Has anyone opened the G Flex yet so as to know the dimensions of the battery? I understand it is supposed to be using the BL-T8 3500mAH battery. I am asking to see if it can fit and be used for a nexus 5. Is there anything in the documentation that states the phone is not to be flexed flat? Please forgive me if this seems off topic.

Going on 16hrs and 4 hours on screen time with 63% left. That's heavy use including Web browsing, music, a lot of Tapatalk, playing Dead Trigger.

Coming from the Note 3. Which was a beast on battery. This puts the Note battery to shame.

So I did some research
Yea.... we know that almost all phones using Li-Ion battery type....(example samsung galaxy s 4 (Li-Ion 2600 mAh battery)
our G Flex using Li-Po battery type ( Li-Po 3500) as many apple devices.
Li-Ion is Lithium-ion
Li-Po is Lithium polymer

Lithium-Ion Battery
Lithium-Ion Batteries began their development in 1912. However, they did not become popular until they were adopted by Sony in 1991. Lithium Ion Batteries have high energy-densities and cost less than lithium-polymer batteries. In addition, they do not require priming when first used and have a low self-discharge. However, lithium-ion batteries do suffer from aging – even when not in use.
Lithium-Polymer Battery
Lithium-polymer batteries can be dated back to the 1970′s. Their first design included a dry solid polymer electrolyte that resembled a plastic film. Therefore, this type of battery can result in credit card thin designs while still holding relatively good battery life. In addition, lithium-polymer batteries are very lightweight and have improved safety. However, these batteries will cost more to manufacture and have a worse energy density than lithium-ion batteries.

article by Matthew Sabatini on October 18, 2011.
Li-ion are cylindrical cells, most are not designed for super-high charge and discharge rates, and the cells are typically protected with an ASIC designed to prevent overcharge/overdischarge.
LiPo can be made in different shapes, they have higher voltage and are naturally suited to high discharge, many have no ASIC at all so charge LiPo batteries with original charger only to bypass the problem with a different voltage!
and very funny video I found :good::laugh:
now I'm scare to leave at charge this phone at nights next to me lol

I'm not getting nearly the battery life that others are claiming.
I just calibrated my battery this time, so we'll see how it goes.
Please post a screen shot of your 'settings -> about phone -> battery usage' and click on display and tell us the 'time on' numbers.
I have about 2 hours of 'time on' time, and I've gone through a third of my battery. And I have very conservative screen settings. I don't see any way I could get the reported 9 hours of video time that Engadget reported.
I'm not complaining though - on my mytouch 4g, I could get probably 3-4 hours of screen time on a battery. Considering how powerful this phone is, and the size/resolution of the screen...... No real complaints.
- Frank
P.S. Can you imagine a hyperion extended battery? The stock mytouch 4g battery is 1400, and the hyperion extended is 3500. So a hyperion extended battery for the note would be ..... 6250 mah??!?!? [email protected] What we need is an ibm 'slice' type of battery - that wouldn't add much thickness.

I can't wait until ICS & devs start making ROMs & kernel for the Note. I think then, we will see the Note truly shine.

What kind of battery life test would satisfy you then?
For instance:
I have used a variety of phones over the last 6 months (BB Torch 9800, Torch 9810, BB Bold 9700, Bold 9900, Galaxy 7" Tab P1000, HTC WP7 Mozart) and none of these devices can deal with my pattern of usage every day without at LEAST 2 full depletions and recharges of the battery.
I'm looking to the Note to be the first phone that can last a day, or at LEAST a day with only one recharge.
Engadget reckoned they got 9 hours of video playback on one charge. I do hope that this is indicative of the notes performance...

I am a heavy user. The only battery test I want is if the batter has juice left in it when you are ready to go to bed. I have a 4G Infuse, the POS would die in 6 hours. So lame.

Your post doesn't tell how the battery life is good. The part that consume the most of the juice is the display and I can see from your post that the screen of your Note was awake just for a little time...
So, trying a browsing and video experience would give us a better idea

That's a known ROM/kernel bug in Gingerbread, with AOS taking up so much time. It will be fixed in custom ROMs - though who knows if Samsung will fix theirs ??
Battery tip, if you have NO SIM card in, "cell standby" will tear through your battery in no time. Put it in airplane mode, then enable wifi FTW.
I'm having the same problem. Really frustrating. Needing a recharge every 12 hours or so. And I'm not a heavy user :-/
Dear all,
Today I change a animate wallpaper to static, the result is good, my battery level after same hour, same use is much better.
Before, I full charge at nigh, start use the phone from 7am, web, email at cafe to 8am, have some phone call, email, and web again from 9pm to 11pm.
With animated wallpaper, at 11pm battery is 0, but today, its still at 50%, its good!

Animated wallpapers are battery death unless they are pseudo animations like that melting droid wallpaper which is effectively a giant battery meter. It's like playing a movie constantly.
When judging battery life, you should take in account that if you just have bought the device, you maybe are using it more than you will in the future. (I said maybe, don't jump at me )
I did... And I got 12 hrs or something.... I think that I will manage a good day with it in the future.
Of course the largest consumer of juice will be the screen... So, use a low brightness whenever you can.
And, I bought Juice Defender + from the Market, this seems a good investment and works fine on the Note. (Free version does too)

I can live with a data connection that just every 15 minutes goes on to check mail etc.
(although some people complain when they don't hear from me within a minute )

A good portion (about 4 hours) of the day was spent inside a building that results in poor reception. As a result, there should've been more battery drain during that time. Also, I have wifi enabled almost the entire time.
The screen was on for almost 2 hours.
The Nexus 4 gets plenty of deep sleep.
Some notes about my activity. I listened to music through a bluetooth headset for about 20 minutes. I sent and received over a 100 text messages. Wifi was enabled and connected almost the entire time. Autosync for email, contacts, calendar, facebook, and twitter are enabled. I have Tasker running in the background. I played around on some social apps (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc) and downloaded/updated a few apps.
This is probably light to moderate usage in my eyes and would easily get you through an 8-hour work day. Battery drain was between 5% and 7% per hour, depending on when during the day you calculated it. It usually averaged around 6% drain per hour though.
I'll probably take a few more screens of my stats tonight before updating to the OTA. I'll then report back tomorrow with similar screens to see if the OTA helps battery consumption at all.
EDIT: I have posted updated stats on page 5. These will include stats after the OTA update.

based on the OP stats, it's doing a decent job. i think it can do a better with further updates to come from Google, i am just not sure since battery life on my G Nexus was horrible.
Ouch that is pretty ****ty battery life for a device you've hardly used. My GS2 would be on like 70% with what you've used....

Keep in mind it should get better after 4-5 cycles. It's certainly not groundbreaking but it's also nothing to sneeze at. With some monitoring you should have no problem making it through a day without charging. I don't like monitoring though, which is why I love this Note 2

Here are some updated usage shots by the end of my day. It averages out to about 7% consumption per hour, giving me about 14 hours worth of battery life.

I wouldn't say it is terrible battery life, but I would say there is room for improvement.
Again, keep in mind I experience a little more battery drain due to poor reception. I saw someone else post a screenshot reaching 18 hour battery life, with almost 3 hours of screen usage.
Hopefully, the OTA provides some better usage times. I'll report back again tomorrow afternoon.

This is really bad. I often reach 6 hours of screen on time on my GS2 with a 2000mAh battery.
I don't understand which part of the Phone is draining that much power,
IPS panels are usually pretty efficient, the S4pro if not pushed should not drain that much either.
The only reason I can think of is that the CPU is spending too much time at the max clockrate with multiple cores online.
Can someone post a screenshot of CPU spy?
I would be interested to see what the battery life is like in airplane mode over a few hour period. One with the screen off (more than likely in deep sleep), the other with the screen on. If the problem is in the jelly bean kernel that can be fixed on xda. If it is the screen draw that is a little different. I have full faith in the developers on xda.

My gut says that the kernel could have used a couple months more cooking time. The hardware is way too efficient for these performances.

There is only one thing that I find really important in any mobile phone: battery life.
Please post the battery benchmarks and real world experience with battery life in this topic. I am especially interested how it compares with the Samsung Galaxy SIII, HTC One X(+) and Apple iPhone 5 in normal day use.
Agree. I'd be very interested in hearing this. Everyone raved about the S3's battery life and I found it really average.
i think the battery life will not be very good thought the XZ have FHD screen
A good italian reviewer said that the battery life lasts only 10-11 hours under heavy usage WITH Stamina mode on, LTE and HSPA+ turned off and push notifications on via 3G from mail, Whatsapp and a couple more apps (you can decide which app has the permission to keep on running even in Stamina Mode). He also says that the LTE module kinda warm the device under stress, the viewing angles kinda suck and that there are mini lags in the UI (problem solved using Nova Launcher).
you can disagree with me all you like.
but to me, there are far too many problems with this phone, and like i say, i think it is outdated tech.
there will be a lot of disappointed people out there.
and battery life is by far and away terrible on this phone.
i've used it.
i can guarantee you will be charging this phone up every 4 hours, unless you know, you don't want to have the screen on at all.

Yes because you have clearly used the phone. Think I'll believe my own hands on with the device with the half hour I had and the battery life wasn't that bad. If you want bad battery life then go use the Nexus 4 or One X - The One will be the same. Go back over to the Samsung forums with the rest of the mindless sheep. Samsung fans are no different from Apple ones. :good:
I tried out phone calls in the three store today nothing wrong with it atall.
So, any real battery tests by users?
Battery life is Decent,
Screen according to the Docomo units and xiFIL is brilliant and nothing to be ashamed of, Viewing angles as proved in the Xperia Z screen discussion thread is not much oof a problem, although samxool likes to look at his phone sideways
Battery is replaceable, just give it to Sony within the 2 years and they will change it for you if seomthing goes wrong, failing that i am sure guides will pop up how to remove the back cover
terrible phone quality, DO NOt judge a phone when you have never used it,
HTC M7 HAD to be clocked higher with the SAME processor as Sense is laggy and slows the phone down,
Samsung octa core propoganda clearly got to you, its 4 + 4 processor, two quads, they do not work together, only one quadcore will be active at any time,
Out of all of the posts here, none had anything to do with the thread. It was all off topic. PLEASE guys, if someone says something that gets under your skin, don't respond to it, report it. Or just move on to another thread

Using the Z yesterday I had over 9 hrs of use with 3.5 hours with the screen on (about 20 minutes of that with full brightness, rest of the time I had it about half brightness), 4g data, wifi and bluetooth on all day, facebook and twitter syncing every hour, email every 30 minutes plus a gmail account for push email, gtalk running full time, about 6 accounts syncing also used the camera a little bit for burst shots before I plugged it in to charge when I went to bed. Still had around 20% left. That is without the stamina mode on or any other battery saving features.
This phone last so much longer than my ion or TL. I don't think there is an issue with battery life here.

Not quite. AT&T and T-Mobile have muddied those terms. Yes it's true 4G but they also call HSPA+ 4G.

My Note 2 lasts only 5 hours with screen on, and it has 3100mah. Most smartphones last 3-4 hours of screen time... since when average is crap ? It's just that - average, nothing special, nothing amazing.

Same here, my Note 2 on average gives me 5hrs screen on, at a push I can get slightly higher but my brightness has to be really low. Those shots above look good to me, they are without stamina mode on aren't they?

Since my iPhone 5 manages 6/7 hours. (And no I'm not a apple fanboy) 3h is rubbish! My S3 managed just over 4h and i know the Z has a bigger screen and resolution but no excuse for putting small batterys in phones that have big screens and high res.
What if you want to compare your battery life with other people using the same Nexus 4. You can do a subjective assessment like the ones in this long tread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1992627&highlight=battery . But every body uses their phone differently and have different programs installed.
I was thinking what could be a good test that complies with the following:
• Be Simple
• Be Repeatable
• Be Comparable between users
• Can spot hardware failure in the battery / charging system.
What do you think of this procedure
1. Backup your phone
2. Charge it 100% and keep it plugged
3. Take out your SIM
4. Do a factory reset (wipe/format)
5. Do the initial configuration skipping everything (no simcard, no wi-fi, no google account, no name)
6. Go to display settings and set brightness to maximum.
7. Turn off Wi-Fi
8. Shut down the phone
9. Disconnect it from the charging cord
10. Turn on your phone.
11. Click on the clock on the home screen and start the StopWatch.
12. The stopwatch screen will prevent the screen to turn off.
13. Wait for your phone to die and record the time it lasted
14. Share how long it lasted in this thread
This would be a synthetic test (does not resemble a real usage scenario) but also is comparable and repeatable because does not measeure a lot of variables or differences between set ups.
RESULTS:
First charge
Battery time 6h 02m
Here is a screen shot taken just before it died.

Second charge
Battery 5h 53m
And an screen shoot taken after charge it again and then turn it on
I can only explain that the in the second charge the battery lasted less because in the first charge I left the charger connected a couple of hours after it reach 100% but in the second charge I started the battery test the moment It showed reached 100%.
It just died at 6h02m. This is for the first charge of a new phone. I really don't know if this batteries have to be conditioned or not. I will ran the test again tomorrow.
Hopefully someone can replicate for the test to be useful.

jeeeeeeeeeeeez... 6 hrs of stopwatch... doesn't mean NO USE
this is interesting though... I will keep reading this thread
All this means is how much time your screen can last with little to no use, factor in network,WiFi, and processor and that number halves
I generally get through the day with 60% juice left, and that's more than enough for me. I feel no need to compare with others since real life usage really varies greatly.
A day at work for me is 10hrs. When I'm at work I set my phone in my locker. When I'm on break I'm on it constantly reading reddit, xda, Facebook and Twitter. Usually get about 2 hrs sot using just data and leave work around 50% get back home and use wifi and get around 4.5hrs by the time I go to sleep and charge. With my old epic 4g touch I'd only get a max of 1.5hrs and that's while using airplane mode with my phone in my locker. I'm fine with how long this phone lasts...

Might try this when I get the time. I've tried a lot of different things and cant get more than 3 hours of screen time on a single charge. It Usually gets me through the day but not always.. standby seems to have improved with 4.2.2.. But when I read about all these people who get 5-6hrs of screen on time with similar usage I'm obviously going to feel like somethings wrong since I have the same phone.. So yeah, I'd like to see if on a standardized test we get the same battery.. then we can slowly narrow down other factors to figure out whats causing the difference.. Cause even with battery stats I dont know why mine isn't lasting as long as other peoples..
Comparing to my iPhone 4S
When downloading apps and browsing the web and stuff, I give the edge to the iPhone. I can stream Slacker Radio and browse the web for about 4-5 hours before hitting 20%. The Nexus only lasts me about 3 1/2 hours. Not a big deal.
Standby also goes to the iPhone. I can fall asleep at night and wake up with about 3-5% drain. The Nexus is about a 10% drain.
The Nexus wins at charge time though. I can fully charge it in less than an hour. The iPhone takes at least 1 1/2 hours.
The Nexus also wins with WiFi. I see no difference in battery drain when connected to WiFi or it turned off. The iPhone takes some noticeable drain when using WiFi.
I give the trophy to the iPhone. Although Android completely voids the inferior battery. Nexus > iPhone.

Actually theres a great reason to check. If you can make it thru the day with a phone with a crapped out battery, that wont be an issue for you but it will be an issue for the next person who owns your phone. It matters because of the resale value of your phone. If you can get an rma that will benefit the next owner, then you should do it just so that it sells better in the future.
So you run the test and find out your phone is damaged on arrival even if you didnt notice at first, and you get it replaced.
It would be very interesting to find that everyone's battery lasts approx the same lol under this situation.
The only limitation of this method is that we do not take into account any leakage of a certain, a more or less efficient processor or modem on someones phone.

It is funny because this is actually why I crated this test. This phone is a RMA replacement of the one I had before with battery issues. It was a pain to know for sure if the problem of my previous Nexus were SW or HW related in this forum I only found subjective opinions on battery life. Nothing to compare and be 100% sure it was in fact a defective battery and not some misbehave app.
So at least I now have a base line to compare if some battery life problems arise again.
Waiting for someone else to run the test to see if results are similar in other nexus 4
So with just stop watch & screen on the phone is getting 6h total time ?

Hello all. Coming from S7 edge.. So far not thrilled with battery life.. Anyone have comments on the battery life they seem to be getting?
Pretty poor too...I feel like my iPhone 6s Plus which I have replaced with the Note 7 was getting much much much better battery life
I've already used Greenify to freeze a ton of apps and used the Disabler Pro to disable a bunch of crap, but still, pretty crappy!
Ugh I miss the Note 4 days, root, customer recovery/rom/bootloader/etc, was customized nicely and got a ton of battery life, plus the huge brick-like ZeroLemon battery which made my phone last almost 2 full days of heavy usage lol
Yes.
Kick down the settings. This is one of the good features within the Note 7.
Settings > Device maintenance > Battery > Power saving mode > MID > Customize > 80%/HD/Limit device performance > Apply
Within "App power monitor" in Battery settings you can manage power hungry apps by putting them to sleep when your device screen is off.
You can turn off features that you don't use.
AskTheAndroidGuy on YouTube has a couple videos in managing battery life and speeding up (which also will help with battery life) the Galalxy Note 7.

Battery life has been disappointing. Granted that I'm comparing to both my OnePlus 3 and S7E. I really hope things even out after a couple of cycles. GSAM battery monitor is showing only 3 hours average screen on time after 2 full cycles. I was getting close to 4.5 on my OnePlus 3. Cmon, Samsung!

i have question. why are you guys even comparing battery life on a phone thats been out for 2 days to a phone that you've used for at least over a month? of course it will suck compared to those. those phones batteries have had a chance to mature and settle in. give the phone a week to settle in. sheesh.

it will only be screen depending on how much you use the screen on that cycle. if your screen is off most the time then android system will use most battery because of syncing all the services you have running. this is normal and not anything to be stressing about. also this phones screen tech is very very efficient. gone are the days when screen eats up your battery.

Same here. Battery life has been sucking so bad on this. My Note 5 was a beast when I first got it. Note 7 battery life has been quite a disappointment so far. Will give it a few more days to see if it improves
Sent from my SM-N930T using XDA-Developers mobile app
As to why complain with only two days use, the S7 didn't need time to adjust.. It's battery life was stellar out of the box. You are going to find the battery life on this is average at best. It's not a huge thing to me as I'm always around a charger but it's a bit disappointing
I still feel as though it is a wee bit too early to comment on battery life entirely, but I am not having too many issues. I came from an S7 Edge. I used Package Disabler Pro to rid myself of the bloatware (albeit there is less on a T-Mobile device). I kicked out the Touchwiz launcher and installed Nova to my liking. I am using a Material theme, and all seems well. There is a bit of increased battery usage, but it doesn't seem too terribly bad.
This battery is bigger than the Note 5 and I remember that phone's battery being better out of the box.
Is conditioning the battery still a thing?
I still say that if you manage your power usage by doing things like lower the resolution, etc (like AskTheAndroidGuy on YouTube shown in his videos) then you can get more battery life per charge. I went from 5am to 3:30pm and still had 81% battery life left. Playing music, scanning barcodes at stores to learn about the products and price comparison, using Chrome browser and Google Now for the same, installed apps, configured apps, and much more (I only watch two five minute videos.). That is 19% of battery for 10.5 hours.
If you keep the Note 7 at highest resolution while using it, watching videos, etc. your battery life will be low. Having such good quality technology also means sacrifice on battery life.
What I am saying is while you on the go why not go for HD (720p) resolution, 80% max brightness, turning off features not using, etc. to get good battery life. Then turn on the highest quality video and features of the device when you are using them.
The tools are there. It is up to you how you use them and the results you get.
BTW - I am running Ocean HD live wallpaper. Very tricky to get live wallpaper running on this thing. But it is another app that uses battery life. Looks cool with the curve glass (especially when the fish swim through the curve glass.

It might be true. However, having owned almost every Samsung galaxy flagship I have found that their latest flagships do not have one particular kind of battery life. On some days it's 5 or 6hrs of SOT and on other days it's only 2 or 3hrs SOT. Some days you have Screen on top of Battery stats and other days you have Android System or Cell stand by killing it all. It's extremely frustrating.
I mean now I am getting what one would call immaculate battery life, I have 1:30 SOT and I am at 80%. I don't even know whether to be joyous for having this battery life as of now or be sad knowing I had a similar experience with Note 5 and other Samsung flagships. They just can't get it right can they?
