Root ATT Phone - Moto X Q&A

Hello guys,
I have an Moto X from ATT and i cant unlock the Bootloader for a root.
I have read many threads and i am a little bit confused which one i have to choose.
Is the thread from "Jcas" SlapyMoto at the moment the only way to root.
Thanks for your help or do you have other ways to root?

Nope not correct. If your on 4.2.2 post camera update you use slapmymoto + the disable write protection after you finish the disable write protection you follow the rockmymoto thread and take the 4.4 ota. We haven't gotten 4.4.2 on at&t yet so your good.

Unless you mean after you have completed Slapmymoto and are rooted, about not accepting any OTA's, I believe that is correct, to not take any OTA after

Latest rogers firmware?

Anybody know where I can get the latest rogers firmware with camera ota? I would like to unroot so that I'm prepared for the 4.4 update but can't find the rogers ota file to flash.

Here's the fxz files to flash with rsdlite http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2411618
I'm not moving to kitkat through the ota, I'll wait for a flashable zip. Not willing to lose all my data nor do I wish to rsdlite for the third time, 3 strikes I'm out

Downgrade from kitkat, Verizon user, can I??

Please don't flame me, I am on my phone and can't do a search.
I took the kitkat OTA and want to downgrade back down to the camera update ota and hopefully use jcase's root method to keep root with kitkat.
Any links would be appreciated. Wasn't sure if I could just rsd back or not.

Yes you can RSD back, If you couldn't slap my moto wouldn't be possible. Instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2538896

Thanks, I was pretty sure that i could rsd back. But I did read on a bunch of sites that motorola said that if you took the ota for kitkat you would not be able to downgrade. That's why I wanted to check.
Yes you can RSD back to camera update. I have done it with my Verizon moto x. I use foxfi and needed my tethering without root.

1 click root

Any chances there will be a 1 click root for the Moto X? The current method is doable but can be difficult to understand for newcomers.
Probably not, as it is dependent on downgrading and then updating...

It might seem daunting, and I am sure you have heard everyone say this before, but look at it as a mini adventure, full of head banging, face palming, hair pulling and finally... a rooted 4.4
Go for it :highfive:

From what I have read, the downgrading is used to downgrade the bootloader. When you are done, you have a phone with a downgraded bootloader but is running 4.4. Is that right?

Where's the development?

I was thinking about getting a Moto X due to having an mf3 locked down bootloader. However, it looks like the development is completely dead for this device. Is the bootloader completely locked down for the AT&T version? Just wondering why these forums are so dead. What about rooting with 4.4.2? Thanks

They're dead because the stock software is just that good. There is no real need to hack it up because it's fine as it is.
That's what I figured.. Is there any problems with rooting 4.2.2?

Use RockMyMoto for 4.2.2. Use SlapMyMoto if going to 4.4.
So with the new 4.4.2 slap my Moto works perfectly rooting the phone?

Yes, but he's asking about root. If he's flashing 4.4.2 ROMs, he's already rooted and it's a moot point.

Getting read /write back after 4.4.2

Does anyone know ?
I've still got root, but I can't reinstall xposed because write protect is on.....
