384mb-signed.zip
and now i can't get anything downloaded to do anymore upgrading because i don't have a sdcard established
---------------------------------------------------------------
i need a solution, but it must not involve using the micro usb port and a computer. that port has been dead for about a year now (which is why i didn't bother upgrade all this time)
anyone got a solution?

Have you tried using the WebOS program called Tailor? Tailor can resize partitions and attempts to 'fix' errors.

Do you guys know if tailor formats anything if i add space to my system partition?

I used tailor resizing my data partition. All my files are still there.

"Professionaly installed" what exactly is that?

Sounds like webOS was updated =)
Yep, just reinstall via ACMEInstaller.
a computer repair shop that i have delt with foe about 4 years .
if you do the secure erase/wipe within WebOS, moboot should re-appear. worked for me anyways. It's in the device info->reset options->secure full erase. All your stuff on the SD card will be gone too. So back up anything important prior to doing so or you may need to do a factory reset/wipe in CWM.

Then get them to fix it. No offense, but if you weren't able to install it yourself in the first place, then chances are high that you won't be able to repair this yourself either without loosing all of your data.

If he has no moboot , he might find it hard to get into CWM
Thus the point of the Secure Erase, which brings back "moboot & android".
In my case, I updated my touchpad to the 3.0.5, lost android/moboot. Didn't care, as my usb port died, case had cracks, sent in to HP for warranty. As a last ditch effort to revive the usb port thinking it may work again, did the secure erase. Like magic, android was back. But, if you still have your webOS activated and accessible you can backup your SD card contents for anything android. Such as Titanium backup, media, anything that android uses.
To clarify, back up anything important prior to doing so or "you may need to do a factory reset/wipe in CWM", afterwards, as all SD card contents will be erased upon using the Secure Erase option.
this touchpad has no sd card, do some have an sd slot ?

He's talking about the internal storage that we commonly call SD storage. You should take it to that PC store and have them get you back on track.

[Q] Recovering empty disc space

I have a 64 GB Touchpad. Originally I had created a 10 GB extf3 partition for Ubuntu on it. Then, with Android ICS working quite well, I deleted Ubuntu and recovered the partition. In WebOS the system information says 64 GB. But I cannot actually use the recovered 10 GB, Internalz Pro reports only 47 GB and so does Android. So the 10 GB are still unformatted? The WebOS Tailor app is not working for me, so how can I revover the lost space and make it usable again?
Perhaps I can do it from the terminal with WQI?
Thanks for your help

Try taking the card out of the phone. Use a card reader on your computer and use mini tools partition program. It should do the job.
Make a backup, in case things go South...... Good luck.

Sorry, you misunderstood. It is the Touchpad, not the Pre. The Touchpad has no card, only the internal flash memory.
with the touchpad mounted on your PC, does it show 64?
(mount it in recovery)
does webos doctor fix it?

Mounted from Android it reports 45.2GB, connected via WebOS it is the same. How do you mount in recovery? When I am in WebOS recovery mode the PC doesn't recognize the Touchpad.
I didn't run the doctor yet, would the doctor fix this and reformat the partition?
in clockwork recovery, you can mount usb drive by entering Mounts and Storage option and choosing Mount Usb, and it will be visible to your pc. but it sounds like you might have an invisible partition, in cases of that partition being on a sdcard it took a special program on the PC to repartition the sdcard to recover the size.
you can't format the touchpad without losing everything, i don't think that would be safe but i haven't tried it. if anybody claims to have done it safely then they will hopefully chime in
you can run the webos doctor safely though and it might fix the partition, your only loss would be reinstalling Android the original way

I think I messed up my partitions while messing with Ubuntu chroot, how to fix?

The storage on my Touchpad for a long time was saying it was wrong, under CM9 it said it had a total of just over 8GB (1.4GB internal, 6.6GB SD card), even though I have the 16GB model. I just ran the webOS Doctor to reset my Touchpad thinking this would fix it, and it says under the device info screen in webOS that I have 16GB memory, but that I have only 4.1GB available. Is there any way I can fix this?
There is a thread in the General section (I don't have it handy because I am on my tablet now and don't have the link) that will let you restore your tablet to stock partition sizes - but do note it does a full wipe of everything, as you delete and recreate your partition table. Check it out, it should solve your problem.

Found it and did it, the amount available is correct now, thanks.
If anyone else wants to fix theirs and finds this thread, I used this guide

[Guide] How to guide for changing your system, data, and cache partition sizes to wha

BACKUP! BACKUP! BACKUP! If something goes wrong it makes it easier to get back to your setup.
Copy that backup to a computer or cloud storage. You will be messing with all the partitions, including the main storage (SD card). You might have to format the SD card or doctor the whole device, which would delete your backup. This will take a lil bit of time, especially if uploading it. I suggest using a zip program with compression to make uploading and downloading easier.
This is all done in WebOS. If you haven't already, install preware on your TouchPad. Go here for instructions on that. Get the webos quick install from here.
Go into preware and search for a program called tailor and install it.
First you need to unmount the USB (media partition. This is the sd card in Android. To procede any further, you will first need to check the file system. This will take about 5-7 minutes on a 32GB TouchPad!! If you get an error that pops up right away, don’t worry; just run it again.
You can now resize the partition. Decide how much more space you need to add to another partition and subtract that from the number in “Partition Size”. I took out 40 megs as an example. Enter that number in the text box and click resize partition. This will take a while longer then the filesystem check, about 15 minutes. You can then remount the usb (media) partition.
The Unused space at the bottom is how much space was given up by the “resize partition” command. It will not exactly match what you took out. It’s been rounded to the nearest block size.
Select the partition you want to add to. I chose the Android (system), since that is what most people will change. Again you need to check the file system. This is a much smaller partition and is done in a few seconds. Again , if you get an error in the file system check, run it again!
You can now add the unused space to the partition size. (Please note in my example that the file system used is 355 megs. This is how much space is taken up by the cm10 -12162012 build and the official 101112012 gapps package.) Click Resize partition.
Your all done! Reboot your touchpad and you will see you have added space in Android in a program that tells you the system partition size. (Titanium backup for example)
http://youtu.be/UK0RS9aLOxE
RolandDeschain79 has recently made a video to explain how its done.
Thanks to rwhitby of webosnation for developing Tailor and Nevertells for telling me about it!
Here is my current versions of my system resize scripts. Flash through recovery.
This will increase your system to the size listed and no more. Reflashing will not make your system any bigger.

Sorry for the noob question. Previously I have used jcsullins' data_plus scripts to increase the internal memory (for app installation) by 2gb to a total of 3.5gb and right now I have plans to undo that, is there any way you guys could help me out? I tried searching for help but can't find any. And rootzwiki has some error so I can't pm him over there :/

You could run acmeuninstall and then then do a fresh install using acmeinstaller3. That will start everything out at the default sizes. Restore your last backup as long as you have less then 1.5gb of apps.

Thanks for the reply! I have flashed a couple of times but just to confirm, this will put me back on "square one" right? Meaning everything is wiped and back to webos just like default? By the way have you heard of android giving rise to hardware issues? Cause my touchpad seems to have some areas that cannot detect touch (holding the tablet upright, top row of pixels about 2cm in height can't detect touches, as well as the opposite corner just a small spot), dirty flashed cm10 over cm9 but it doesnt fix that, wondering if it's a hardware issue or an android issue..

With which recoveries do these zip files work with?
Not having any success with JC Sullins CWM 6.0.4.7. using all three of the 16 gb update zips:

Mounted USB storage in Recovery and saw via my desktop that USB storage is just under 6 gb with 5.7 gb free. I did empty it of files before using Tailor to partition the disk and install cm 11. I was only able to get it to approximately 6 gb usable storage and 6 gb of unusable storage with Tailor after multiple incremental uses of Tailor. WebOS, likely won't boot anymore. It started to take hours to boot WebOS while I was doing the partitioning via Tailor. Now, I haven't been able to boot into WebOS after letting it attempting a boot for 24 hours at a time....so, the past couple of months I have been trying the zip files with no luck.
Are you suggesting to empty the usable portion of the touchpad storage and then attempt to use the zip files? I don't have anything critical stored on the device, so I don't mind deleting the accessible files.

I would acmeuninstall, then webdoctor to 3.0, then do a secure erase to insure your partitions are error free and empty. Then follow mpgrimms steps to install data media builds.

i did a check filesystem, and it gave me errors telling me to repair

[Q] Corrupted /cache

I have two HP Touchpads, a 16GB and a 32GB. Both have CM installed by me. The 16 ran for about a month and then crashed & won't reboot ("unfortunately Trebuchet has stopped"). It seems that /cache is corrupted but I have tried every function of TPToolbox and TWRP to repair delete resize or wipe and each one fails due to /cache problems. Reinstall also fails. Grateful for any insight / assistance.
Same problems on my wife's old unit. Tried almost every option and no go on retreading this tire. What's sad is if WebOS Recovery was still available, this would be an easy fix, but all my attempts running this process and doing a complete reset back to webOS have also filed. WebOS partially works, but repartitioning using Preware tools (Tailor) have also failed to fix corrupt storage.
Suspect I'll need Linux to ADM and reformat the partitions, but no go with this either and would love some help from some Linux junkie who may have a suggest.
Maybe someone can help both of us and please let us know if you make progress and I'll do same.

webOS recovery doesn't help me - reinstall fails
I can still boot webOS but it doesn't have much space. I bought a 32GB motherboard and am going to try installing it.
