Hey guys i purchased a sony xperia z1 about few months back and m sure my device has a faulty screen with a dead cell on it.... Sometimes it show many vertical black lines extending the whole screen... I have seen videos of teardown xperia z1 on youtube and realy worried by seeing how they open up the fone... Guys please advise me weather i should get it done from sony within warranty or i should let it be as it is as i don't want any further problems with my fone if sony center could not fix my fone like a new brand device.. M worried that my fone will lose it waterproof seal or Won't look like a new fone or loss of functionality in any manner.
Please suggest me guys asap wht should i do...??
You should take it to a Sony service center and have it checked, just to be sure. If the display is faulty then they should replace it under warranty.
As for the waterproofing, the service center should do a vacuum test (as it is stated here) to see if the phone is sealed properly after the repair (if they do decide to repair and not replace it).

You'd have better luck asking here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z1/help
This is the section for accessories for the Xperia Z1. I will notify a moderator to move it for you, so others can answer your question who may not go in to this part of the forum. (thread is in Accessories at the moment) :good:
Happy new year!

If they said that you'll get a replacement phone and not a repaired / refurbished one, then that is what *should* happen.
I found this post here in which they replaced just the phone without the accessories, so it might be true that they do replacements like that.
Hope you get a new and problem-free one :fingers-crossed:
yadnit: my phone was replaced because of a faulty display, with a brand new one by the carrier i've bought it from. They did exactly what you said. They took just the faulty device, without any of the accesories that came with it in the box. They took my original Z1 box too. When the replacement arrived, it came in my original box, without being any kind of sealing. The phone had those protection plastic foils on it and when i started it, it was on .534 fw although my faulty unit was updated to .257 fw.
Another very important thing to pay attention to, is the new phone's IMEI. Mine has now a differen IMEI and even more it is unbranded and not simlocked (the faulty unit was branded and sim-locked also).
Hope this helps you!

The contents of this thread were removed, because that I have submitted the phone for a warranty repair at a Sony repair center.
Welp, looks like RMA it is.
Hello, I recently bought a brand new Xperia Z3 Compact in December of 2014. Last week I accidentally kneeled on it while it was in my pocket and this created a purple blotch on my screen. I contacted Sony for a repair but they said because I have unlocked the boot-loader they will not even evaluate it for a repair. I figured that I had voided my warranty but sony would atleast repair it at cost? Apparently not, their customer service is beyond pathetic. I have insurance that does cover accidental hardware issues so I wasn't worried. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to get it fixed since Sony will not, I have tried fixing phones like this before only making things worse so I wouldn't trust myself for the repair anyways. Should I call my insurance company and see what can be done? Im having trouble finding a third party that will repair my phone in the U.S. The phone still works fine, its just annoying and Id rather it be fixed since its fairly new. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Im not sure if calling the insurance company yet and explaining to them what happened is appropriate yet.

Not sure - but i always tend to bite the bullet and fix myself - here is the site - https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Sony+Xperia+Z3+Teardown/30464
and here is the part - http://www.amazon.com/display-Scree...&sr=8-4&keywords=xperia+z3+compact+lcd+screen
I feel I am a Foolish owner of SONY Z3 Compact - it did not turn waterproof anytime I used
Not sure if posting here will help me at all, however I am doing it.
Issue1:
First time before I could take my phone into the swimming pool I had dipped it in a bucket of water to see if water resistance works. The phone's camera , gps etc stopped working.
The service center person said the liquid indicators are 'red' without actually being red. Then I escalated about this to sony customer care that I do not trust this as I had closed the ports properly and dipped in the water . However I was suggested to give the phone for service and was taken under warranty.
I wrote another email to sony that I no more have confidence in this phone as water entered even after the ports were closed.
However after a delayed and long wait I received my phone after service . I got assurance from the service center that now water resistance works.
Issue 2:
I took my kids to the pool the very next day to take videos of them inside water. I had ensured that I closed the ports and also my family checked again for me. (Remember that I had taken extra caution since I had bad experience earlier with my phone (refer to issue 1))
Took few vidoes underwater and we were happy. An hour later I found that my phone was fully dead this time and indicators showing red inspite of closing the ports properly.
Guessing the service center guy would definitely not honor warranty, I wrote an email to SONY immediately asking for refund as I was fully frustrated , feeling I was fooled and cheated and royally taken for a ride with my time and money.
Not to my surprise the service center person said the warranty was void and will send me the estimate. While in the service center I had realized that both the flaps were interchanged during the first service. The service center guys said that should not be an issue as both the flaps are same. Not sure how far its correct.
I feel this is unfair to loot me this way without my mistake. I am deeply hurt with the way things went with SONY.
I do not want to use my insurance as it was not an accidental damage , its product flaw and poor built and non-water resistant product.
I want SONY to solve my issue as its not my mistake at all , I am in full conscious with my whole experience in the pool that day.
I am not hopeful of SONY anymore until you resolve this issue .
Embarrassing experience for choosing SONY, time spent and disgusting experience of visiting service center from the time I bought this phone.
Yesterday I collected my phone from service center without getting repaired , as I was told that I have to pay for the service , that too huge money!. Customer care manager was of no help, he kept saying it was an L4 technician check...don't know what that means...all I know is the phone is dead inspite of ports being closed.
This experience makes me feel those days have gone where SONY had good products and service.
I am not new to SONY , I have used SONY W810i, SONY P1i, Xperia previous Android Series, SONY C3 Dual, Z1` and now Z3 compact. This should say enough that I am not new to SONY and not very new to waterproof phones. I cannot afford not to close ports after all the earlier experience with service center.
Did anybody face similar issues? if yes how did you get it right within warranty?

I never did dip any of my Xperia's in the water despite owning the Z1 Compact and Z3 Compact but the best option would be to bring it to the nearest Sony Service center, being here in XDA I can only assume you already rooted your phone and probably unlocked the bootloader which already voids the warranty.
Warranty void since SONY says ports were not closed properly...

I never rooted my phone, not that tech savy,
Simple, I wanted a phone which could take videos in water, i had ensured that ports are closed with ultra care and then took videos of my kids in water, that's what I bought the phone for, otherwise there are better options like Apple etc, and the swimming pool is a fresh water pool. Water entered the phone and showed the indicators in the ports ' red'. SONY says that ports were not closed(which is not true). I have been reading posts where there are many people who faced similar issue and warranty was not honored by SONY. Not sure how to solve this issue.
Despite the z3 compact and sony's claims of it being waterproof, I would not test sony's claims. I love my z3 compact and IF I was to take video's underwater, I'd still invest in a waterproof case just to ensure that the integrity of the phone and sony's warranty. So upon reading the Original posters thread, There is no way I'd take this phone underwater now, especially if sony refuses to honor their warranty.
Taking videos underwater works for me though. I used it in the pool for over an hour. I guess you're just unlucky :/ i also wash it every now and then

Hi, all!
I've never thought I will write this story on some forum but now I'm totally clueless what should I do...
I was a happy owner of Z1 Compact with root and Android 4.1.1. After one year the headphone connector stopped working.
Official repair gave me a Z3 Compact in return. Cool!
After 5 months the jack connector started pausing the music, later one channel stopped working. Phone was rooted and running 4.1.1 same as previous. I've sent it to official repair centre and it returned 2 days later. Broken. Touch screen is not registering touch, image on the screen sometimes flickers and shifts to 3 different colors (broken motherboard?).
Oh, and headphone jack is still broken.
After contacting Sony and repair centre I was told that my warranty has ben canceled because of unauthorized changes in phone (root? they never told me).
I've exchanged emails for over two months and nothing. I've lost my phone.
What do you think, what should I do? I'm afraid that if I go to court I will be smashed to pieces by their lawyers and it will cost me much more than a new phone...

Sorry, I know it's not very helpful, but I would recommend always removing root and restoring to stock firmware before sending any device in for warranty work. I hope someone can help, but I would say that Sony now have your IMEI blacklisted and you're scuppered.
Maybe try with the shipping company and see if it's insured up to a certain amount perhaps?

I have thought about it but decided against - based on two previous cases when they didn't care about the root...
Hi @milu_ , here is direct from sony:
Code:
Is the repair will cost?
If the problem is covered by warranty, repairs will be free.
If the problem is not covered under warranty or if the device is out of warranty, you will get a quote for the cost of repair. If you do not want to pay for the repair, we will return the device at a cost of 28.58 EUR. The cost includes the exam fee, shipping and administration.
After selecting the device can access information about the warranty and some price indications repair out of warranty.
So basicley , ask Sony to send you the phone as it is !.. You only be charge of 28 euros for check the phone and shipment !
Then remove the root and send it back

Hi, thanks for input The problem is that I have received the phone back. They didn't ask me for any money for shipment or repairs. They've just sent it back and canceled my warranty.
I've asked them why they didn't ask me for money for the repair. They didn't mention anything that would resemble a answer to that question in around 20 emails we exchanged.
I've asked them if I could send the phone to them for repairs that I would pay for. They replied that my warranty is no longer valid. One woman from Sony (to whom i talked on the phone) said something along the lines "sorry but now you have no business with Sony" and the case is closed.
i always re-flash my Z3 compact before i send it to repair
Try getting legal or consumer advice from wherever deals with this kind of thing in your country.
Here in the UK although they could try and cancel the warranty, it doesn't remove automatic consumer protections under law. Sony would have to prove rooting caused the defect, otherwise they are still liable for the repair even without warranty.
But this would have to be done all in court, and most will not want to bother (even though county court is actually pretty cheap here and easy to do).
