[Q] Last original update for Samsung Galaxy S is crap :/ - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys.I recently got my first Android phone. It's Samsung Galaxy S GT-i9000.I like look, speed is good,it is not lag.I play Subway surfers and Temple Run 2 without lag.Internet is fast, everything works well, but first week of using it,I noticed battery drain.First time it was over the night and I was so confused because everything was closed in Task Menager. That was Gingerbread 2.3.3.I searched forums and I did everything it's possible.Turn off all for sure:wii-fi,network data, sync, set screen on lowest, turned of GPS,bluetoot, live wallpapers, automatic updates, vibrate, animations, everything possible and drain was still there.I was sad.I searched forums 2 weeks and again nothing. Then I found one solution:Reeboting phone after charging and after long playing games. That realy works but it's stupid to do that every day. Then I found that I should update firmware.I wanted to be originall and official so I downloaded Kies and installed new and latest update for my phone. It's Gingerbread 2.3.4.First day it was fine beside internet and games still drained battery a lot but after charging it was all good. There wasnt big Os drain.Just 3-4%.I was happy until other day after charging I went to sleep.Battery droped to 51%.I was so frustrated.Next time after charging it was good again but next time not.I'm sure I closed every app.My phone isn't rooted and I don't wanted to be till yesterday when I saw that you can choose which apps will be open.I am still not sure about if.SNS is always open and I never use it.I hate this bug on gb.I cant believe its last official update for this phone.Android and Samsung really don't care for their users.I am affraid of install custom rom or rooting.I think that my phone will become slow and games will lag.Is there any original firmwares for this phone which are stable, fast and not draining battery? How to.install it?Is new KitKat 4.4 good for this phone? Is subwaysurfers laging on it?What should I do?Please help me guys, please.Sorry for bad english

Ok,thank you.I will try it this week. But I gotta few more questions:
-Does my phone has to be rooted to install this firmware?
-If not, will it be rooted when I install this?
-Is this official firmware from Samsung?
-Is it BETA version?
-Has it bugs?
Can't wait to try it!

For a clean install and root, flash XXJVU ROM and its CF_root, as it is easy and problem free. I never had any problem with JVU
The whole procedure is given below
FLASHING JVU ROM WITH ODIN v1.85:
1. Install USB drivers for i9000 on PC (ignore if already installed) and restart computer to take effect
2. Turn off your phone/remove battery and put it in download mode
by holding VOL DOWN+MENU+POWER
Do you get the Yellow Triangle?..If so
continue..if not do it again...
3. Open odin and after that Plug in Phone with USB Cable To Computer.
4. In ID:COM box it should go yellow and you should see
ADDED in the message box
5. Check Re-Partition option and then Click PIT
button to select: s1_odin_20100xxx.pit file.
6. Click PDA button and select :
CODE_I9000XXJVU_xxxxx.tar
7. Click PHONE button and select:
MODEM_I9000XXJVU_xxxxx.tar
8. Click CSC button and select:
GT-I9000-CSC-MULTI-OXAJVU.tar
9. When you have all the files needed in ODIN,
Click Start and let it Run
10. Once complete you will see S logo on phone
(computer will make a few noises like connect/
disconnecting
11. If Odin is stuck showing no change above yellow turned box for more than 2 minutes, close Odin and repeat steps 3 to 10.
12.Unplug the Cable from Phone
13. Run your phone and choose the language and the other startup options. Run until you get the home screen.
You will see your phone working excellent. Now it's time for rooting
Procedure for rooting:
1. Power Off Phone
2. Download CF-Root kernel first.
Unzip the file to a folder. You
will get the .tar file – CF-Root-
XX_OXA_JVU_2.3.6-v4.3-CWM3RFS.tar
— inside the extracted folder. DO NOT extract
the .tar file (even if you see it as a zip
file, which it is not). You need to flash
the .tar file using Odin to gain root
access and install the ClockworkMod
Recovery (CWM) alongside. If you’re
getting zimage file, it means you’ve
extracted the .tar file too! — and that’s
not a right thing to do.
3. Boot your phone in Download Mode —
Press and hold volume down+HOME
+POWER keys together.
4. Open Odin now. Connect your phone to PC now. You’ll notice “Added! !” message in the Odin’s message box in the bottom left and the yellow box.
5. On Odin, click the PDA tab and select the .tar file you got in step 2 — CF-Root-XX_OXA_JVU_2.3.6-v4.3-
CWM3RFS.tar
6. Make sure “Re-Partition” checkbox is not selected. Leave the “Auto Reboot” and “F. Reset Time” checkboxes selected.
7. Click the Start button on Odin to flash the CF-Root kernel. After the CF Root is installed, phone will restart automatically. When you see the PASS written in top left box, you can remove the cable.
8. Your phone is rooted now. That surperuser app is there! The CWM app is also there, and
clockworkmod based recovery has
been installed too. Now you enter the custom ROM world without worries. Enjoy!
9. To install any custom ROM, first of all, download the ROM zip file and its g-apps zip file and put them on your internal sd card
10. Now go to recovery. You can go to the recovery by 3 buttons combo:
Turn off your phone/remove battery and put it in recovery mode by holding
VOLUME UP+MENU+POWER
11. You are in recovery now. Click on the "install zip from sd card" option and choose the ROM zip file you want to flash on your phone by navigating by volume up and down buttons and choose by using power button. Click on yes when prompted.
12. When you see "install from SD card complete", install the g-apps zip file.
13. When g-apps installation has been completed, Restart your phone and now enjoy!!!

Its not bricked ( so be cool ) when Odin is stuck in setup connection, simply reboot PC and phone and before attempting to flash again, kill KIES in task manager ( All of these solutions are mentioned in MY Android Solutions, at the top (sticky) of this Forum)
When using Odin to Flash, Open task manager and close these : Kies.exe , KiesTrayAgent.exe, and KiesPDLR.exe
IF your downloaded File (.tar, .zip, .md5 .rar ) is corrupted, Odin could get stuck too, so download from another source, if it happens repeatedly

Just for your INFO.
KIES process will only activate when you connect your phone to PC , IF you did not tick USB debugging, Odin will not detect your phone and comport will not light up (it means you had USB debugging checked. ), so when Odin gets stuck on setup connection,
a) KIES and ODIN are connecting together, as such Odin will have problem trying to setup as KIES willl connect first before ODin3
b) When downloaded firmwares are corrupted, may aso have setup connection problems.
IF you had learned to use the search function in this forum, you would have found this problem and solutions experienced by many and solved easily. So next time use the search or ask for help and be patient as not all members are online in every minute of the day.

Great post!I will use it when i need it in future.
I think GamerzROM Legend Edition V4.0 is great, how much RAM is available with that rom?
Games are great and fun on android phones,so that ROM got my attention.
With GB 2.3.4 Official Stock firmware I was able to have 328 MB available, and when cash is deleted,it takes 150 MB of RAM.I played Subway Surfers and Ski Challange 2014 without lagging.
I'm curious is it even more faster with this ROM.I mean, this looks like Android 4.0 and I heard that Samsung Galaxy S doesn't have enough RAM for that ROM.Tell me more about GamerzROM Legend Edition V4.0 for Samsung Galaxy S GT-i9000
THANK YOU

[Q] Would you tell me my I9000 dead not just dying....

Thanks in advance for any response!
The followings are my phone's symthoms:
1. My phone WAS FANTASTIC until I updated new Darky extreme version 9.2 (upgrade from 9.0)
2. I degraded it to the stock rom with Ryan's OLFG -> Working very well...
3. Until the phone was restarted. The phone was still working however
4. IT BECAME FREEZING. I couldnt scroll, couldnt touch the screen, or the phone response was like 5 mins later for each touch.
5. I followed instructions on the internet to flash with stock rom (JM8) and upgraded it to JPO, and the result is
6. THE PHONE COULDNT BE BOOTED at the Galaxy logo.
7. I tried to flash the phone over and over with different stock roms using ODIN 1.3 (with well understanding about repartition and PIT)
8. NOW, my phone is still able to access the download mode, but my PC CANNT SEE THE PHONE DRIVER ANYMORE(tested on 3 other laptops with the same result)
9. Reinstall USB drivers like 20 times, the results have been the same.
TO me this should be a phone death. Im gonna purchase the new Galaxy S 2
HOWEVER, If there is anyway to revive my phone back to normal (Cuz I wanna get some important data in the internal card), I will not only send a big gratitude but some DONATE as well.
Thanks.
so you put the phone in download mode first... then you attach the USB ???
Does anything happen when your in Odin ?? does it not say connected or anything ??
and have you tried doing a factory reset in recovery mode ??
aslong as your phone can go into download mode there is still hope so dont give up on it just yet
U obv have samsung kies right?. Go on processes on ur pc ctrl alt del n kill the kiestrayagent process
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Surely I killed KS before doing ODIN. The PC(s) said it was Unknown device.
My phone was on when android 2.1 installed (but freezing, not just lagging .... completely freezing on the home screen) and would not boot if i installed 2.2
Sigh....
Thanks for your replies
The PC(s) said it was Unknown device.
Thats generally a USB /driver/windows problem .
You installed deadlys rom and it should still be recoverable even from that .
Is your phone picked up via Kies phone/Odin will need Kies installed .
I would have flashed back to a clean copy of Eclair first off to get the phone working .
jje
Both Kies and Odin could not see my phone... I killed Kies process before doing Odin, but the result was still a sadness.

Help me rooting my sgs i9000 runnin value pack 2.3.6

Hey guys am new to dis forum and I wanna root my sgs i9000
its an indian version phone n here r d details
PDA - i9000ddjvb
Phone - i9000ddjv7
Csc - i9000ddjvb
Firmware version - 2.3.6
Baseband version - i9000ddjv7
Kernal version - [email protected]#2
Built num - gingerbread.ddjvb
Pls help me n pls provide me step by step instructions as am an begginer n wanna root my handset .. pls help me out guys
Thanks.
afaik there's no rooted kernel for this rom.
you can try that, anyway.
1 - google for "odin" and download it on your pc. or take this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1464775
2 - similarly, install samsung kies (so you have samsung drivers)
3 - download semaphore_2.7.4_sc.tar kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1112908
4 - download original kernel from ramad's thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102881
4 - turn off your phone, that press power+volume_down+home until you enter download mode (yellow pic on screen)
5 - run odin.exe (as administrator in win7). make sure kies is not running on your pc before running odin.
6 - connect your phone to pc via usb
7 - in odin select as "pda" the semaphore kernel. leave all options as defaults. execute it. this is done in a few seconds. this way you are rooting you phone (aka adding busybox) and installing superuser.apk
8 - unplug usb.
9 - let the phone reboot. then turn it off back again, and get once again in download mode (power+volume_down+home).
10 - run odin.exe (as administrator in win7)
11- connect phone to pc via usb
12 - in odin select ramad's jvb kernel as "pda". execute.
13 - start phone, to be sure reinstall superuser from google play
14 - you're done, now you are rooted with original jvb kernel.
I do not know if this is a robust procedure, but it worked for my italian jw7 rom, hope it is ok for you too.
after gaining root privileges, you can remove semaphore.apk from /system/app with root explorer (download from google play)
Do u think it ll work

since your phone is not rooted you have to use odin anyway.
"superoneclick" methods do not work with sgs1.
hence, you have to flash a pre-rooted kernel to gain root permissions.
after that you can flash the original kernel thus restoring the original state of the phone, apart from rooting it. you don't lose any data or setting, by the way.
since it looks like you're a cautious guy, I suggest you to study a little bit more thru the forum to understand how flashing kernels with odin works.
you can start by downloading odin, kies, and both kernels, and the whole original rom (you can find that in ramad's thread as well). Ramad's thread explains exactly how to flash with odin, btw.
I'm glad to help, but I'm not taking any responsibility on your behalf. do it at your own risk.
thanks broo ..

hey i followed d way u said n it worked smoothly .. thanks a loy bro .. and now u can u tell me how to go for a custom rom and upgrade my handset to ICS is it possible or do i need to make any more chnges to my handset .. lemme no asap .. thans in advance ..
I thought you wanted to root the phone for basic mods and removing samsung bloatware, not for flashing a custom rom. That's another matter.
if you want to flash a custom rom you need cwm recovery. this is a tool you get in "recovery mode", turn phone off and then power+volume_up+home to get there. some gingerbread custom roms can be flashed with odin, but as far as I know, you can't for ics or jb.
stock recovery won't let you flash any rom.
you do not have cwm recovery on your stock kernel.
to root any custom rom, you have to flash semaphore back again, and stick with that. with semaphore you have cwm recovery, so choose the rom you want to install and follow its thread instructions.
BUT: I've tried LOADS of custom roms, and never been fully satisfied with anyone of them. reboots, phone turns off by itself, limited functionalities, small bugs...
always reverted back to (rooted) stock. I'm never ever going to flash any rom but a stock one anymore. Of course you'll find different opinions on that on xda, this is just my 2 cents.
Lastest stock roms (2.3.6) are fast, smooth and completely bugfree.
Thanks in advance
hey thnks in advance but one of my frns has rooted to ics n he is telling tat phone works smoothly only for video recording and another one app .. rest works fine for him
anything for ram space .. i just have 364 mb ram wich gets almost full quite aftr using d net or running any apps .. pls suggest me any app or anythin wich i can do to increase my ram storage and other things ..

search threads for himem kernels. you'll find many of them. you'll probably get another 20 or 30mb. but I'm not going to suggest something I've never tried. current ram to me is more than enough.
regarding ics being faster and smoother, that's a matter of debate. my opinion is that the fastest rom around is cm7.2 (gingerbread), much faster than any ics rom. much more. At least among those I've tried.
the whole point about custom aosp roms is that samsung never released source code on some drivers, hence the little bugs here and there in cm7/9, ics, jb, and so on. that's why stock roms are superior, imho.
if you really want ics, move to sgsII or sgsIII

Lets start :-
1- Download odin3 and one kernel file as given above that you wish to use
2- Unplug any USB device attached to your Computer and shut down kies (if running)
3- Power off the phone.
4- Press and hold Home button with Power button. your phone will go into [Download Mode]
5- run Odin in your PC
6- connect phone in download mode with computer using USB cable [ Odin will detect] and Com port will turn Yellow color
7- Check the PDA radio button and browse for file the kernel of your choice that you have downloaded earlier, than click open
8- Press start button. Odin will start flashing and comport button will turn Green and it will inform you to remove USB connection

just to add to the earlier post, just in case you have never entered download mode before
For i9000 :- you hold the Volume Down + Home + Power
Note:
When using Odin to Flash, Open task manager and close these : Kies.exe , KiesTrayAgent.exe, and KiesPDLR.exe

i can't go into recovery or download mode after flashing

Hi,
could anyone help!
my device is galaxy ace s5830i
i have already rooted my device and used CW Recovery and taken a copy of my original system .oki
i wanted to set up a custom rom i restarted and reset and deleted the cash then installed the rom.
i think it was Retribution beta
then i wanted to update to that custom rom (MindCR ICS)
all i did i restarted my phone of course went into R mode and reset and deleted the cash then installed that next custom rom .
after installing completed when i rebooted it only gave me (samsung galaxy ace s5830i) logo and doesn't open the system when i restart it doesn't go into recovery or download mode it only gives me again the same logo.
even when i press long power button it shuts down and opens automatically.
is there any help knowing that i have already taken a copy of my system.

I have this problem before and i managed to use ODIN3 v1.83 (can use Odin3 v3.07) to detect my phone and flash a stock rom onto the device. I followed the advice given on this excellent thread by Supermini.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1071970
As mentioned on his thread make sure you have the latest stock firmware from the sammobile site or by using Check Fus Downloader as per the guide in Rafael thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1551156, a working samsung USB driver to detect your mobile on your PC and a copy of ODIN3 v1.83 (or v1.84, v1.87, v3.07 run ODIN in administrator mode if using in windows). Ultimately if this this fails you could always try a USB jig which can be purchased from ebay, etc. to get the phone into download mode.
Good luck and if this helps make sure you send a thank you to Supermini.

So . . . last thing to rescue your phone is buy on e-bay or in other place JIG if it isn't help you then try in phone service and say you tried install new ROM with Kies and your phone is brick (maybe it'll work).
Say to Service Centre Representatives that you kept your at charging last night
And when you woke up
It was not booting up
Pretend as if you dunno anything about root or ROM
They fixed my bricked phone
I am not sure if I am breaking any forum rule by telling this
Hey bro sorry for the late reply also, please before you do anything else try following my instructions.
1) download Odin v3.07
2) source the stock firmware you want to flash from sammobile.
3) make sure you have the Samsung mobile driver.
4) open and run Odin as administrator and load the single file in the PDA and highlight the tick box.
5) shut the phone down and take out your Sim card.
6) put the mobile into download mode as normal (press both up/down vol keys +power)
7) connect the phone to the PC and check in Odin to make sure its com port is detected.
8) then flash through Odin as normal.
I understand what your saying about no download screen appearing, I have found through experience that custom kernels can cause no download screen to appear. Normally with stock kernel this is not a problem but with custom kernels sometimes all you get is a black screen. Ignore this and just make sure that Odin is detecting the phone and try to flash, chances are it will flash the stock ROM and kernel. If you get the setup connection error in Odin and the fail 0\1 just try another USB port on your PC and keep persevering.
Please keep us updated so we can help you if you need it.

Why will it be hardbricked if the custom roms are based on s5830i stock roms?
But it is probable that we did I not flash the rom properly as per procedure..so is there a chance that it be bricked? Else the rom may have some problem... just telling the probability

[Q] After rooting phone is not starting, please help...

Hi,
I have Samsung Galaxy S I9000 running Ginger Bread.
I wanted to upgrade my phone to Ice Cream Sandwitch or Jelly Beans. In order to do it, I started with below steps to root my mobile.
1. Installed latest Clockwise Mode application into my phone.
2. Installed Odin3 v1.7 in my laptop.
3. Downloaded CF-Root-XX_XEU_JPY-v1.3-BusyBox-1.17.1.tar on my laptop.
4. Started Odin first.
5. Disconnected mobile and started in download mode with Volume Down + Home Button + Power Key.
5. After starting the download mode, connected mobile to laptop using the USB.
6. Keep all the default values in Odin3 i.e. Re-Partition option unchecked, Auto Reboot and F-Reset Time option enabled. Selected tar file CF-Root-XX_XEU_JPY-v1.3-BusyBox-1.17.1.tar in PDA option.
7. Connected mobile and it detected ID Comm [Highlighted in Yellow].
8. Finally click on Start button.
After starting the process was completed and Yellow color changed to Green one, phone was auto reboot.
But after reboot it is just stuck on start of screen and not going ahead. I wait for 2 hours but still not working.
Could you please help me how I can solve this issue now?
Did you try to pull battery out and restart the phone again?
Do you still can go in CWM with 3 button combo again?
If yes then try to flash a ICS or JB kernel (depending on what ROM you finally want to have on your phone) via CWM and then go in advanced and restart recovery (if available), otherwise just try to flash the rom.zip on top.
If CWM is not possible, the go in download mode an falsh a tar version of kernel via ODIN.
Here are different semaphore kernels for each android version:
http://78.46.194.137/downloads/gt-i9000-ics
http://www.semaphore.gr/downloads/gt-i9000-jb
For ics it should work after 1. flash, but for JB you have to flash it 2 or even 3 times, if after restart phone does not boot. Then battery out again, start in recovery and flash zip again.
Good luck and good success .
I think, at this position, installing a new gingerbread stock ROM will be preferable. Try installing XXJVU. Then root with cwm and install any slim bean version in case you are interested to use jelly bean.

Sure that will be the best way....but my suggestions do not take much time, so why not give them a try .
But if its not going, then a restock is the best you are right:
What I always do for restock is using slappys rescue kit.
Unzip it and flash the Rom via Odin. There is everything, also a txt file with a guide included.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29114573&postcount=2
If you want to have slim rom then its recommended to flash CM9 first or flash a modem afterwards via cvm, because slim does not have a modem included.
And/Or just follow the installation guides/recommendations from the single ROM Threads.
Thanks Guys for your help.
My issue is resolved with below post.

You are here in totally wrong section: this is a i9000 help thread section. Hopefully you didn't flash a i9000 rom, otherwise your phone is hard bricked.
tetakpatalked from Nexus 7 flo
Me 2: It was from low battery in my case
I had similar problem when rooting my Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone with Odin3. After rooting with a success message my phone was showing just the Samsung Logo each time I was trying to turn it on without loading OS. I googled and directed here and connected my phone to the charger as its mentioned in a link you provided which solved your problem. It turned on automatically after a few minutes while of charging and when turned on it was charged approximately 40%.
As I was very afraid my phone got serious harm at first I hope this maybe a sedative probability for duds really worry about what happened to their smartphone.

AT&T SM-G730A ROM issues? Please Help!

I'm a newbie with the rooting and custom rom installation, I've actually never done one before attempting in on my phone a SM-G730A mini S3, I have searched online and was unable to find the factory rom for this device or instructions how to install.
I was able to root my phone using king root, Then I started removing all the factory programs that ill never used. It was great until a few days ago I removed 2 programs that affected my phone operates. It now gets stuck on the at&t screen when powering on, but the funny thing is that if someone calls me, the screen pops up for me to answer.
Issues with my phone: gets stuck on at&t screen, no home screen at all, only way to access apps is through S voice.
I first started looking into the custom rom because I wanted wi-fi calling since the phone signal is low on this phone. I appreciate any help on this. Thanks

I think you should reflash your current firmware version via Odin3. You can get stock ROMs from sammobile.com/firmware. You will lose your root access and you will get these system apps back what you deleted before.
I download it to my SD card and then what? excuse my newbie questions
those stock roms from sammobile youll need to flash via odin / heimdall

Firmwares from SamMobile are only flashable via Odin3 on your PC/Laptop. Move your downloaded firmware to your PC/Laptop and unzip it. Move the ...HOME.tar.md5 file to your desktop.
1. Now download Odin3 and install the drivers for your phone.
2. Open Odin3 as Admin to avoid errors or "Fail" messages while flash. (If you use Windows XP then open Odin like always) and make sure only "Auto reboot" and "F.reset" are checked.
4. Close all Samsung Kies process in task manager to avoid errors. (ignore this if you don't have Kies installed)
5. Tap on PDA/AP and choose the ...HOME.tar.md5 file (wait until Odin finish check the MD5 check sum)
6. Now on your phone. Turn off your device. Then hold volume down + home button + power button till you see a "Warning!!" screen and continue with volume up.
7. Connect your device to your PC/Laptop via USB.
8. Wait until Odin detect your device. (You will see a blue box) If your PC/Laptop install the drivers again then wait a moment.
9. If everything is OK then you can start flashing. (A flash process take up to 10 Min, so be patient)
10. Now your phone should reboot and you're done.
Don't forget you will lose ROOT access and you will get your system apps back what you deleted before.
DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Newbie Help
I am getting ready to do a first attempt at rooting on a Samsung S3 mini, G730A. I don't know how to get the Samsung USB driver onto the desktop because I'm not sure where it's actually located. I downloaded the Samsung Driver Zip and it's loaded on my C: drive but didn't find anything is there that seemed specific to that phone. I did locate what appears to be the generic Android device USB driver for this phone through Device Manager and put that on the desktop but not sure that is the one that I'll need when I go root. Any suggestions?
Thanks
