Kies 3 firmware recovery now working MJ5 !? - AT&T Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So after just chatting with Samsung support in twitter, all they finished saying was we hope to have a solution available soon regarding no Kies firmware recovery. So after that , for the heck of it I open Kies 3 and update it. Now when I put in our device model no. and my serial number, it prompts me as show in attached image. I think we have a backup. Have not tried it because it will factory reset, does anyone want to give it a try for the team an confirm?
idk, after looking further it seems it may just do a factory reset, idk, might need someone to test.
I swore I tried this before and it said not supported.
Thanks.
Now to try to pull an .md5 from /temp ... hmmm..
Firmware UPGRADE will not initialize and is typically designated by ATT FOTA instead.

I would love to but can't until Friday.

Still only MI9

Kies webpage says Kies 3 supports : Note 3 and devices running 4.3
@ still on MI9, probably wont get OTA's from Kies, only FOTA from device, try setting your date 2 days ahead and recheck, reboot, etc..

No there still is no MJ5 i tried on my bricked SM-900A, i hope there is a solution coming

I just updated, no go.

Nope...No go

Remove root?

I used one click lag fix to root my device and also a one click decripple to enable non-markets apps. Now I can no longer connect to Kies. Not that big of a deal but I like using the tethering feature it offers.
I tried unrooting and recrippling but Kies still says my device is not supported...
What am I missing here?

Is this Kies Mini or the full Kies? The full Kies, if you have the latest version, does not support the US Captivate anymore. There's a thread about it somewhere around here.

Yes, found this out as well after owning my phone for about three hours thinking there was something wrong with it that it wouldn't connect. I would download Kies Mini (or atleast bookmark it) it's good to have when updates come along etc.
As far as unrooting if you used one click root/unroot just connect your phone as the directions say, same as you did to root, only click the unroot button this time around...
BE WARNED that when I did the unroot using the one click my phone rebooted and I no longer had my background, it was EXTREMELY slow, the notification bar at the top was missing, also I had no network connectivity. To fix all that I had to do a factory reset when it booted up into recovery mode, instead of selecting "install packages". Maybe I was supposed to do this? I have no idea just telling you from my experience I would be sure to have everything backed up before you try and unroot, incase factory reset is needed... however like I said I am not sure, maybe it was just my phone.
Thanks guys. I'm relieved and slightly ticked with att. I really liked being able to use tethering without paying the extra monthly fee, by I can only assume that's what att caught on to... It was full Kies to answer your question. Don't know what mini Kies is. And I used one click lag fix, not one click root. I've been having problems with random shutdowns but nothing major. They need to hurry with an American version of Kies. I can't stand not being able to back up my phone. Again, thanks guys.

Urgent help needed please!!!

Hi all.
My wife hqs a I9003. She was running rooted stock 2.2.1 KB1FW on it. Everything was fine untill about 4 days ago. Thay's when without reason the whole Android system started to fail. Clock, Maps, Messaging, TW Launcher, etc all gave error and forced closed. She only had about 10 or 15 apps installed and all on phone memory. So I did a Factory Restore thinkg it would help but it was all still the same.
So I flashed KPE (all 4 files) and a new error started: after 1 or 2 after the factory restore on new FW, phone crashes and goes in to a boot loop (Samsung logo and intro screen). Once I manage to get back to Android, it's reset to factory settings (install wizzard). I've flashed KPH, KB1, KB3 etc and it's the same problem all the time. Was flashing the APBOOT file from KPE a mistake?? How can I fix this?? I don't have a backup and even if I did, I can enter download mode but not restore mode (Vol Up + Home + Power).
Please, I need help urgently
Thanks

Before this all started did she install some unknown kinda software/app from the market?
Also while flashing did you use Latona.pit file?
Sent from my GT-I9003 using Tapatalk
Nope. Thay's the weird thing. On mine, I'm constantly installing/deleting from the market, blackmarket and other sources and have no problems. All the apps she had, I installed myself and were all "safe".
As far as the pit file, I used it first joint with the other 4 files (like I did for my I9000) and after I used it on it's own. I've tried first the pit file, then the FW files, just the FW files and the pit + FW files with and without re-partition checked... I'm running out of ideas and getting desperate...

Sounds to me like the phone has developed a hardware fault.
Things do just up and die sometimes..
Could it be the battery??? She hasn't dropped or banged it at all. Mine had a slight swim.and is still perfect. If I flash it back to a European KB1, would the warranty still cover me??

Try to do the following:
Select only latona (.pit) and repartition in odin. Put the phone in download mode and flash.
Next reset all. Select pda, modem, csc file from XXKB3 firmware. Dont choose repartition and flash.
hope it works
Sent from my GT-I9003 using Tapatalk
Tell me teh method what you followed to flash? Like first, the pit file with re-partion,auto-reboot and F.reset time checked. And, then, the other 4 file of the SAME Fw with the auto-reset unchecked. Also, Did you click on the reset button after flashing the pit file?

I've done it various ways as I explained in the first post. With and without re-partition, with and without the pit file, etc.
But I had a minor brainwave this morning after the first crash on XXKB3. The microSD she had in her phone was an 8GB she got with her old Xperia. It was used under Symbian and when I put it in her Galaxy, I think I had formatted it with the PC but not with the phone. Can't remember (she has it since May). In any case, she didn't have apps stored on the SD but she did have all wallpapers, photos, music, ringtones, etc. I've now removed the SD and see how it goes. Just thinking that maybe the SD is f****d and could be creating a shortcut or inestability with the phone... Worth a try as I'm all out of ideas.
Thatnks to everyone for the help you're providing me with this issue. I suppose it's weird that after flashing many different ROMs the problem persists and is still the same. If all else fails and I re-flash the XXKB1, do yo guys think Samsung will take responasability for the problem?? I have it unlocked with the app thats on the market, but AFAIK I have the EFS folder backup stored somewhere.
Well phone still switching off with the XXKB3 FW. It's only switching off now tho... No boot loop. And at least now I know it's not the SD at fault. I'll try re-flashing XXKB3 tomorrow as I only flashed it once today. Then I'll do a factory format and reset battery stats once I flash the CWM. If after that it's still the same, I gues I'll have to restore the EFS folder, flash the XXKB1 FW and send it off to Samsung and hope for the best... Unless anyone has any other idea I can try???

No. Anything that is done using Odin voids your warranty so when visiting service centre just flash to the firmware that your phone came out of the box then tell the service centre staff the phone just went crazy or anything like that just dont talk about Odin to them. And try this out.
1. Download an app called Rom manager from the market.
2. Make sure you are rooted.
3. Go into rom manager and hit fix permissions.
4. Reboot.
That should do it. Or else its the service centre.

But if you dont come from russia which the csc says ser which is russia then they will know its definite you used Odin as there is no other ways you could get to a firmware of another region where you don't even come from using Kies unless you hacked Kies which also voids the warranty.

Then the warranty will be voided didnt you see they said warranty will be voided if not bought within the country or something like that.??
Sent from my GT-I9003
That is complex! In, India, You just go into the service center and tell him your problem! He will check the FW version and tell that you void warranty. Just SHOUT at him and tell him you are a developer ..VOILA! He will service it! He will take a hell lot of time for a small problem though!
And if I'm willing to pay for the repair?? Or maybe load a europe CSC file on it... Had a bit of a bright idea today: switch batteries. She's using my I9000's battery at the moment. Let's see if it doesn't turn off. My I9000 fell yesterday, had a rubber cover on it so the bang wasn't bad BUT my loud speaker has blown out seems easy enough to replace and I do laptop repairs so shouldn't be too much hastle to sort it myself. But so much for the Galaxy S being the iPhone 4 killer... Sem to be quite delicate phones...
Bit of off topic: anyone know anything about the Galaxy S 3??? If and when it's coming out and some type of details.. Galaxy S 2 was a big failure with more problems than the one I have according to what I've read on the internet...

1) Galaxy S3 will be launched once Nexus Prime is out (also being made out by Samsung)
2) Nexus Prime will be released some time in October so S3 will probably be released late October or sometime in November (more or less - to compete with iPhone5)
3) Galaxy S2 is one of the hottest selling item in the WORLD right now - i guess you have read some biased reports about its performance issues.
Just thought I'd give you all a quick update on what's happened with my wife's I9003.
After trying everything possible to fix it via flashing, the whole internal memory collapsed. It wasn't even able to finish installing the last firmware I flashed on it.
I took it to the shop, told them what happened and the sent it off to the technical repair service. That was on the 5th of this month.
Got it back today fully working!!!
They changed the main board as a faulty part, so even though it was unlocked with no EFS backup and was flashed numerous times, the guarantee took care of the repair
Tomorrow I'll root it and install ROM Manager and do a backup of the firmware before I flash it to Gingerbread, as they've returned it with Froyo and carrier boot screen. And this time I'll keep a backup of the EFS folder too LOL
I wonder is there anyway to force a main board to break via software, would be interesting for those that have voided their warranty by unlocking or flashing, if the board is broke, any changes become untraceable.
While I'm here, just a quick question: When I do the backup via ROM Manager, will it backup only the PHONE part of the firmware or will the MODEM & CSC be included too?? If it's only the PHONE file, how can I backup the others???
Thanks to all of you that responded to my original post and tried to help me with the phone.

What version of the S4 Active do you have? In your description you said you have the AT&T version (SGH-i537), but you signature says you have the international version (GT-i9295). If you have to factory reset each time you might just want to reflash the firmware and start from scratch.
If you have the i537, you can Odin back to MF1, but you will lose the ability to receive OTA updates. There is also a leaked version of 4.3 (MI2), but the thinking is that since it's an early build there is no way to receive OTA updates either.
If you want the latest AT&T firmware (MF3) with the ability to receive updates, you will have to go to a Best Buy and they can reflash your phone for you. You can read more about this here.
If you have the i9295, go to http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/ and seach for "i9295". Then select your country and you'll be on the latest firmware with the ability to receive updates.
Maybe somebody more knowledgeable than me can will have some other ideas.

If you read what he wrote he said that he has to factory reset to even get it to boot up, that why I suggested Odin back to stock and start from scratch where you know everything will work properly.

I just want to make sure that you're aware you will not be able to receive official OTA updates if you go back to MF1. We will most likely receive an update to Android 4.3 within the next month and if you are on MF1 odds are you will not be able to take the update. This is the only reason I've been avoiding doing anything too crazy to my stock ROM (MF3) other than rooting. If your interested in flashing ROMs and MODs, you might want to take a look at SafeStrap, it will allow you to boot multiple ROMs.
I'm not concerned about that I had the phone sold and when I did the factory reset it went into a bootloop so all I want to do is get a working phone and sell it and the next person can worry about the updates

So I tried rooting my Samsung Galaxy Note 3 SM-N900A with Odin but it went wrong somewhere along the way and now the phone won't start up. When I try to start up, the screen says "firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again" But when I tried to recover in Kies, it always gets to the end and then says that the PC can't recognize my mobile device. I can still access download mode but that's about it. I have tried looking EVERYWHERE and there is no solution! someone please help! D:
Also, I found something online that says that I can recover through Odin and I went through the whole process but when I start flashing, it says FAIL so that didn't work for me either
Did you use RDLV on MJ5 to root? If so, that's probably what bricked you.

That just showed off why your phone got bricked. Rooting a phone got some responsibility. Let this be a lesson for you and read before you root. You will need to download the stock firmware and flash this through Odin. I guess you still can enter Download mode?
Wi-Fi Issues
I also need some help here... I did successfully root my note 3, however whenever I install a custom rom such as knoxraid or azure, my wi-fi will not work at all.
The wi-fi will be on from a clean flash, but once I try to connect to any network (I've only tried those with passwords), the wi-fi grays out and I can no longer turn it on or off. I haven't encountered anyone else with the same problem, and I have tried deleting the rom partitions and recreating them.
Disclaimer: I don't have enough posts to post in the dev forums, so that's why I'm posting here. Sorry about that.
Dearest Becky, im so sorry girl..
butchya may be fuct for a lil while let me tell ya why..
This same thing happened to me!!
I looked everywhere for an easy solution BUT THERE IS NONE !! Yet.
The reason why is because there are no easy "Odin back to stock files" yet is because at&t is a fn a-hole and locked the bootloader !!
I brikt my shıt about 4 days after I brought it home from costco.
I combed through the interwebs for the 48 hrs straight like a mad tweaker!! because of course this is our 800 dollar babies we're talking about !!
I kept getting the same error message as you are mentioning about the kies update connect your pc blah and so I tool it back to costco and played dumb and said that I got a notification to update and clicked ok and it did some stuff and "now its stuck on this screen with some error??" .. the lady at the kiosk looked it up and down and said someone else had come in last week with the same error message . LoL !!
I walked out of there with a brand new baby !!
Maybe you can do the same thing? Just hoping you are within your return timeframe.
your last but definitely not last worst case scenerio option is to stick your sim card in another phone and wait till someone from our awesome family here finds away around/through that damn bootloader and drops the beautiful Odin+files to give new birth to your 5.7 beast of an angel !!
Hope this helped in any sort of way. Good luck dear Sister!!
Please let us know how it goes. I think there are many brothers and sisters desperate as F and in ypur same predicament.
This is your best bet.

For anyone Reading this thread for similar issues
What probably happened is she attempted to root de LA Vega method while she was on firmware mj5 rdlv method is based on mi9 and die to this it will soft brick your device.
Unfortunately att diff not release an Odin file for mj5 or even put it on kies.
One of or members figured out how to fiddle with the files we have access to to flash a hybrid of mi9 and mj5
Making it possible to more or less recover from an mj5 brick.
Follow his steps completely and you will wind up with a stock rooted os.
But since this is such an odd way to recover I chose to use kingo to root.
Xda doesn't support kingo dir to hour closed they are in their methods and the fact it is not apparent how they are funding themselves. so you'll have to Google it. It was one of the easiest root methods I've done on a device it installs chainfires su. It is completely removable and I personally believe it is the lest chance of a brick method.

[Q] AT&T Note 3 failing to flash, update and remove root.

Bought my Note, it did a update not to long after. Rooted couple weeks later, phone started to freeze few times a week. Tried to remove root, failed to do so. Did a complete phone wipe, phone still rooted, tried to unroot again, no avail. Now the phone tells me to update over wifi, it starts the also fails. Tried to flash with KitKat os using Odin 3.09. It also failed.
I've tried a few different ways of doing these procedures but nothing is working. I just want to start my phone over from scratch so it will hopefully stop freezing and restarting.
Use the restore to MJ5 thread in the general section. Then update.

MJ5 is the last 3 characters in the software version. Under settings-general-about device you have a build number. The latest build is N900AUCUBNB4. Otherwise known as NB4. The previous build was N900AUCUBMJ5. So you can see it's easier calling it MJ5.
That makes sense, do you know if it will make a difference, my phone is MJ5..
