Hi everyone
Recently, i've updated my i9000 from cm9 to cm10. But i found it a little bit laggy, there is too much data run in the background and my phone can't just handel it. Some app don't work anymore (i have some message after an unsuccefull update saying "out of memory").
Do i have to wait for further updates or should i go back to the latest CM9 ?
PS: Is there any tips to prevent the shuting down signal problem with the i9000 ?
Hey,
I've had the same feeling about CM10 being laggy on my I9000. Hopefully it's just another bug.
And it is a well known issue that some apps aren't still running yet.
I went back to CM9.1 which runs really smooth. I'm gonna wait for a CM10 stable version and check if it's still laggy.

Yust move apps to SD, CM10 has a new partition layout.. That solve the problem of low space
Try elitemovil rc12.1 which is faster and smooter than stock sgs3

You should try the new nightlies, hardly any lag at all.
All jellybean roms get laggy no matter what you do, I tried most of the JB roms and I used HellyBean for a while with super launcher (a custom supercharge for galaxy s) and it kept working fine because somehow by flashing a new rom version often the phone would stay fine (wasn't just wipe cache and dalvik)
But I'm now back to ICS because even if most of the time the phone is doing fine, when you need it the most it starts failing even overclocked at 1.4 and with performance mode and swap, so I will wait 11 days and buy the nexus 4 !
Jelly bean runs fine on my phone to be honest. No lag or nothing. Only ROM that's ever lagged is hellybean.

On X-Bean 3.0 + Semaphore 2.5.0s here. LiveOc 120, ondemand ui, noop/sio, big mem 404mb, rasd 1024. Running smooth & stable here. No lag, reboots etc whatsoever

My experience is the exact same as the one you quoted.
I believe the clue to having a stable jb is to avoid most of the non-vanilla settings. I.e people come in various jb threads claiming bugs and unstability, while having oced, deep idle, custom kernels with experimental settings, not having wiped, flashed the wrong package - lots of issues that are experimental and not stock and stable.
The question of what is stable is relative, but I'm convinced that the ability to read, knowledge, proper flashing and simple logic would help avoid 9 out of 10 "unstable" jellybean experiences.
I am aware this might come over as a bit condescending, and I guess that's partially true, but it's not directed at any particular person here.

people, CM10 is the best. I've never had such a great rom, I mean, the SGS I is old, but with CM10, oh boy... I've never had such a good battery life, such a smooth rom, and non laggy ( helly bean was a disaster, it lagged a lot and very few updates).
Well, here is my settings:
-> CM10 latest nightly
-> JB hugemem patch (391mb ram and 720p recording still working)
-> Rom Slimmer
-> Semaphore kernel 2.5.0s:
.......- oc 1140 MHz
.......- SIO
.......- Smartassv2
.......- 512kb read ahead
-> SUPERLAUNCHER + SQLITE

i cant believe that so many ppl are busting HB.
laggy disaster?
first of all, HB is a CM10 too.
and beside this HB isnt laggy!
sometimes it depends on the phone, cos a SGS1 is not a SGS1. so many differences available...
best is, just try some JB ROMs and decide for urself!
I never had problems with CM10 . Run smooth .
I think is the best ROM i had experienced on my SGSI .
I installed slimbean (cm10 based) recently on my i9000m and its a tad laggy when I am pushing it but overall its better than the last stock GB rom that I had been on for a long time (got tired flashing this and that). And its stable too. Overall the switch has been nice, for the main reason that I have less of a desire for the SGS 3 (hey there's always the 4 one day right?)
My experience with cm10.1 has been roller coaster. To day it is fast and smooth but yesterday it is leggy and gets stuck. I frequently get popups of applications not responding etc. The i click wait and it gets done.
Before you throw me with rotten tomatoes let me give you the steps that i followed.
Got a brand new i9000 from from a warranty claim a month ago.
Flashed cm10.1 nightly using Cwm after having to work around a few bugs with the new heimdall program not being compatible. But with CWM on I no longer needed the pc.
Download a nightly (26 Feb)
So did a factory reset and wiped everything. Flashed cm10.1 nightly again just to make sure. Then loaded a modem that seems to work for my area. The modem is a XXJVR and is a ICS modem. then flashed Google app for jb 4. 2.2.
Rebooted and logged in. Restored all my sms using sms+ backup and restore
Installed all my preferred application from play Store.
It started nice but soon became slow and large.
So I updated to 10.1m2. Same problem.
At this moment it is workable. It takes about 6 counts to respond to changing from portrait to landscape. If i turn it one the home screen takes about 2 counts to get updated and responsive.
Holding the home button gives you the recent application list. It takes about 2 counts to respond with a vibration and then 2 to 3 more counts before the menu pops up and the list of recent applications have been populate. I don't know if this is normal but 5 counts feels forever when you decide to do something and need to wait for the system to be ready.
I am not over clocking and I am running no custom kernels.
The notification bar at first comes down in jumps. If i do it again it is smooth.
But the biggest frustration is typing. The lag between presses and haptic feedback seems to be random. It is always under a half a second but when you want to type you never know if it got the press or not. Just as you think you need go repress the letter updates.
Battery life is also erratic. Yesterday the phone was uncomfortable hot in my pocket all day. Battery did not make 14h. Today it is cool and it is at 73 % for 9h.
The main battery life is taken by android OS and screen. Not calls or any of the chat apps that I use. Yesterday Android OS took half my battery life.
Going to apps the zoom is jumpy and sliding jumps. If i do it again it is smooth.
And today is a good day.
Any suggestions what I can do to improve the performance? Except getting a new phone.
H
I don't think I can quite relate to that, my phone runs CM10.1 quite well...
Had to be said though that I can feel my phone struggles running it, pushing the limits pretty hard.
My phone has the slow RAM, unfortunately, I'm sure a lot of the people posting stories of glory are ones with the faster version.
That said, I could never in a million years go back to an earlier version, I know my phones limits and work around them without too much trouble, mainly browsing (using Chrome) is the one thing my phone struggles with.
But regarding your erratic phone behavior, have you installed a startup manager and better battery stats?
Android battery stats doesn't always do a very good job of reporting exactly what apps or background processes are draining over time...

It been quite some time now, but have you been able to fix your erratic behaviour? Cause I'm experiencing something similar.
I tried Slim JB & Fishears Rom so far. Right after flashing, without any apps, the roms seem to be running smooth but Slim JB soon became laggy so I tried out Fishears Rom which seemed to behave smoothly even after installing some apps.
But after several month of usage the system slowed down almost as much as it was with Slim JB.
As both of them are based on CM I guess it's a general problem that the SGS 1 just can't handle the new Rom + big amout of apps. Sometimes it runs relatively smooth if I cleared RAM etc and didn't start any apps, but as soon as I for example listen to music in the background everything just becomes laggy :-/
I guess after 3 years my SGS1 is just too old now^^

Hi. No I gave up. My first SGS1 was amazing and did not behave like this. I think it had faster ram. Due to some issue it was replaced under warranty. The replacement looks the same but it is very frustrating. I am running stock rom now 2.3.4 with almost nothing installed. But it find that it is a pain. Calling takes long to actuality start to dial. The screens are smooth but when you do things. Like flip between apps or go to dialler it is almost unusable.
I think Samsung release more expensive variations in the beginning and then keep the look the same but drop the cost of the handset to the end.
Hi.
I'm a noob in this custom business and i have a i9000 and i just flashed CM10.1.2 and everything is ok but i want to use igo and after install i get an error about the sd card. How can i use igo?
Hey everyone, I've been having a few issues with my phone. And as many of the issues I've had with the HTC One, they're not easily solved. So here is my problem, two of my friends both have HTC Ones. Both of the devices are stock AT&T models and show no lag whatsoever. But my phone is in a different boat. It lags often, specifically in the notification drop down menu. If I pull it down and tap the toggle button, the animation is very jittery. But both my friends phones have no jitter at all. What's even weirder is that my phone has this issue on all roms including Google Edition roms, but not CM11. I've tried to fix it, I've updated the firmware, tried different kinds of firmwares, and I noticed that GPe firmware seems to be the least optimized, while 4.19.40.11 firmware and 4.18.502.7 seem to be the most optimized but still not enough. So my question is, how do I figure out where the lag is coming from? I've tried completely stock roms with stock firmware and I've tried optimized roms with kernels like Elemental X, which offer great performance in benchmarks and gaming but still doesn't rid the phone of micro stutters and small lags. What else can I do?
use apps like lagfix ,sefix and tune your cpu using cputuner
Sent From My Karbonn A15
That animation lags for everyone. If you reduce the number of toggles, it won't lag. For why your phone lags in other places, you might have more "stuff" on your phone.
Yeah after a bunch of messing around with my friends phones I noticed that its just the toggles I have that makes my phone lag. If I have 12 toggles but most of them are off then the animations are smooth, but as soon as I turn some of them on or if I have the user picture tile on then it'll start lagging a lot. So much for this project butter. The same thing happens to my friends phone too and its all stock.
Hi all ! I made this thread to share with you my experience with i9305 roms/kernel and to make it easy to users which rom to choose ! I tried almost every rom/kernel for i9305 and here are my feedbacks.I didnt make thus thread to say this rom is good and this one is bad! just to compare depending on stability speed battery life ... on every android version you will find the best rom! Let's start
ROMS
Android Lollipop 5.x
Android Lollipop 5.1.x
AICP 9.0 Rom: I personally think that this is the best 5.1.x rom for i9305!
It s really fast and stable and has a great battery life
Note: RR rom is awesome also but aico is more stable (I got some fcs with RR)
Android 5.0.x
In android 5.0 I ll give to great roms to try
1.CyanogenMod 12 : even it is an unofficial rom but cm12 by winxuser is amazing specially stable build
2.AICP 8.0 : it is unofficial also but a very good rom
Androod KitKat 4.4.4
so in kk 4.4.4 I ll devide it to 3 sections : stock/stock based . Note 4 rom . S5 rom
Stock/stock based
I think Amcha rom is the best stock based 4.4 rom for i9305 ! n4 and s5 trasformers are there
Note 4
N4 Elite lite is the best
S5
S5 elite lite is the best
thanks @MaHo_66
Note: also qasim's note 4 ultimate rom is good but it has some bugs and issues
Alsi The Galaxy Project rom is amazing but it has less features compared to amcha
Kernels
For Lollipop 5.1.x
Agni 2.9.1 is the only one currently
For Lollipop 5.0.x
Boeffla is the best in battery life
Archie is the best in features
For KitKat
Agni kernel is the best
Thanks all
Thanks for your opinions. I planning to make S3 LTE my next phone, and for someone who is just starting here, knowing what others are enjoying the use of is great start for my flashing beginnings. Especially with the huge list of ROMs available. I know these "best ROM" threads are normally looked down upon, but I always value others opinions. Good starting point for S3 LTE noobs.
I've tried quite a few ROMs on my I9305. Only had it a few months.
CM12.1 - very smooth, the smoothest I've tried. GPS takes minutes to fix and not very accurate, data unreliable, many video playback problems, so I reluctantly left it (at BETA 4 stage).
AICP 8 (5.0.2) - quite smooth but I could not get rid of an issue with music dropouts when screen is off, despite trying all the kernels etc. A few extra features like ad blockers which didn't seem to work too well.
CM11 - very smooth (smoother still with ART on). GPS also not very good and data unreliable, but video playback at least is OK. Sleep of death on occasions. Seemed to chop the beginning off sound notifications, so didn't always hear them. Music drops out when cell connectivity changes. More bugs that I've forgotten. This was last month so I doubt it's any better now.
N4 Elite (KK stock based) - very pretty but very laggy. If you disable (root app delete) most of the features it gets better but still laggy. Smooth one minute, laggy the next, as though some process was misbehaving. Worth keeping an eye on in case it gets smoother.
S5 Elite (KK stock based) - a lot of trouble to install for some reason, lots of connectivity issues, completely failed to connect to my office wifi at all (EAP auth). Didn't try it for very long so no idea about GPS etc.
4.4.4 stock - no major problems, a few graphical glitches (may have been Agni kernel), not quite as smooth as 4.3, no reason to use it over 4.3 as we had transparent status bar anyway and Samsung did not enable ART.
4.3 stock - everything works! Data and Wifi are reliable, GPS fixes in seconds and is accurate to 10 feet, no issues or glitches with anything at all. And it's smooth. Not as smooth as CM12.1 but smoother than any KK rom I tried. This is with lots of the Samsung crap turned off/deleted of course.
---------- Post added at 04:39 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:37 PM ----------
I should add that I am using 4.3 at the moment. I like trying the new ROMs but eventually I just want a phone that works properly so I go back to 4.3!
Best Roms
I have to agree Amcha too is my favourite stock based. Smooth and great with Google launcher.
I have tried all the 5.x ROMs and as a CM fan go CM12 closely followed by AICP both using custom kernel as I need the extra volume being a bit deaf.
But at the moment I'm using the new Miui 6 rom . I have to say thanks to those who work on it - its smooth , very fast, decent battery life, excellent modem in the UK, bug free from what I can see and just works well. It takes a bit of setting up to clear up some of the CN apps etc but definitely my daily for now. I'm sticking with 4.4.4 because I use iPlayer a lot and sadly none of the 5.x's will run on it yet.
Updated to 5.6.6 today
Now has 4 way boot and more toggles ie Sync among other fixes/improvements. OTA appears broken but downloaded from the miui link and flashed in 'normal' way.
*Mega download doesn't seem to work on mobile - just opens Mega app advert for the Playstore .

I don't know I used something called rom cleaner right after I flashed it.
I've now found a better option anyway - Amcha ROM. It's based on stock Samsung 4.4.4 (so everything works) but it is de-bloated from the start, and has plenty of options in the aroma installer for adding extras that you want and removing stuff that you don't. It's also extremely smooth. You get a choice of three UI styles - S3 (stock), S5 and N4. I tried the N4 option but that still has some issues with colours I think (some menus with white text on white). The S5 UI is perfect and has no issues.

You can also mix up the Stock i9305, S5 and Note 4 styles if you wish. I 'experimented' as I kind of prefer the Stock menu style rather than the coloured circles for About, Wifi etc, but like inparticular Note 4 styling. The white on white bug could do with a fix though.
on stock jb my i9305 was always a battery eater.
I tried many roms but all had problems . .
I found r-extreme jb and everything worked nicely for ages, till I got sdcard corruption. . a jb/kernel issue, can't remember now. But kk was maturing, and I wanted better battery life. .
Then I found SlimSaber 4.4.4. The camera just worked, unlike other kk roms that need workarounds. The display dpi was far too small for my aged eyes but easy to fix. Gps required an app to set region, then it worked fine. Some cut and try with modems, as usual. I find the "real dark slim" very clear to read.
Then google-play-services auto updated and the phone never went to deep sleep. My battery problems got worse. None of the "fixes" worked so I re-installed and went gapps free. I imported my contacts from a vcf, email from the builtin email app, maps from nokias "here" app.
After 6 months the only thing I really miss is calendar sync, but for me battery life has now doubled and my phone is fast and lag free.
Hi there.
I installed a version CM12 Tenderloin a few months back. It's pretty good for the most part but I've noticed some minor bugs with it and I'd like to try another ROM. I noticed that the CM12 roms aren't as popular as the CM11 ones based on the activity of the threads. Any particular reason why CM12 hasn't really caught on? What ROM do you recommend, and do you think is the most stable, reliable and fast?
Thanks in advance.
I came today looking to the answer to a similar question: What's the lightest rom currently for HP/TP? I used to use Oat's lite and tasty, but that's been defunct for quite some time. Is there a new hottness?
Try Jcsullins CM11

I stand corrected, thanks for the information I will update that post cheers:highfive:
I've tried so many versions over the past few months and my personal consensus is that any 5.0 rom is most stable. However, all I do is watch YouTube and browse internet.
Here's a breakdown of my experiences:
5.1 Roms (PacMan and Evervolv)
Wifi issues: Frequently stops transmitting data. Need to either restart tablet or toggle wifi on/off to reset.
Youtube often will start to stutter and then stops playback completely. Sometimes videos just won't play
General responsiveness is not smooth. Lots of momentary hangs
VPN connects but does no routing (OpenVPN). Leaks my IP
5.0 Roms (Milaq)
Some Wifi issues: not as bad as 5.1 but I will occasionally need to reset wifi
Youtube plays prettty good. Some slowdown on 720p videos but does not stop. Sometimes videos don't play, needs app restart
Smooth UI and app responsiveness
VPN connects but does no routing (OpenVPN). Leaks my IP
4.4 Roms (Milaq and Jscullins)
Very smooth from the get go. LIttle to no pauses
Wifi is rock solid
VPN works as expected
Youtube very often stutters with audio/video and will stop playback until app is terminated and restarted. A real experience killer
Very frequent OS restarts. The deal breaker for me. Happens almost every 30 minutes or so.
So, tl;dr, 5.0 is the best. 5.1 the worst, and 4.4 is middle of the road. No complete rom atm, in my opinion.
5.0 would be my instant recommendation if not for VPN not working. I think it's clearly a lollipop issue as the exact profiles work fine in cm11
Thanks everyone. I hate to revive an old post but I've been really busy and never got around to installing a new ROM yet. Basically I only want to install a more stable ROM so I can give it to my son to watch videos from time to time. He really only uses it for 3 things;
1) Youtube
2) Watch videos I've downloaded for him using MX Player
3) Play kiddie learning games
5.0 actually does the job quite well, but not up to my satisfaction as I'm rather picky. I'd like to increase the battery life if possible, and I do find the performance to be a little sluggish compared to what I had before. Right now on a full charge the tablet can last maybe 48 hours with light use, 24 hours with moderate use, and 4-5 hours if used heavily.
One thing that really bugs me with 5.0 is that if I stream any live videos from sites like vipbox.tv or gofirstrow.eu the audio is always laggy. It works fine if the stream isn't live, but only has a problem if the stream is live. I never had a problem with the old ROM which is why I'd like to go back to 4.0.
So it's been a few months now since I started this thread. Any other new ROMS that people would recommend?
I just installed jcsullins lollipop version. Yes. Working camera! Stable as a rock. Recommended!
I'm using cm-12.1-20151116-SNAPSHOT-jcsullins-tenderloin.zip
Standard Non-Touch CWM Recovery
Lollipop Base Gapps package for 5.1.1
Read more here
I have tried 4.4, 5.0 and 6.0
6.0 seems the most stable but it is damn slow... youtube plays fine but often experience force closes... same for almost all apps.
4.4 is the fastest but youtube stutter a lot for some reasons; anyone got a fix??

So you really believe that this build gives the best overall experience? I had a pacman lollipop rom on my tp for some years and it worked well but it would shut down some apps sometimes and some apps didn't work at all. I put 7.1.2 evervolv on it and it became unstable and would shut down pretty consistently. I want an os that is stable but can run apps properly and can be overclocked. Can this one be overclocked?
I put this one on but youtube vids were all messed up. Not great for my kids. I guess off to find a better rom.
YouTube fix Lineage 11

The user experience is subjective and depends largely on the apps you regularly use. To fix the YouTube issue open the app play a video and go to settings (three dots upper right), set the Quality to 720p. All the builds will overclock if rooted, use Kernel Adiutor here.
I find a lot of apps require at least Android 5.0
Is there a stable 5.0 rom for the TP?
I have two apps on Evervolv 9.0
Wyze cam and Youtube Vanced
Everything seems so laggy on android 9.0. Have followed the guide to increase swap to 1gb, cpu to 1.8ghz, and remove crap from rom.
So i have the same question.
as a bonus, any tips on increasing the maximum system volume would be nice
So, what is the difference between custom roms and stock roms that causes the lag? I've noticed two things with my 6. I've tried Bliss, PureNexus, crDroid, and purely rooted stock. On the stock rom, after a short while, my 6 lags more and more to where the phone is unusable. It's very frustrating. But, when I'm on a custom rom, it's generally smooth and very fast with no lag at all, BUT, I do get random reboots and shutdowns and fc's. I don't get reboots, fc's or shutdowns on the stock rom. But I get horrible lag. Is it possible to get no lag with no reboots? Has anyone been able to make a stock rom with no lag? That would be ideal for me. I do use root for a few things, call recorder, and backup mostly. Though I don't even need the backup much anymore with google saving everything online now. I've never tried to build a rom of my own, so I don't know what the difference would be to make one like that.

My fiance is a writer and she records all of her interviews. She has an LG G4 (totally stock) She uses an app called Bold Beast for recording her calls. No root required. (we did need to fiddle with the multitude of settings to get good recording quality...)
As for the lag, I've had my device since 9/16 (bought used on Swappa). It came with the Beta for N installed. I've been using official N since it was released as an OTA. I only experience any noticeable lag in one situation: When my phone is very low on battery (<30) and I use HDR+, usability and reaction times takes a serious hit. I'm a moderate power user, otherwise, and I haven't experienced anything else that I would classify as lag.
That said, I wonder if there was some serious batch quality differences when this phone was being manufactured as I've seen other complaints of lagging.
Good luck, and sorry that I could only provide a contrary anecdotal response.
