Hi,
I was hoping someone could please help?
I bought my Mum a Kindle Fire HD 7" (2012 model) and wanted to root it for her. I also have a 2012 Kindle Fire HD (2012 again) and have rooted, TWRP it and installed CM10.2 on it and everything is fine.
Now on my Mum's, after reverting to 7.2.3 from 7.4.6 in order to root, it is stuck in portrait mode. The screen is not locked in this mode and a clean boot (holding power button down for 20 seconds or so and powering up again) doesn't fix it.
There also seems to be a bright spot in the upper left hand side of the screen, which is more visible when the brightness is up.
The other thing is this model was one with the 'Special Offers' installed. I backed the dtcp_apk file, but have lost it trying to resolve the issues.
So, I was hoping somebody out there, by some chance, had a copy of this file so if I need to return the Kindle Fire, I can restore it to default.
I have no idea what could have happened to cause the landscape issue as I have flashed mine with various ROMs without issue.
Thank you for any help.
Phill
Edit: Have flashed 7.4.3 from Amazon, and the screen rotation is behaving ok now. Weird!
Still bothered about the bright spot on the screen and still require the dtcp_apk should I need to return it to Amazon.
Thanks!
The dtcp apk should be there if you reflashed the os, its one of the files flashed to the system partition in an update or reflash.

Thanks for the reply.
I was just about to update the post, as, indeed the dtcp_apk is back after the installation of 7.4.6. I had thought that it would be re-applied when the update was completed. Just glad to see that it was.
Still can't figure out why landscape stopped working using 7.2.3 though. Checked using the fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product command on both the Kindles and they are both the same Tate model.
Thanks again for your reply!

I have a rooted kindle fire hd 7" that has TWRP 2.4.40 and Kinology 2.01 on it. Recently, I decided to re-install, doing this.
First:
Plugged in usb power cable (needed to charge)
Second:
Went into recovery mode via holding down the power button inside Kinology
Third:
Did a factory reset, wiped both cache and dalvic cahce
Fourth:
Flashed roms in this order;
Amazon OS 7.31 part 1
Amazon OS 7.31 part 2
Amazon OS 7.31 part 3
Kinology 2.01
Google Apps
Fith:
Cleared cache and dalvic cache again
Sixth:
hit "Reboot System"
Seventh:
Now I'm stuck at blue Kindle Fire logo, after the orange one first shows up. What should I do? I do not have a recovery cable, and the device is not detected. ADB drivers are fully installed.
Edit : Fixed
Had to boot into recovery by holding down volume up (the side closest to the mic jack) while booting!

You didn't flash part 0 of Kinology. Also, you didn't make a backup of Kinology before you did this in case of disaster, did you?
I made a backup
Don't start assuming things because I'm new! I've jailbroken two devices before the fire hd, and yes, I made a backup. My problem is getting to the recovery.
Edit:
If you are not currently running Kinology or Stock OS with TWRP 2.4.4.0, download Kinology-step0a-boot-7.3.0-twrp-2.4.4.0.zip. This will flash four items: stock 7.3.0 xloader, stock 7.2.3 bootloader, Freedom boot/kernel 7.3.0, and TWRP recovery 2.4.4.0.

I didn't assume anything. You've jailbroken, as in Apple devices? The KFHD is an Android device, if you didn't know. It doesn't matter if your ADB drivers are fully installed, ADB requires both devices to fully boot and then it starts communicating. My thread in my signature, #7.
Fixed!

I've jailbroken two different consoles, and rooted + CWM'd an android galaxy s2. But that's off topic! What is really awesome, and that nobody has been able to point out, is that you can restore perfectly fine as long as your first bootloader isn't broken, as I just found out. You just have to hold down volume up while booting, and it goes right into recovery! Happy to have device back! Flashed CM10.1 Tablet, works perfectly after multiple reboots. By the way, while you're here, as a senior member, where should I find more ROMs? I'm starting a list of kindle fire hd roms on reddit and looking for recomendations!

Consoles? I think we call those "devices" but whatever floats your boat. Take a look at the thread in my signature, Step 4.
Hello!! I am new to XDA!! I had rooted my Fire HD 7 and even installed a custom rom by following XDA methods and I was very happy and successful!!! I am not a full noob or beginner considering android. I know some stuff!! But I need help!!! Before I installed a Rom, I had backed up the stock Fire OS...... but the mistake I did was, I did not back up the Memory, Data and I backed up only the System folder!!! ( I came to know my mistake after I bricked my Fire). After using the Rom for quiet some time...... I decided to get back to the stock OS. So I did a factory reset and restored the back up (only the system folder). I got an error in restoring the back up. I tried many times again but I still got the error!!
Then I decided to reboot and see what happens........ I would get a normal blue kindle fire logo. Then........ I got a kindle fire blinking logo but not the orange one but a blue kindle fire blinking logo(It boots up forever, and does not boot up) !!! I was shocked!!! I don't think that's ever happened before with anyone!! I did not panic and I went to TWRP and mounted the SD card thinking that I will put a stock OS zip file and flash it, but even after mounting...... My PC did not recognize the Fire!! And then I messed up with my drivers ( I don't know what I did) and now not even the TWRP is showing up!!
Here is the condition of my Fire HD now :-
1) Get the kindle fire blue logo (custom bootloader) but TWRP is not showing up.
2) Then I get another Blue kindle fire logo, but the blinking one...... which should be orange.
3) That blinking blue logo goes on and on and my Fire never boots up!!
Pls Help!! I would appreciate a faster help!!! How do I fix this??
Thank You.
Well I was going to suggest making a backup of only the data partition from twrp then wiping system, cache, dalvik cache and factory reset then reflashing your os, but if you can't get into twrp I'd go with a fast boot cable and the system IMG restore utility in the android development section, assuming you don't have backups of all you partitions on your PC already.

Which software should I use?? KF First Aide or KFHD_SRT??
And one more question..... can't I get into fastboot mode without the factory cable??
Not without adb access though I haven't personally had to use fast boot before, but I thought I heard something around the lines of the 2nd boot loader having fast boot or something but I don't know if I'm imagining things or not. If you had full root access with adb you could reboot into fast boot, but since you have no os or a corrupt one you will probably need a fast boot cable I think. I am about to goto bed and don't want to have to get up and go search for my USB cable to have to kick my kindle in and out of fast boot. Oh and in this case I'd say use kfhd_srt

But it should be in fastboot mode right?? I managed to get into fastboot before the KFHD SRT. Now..... when I have boot loops.... PC is not recognizing my Fire HD!!! How do I get into fastboot?? (Without Factory cable)
You need a factory cable if its stuck in boot loops. Would love to know how the utility did this, it should have restored a fresh copy of all the stock partitions.

desperately in need of help, rooted my kfhd 7 and got everything working perfectly, but installed "hide app-hide" and accidentally hid the wrong apps and now my kindle boots up fine, lock screen ok, but once i unlock the lock screen all i got is a black screen with just the home, search, favorites icons at bottom showing, and cant get anything else up or showing, and the only button the works if the star (favorites)
is there anyway to rectify this and get the hide app-hide of my kindle via pc ???

Is this your app?
If you have ADB enabled on your Kindle, then yes, there may be a way. Open a command prompt/terminal/whatever, start the ADB server, and enter this command:
Code:
adb uninstall com.thinkyeah.apphider
Then reboot the Kindle and (hopefully) everything will be normal.
Okay, this actually doesn't work. I tried this using my emulator after hiding a couple of apps. So don't try this! But just out of curiosity, what exactly did you do?
i installed the "hide app-hide" i gave root permission with supersu and pretty much hid everything, thinking i was just hiding the app icon and not the app,
so all loaders, and all the kindle stuff
so now it boots up ok, kindle lock screen is fine, but when i unlock the unit i just get a black screen with the home, back, search and favorites button on the bottom...... :/
after approx 10 mins it reboots itself
P.S
if there is a way out of this, i will need complete noob instructions............... as, as you may have already guessed im completely new to this :/
I think easiest method is to just reflash the system partition, as long as the app doesn't run at startup to enforce the apps remain hidden, I don't think you will need to uninstall it first. Look for kindle fire first aid in the general section. It should be able to put your device into fastboot mode for you and reflash the system image.

Now that you've got that sorted, I would go here to enable recovery, so that in the future you can create and backup restore points.
ok it looks like it has now bricked, after getting the kdhd 7 re flashed and working as a normal kindle, i used the KFFirst Aide tool to root and install google play/market, everything fine, turned kindle off went and ate, came back and turned it on, now won't boot :/
it goes into the "kindle fire system recovery" but will not reset to defaults it starts to but then reebots and same thing happens
So here is the scoop. Rooted, installed TWRP, flashed CM 10.2, flashed GAPPS. Setup CM 10.2 the way I like it. Installed Kindle Reader and it crashes almost immediately. So after searching for hours to find a solution I finally said uncle and decided to restore my stock backups I made before flashing CM. But guess what? Can't get into fastboot mode because when I use the command "adb shell su -c reboot bootloader" which is how I did it to flash TWRP, I get the message "error:device unauthorized. Please check the confirmation dialog on your device." I can boot into the bootloader from TWRP but it doesn't see any commands I send from my PC.
So I essentially have a Kindle Fire HD with CM 10.2 installed and it is pretty much worthless to me since it is used 90% of the time as an ereader. Can't get back to stock for the reasons stated.
If ANYBODY can help with this fiasco, please, please respond.
UPDATE Forget it! Restored my TWRP backup that I made b4 flashing CM and I essentially have a rooted stock Kindle Fire HD that I can install apps on from Google Play Store WITHOUT trashing the reader app. That's really all I wanted for my wife anyhow. I'll stick to my Asus tablet. Much easier to customize without all of the headaches.

Yea, that, an actual fastboot cord or the factory images was about all you could do. It's becoming more important for people to make a backup of their rooted Kindle before continuing to further mod. A fastboot cord is the best way to go about modding a Kindle though. A few buck and you would be able to do things with less headaches.

Well if your not bricked meaning your kindle is still booting up to cm 10 or whatever your running you can go to the play store and download a app called reboot menu widget. Once you install it click on it and choose the option "reboot to bootloader" and click ok . That will put you into fastboot mode.

The problem with my kindle fire hd is that when I turn it on it first boots up normally but then it goes to a screen that says "Kindle Fire System Recovery. Your Kindle doesn't seem to be able to boot. Reseting your device to Factory defaults may help fix this issue." I have a factory cable and I have the driver set up on my computer. I just don't know what to download and what to do. Also I would like to know if I can recover the data that's on it because that's the reason why I'm trying make it work.
I'm sorry if there's already a thread about this. I'm new and I don't where it would be.

I didn't do anything to it. I just used it normally and it wouldn't start. I never tried to root it or anything before it acted up. Completely stock? What does that mean? How do I use Kindle Fire First Aid? I'm sorry I have no idea what I'm doing. XD I thought I was tech savvy but I feel like a baby trying to learn this.
