Hi all.
My wife hqs a I9003. She was running rooted stock 2.2.1 KB1FW on it. Everything was fine untill about 4 days ago. Thay's when without reason the whole Android system started to fail. Clock, Maps, Messaging, TW Launcher, etc all gave error and forced closed. She only had about 10 or 15 apps installed and all on phone memory. So I did a Factory Restore thinkg it would help but it was all still the same.
So I flashed KPE (all 4 files) and a new error started: after 1 or 2 after the factory restore on new FW, phone crashes and goes in to a boot loop (Samsung logo and intro screen). Once I manage to get back to Android, it's reset to factory settings (install wizzard). I've flashed KPH, KB1, KB3 etc and it's the same problem all the time. Was flashing the APBOOT file from KPE a mistake?? How can I fix this?? I don't have a backup and even if I did, I can enter download mode but not restore mode (Vol Up + Home + Power).
Please, I need help urgently
Thanks

Before this all started did she install some unknown kinda software/app from the market?
Also while flashing did you use Latona.pit file?
Sent from my GT-I9003 using Tapatalk
Nope. Thay's the weird thing. On mine, I'm constantly installing/deleting from the market, blackmarket and other sources and have no problems. All the apps she had, I installed myself and were all "safe".
As far as the pit file, I used it first joint with the other 4 files (like I did for my I9000) and after I used it on it's own. I've tried first the pit file, then the FW files, just the FW files and the pit + FW files with and without re-partition checked... I'm running out of ideas and getting desperate...

Sounds to me like the phone has developed a hardware fault.
Things do just up and die sometimes..
Could it be the battery??? She hasn't dropped or banged it at all. Mine had a slight swim.and is still perfect. If I flash it back to a European KB1, would the warranty still cover me??

Try to do the following:
Select only latona (.pit) and repartition in odin. Put the phone in download mode and flash.
Next reset all. Select pda, modem, csc file from XXKB3 firmware. Dont choose repartition and flash.
hope it works

Tell me teh method what you followed to flash? Like first, the pit file with re-partion,auto-reboot and F.reset time checked. And, then, the other 4 file of the SAME Fw with the auto-reset unchecked. Also, Did you click on the reset button after flashing the pit file?

Had done that before but just did it again. So far it has crashed once but didn't revert back to factory default this time and I now have the recovery mode again.

I've done it various ways as I explained in the first post. With and without re-partition, with and without the pit file, etc.
But I had a minor brainwave this morning after the first crash on XXKB3. The microSD she had in her phone was an 8GB she got with her old Xperia. It was used under Symbian and when I put it in her Galaxy, I think I had formatted it with the PC but not with the phone. Can't remember (she has it since May). In any case, she didn't have apps stored on the SD but she did have all wallpapers, photos, music, ringtones, etc. I've now removed the SD and see how it goes. Just thinking that maybe the SD is f****d and could be creating a shortcut or inestability with the phone... Worth a try as I'm all out of ideas.
Thatnks to everyone for the help you're providing me with this issue. I suppose it's weird that after flashing many different ROMs the problem persists and is still the same. If all else fails and I re-flash the XXKB1, do yo guys think Samsung will take responasability for the problem?? I have it unlocked with the app thats on the market, but AFAIK I have the EFS folder backup stored somewhere.
Well phone still switching off with the XXKB3 FW. It's only switching off now tho... No boot loop. And at least now I know it's not the SD at fault. I'll try re-flashing XXKB3 tomorrow as I only flashed it once today. Then I'll do a factory format and reset battery stats once I flash the CWM. If after that it's still the same, I gues I'll have to restore the EFS folder, flash the XXKB1 FW and send it off to Samsung and hope for the best... Unless anyone has any other idea I can try???

No. Anything that is done using Odin voids your warranty so when visiting service centre just flash to the firmware that your phone came out of the box then tell the service centre staff the phone just went crazy or anything like that just dont talk about Odin to them. And try this out.
1. Download an app called Rom manager from the market.
2. Make sure you are rooted.
3. Go into rom manager and hit fix permissions.
4. Reboot.
That should do it. Or else its the service centre.

That is complex! In, India, You just go into the service center and tell him your problem! He will check the FW version and tell that you void warranty. Just SHOUT at him and tell him you are a developer ..VOILA! He will service it! He will take a hell lot of time for a small problem though!
And if I'm willing to pay for the repair?? Or maybe load a europe CSC file on it... Had a bit of a bright idea today: switch batteries. She's using my I9000's battery at the moment. Let's see if it doesn't turn off. My I9000 fell yesterday, had a rubber cover on it so the bang wasn't bad BUT my loud speaker has blown out seems easy enough to replace and I do laptop repairs so shouldn't be too much hastle to sort it myself. But so much for the Galaxy S being the iPhone 4 killer... Sem to be quite delicate phones...
Bit of off topic: anyone know anything about the Galaxy S 3??? If and when it's coming out and some type of details.. Galaxy S 2 was a big failure with more problems than the one I have according to what I've read on the internet...

1) Galaxy S3 will be launched once Nexus Prime is out (also being made out by Samsung)
2) Nexus Prime will be released some time in October so S3 will probably be released late October or sometime in November (more or less - to compete with iPhone5)
3) Galaxy S2 is one of the hottest selling item in the WORLD right now - i guess you have read some biased reports about its performance issues.
Just thought I'd give you all a quick update on what's happened with my wife's I9003.
After trying everything possible to fix it via flashing, the whole internal memory collapsed. It wasn't even able to finish installing the last firmware I flashed on it.
I took it to the shop, told them what happened and the sent it off to the technical repair service. That was on the 5th of this month.
Got it back today fully working!!!
They changed the main board as a faulty part, so even though it was unlocked with no EFS backup and was flashed numerous times, the guarantee took care of the repair
Tomorrow I'll root it and install ROM Manager and do a backup of the firmware before I flash it to Gingerbread, as they've returned it with Froyo and carrier boot screen. And this time I'll keep a backup of the EFS folder too LOL
I wonder is there anyway to force a main board to break via software, would be interesting for those that have voided their warranty by unlocking or flashing, if the board is broke, any changes become untraceable.
While I'm here, just a quick question: When I do the backup via ROM Manager, will it backup only the PHONE part of the firmware or will the MODEM & CSC be included too?? If it's only the PHONE file, how can I backup the others???
Thanks to all of you that responded to my original post and tried to help me with the phone.

I made another thread asking about a problem I was having with Odin not recognizing my captivate, but with no solution there I have decided to try and install froyo a different way. It looks like the froyo guide that nbs11 wrote will work for me a lot easier than odin. I am just about to attempt it, but I have a major concern:
With odin not being able to recognize my phone at all when it is in download mode, what would happen if my phone were to become bricked? Is odin the only way to fix it then? I would not want to brick it and then have a program that will never recognize it...
,thanks
I would recommend not flashing froyo until you work out the odin problem. You will be fine the first time you flash most likely but will essentially be stuck with that one rom. Most roms will throw crazy errors and fcs if you don't go back to stock before flashing.
Also if you happen to brick your phone you will be stuck without odin. It might be tempting to flash a rom but there will be no way to go back to stock.

I was afraid of this... Do you know of any other way to flash back to stock without odin? I spent 6 hours trying to get it to work yesterday with no luck...
Oh wait! I would be using clockwork and RomManager in order to flash the phone to Froyo.... Does that mean when I am on Froyo I could use the same procedure to flash back to an older firmware all without the use of Odin?
That's^ exactly what I did, I used Rom Manager (clockwork, they're one and the same) to flash the recovery, backed up the stock Eclair and flashed Axura Froyo.
I also used Titanium to back up all my apps and restore them after switching to Axura. No Odin at all.
Had this phone short of a month. I'm trying to figure out how to flash Odin now.

So you can confirm that it would be completely possible to flash back to Eclair with just clockwork? If so, it might be worth doing. Well, as long as I don't get bricked... That, im sure, would require odin
totally not worth the risk. figure out ODIN first, or we will be seeing a post in a few weeks from you screaming about bricking your phone.....

Thats the thing though... I see no way to get odin to work with my phone. I have tried every thing that I know of.
*sigh* guess Ill have to wait for the official froyo update then...
I prettu much figured out how to recover using Odin, but before my question is now that I've rooted and applied a custom firmware, will using Odin now wipe all of my user data, root and rom?
Thanks.
I think i get it now, Odin IS a way to recover the stock firmware, it's not like clockwork where you backup your original and custom firmware and switch between them.
The fact that I was able to flash a custom firmware without bricking my phone sort of negates the need for me to use Odin.
I took that risk and it worked fine. Now for the OP, it's better to find out that you do have that option of reverting back to stock in case you brick in the middle of flashing. Therein comes the problem that Odin doesn't recognize your phone, hence the hesitation to flash.
I guess it's really up to you if you want to do it anyway without Odin...
I see no reason to risk it... I spent too much money on this thing to brick it without a way to fix it

Don't you have warranty on it? well everything that goes flashing is always a risk if your going back to stock im prefer using the "odin stock with 3 button combo", it flashes the sbl.bin first which is the 3 button combo in cases it hangs up somewhere you can always unplug the usb then go to download mode again. In cases there is also a "homemade test jig" that can help you go to download mode. The benifits you get from flashing is a lot you can use your phone full potential. Correct me if im wrong as long as you can start your phone with a display you can always fix it. I would suggest to read all those with quote and theres also "ADB" which can help in some cases. just keep in mind before flashing make sure that the 3 button combo is intact first.
Nope, I have no warranty on this... I have t-mobile but didn't want the vibrant because I would need to pay the extra money for a data plan on it. With the captivate, I bypassed the requirement for the plan when I unlocked it.

Ok time to re appear in this thread again. I have had a decent amount of flashing experience and want to make sure the right info us being shared.
Once again you can flash to any rom you want a couple of times.however after a few you are not found to be able to do it because what is going on in the phone of more complicated then you see on the phone. Most roms change the kernels and hardware software interaction. This can cause conflict resulting in fcs and excessive battery drain.
With all that being said I would still advise you to jump the bucket as king a you get odin to work. As long as you can figure that out you are golden. Once you have the hand of it you can flash to stock and to a rom in your sleep. I have managed to do it while on the highway.

A) You didn't install the driver (or the wrong driver)
B) You don't know what Download Mode is
C) Your phone is broken
D) You need to use a different USB port
Those are the ones that come to mind.
Alternatively, you could give Heimdall a try.

I bricked my phone with an i9000 firmware. Since I was unlucky enough to have a phone without the 3 button combo, I was screwed.
Now, IF I decide to flash my new phone again, i'll make sure to put together the homemade jig which can put the phone into download mode without the phone needing to be able to do it itself.

Moved to Q&A.
Hey guys I need to send my phone back for warranty replacement and I am afraid to use Odin one click, because I know it bricked a friends phone recently beyond even JIG repair. His was an 11.02 or something and mine is a 10.07.
All I have flashed is DG's Cognition if that helps.
What should I do to go back to factory stock, will oneclick kill mine like his?
I cant afford to brick this one so I just need some confirmation, thanks guys.
Odin back to stock is the preferred method. While there is risk of brick, it generally doesn't happen that often. I have used it countless times.
But Odin will bring you back to stock and wipe any evidence from having a custom ROM.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=SBSMALFJ
*Also, you could always say you were trying to update via kies and it stopped working (if anything went wrong) They won't ever know and it'll just get flashed stock firmware once they get ahold of it anyway.
I believe you can flash back to stock using OdinOneClick. But just to be sure you can flash this package instead
--> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=995143
That package flashes everything but the two bootloaders and param.lfs. Meaning if anything goes wrong you still can use the combos or a jig to get back into download mode .
Just to double check you use:
Vol up, Vol down & power key to get into recovery mode?
&
Vol up, Vol down & usb cable to get into download mode?
It doesn't matter at all if you brick it. You're sending it in for a warranty replacement already. If odin one click bricks it tell them some bs about kies doing it.

Is it really necessary to post a useless post, with no information?
You really think I didn't search these insanely complicated and deep forums?
A friend of mine just ended up with a hard brick after using odinoneclick.
Something about a later build phone. But nobody seems to know much about this issue.
So needless to say I would like to be a bit cautious now.

About as necessary as you starting a new thread for a common issue instead of posting to an existing related thread. And the problem with later build phones (1008 and up) is also well documented in here. Be cautious all you want, but respect the forum by not starting redundant threads.

Long story short I went to nandroid restore and **** got worse. The tablet was repartitioned before creating nandroid and I thought it would restore okay.. NO.
I used factory reset package and tried to get it back to factory, no dice. NO matter what i try IT BOOTS, BUT old apps are there. I can manually uninstall them, restart the tablet and they are back and Force Closing like crazy. I tried a factory reset from the device and same. I don't know what to do I need some sort of superwipe.
I have tried about everything I can think of. Anyone else have any ideas here? A superwipe zip etc?

Waiting for more details or info
I'm reaching a bit, but one problem you *could* be having is that since you've added new roms you've updated your filesystems from RFS to EXT4. I'd have to look at the ROM package you are using to determine how it's moving data onto your filesystems, but if it's true stock then it may not know anything about EXT4 and be trying to mount the filesystems as RFS (which would fail if you've converted to EXT4).
I've found in playing around with flashing a lot of different kernels and builds to my phone that a flashing "everything" using Heimdall is the most thorough approach. What you want is a build that will replace the cache, data, system, root and kernel "/dev/block" devices, as well as the primary and secondary bootloaders. This link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1275031
Has the stock rom (it's a TAR file, like you would use with ODIN, but un-tar it and you can use with Heimdall) for a Sprint Tab. I don't know if that's what you have, but I'm sure you can find an appropriate stock for your tab. If all you get is a big TAR file, what you want to do is un-tar it and the contents should be something like:
zImage
recovery.bin
factoryfs.rfs
params.lfs
cache.lfs
dbdata.rfs
boot.bin
Sbl.bin
...and there will probably be a modem.bin. I would avoid flashing that if you can. I've just had some very bad experiences flashing the wrong modem.bin by mistake (had to take the tab apart, solder a JTAG to it, and use the JTAG ressurect to bring the tab back to life).
While all this "should" work that same with ODIN, my experiences have been more reliable after reflashing with Heimdall. By reflashing something like "factoryfs.rfs" you will not only be flashing the files, but also in effect be reformating the filesystem for the "factory" system files you need.
Keep in mind doing this kind of reflash will return your filesystems to a "pristine" RFS state... but it should get you back to a place where you can then restore your nandroid backup with Heimdall.
I have been having the same problem with my cdma tab, no matter what rom I install or the method (heimdall,Odin,or cwm) I have apps that will not delete and non stop force closes. These apps will come back after data wipes, and from rom to rom they are automatically reinstalled.
Miui is the only gingerbread rom that I had limited success with, but with miui I get non-stop keyboard fc's. And the unwanted apps still come back.
I have tried everything suggested in this thread, and the only thing that has semi worked was flashing an ice cream rom to the tab. But of the two ics roms I found, one has no wifi, and the other says encryption unsuccessful on boot.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, my tablet is currently at Samsung repair awaiting repair parts. Meaning that as you mention here, if you have this problem it appears to be a hardware issue. Mine was around 1 month old so still in warranty. Sucks to have to live without it though.

Follow up, they changed the PCB. All was well initially, however, after a couple weeks the tablet began having the same issue all over again

Guessing you're on a phillz kernel now? Simply download stock gb or ics from samfirmware.com, perform full 3 wipes in cwm recovery while still on jb, then flash stock rom with pc odin, done, make sure it boots ok, if needed perform wipes again (unless on unsafe ics kernel).
P. S... Regarding the phone saying it's charging when not, this usually points to dirty points on the usb connector, cleaning with alcohol and cotton bud usually fixes it, might save you a service center visit and 4 week wait.

Yes, make sure you disable ever root option or it will retain root. Also check binary counter after flash just to make sure it's zero.

seriously, when will people start searching... I give up
Hi everyone, as you can see I am a n00b and am in need of help.
Basically I upgraded my n7000 after running a German version of ICS (4.0.4 I believe) to the latest UK Jellybean. All worked well except that JB is pretty slow and totally drained my battery. After becoming frustrated I decided to try to flash my phone back to ICS and found a uk/Ireland version (4.0.3). I popped the phone into download mode and ran Odin successfully. Jobs a good one.....until I tried to restart my phone. It appeared to boot up as I could hea the Samsung splash tune, however the LCD didn't light up, nor any of the touch buttons. In a panic I tried to revert the phone back to JB which appeared to work except I still have the LCD/ touch button problem.
So, can anyone help at all? I can put it into download mode and connect it to Odin however KIES doesn't appear to see the phone when it's on and plugged in. Should I send it for a JTAG repair, or can this be fixed via the PC?
Thanks in advance!

Thats an odd one really, but I would try flashing stock GB with pc odin, there are many fewer flash problems with gb and it's a good place to start.
Forget connection to kies, so long as you can connect to odin.

Thanks for the prompt reply SpyderTracks, I will give that a whirl. Any reccomendation of where to get a decent stock GB as I tried from Sanmobile and they only seem to have later ICS and JB. I did try to download a copy from an old thread on here but I couldn't unzip the file with win zip or winrar both said "unknown compression type" when I tried to extract even though I could see the tar file inside. :S

Try the unzip with 7zip, winzip won't handle it and winrar is a bit old school.

Mine did that when I put the DBT release 4.1.2 on my phone, then put a custom kernel. Reflashed it several times with
no luck, then, tried a kernel from a different developer and it worked just fine. Downloaded the original kernel I was using
(speedmod) and flashed it again, and sound but no lights. Put Philz kernel back on it and it worked. Not sure what the
deal was, but with my device, the DBT LT5 rom and speedmod, I couldn't get any video.
Thanks SpyderTracks all working now, battery is a bit iffy but I think that is hardware more than anything else, I've changed the charge port and it's the same. Both batteries are fine in my girlfriends phone though. Hey, at least it is alive!
P51D - yeah I got totally worried, it's really odd, plus I couldn't really find anyone else who had this problem when I was searching. Thought I may have had to go for the JTAG route.
In my 40 + years of fixing electronic circuits, I've always found that troubleshooting ALIVE, although not working properly, is a hell of
a lot easier, than troubleshooting DEAD
