I think that the easiest would be to reflash the rom (ftf) via flashtool while excluding the data wipe options. This way you will get the update center back to its normal function.
Here you go.
A lot easier than downloading a whole FTF for a 1 MB apk

Thanks, but the only .257 firmware that works rooted is a custom rom from here installed via dual recovery cwm, a flasheable zip, and not have the apk.
and flashing the ftf excluding system give various apps ( bloatware ) back, but not the update centre.
i have and original APK and the odex file, copied to system apps, set permisons and nothing.
another sugetions?
Thanks!!!!!

You do realise that if for example your phone had TMobile ROM on it it will download the TMobile ROM in that tutorial. I have done it myself. I am with Telstra (in Australia) and I followed that tutorial and as soon as I flashed the ROM I downloaded I saw the Telstra splashscreen.

Just to clarify further. It would be three firmware. Three would be pised off if sony unbranded everyone lol. They have carrier agreements. So your ftf would be three branded

I am afraid I am a noob here on that. I had just followed the tutorial to the T and created a FTF that can be flashed with flashtool. Been using this for the past two weeks when ROMs can't be rooted/CWM can't be installed.

All I'm saying is that I followed the tutorial word for word and VipeR lx is right when he clarified things up that if your XZ is branded you would still get the downloaded ROM branded, just like what happened to me. Luckily there's a unbranded ROM for Australia which made it possible for me to de-brand my XZ. I do have the Telstra ROM saved so if ever I had to send it away for warranty repairs I can always flash the Telstra ROM back.
Me too. I used the update services software to download. After downloading the file and flashing with flash tool, there is no indication that this firmware is linked to any Telco.
Maybe if someone can flash and report?

I flashed this and screwed it seems. It's a demo set's firmware
Once the screen dims and try to go off, the demo video starts up. I don't know how to get rid of this even after I flash my original FTF's system :'(

Strange, bro.
Did you even manage to get into the setup? 5 steps to setting up your phone? I had that demo video. but after setting up the phone, all is well.
I had tried this firmware a few times after installing ROMs that are based on the 434, as somehow, I lose 3G with these ROMs. I couldn't even root the phone with the method described.
So I flashed back to the stock 350 firmware and root the phone and install the CWM recovery in the phone again.

I wanted to debrand as mine is attached to SingTel. I flashed this over my existing setup and didn't do a wipe. Now it has screwed up that I can't turn the screen off at all (finally I killed that some demo application and off now). Luckily didn't loose data except the home screen setup.
I will have to reinstall the whole thing tonight.
Is that the retail demo you are talking about?

U did flash with flash tool and not recovery right? If you do flash with flash tool, all data is lost.
I think this is unbranded as the apps from M1 which I got this phone from is not present in the FTF after flashing with flash tool.

Who knows maybe the M1 apps in your phone was not integrated to the ROM and it was only installed on top. I can't really tell. I just know that when I did the tutorial I still got the Telstra ROM.
Also using the Flashtool you have a choice of wiping data if you don't untick the boxes before you flash.
EDIT:
There is the
(FTF) C6603 10.1.A.434 Cust ID 1270-1412_R6A Singapore available in that thread. The handset apparently is from M1 so I'm not sure if it's branded or not.

No don't remove the thread. If you didn't get M1 apps after following that tutorial then the M! apps must have been installed on top of the ROM that's probably why you never got any M! apps when you reflash.
Keep this thread it's always a contribution that you made and plenty of people will have use for it.

I flashed with flashtool and there is option not to wipe.
This firmware is confirmed not the generic as I have seen this SI/CDA number in the demo set. Retail sets (so far I've seen) begins with 1270, but if you notice this begins with 1272. Moreover, none of the retail sets will run the "demo" video when you start your phone and worst is that it won't let your phone to switch off the screen.
I don't know how you ended up with this firmware on your handset!

Alright I am new to the XZ, i use to have the X Play a long time ago, but havent messed with BL unlock, flashing, rooting or anything in awhile. I had a question, if i unbrand my TMobile XZ to an unbranded version, will i then be able to unlock my BL? Or does that remain unlockable regardless?

As @gm007 said, it is advisable that you do a repair using SUS before doing anything else.
After that, if you're still on an older firmware (going by your signature) download any full .253 ftf (Find it here) and flash it in flash tool.
Ensure that you wipe everything when flashing.
Once you've updated to .253, root it & install 2.4 release dual recovery.
Then follow the instructions from here to update to .423.
If the instructions are unclear, just ask, I'll elaborate on whatever you didn't understand.

OP is on neither of those firmware versions, but yes, using a full FTF for .423 there shouldn't be any problems coming from .407. The only potential problem could be if the ROM you're coming from contains a different NFC firmware and the destination ROM doesn't flash a compatible version. But since .423 does do this there shouldn't be any problems in this case
So i should install .423 via flashtool?

I'm not sure how the FlashTool process works. Does it wipe the data partition? If so there might be an option to not wipe it, I don't know. But if your device is rooted you can just back everything up with Titanium Backup (make sure to backup to external SD card) and restore the data for those crucial apps afterwards.

You can exclude app wipes and try to preserve data but I would recommend to wipe app and flash clean and fresh 4.4.

The apps will remain if you use Pccompanion but you will loose root. However if you use flashtool there is an option to wipe everything, so you can choose if want to leave the apps or remove them.
The best way is by using "SEUS"...Cleanest and best method ever existed...
It wipes out everything!
