HTC One wont boot - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I decided to install the new Android revuloution rom (4.4) and I did so by usig ADB sideload in TWRP. I forgot to wipe cache and now it wont boot up at all. I oress and hold the power button and all i get is the home and backbutton flashing three times. When i put it into my computer, i hear it gets detected but nothing happens exept HTC Sync opens up. When i look at conected devices it sais that i have a device called"Android phone" connected. Nothing else. Please help

press and hold power until the home, back and recent apps ? then they stop flashing and the screen goes black, let go of power and press and hold volume down until bootloader comes up.

Had this same problem today in fact. The solution works well.

can you grab an adb lolcat? the boot loop could honestly be due to any number of reasons .. also try to reboot with CALL+MENU+END and then while it starts hold down HOME button ... if you get to recovery then you're not bricked
I can't connect to adb shell (i start my phone and try to list device with adb: i see nothing)
And start with CALL+MENU+END doesn't work (continu to reboot)
Thanks for your answer.
If you have other solution ...
I try to start my phone with trackball hold down and power button and it get me a black screen and the phone led is BLUE.
Can it help me?
I have the same problem. The phone is totally original. It started yesterday when, for an unknown reason, the com.android.phone not responding started to popup.
Now the phone seems to be in a eternal loop on the HTC boot screen with the annoying chime.
I can get into the fastboot mode, but the phone is not in debugging mode...
At least the phone is still under warranty.
If you can get into fastboot or recovery you dont need debugging on
I fixed the problem by doing a hard reset. I lost everything, but at least the phone is working as new.
Backup. Backup. Backup.
And yes, 3 identical copies in 3 places isn't unheard of.
Concerning my contact, I though they where sync automatically to my google contacts, but it wasn't the case.
What are the best backup apps for android?
MyBackUp Pro, BackUp for root users (this ones free)

hard reset without power button

Hello.
I have a nexus one and the power button is (really) broken.
I need to hard reset the phone, but without power button it seems difficult to confirm "restore" choice from the list.
There is a tool on windows or linux to hard reset my phone?
Or an other way?
Plz, plz, plz
What do you mean by hard reset?
If you want to reset to factory, you can go to home>menu>settings>privacy>factory data reset
If you want to do a full power off, power on cycle, you can let the phone run down to the end of its life and then it will shut itself down (there may be a widget or a battery pull that can shut it down also, not sure). Once the phone is powered down, plug it into a power source. (leave it for a few minutes if you did the battery drain method). Then while the phone is still plugged in, remove the battery cover and remove the battery, wait a few seconds then put the battery back in. Wait a few seconds and the phone will boot up. If it doesn't boot up, repeat the battery pull and insert until it does.
to do a hard reset :
press power button + trackball + volum down;
then the phone will reboot with a special menu, choose recovery and confirm by pressing the power button.
I want to do this, but ... I don't have a power button ...
So, what can I do to have the same result without p.b. ?
thx
You can download terminal emulator from the market.
type the command "reboot recovery" press enter.
Also, you can download an app called Quickboot from the market, it will allow you to choose reboot, reboot recovery, or reboot bootloader.
Are you rooted?
Hello A.B.
First, yes I'm rooted.
But there is still something I didn't say before, my phone is locked and I don't remember the schema and the recovery with the gmail address doesn't work.

Ok got it. You will have to use ADB via the Android SDK.
The same recovery command will work in ADB. Go to command prompt, cd into your sdk tools directory. Run (<adb devices> first to confirm connection) then <adb reboot recovery>
This will take you to Aman Ra or Clockwork where you should be able to navigate with trackball and the VOL DN.
Not so good if you can't get in to turn USB debugging on though
Unsure but if you are needing to use recovery I can vouch psfreedom recovery uses track ball instead of power button to select / for back / etc. Hope it helps.
Edit : PS_my power button has good n bad days as well. Might I also recommend quick boot and lock widget from market if anyone has this problem.
N1 running psfreedom recovery and MIUI! sent via XDA app =D
I've tried the method you describe above and I get this message " error device not found" ( when the phone is booted, shutteddown, in reboot mode, ...)
bump .. would like to know answer to this too.
Power button is dead.
Nexus one can't got pass the boot animation, but stuck in the lock screen as the thouchscreen doesn't register (perhaps the ROM is corrupted??)
I'm able to get to HBOOT menu, but can't select hboot item as the power button is dead.
Any solution?

I am having a smartphone of different company but facing the same problem. My smartphone has got screen-locked. My smartphone's power button is broken, and also it doesn't interact when plugged-in a computer or laptop. It just keeps on charging. My laptop, too, never displays that a new device/driver has been added to it.
Hence, I can't hard reset, am not able to open the phone and can't use any external software to make it follow any commands.
Is there any other way, like controlling my phone or hard resetting it via wifi from my laptop.
If such an method exists, I would really like your help.

[Q] Only 'X' is being displayed and then reboot help please.

was using my nexus one as i was switched it off removed the sim card from this phone placed it in another phone... left my nexus one on charge and turned it on left the room when i got the vibrate didnt even saw wether it was completly on or not... came back home saw the phone off... tried to turn it on but it wouldnt.... then connected the charger to the phone then turned it on and it shows a X and a unlocked sign at the bottom stays for a while and then the screen gets black and the same thing happens over and over again
Its going in a reboot loop I think.
Try going into the bootloader by pressing the trackball and power button together.
and then enter bootloader and then recovery.
In the recovery select reboot.
Btw do you have a nandroid backup?
I do have a backup lying around somewhere but i'm not sure of that. And i tried that boot loader thing but when i go to that menu as soon as i press the volume - button the phone boots off again
did you try the 3 finger:
pwr/vol-/trkball at same time may take up to 20 seconds to boot into bootloader
or, may need to use fastboot from command terminal and flash new recovery/rom like passimg to go back to stock then upgrade from there
pass image method is in wiki
Try this:
- Press the power button and the trackball together
- Select Bootloader and then Recovery
- Flash a different ROM (Stock\CM\MIUI\or try flashing again your current rom)
- If it doesn't work, flash a new rom AND wipe data and cache

[SOLVED]Can't boot to bootloader

I finally found solution! Bootloader on my phone isn't nearly same as usual one, no white screen, just a few lines which designate modes. 4 are present:
-normal boot
-fastboot
-recovery
-UART boot
I accessed it by pressing and holding power button and volume up button at the same time during device boot.
I hope someone with a same problem will find this helpful!
I managed to boot to system but I still can't get in bootloader. No combos and neither adb works.
I got my HTC One from second hand several days ago and I instantly noticed that something wasn't right. System was naked, no bloatware, no usual settings, no proper identification so I decided to install custom rom. I tried to boot to bootloader which I wanted to unlock(I guessed it's locked 'cause recovery is stock) with key combos, adb but it simply didn't boot to bootloader nor it rebooted or sometimes it went to factory mode which is on chinese. Again, I tried to find which version of phone I own but I can't figure it out. Moreover, I downloaded and put stock rom on virtual sd card and booted to recovery, opened menu with power button and selected to install package from zip just like it's said in thread but it outputted 'Install /sdcard...' and nothing else for past couple hours. Recovery isn't frozen, It shows\hides menu when power button is pressed. I tried to force shut down it by holding only\in combination with power button\volume buttons but nothing happens. I don't know what else to do...
Any help would be appreciated.
EDIT: It eventually discharged but when I turn it on with charger in it I get blinking white screen on every 3 seconds and when long pressing power button phone just vibrates. In combination with volume down it keeps blinking on every 3 secs and with volume up on every 5 seconds. To me, it looks like it's trying to boot but bootloader can't find anything installed. Computer is recognizing usb device on the moments when I connect it with usb just like when device is rebooting.

You have a fake phone
I agree, you've probably got a counterfeit One, but you can't flash custom roms from stock recovery anyway.
Firstly, thank you for any answer. How do you mean 'fake'?! I got it in original box and IMEI's are same(on box and device) What can I do with it then?
I tried to flash stock rom designed for stock recovery, at least that's how I understood.
MIDN07100 (Europe, a guy from which I got device claimed that it's from England so this should fit)
IMEI:354436053103493(same on device and on box, checked with IMEI checker it appears as valid HTC One device)

Mi A2 won't do anything other than fastboot

Hi there.
I've had a Mi A2 for a few month (January) and really like it. It's been great up til yesterday, when I tried to get it out my pocket and was greeted with a recovery-mode looking menu, telling me it couldn't boot and that files might be corrupt, etc. I had the option to either factory reset or try to reboot (shown with Try Again). I kept trying the Try Again option, and it eventually politely told me to f*ck off, and decided to just boot to the Android One splash screen. I'm able to get into Fastboot, but when I open cmd on my PC and try to use Fastboot, it'll say permission denied for most things other than a reboot, and ADB just won't recognise the phone - USB Debugging was never enabled. I've tried the volume up and power button, and it just reboots the phone again and again.
Help!
Thanks in advance.
- Taylor
Mi A2 start you off with the plan Jane stock Android recovery.
Now you need to press and hold both the Power and Volume Up buttons at the same time
You’ll feel a vibrate when you first press these two buttons, but keep holding them
You can let go of the Power button once you see the Android One logo
However, you need to keep holding the Volume Up button
After the Android One logo screen, you will be taken to the stock Android Recovery splash screen
Once you see this little green Android then you can let go of the Volume Up button
This is only a splash screen though and we need to bypass it with a combination of buttons
You won’t see this screen if you have a custom recovery like TWRP installed
At this splash screen press the Power button and then press the Volume Up button immediately afterward
This step can be tricky and sometimes it just boils down to luck.
it will take you just 10 tries until U got passed it... PP (kidding)
After you have bypassed the stock Android Recovery then you’ll be taken directly to the menu screen.
Good Luck .
