Hello everyone,
First of all i want to give you some informations about the reason for this project:
When the Nexus 4 has been leaked in 2012 there were a lot of rumors about the Nexus branding on the back, many people wanted the X to be colored, but Google decided not to do it.
Here's an example what it could have looked like:

I owned a Nexus 4 for 1 month, until it was stolen
After a while without a Nexus device, i decided to get a Nexus 10 and Nexus 5 in 32GB.
In another thread i've seen a picture of a Nexus 5 with a colored X on the back, i really wanted to know how to get this done.
So i tried many things out to make the colored X possible.. without any succes.
Here are some sample pictures of my ideas:
It has failed because the lettering is very small and you have to work very precisely , which is not possible for a hobbyist.
By chance I looked at the back of my Nexus Tablets 10 and got another idea.
The lettering on the tablet is engraved and its possible to make the X colored with special painting, found on the internet.
I have a lot taped , sanded , degreased and then applied the paint.
Overall, it took me 4 hours of work , but the result was worth it I think.
Opinions ?
Looks good but for me it wouldn't be worth it because I always have it in a case since I'm always taking it places

:good:
Good idea poor execution. Have you thought about re-doing the process? Seems like you could use a tutorial video on hand-painting crafts. Even with the poor lighting and angle we can see the severe imperfections from a, what seems to be, rushed paint job. I can't imagine it took you 4 hours to paint the X with such poor results.
It can look good if done properly, yes, but for the sake of having color I would say it does not look good I this case.
Just posting my honest opinion.
Thanks for sharing. Great idea, but imho you can't get OEM quality without special technology of painting

Haven't seen anyone mentioning it yet, so I've decided to post it here.

The DROID 4 is upon us whether we are ready for it or not. The first pictures of it popped up a few weeks ago followed by signs pointing to it arriving on December 8. We also got confirmation that training has started for some Verizon shops, along with this set of official specs. Who knew we would see it so soon?
The D4 will have a 4″ screen (LCD or AMOLED?), 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, DROID RAZR styling, 5-row slideout keyboard, 4G LTE, front camera for video chatting and an 8MP rear camera. This could be the DROID that many of you have been waiting for. The Stratosphere had LTE and a keyboard, but this phone has top of the line specs to go with them.
On a related note, thoughts on the tool needed to remove the back cover? It doesn’t have a removable battery, but the cover can be removed using that circular tool pictured above, so that you can insert a SIM and SD card.

This is what the droid 3 should have been in the first place...Instead of opting for one standout phone though, Motorola decided to make 2 behind the curve phones in the time span of two months. They should give Droid 3 owners some kind of upgrade deal or something, that's just crazy.
edit: Did they get rid of the lip? If so, now I'm really upset, I always hated that lip at the bottom.
I strongly agree with you. The Droid 4 seems like the phone I've been waiting for the whole time. I'm quite sure Moto released the D3 with less superior hardware solely as a marketing strategy.
Too bad the battery's no longer swappable (with the exception of removing some additional covers)
I just got the droid 3 after tons of problems with the D2G. I must say, for not having paid for the phone, I'd be willing to pay for this D4. BUT, not being able to install an extended battery is a major dis. Sure the 1785mAh that this has is bigger then the 1500 the we have...but its still smaller than the 1950 the extended has. Who care how fast your phone is if its dead...

It most likely will also get ICS

Don't buy it. Realy the droid 4 six months after the droid 3. Then there will be thr droid 5 six month after that. That's why as soon as I can I'm never going to own a carrier phone again. Its all nexus for me. Motorola has disapointed me very much . People sign the patition pn the thread abouve this one.

Screen TFT? That would mean its not AMOLED like the RAZR. If so, I hope it is not pentile! Lets hope the screen is IPS/SLCD with classic RGB stripe matrix.

http://www.phonearena.com/news/Nexus-4s-camera-produces-purple-lens-flare-too_id36705
Nexus 4's camera produces purple lens flare, too
Well, we guess nothing is perfect in this world. Not even the Google Nexus 4 by LG, although we can easily forgive its few drawbacks due to the marvelous price Google has attached to it and the tons of cool features that have made their way inside the package.
When the iPhone 5 came out, some unhappy users started complaining that in some situations, the otherwise very capable camera makes bright lights such as lamps to appear with a nasty purple lens flare effects in images. Apple has even responded to those claims, saying that... this is the camera's normal behavior.
Now that we're seeing that the same happens with the Nexus 4, we can really believe that it's a normal issue for such camera sensors. Thanks to a Google+ user who has uploaded a rather coarse Photosphere shot, we notice that Google's handset is prone to producing abundant amounts of purplish lens flare, too. Unfortunately, we doubt it that there can be any kind of normal solution for that nasty effect, plus we guess that an accessory maker won't come to the rescue this time.
But you know what the good part of all this is? That it doesn't really matter much, since phone cameras have never been that great, really. And why should you bother with such issues, when you have so many other awesome features to enjoy, such as the quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset, the beautiful 4.7" True HD IPS Plus display, or Android 4.2!

Nope.
(you can see it on the right side of the sun)
Btw this effect is something "common" when making photo in direct light, even reflex objetice have that defect, so i don't really mind if a smartphone have some purple fringing... just don't make high contrast/direct light photos
Canon lenses have purple too. It's just a side effect of CA/flaring:
the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Lens-Flare.aspx?FLI=0&API=0&FLIComp=0&APIComp=0&LensComp=0&CameraComp=0&Lens=115
dpreview.com/lensreviews/canon_50_1p4_c16/5 (scroll down to the flare section)
(XDA won't let me post URLs because I'm still a liability)
It's just worse on a phone because the back isn't meant to be high grade optical glass but a rather flat piece of glass.
There is thread about this already.
Please continue the discussion there.

My co-worker (iPhone5) and I (N4) each tried to take an identical photo of some bourbon I bought the other day. The side-by-side is below. Granted, this test is close to meaningless, because he might have been shaking during his photo, but I was still pleased to see how much better the N4 output is compared to the iPhone 5 for this particular photo.

PHILLY!
What was the actual color of the wall behind?
Wow, N4 is much nicer in that situation. Probably isn't true for all though...

Yeah, and the 23-year is like a symphony in your mouth! Too bad the Pappy brand is so hard to come across these days
This confirms what I have seen from these two cams. The iPhone uses a lot of algorithms to make photos "pop", much like setting an SLR to output vivid jpegs. N4 seems to be less agressive with exposure and post-processing.
I can only explain the iPhone image looking fuzzier as being due to camera movement (it does have a better lens).
Yeah, it seems like the camera on the N4 is not adding any effects, allowing you to adjust it in the app itself.
I can see why Apple wants to adjust it a bit though, they are targeting people who just want to take a picture and leave it as it is. Though it might be true of Android customers too, it doesn't seem like Google has that as a priority.

Wow. The iPhone picture looks bright and washed out. The n4 looks darker yet has more detail. Also, the iPhone picture looks like you'd be drinking something watered down and the n4 pic looks like some manly stuff I'd drink even though I don't drink.
I voided my warranty.
As someone who owns both phones. This is a one off situation. The iPhone 5 has a better camera.
yeah, my gf has the iphone5 and i will say it has better photos in about 90% of situations... either way, they are two of the best phone cameras on the market so im okay with either

Edit: I got requests for a teardown. You can find it here: http://imgur.com/a/t87GV :fingers-crossed:
Looks great!I will try do something with my old lego
That's definitely AWESOME, any way you put it together (or take it apart). Outstanding job, and you matched the colors more or less as best you could, just even MORE AWESOME.
Makes me want to go hit up a thrift store looking for some Lego blocks now.
This is quite possibly the best thing I have ever seen.
Cool design. I certainly like how you used those smooth pieces for the N7 to lean on as a cap.
Re: Lego stand I made for my Nexus
I'd find 2 men to stick under the rails. Make them pose with arms up, like they're holding the machine up.
Now the obligatory request:
Let's see a proper teardown and inventory of the pieces and an assembly video... MUAHAHAHAHA
Seriously though, I would like to get a list of the parts if possible or a breakdown, some of those I can't quite make out. Hell man, you need to make a kit of this thing and start making a profit, maybe even Jerry-rig it with a cradle at the bottom with 4 pogo pins in it and the microUSB and audio jacks, I'm sure it would be a popular item.
So many good ideas, I swear. If some company can make and charge $50 for a piece of wood wrapped in cloth as a Nexus 7 case, surely you could make some ducats with such a thing...
This. Is. Awesome. Without any other words. Seconded for an assembly video, if you ever get a chance.
Re: Lego stand I made for my Nexus
Are the 3 ring like bits on each side aesthetic or are they supposed to hold a cable?
Looks good regardless.

Thanks. Brilliant. And here I am 20 euro poorer buying a case and stand online.
Have just given me the perfect idea to keep my 6 year old son occupied for the weekend using his abundant star wars and batman Lego sets. I don't think I will video the endeavours - to painful for forum I expect - but if he accepts the challenge will share photos.
He he, awesome. I have some Lego lying around too, I might do a stand tomorrow.
Thanks!
Thanks you guys, for the overwhelming response. I really appreciate it )
@daryllh: I acually had two Lego men underneath (a Storm Trooper and something else) but they kept falling off when I bumped the stand. Plus they collided with the all grey theme, so I took them off.
@bsoplinger: The 3 bits on each side is actually the one half of a hinge (like the hinges I use to get the angle of the slope. They are only on there for the looks: I had no 2x3 pieces in grey, and the only 2x1 (without the hinge part) I had, was in also in a non grey color.
If more of you want me to, I'll do a video showing how it's assembled and what parts I use.
But if I were to purchase the parts, I would choose other bricks in a few places. For example, in the upper corners (under the part where the N7 rests) I've used regular (thick) 8x2 pieces because I had no 'flat' tiles (1/3 height) in 8x2.
Thanks again
YES WE WANT A TEARDOWN VIDEO.
Any info would be greatly appreciated as I would seriously go looking for some Lego blocks/kits to build one of these myself. It's just so unique and not even something that I - and apparently pretty much everyone else but you, RipRapRob, realized "Hey, I got an idea for something with Lego blocks and my Nexus 7..."
So definitely, a teardown or parts breakdown video would be absolutely welcome and appreciated so I can get the same blocks myself.
Lego superman Nexus 7 stand
I didn't think through my promise of euro5 to my son if he made me a stand. After 10 mins he came back with this offering. So Denmark 1 and Ireland 0. Mind you, this country is in a pretty poor economic state - well that's my excuse.
hehehe Superman to the rescue!!!
Re: Lego stand I made for my Nexus
That's awesome.
Sorry,delete please
:good: Nice!
You might just have a good future designing wheelchairs for disabled piglets.
My weak attempt. Don't have that much lego.
Hey guys I'm not sure if this should be posted here or in the general discussion thread but I'm very curious to know who exactly copied who's design? I mean the iPhones and pixel 4s that came out last year just seem like somebody copied somebody's design lol. I tried googling this but couldn't find anything at all on this. So I'm wondering if some experts here have the inside scoop! Blast away on this please!! And which design you guys think is better down to the quality of the build the textures etc.

iPhone looks nothing like the pixel. I don't get why people say it
Front looks completely different, one has a notch and one doesn't
Only thing similar on the back is a square module but the design of it is completely different
And ... [yawn] ... why does it matter to you?

Doesn't matter but the first iPhone 11 image/design leak was January 6, 2019 and the first Pixel 4 XL image/design leak was June 10, 2019.

As Pixel 4 owners, we understand that they're two different phones but the average consumer sees glass back with black square camera array in the top left corner so they're similar. Put a case on either and you can't blame someone for mistaking one for the other.
