Bluetooth is not working in Sony Xperia ZR - Sony Xperia ZR

Just 3 days ago i purchased my sony xperia ZR. The model is C5502. Yesterday i found that the blutooh is unable to find other bluetooh devices and my working nokia mobile also can't detect C5502 device. Today i got confirmed that buletooh is not working in my device. On the other hand my friend took C5503 (LTE version) he already got an update and his device is fine. I heard that many other people experienced this same problem. This is my first andorid mobile. I put my trust on sony and sony broke my heart. Is there any way to solve this serious issue. I already post an report to sony mobile official forum and looking forward to hearing form them. I actually never expected this from sony. But this unfortunate incident happened with me.

Hardware issue as a fact, best temporary solution is to press hard on the NFC icon next to the backlight.....
Awesome phone everything u could ask for, to perfect to be true

Was there a sd card in the phone? Read somewhere that Bluetooth failure is happens after sd card is inserted.

After updateing to 4.3 bluetooth works normal

Even my C5502 bluetooth is not working. It fails to recognize device even after I press the NFC (near the camera flash).
I do not know if it is a hardware issue or firmware issue.

Bluetooth Issue in Xperia ZR
- I've also faced the same problem
- Did try SBH-20 with other handset and couldn't have any dificulty to pair it.
- Did repair my C5502 with PC companion and reinstalled 4.3 and then did the factory default setting.
Later found that its the bluetooth hardware issue.
I went to service center and let them know about all the installations and tweaks I did with my phone. And they happily replaced my set with the newer one within 2 days...!
I must say SONY's after sales service is equally great..

Yea, try this and see if you can get a temp fix. Also, you can try shake the phone and see if you can hear or feel little loos parts rattling. If so you need to send back to factory. The problem might be caused by loose screws on the re-enforcement metal plate causing bad/loose contact with bluetooth module. For this fix, you have to send it in for repair as screen needs to be removed.

Hello,
I have same problem in my xperia ZR. Sony center says they will not open the phone. My phone is out of warranty.
Do you have any idea what exactly the problem is? I want to fix permanently. Your temporary solution is work for me.
Do i go to some local mobile repair shop? I am afraid of those guys because one of friend has very bad issue in local repairs. Can you please guide me if you have any suggestion?

Bluetooth died on my Xperia ZR too. I noticed it just a few days after warranty was over so the service center doesn't want to take it in. The service center guy said it is a known hardware issue and I'm lucky because at least i have Wifi working.
Regarding the fix, i read somewhere that tightening the top three screws on the back and lightly tapping near the NFC logo with a screwdriver can work. I will try it once i get a precision screwdriver set.

Xperia Z power button stopped working.

Hello, I have some big problem with my Xperia Z since yesterday:
The power button stopped working. It doesn't do anything. I can't lock the screen or unlock it. I did not drop the device or something, it just happened.
Sometimes when I press volume up, it acts like the power button and asks if I want to shutdown etc. Also I had the problem that my screen was upside down yesterday. I could not get it good and even changing the launcher did not help. Really strange, as if my sensor was completely going nuts.
Anyway, I am backing up right now, and I will try a factory reset. But this is just strange. I am running 4.2.2.
Anyone an idea what is going on?
Did you recently drop your z in to the water with the flaps open or something?

I recently had it in the shower, but with the flaps closed.
Does it look like water damage?
I've recently had the same problem.
Also took in the shower, but because the backglass was lifted slightly from the case because of the overheating problem, water came inside and messed everything up.
Phone is now being repaired. And they said it is water damage.

Update: I did factory reset but it did not help
And when I turn the device off, it automatically starts again... I think I have to send it for repair then

I just checked the water detection stickers: USB and headphone are colored pink...
Now it is water-damage, this will cost lots of money and I didn't do anything wrong

Just explain to them that, the flaps were closed but still water got in to the phone.
I got the same button failure when water went in during shower. Got a replacement from Sony.
I have sent it for repair. Not to the default repair center in the Netherlands but to another company which is specialized in repairs too. Cleaning the device costs 20 Euro. There is a chance other components will be broken too after opening/cleaning, but they will try their best.
I have chosen this option instead of returning to the shop/Sony. That because the devices in the Netherlands are sent to a company called Dynafix. Although they have 'fix' in their name their reputation is that they do not fix phones. They sent you big bills for unfixed phones. Mine has waterdamage and colored stickers anyway, so I already knew for 99% chance that I will have the phone returned unrepaired and have to pay a lot of money just for them to see the colored stickers. Or the chance that they will repair it but that it can cost more than 300 euro (they say they swap a lot of components and charge you a lot)...
I will update when I have my Xperia Z back.

Good luck. Yes I understand. Service center folks are far from being considerate, atleast here in India. They lack knowledge and it's hard to reason with them.
Hello,
After submerging the phone under water it seems that the power button is pressed all the time.
Did anyone have this issue? Did the button start to work after a few hours?
I will try to dry it up....
It seems that all the new phones have issues. (Just switched from HTC One)

Update:
They have 'repaired' my Xperia Z. They swapped the mainboard. It did cost €235...
But I haven't been able to use my device anymore. When they gave my device back I noticed the following things:
- proximity sensor is not working
- notification led is not working anymore
- light sensor is not working anymore
(all those functions worked before I brought the device to them)
I went back to the store and told them about these problems. They said: for 35 euros we might be to fix this.
They tried but where not able to fix. I have not paid these 35 euros.
When I came home I accepted my loss of these sensors and I started installing my device and apps.
But there are even more problems!
- At a random time my device switches off, even if battery is full;
- Sometimes I can boot;
- Sometimes it even doesn't boot... Only wipe with Flashtool or through recovery can get the device booting again.
So I have paid an extra €235 and I can still throw it in the bin....
I think I am going to contact Sony...

Sony xperia Z1 left earplug dead

Like title, anyone having similar situation like that ??? 3 normal headset has been tested, basically the phone has something to do with that. Did factory reset and all stuff, nothing works.
There were lots of people suffering that with the same pattern as mine with just left earplug

Last option is to send the phone toward service, i really want to avoid that since i won't be in Australia for a while.

I had this happen to me.
I tried with two different headsets.
Turns out both headsets were broken and the phone was fine.
Maybe that's the case for you too.
Did you try a bluetooth handset? Anyway I know you are in complicated situation but in this case the best thing is send it back to repair via warranty.

I wouldn't be that sure.. I had the same problem, left audio channel didn't work in headphones. I tried 3 different headsets. That problem was in the phone. I've sent it to a repair centre and they replaced my while unit because they couldn't fix the issue. So I would send it in for repair with this problem. I know I did and got a replacement phone.
3 handset and all the same problem? 100% faulty device or jack, send it back to repair.

Watch out with sticking a needle in the headphone jack! There's some special coating in it to make it waterproof! I guess that a needle can make destroy this coating!

Not entirely too late, at least it helped me.
Been trying to find a solution for this same problem and was beginning to think a repair was needed.
Just to confirm...with a needle, after clearing out a clump of fluff sound now plays through both earphones of the 5 different headsets that wouldn't work before.
For anyone else trying to fix this problem either now or in the future, its at least worth a try.
Thanks rvzek
I've noticed that my left earplug have lower volume than the right one. Did someone had this problem?
I cannot remember what caused this, but it's only on the Sony headset and not other. Others are working fine.

[Q] Weird sound given off by Vibrator thru Speaker

Hello All,
My Z1 has recently begun to give off a sort of feedback when it vibrates (via the speakers).
I've ran diagnostic tests on my phone and all tests seem to come back positive and error-free.
However, when I run the Vibration test, sometimes the vibrator works perfectly fine (for about two runs), and then it vibrates with the negative "ZzzzzZzzZ" sound.
Is anyone else experiencing this issue with their Z1? Perhaps someone else (if anyone is experiencing it as well) can further elaborate on the issue. Would really like to get this issue fixed without having to send it back to Sony :crying:
I have the same problem with my Z1 (6903). There's a weird buzzing sound from the speaker right after the vibrator activate. Would love to be able to fix this without sending to Sony as well.

Ahh, that's unfortunate. I live in the Bahamas, so doing that is pretty difficult for me at the moment. Were you able to go to any Sony store, or did you have to go directly to a service center? How long did you have to wait for your replacement?

I will suggest you to go directly to service center.

Hi, I'm also having the squeaky vibration problem. My phone is about 6 months old and I've been having this noisy vibration squeak for at lease 6 weeks now. I'm running slimkit evo 8.1 on a unlocked bootloader. Before I try to get it fixed by Sony, do I need to reset back to stock and lock my bootloader?
Could anyone give me some pointer to what I could say to get the phone exchanged for a brand new one? I can't be without a phone for 2-3 weeks (estimated service time by resale store).
I have a 5 months old z1, and ive had this issue since the first month i bought it....i guess its a weak point, which is pity for a flag**** phone...

Hi macooz,
Sorry for the late reply. If you are sending it back to Sony, you should always revert back to Stock, as custom firmwares void your warranty.
You could simply tell them that your Vibration Motor is not functioning properly (giving off a squeaky noise instead of an actual vibration) and you would like for it to be either repaired / replaced or have your entire phone exchanged for a new one.

I agree with you. Issue is that because the phone is encased in gorilla glass, it makes it a bit difficult to change any parts on your own. Disassembly videos are available on YouTube, but who wants to take the risk of breaking their phone's casing and then have to replace additional parts?

Unfortunately, I agree with Soka on this one. I have had the replacement Vibrator for months now, but a little reluctant to open my device as it requires heating and having to purchase new adhesives and so on. I am getting those items in the very near future though, so I'm going to go ahead and do it!
My best piece of advice would be to purchase a replacement back (in case you crack / break your original one while removing it) and replacement adhesives before actually performing the DIY Fix.
Hi there Im facing this problem too, I open a new thread but then @soka pointed me to this one, I record a video from the sound
they had already replace the vibrator and the main board, but the issue still continue, here is the thread I open:

Hope to get fixed or replaced soon
Well, finally fixed my vibrator problem. I opened the back of my phone using a Hot Air Gun and pry tools, then replaced the vibrator module. Unfortunately, this seems to be the only valid solution.

[Q] ZR > Bluetooth > MotherBoard Replaced > Again Bluetooth

Hi Guys,
Its really frustrating and headache with ZR Bluetooth issues. I have posted the below on Sony official forum regarding the same issue.
I need your valuable advice. Please suggest asap, because Warrantee of my phone is lapsing in 10 Days.
Any Possible solution please:
Shall I try Custom rom?
Shall I give for again replacement?
Shall I downgrade Firmware?
Below is the stuff I posted on Sony Forum. It will give u clear idea.
Code:
I got my Phone's motherboard replaced (God knows with a new one or old) due to the issue of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi wasn't working.
First of all, Sony Authorized Customer Centers in India are handled by so illiterate people. They don't know how to handle customer. I don’t know why they are always in hurry with listening properly to customer.
So when I asked for the issue with Wi-Fi and explained her that this can work if I put pressure under NFC it can work. She wasn't at all interested to listen and told Motherboard will be changed.
After 10 days they gave me a new set, I can clearly recognize it was a new out of the box.
So my Bluetooth worked for 10 mins and again its dead.. After two day it again worked 10 mins and again dead...
Wi-Fi is working fine....
So shall I again ask to replace it/motherboard replace/or fix or Whatever the **bleep** they want to do with it.
I feel its worldwide issue with this phone. How promising it will be that it will work even after going to them?
Sony Listen please:
Is it a s/w, driver, ROM issue?
If its S/W issue> release a statement that you can't solve the issue to your all customers and stop producing ZR units
Is it a H/w issue?
If its H/W issue> How WiFi and FM are working fine? Without a glitch?
Clear your thoughts in official statement.
For my phone warrantee is only 10 days to go and after this voila.
So please suggest shall I go with again one more replacement or the solution they will do. But I'm pretty much sure they don't know WHAT EXACTLY THE ISSUE is. Bunch of losers hired by Sony.
And Sony: Lesson learnt.
I will even go for Nokia 1100(if it comes back: P) instead of going any phone with you. I have been frustrated a lot from your junk of electronic piece.
If your authorized member can comment on this thread, a bit of hope to provide?
Thank You,
Urgent suggestions please.
Thank You,

I don't know whether this may sound new to you or not but Xperia ZR can not be repaired.... It can only be replaced with another Xperia ZR from the service center. If someone claims from the service center that they have changed the mother board of your phone then either they are lying or they haven't don **** to your phone. As this phone can only be opened in special environment. As once opened in normal environment, it loses the most important feature. It won't be waterproof anymore. I researched a lot before buying this phone. I have got my phone replaced already. And even my girl friend has this same phone. She also got it changed because of the same WiFi issue....
My suggestion to you would be, visit the service center away from your place. Do find the service center receipt from the last repairs as they may ask for records. Ask them to simply change it....
Relax bro. As I suspect, they didn't even open your phone and simply said they changed the mother board of your phone. This handset would be replaced with a new one.... Do write about your experience.... So that other people from India also get to know about it.... :good: :good: Wish you luck.... :good: :good: :good: :good:
Was living with the Bluetooth issue, postponing the resetting, which was reputed to solve it. 4 days back, got the wifi issue too. Factory reset did not help. Also noticed that sd card did not mount as mass storage device. Since the issue is almost a month after the 230 upgrade and the. 0.20 mb mystery upgrade, any chance that the issues are related to 230 firmware?
Have not yet triedmass storage mode after gactory reset,
Any body with wifi issues tried downgrading from 230? All my upgrades have been through OTA.

MY Bluetooth dont work since a month... Been working on and off for 6 month...
Wifi had assox reject error for a few month but now its solved. Wifi works great, better reception than my xz1... Dunno wth is wrong with this phone, but bluetooth and wifi issue are unrelated.
Found the right spot to excite Wifi works now. Bluetooth is still dead.
Update -- looking inside the backcover, there is a ridge running inside. Thinking of making a washer like round to maintain the pressure on the g spot. Any ideas?

Main Microphone not working. Software issue?

I got the phone new monday
I've done testing and I have no sound on the main microphone
It just replays recorded noise
Is it hardware or is there a known fix to this issue ?
thanks
If it's a new phone, you should probably just return it and ask for another... Someone on a finnish forum was complaining about the same issue of microphone not working and said that he got a new phone from the store and the problem was gone.
Maybe Sony has had a bad batch?
Hello! I have the same problem...
Does anybody know if is a software of hardware issue?
If you bought a new phone from a store, why not just return it and ask for a new one? If it's defected from start, I wouldn't try to fix it myself but demand a working one.
Can't do it. bought it new from someone
Is somebody that solved this issue? VHollund?

That someone should have a warranty
In my case I bought it from internet store in france and we have 14 day retraction right + 2 years warranty, so I send it back
It was not a software problem
You can test the microphone by going into the systems settings on the phone
If you have no warranty, you can use a head set which is what I do most of the time anyway not to get my brain fryed
It will stil work on speaker sphone where the 2nd microphone is on
Some developers might be able to help you hack it to use only the 2nd mic
I've seen inconclusive threads about it

I have discovered that Sony put some rubber over the microphone and that's why it wouldn't work The microphone is fine

I recommend you go in a service to get it dissasembled. Thatrubber you just get it off and put in with the hole over the mic hole, not covering it. But if you have warranty i reccomend you get one new
If you do this you will void your warranty and it will not be water ressistant anymore
It took more than a month from the order but i received a new one yesterday and it has passed the tests
It seems to be a great little phone, I just wish the camera was better
It's very grainy and my 2016 samsung A3 took better pictures with only 13M rear camera
Decided to stay on Oreo for now since Pie does'nt seem to fix the grainyness
