Downgrade from kitkat, Verizon user, can I?? - Moto X Q&A

Please don't flame me, I am on my phone and can't do a search.
I took the kitkat OTA and want to downgrade back down to the camera update ota and hopefully use jcase's root method to keep root with kitkat.
Any links would be appreciated. Wasn't sure if I could just rsd back or not.

Thanks, I was pretty sure that i could rsd back. But I did read on a bunch of sites that motorola said that if you took the ota for kitkat you would not be able to downgrade. That's why I wanted to check.

Yes you can RSD back to camera update. I have done it with my Verizon moto x. I use foxfi and needed my tethering without root.

Latest rogers firmware?

Anybody know where I can get the latest rogers firmware with camera ota? I would like to unroot so that I'm prepared for the 4.4 update but can't find the rogers ota file to flash.

I assume jcase the creator did and it didn't work. He found another root exploit but isn't going to release it.
I wanna try. Will it mess my phone up?

no, that vulnerability has been patched, so if something you'll test your phone againsts that vulnerability and you'll fail (so you won't mess anything up)
Really sucks he wont help us out with 4.4. Being a family guy with a career...I understand. But damn...would love root on this thing

I hope I'm not jumping the gun here, I did a while back and jcasr corrected me. But, if you read the bounty thread in the general section, he's 99.5% sure that he has figured out how to root 4.4 (may only be att though) without burning up an additional exploit... He is working on it and said he will release it when he gets a copy of the att ota.

Root ATT Phone

Hello guys,
I have an Moto X from ATT and i cant unlock the Bootloader for a root.
I have read many threads and i am a little bit confused which one i have to choose.
Is the thread from "Jcas" SlapyMoto at the moment the only way to root.
Thanks for your help or do you have other ways to root?

Nope not correct. If your on 4.2.2 post camera update you use slapmymoto + the disable write protection after you finish the disable write protection you follow the rockmymoto thread and take the 4.4 ota. We haven't gotten 4.4.2 on at&t yet so your good.

Unless you mean after you have completed Slapmymoto and are rooted, about not accepting any OTA's, I believe that is correct, to not take any OTA after

4.4.2 root method?

Youmobile shared this article in G+ today stating this root method works for 4.4.2 users. I thought one didn't exist yet?

Discussed here -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/moto-x-qa/-t2710834
Step 11 tells you to downgrade the Bootloader (MOTOBOOT.IMG) and GPT.BIN which is part of the security stuff. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't those the main components involved with bricking when trying to downgrade from 4.4.2 to 4.4 and lower?
And you'd still have Write Protection Enabled if you have a locked bootloader (so changes will be lost when you power off/on)
EDIT: And step 15 of that web page points you to the SlapMyMoto thread here on XDA... and we know that SlapMyMoto doesn't work on 4.4.2.

There is an aio utility in the original dev section.
Also could ss be installed with this limited yet to be published, root? Or this impactor? On 442 that is.

the AIO untilities and root processes for 4.4 don't work on 4.4.2.

Yes, rooted 4.4, and use safestrap for 4.4.2 is about the only option if you can't unlock your bootloader.

I meant: to go from 442 to the limited yet to be revealed root & install ss w/o write access.
In case anyone is wondering, I still tried it, and it doesn't work. Telnet doesn't work on 4.4.2.

XT1053 Dev 4.4.4 flash to stock

I'm planning on flashing my X back to stock, but have a question. I have a XT1053 Dev Edition running 4.4.4. Is it safe to use the 4.4.3 SBF for this?
I know in some cases downgrading causes a brick but since the OTA from 4.4.3 to 4.4.4 was only 16 MB, I'm assuming not much changed and it should be fine. But better to ask those who likely know better than I.
Thanks

Did you make a nandroid of your 4.4.3 phone?
On my XT1060, I am able to go back to 4.4.2 nandroid after taking the 4.4.4 OTA and then unroot by hand. And another poster on an XT1058 was able to go back to a stock 4.4.3 nandroid after upgrading to 4.4.4.

Then the safest thing to do is to wait for the TMobile 4.4.4 sbf to show up.
No, you can't flash 4.4.3 if you've been on 4.4.4. Not without great risk. ?
Could he download the 443 sbf and flash ONLY the system IMG via mfastboot that should be safe right
I wouldn't. That's all I can say on the topic. I don't get involved in downgrade scenarios....seen way too many poor folk brick trying. :good:
why is Moto being so slow with releasing the image?
They don't release it....it's leaked..
So its anybody's guess how long. Usually doesn't take too long. ?
Thanks guys. I've managed to rig a workaround to the issue I'm experiencing. So I can wait.
