[Q] Stock KitKat ROMs can't switch to ART? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

so as the title,I have flashed the newest fw and flash Sense roms &GPE roms from many teams like ARHD Inscertcoin Ordroid etc.I:silly: hope to experience the speed of ART ,so after a new rom is flashed with a full wipe,I changed the runtime into ART and roboot as required, but I've NEVER seen it is booting to the system:crying::crying::crying:,it aaways stuck on the bootanimation,I used to wait up to 1.5hours ,but it was still on the bootanimation
Anyone has the same problem?:cryingr just me?

ART is in development and should only be used by devs who want to test their app. Many users are reporting bootloop with ART while using a custom kernel (maybe this is your situation). I dont know if there is a way to switch back to dalvik without booting. So you might want to do a fresh install of your rom again from recovery.

I am a bit of a noob, however it is my understanding that ART only works on odexed ROMs. I think all Sense ROMs and most GPE ROMs are all deodexed, so that could be your issue. Try an odexed ROM, if one exists (I prefer Sense ROMs so I am not sure what is available for GPE).

Nope ART doesn't work on any sense ROM at all. It only works on GPE odexed

Using ART with SinLessROM GE v5.1.3 currently and I do notice it is smoother and apps open a bit quicker.
You cannot have Xposed installed at all though. Whatsapp requires flashing a file to work though but performs
fine after.
After converting to art you can always convert back easily!

Any ART compatible roms?

Just out of curiosity.. Any one able to get the ART runtime to work properly with any 4.4 roms? I havent tried any stock roms, as out here Rogers hasnt rolled out the update.
I've tried two popular roms so far, and no dice. I even went as far as Odexing the rom and it still wont boot up.
Thanks guys!
ART has bugs in 4.4, need 4.4.2

Stock ROM vs Custom ROM

With all the hype about the official sense 6 ota rolling out I've been considering reverting back to stock w/ root. The reason is I dont use many of the features that custom roms offer, I like how sense 6 looks and prefer it to be stock (no init.d support etc).
I dont care about features or performance, my only concern is battery life, so how does the stock rom compare to custom roms on the HTC One in terms of battery life?

I would say stick to stock as much as possible because custom roms have bugs and u have to wait till devs finds any solutions

I find that quite interesting
you are on xda-developers but recommend staying stock... somewhat of a controversy there, no?
and stock doesn't have bugs?
I have to agree with slogger. I tried most of custom ROMs on xda and none of them can match my stock 4.4.2 in combination with Elemental kernel. I have perfectly smooth, fast phone and my battery lasts around 50 hours off charge with moderate use with CPU OCed to 2.05 GHz

Alright then I guess im going to run an RUU later. One thing though, how do you get a custom kernel to flash ontop of the stock rom?

The same way you flash a kernel on a custom rom. Flash it from custom recovery. Make sure that the kernel you want to use is Sense compatible

I read that that wont work, since the stock rom has a secure kernel. You would need an unsecure kernel in order to be able to write another on over it.
But ill give it a shot regardless.

Just flash it via custom recovery like you wuld flash a ROM

I unlocked my bootloader and flashed Elemental right away, so I guess not
No you don't. The secure kernal affects for example deleting system apps or any bloat software that you don't want. It will be back after a reboot. You can flash anything in recovery no probs

until we get a working custom recovrey like TWRP or CWM- no. once this is achieved, the fun will begin (hopefully). if you have KK, we're all waiting. if you have JB, you may have more room to play with if you know how to develop or "tweak" your phone to your liking. without a recovery, we're all pretty much useless. hope this helps

As far as I know, no one has really been dippin into JB to Dev a ROM or two. I believe there is someone in the CWM/TWRP thread saying that they are going to attempt to Dev a Stock ROM for the time being. kind of like a Hybrid JB/KK style ROM. not sure if he'll have time to do so from what he was postin. Kernels I dont think anyone has actually touched.

It worked for me (and maybe felt a little smoother... Placebo?) on stock rooted with stock kernel, but bootlooped on Nonsense 1.04 ROM with pattiboi's kernel (6/15-build, I think), I'm guessing because the ROM's deodex'ed.
Just have a nandroid handy if you try changing runtime to ART... I had to clean flash my ROM to get up and running again, as I didn't have a nandroid backup (Doh!!) and a dirty flash wouldn't get it to boot either.
I'd rather run Xposed anyway, which I don't think you can run on KitKat if you're running ART

Not exactly sure but I remember it being significantly longer than usual... Longer than first boot after a fresh install but it booted eventually.
Edit: remember that was only on stock odex ROM with stock kernel... Deodex with custom kernel didn't boot, and I wanna say I waited at least 20 minutes before I gave up and pulled the battery

A Good KitKat (4.4) Rom for XSP ???

I've been using CM12 Sabermod for a few months now but lately my phone has started to lag a lot, I've experience the same problems with other Lollipop based ROMs too. I never had this problem in 4.3 but I had to move to 5.1 since some apps that I use daily required KitKat or higher.
So my question is - is there any good KitKat ROM for XSP? If yes, how can I get the best performance for multitasking?
Before change to KK, I should ask: Do you already flash the most recent build?
Another is: Have yout try move apps to SD card?
Another one: Try to clean Cache on the Settings -> Storage (and then Reboot)?
And Clean cache of some apps too manually.
Remembering that to flash a the most recent build, you doesnt need to Backup, BUT... Just for convenience do it.
If none of those above options function well for you, indeed there is a stable and fast KK to our lovely (and hated) SP.
Options I recommend: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64991746&postcount=1320
Or
Last release from CM Team
http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=huashan&type=snapshot
Both are great in performance and multitask like the JB 4.3 Stock.
Is there a good one which has Stock features? As in it has the basic Sony apps. They were quite nifty.

I can recommend snapshot KK too which im using right now http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=huashan&type=snapshot with kernel from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2764939
Another good one was http://forum.xda-developers.com/xpe...anogenmod-11-locked-bootloader-users-t2868398 before I unlocked bootloader.
I havent tried CM13 but cm12.1 never worked out for me properly, either low amount of ram/no deep sleep or other problems such as wifi.
Ok I'll try them out. But I'm looking for something based on the Xperia stock OS.

Just get Xposed Installer from here : http://repo.xposed.info/module/de.robv.android.xposed.installer , install it and open the app -go to Framework-select Install/Update - reboot the phone. Done :good:
Tried using CM11 snapshot and William's kernel as adviced by one of the members above. Currently phone hangs and the screen bleeds and then reboots. Really sad. Any advice?
hey guys i`ve just flashed latest CM11 snap shot rom. but its too laggy specialy on instagram and cause Force close ,
what can i do for it ? . what is the best kernel for this rom ??
Hi, try OmniX ROM - fast, a lot of free memory and no lags at all (I used that with stock kernel):

Hi, a clean wipe should be enough. I did factory reset / wipe data, format system, cache and data, wipe dalvik, then install in that order:
OmniX-Rom, recommended gapps, SU-update. Please confirm to fix super user when asked, then reboot into system. First boot will take some minutes (less than 5).
Which recovery do you recommend I flash for this?

I would try that rom if the led bar was working exactly as it does in the stock firmwares (you know, receiving phone calls, viewing images, making a call etc.). There isn't a way to duplicate that functionality level since it's cyanogenmod-based, right?
