ROOT
Download CoCore kernel, unpack and use Universal Kernel flash (and es file explorer) to install it.
Copy CM 10.2 on SD and go to CWM and install it.
This is in short, look for threads of it and there is written too.

Well i have this problem too 1hour ago, iv just put my sd crad to pc and download alfs fix, then when my phone is starting iv start pushing BACK button, after that recovery appears, and just choose install zip from sd card and here you go....
if i install alfs fix, i wont be able to enter CWM 3.2 or XRecovery, only kerne's recovery which is CWM 5.x
but CWM 5.x is not supported by my zip. it needs version 3.x

Are you shure about that you wont be able to install your zip with newer version of recovery, because as far as i know you can always install files for older with newer but you cant do it in reverse...
when i try to install a custom zip in CWM 5.x , i get an error that it is not supported and must try with CWM 3

1- no problem at all.
2- yes. Flash stock rom with odin.
3- yes.
4- stay away from rom manager, it bricked ace.
one more thing... i see in the post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18178563&postcount=13 that the falsh is with the old veriosn recovery.. if i have stock rom i need only to boot in stock rom and update from zip file: recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.6-galaxyace-fix.zip . correct?
Questions 1-3 have been answered.
To flash a rom, download it from xda.
It will be a ZIP file.
Go to recovery, do the wipes, install the Rom, gapps if you whish, reboot. First Boot might take a while. No worries.
For detailed instructions see the thred of the Rom of your choice.
Cheers!

Help installing CM 10.2 by Team Canjica

Hi,
I own a Galaxy S Advance. It came with Gingerbread and then I updated it with Jelly Bean using Kies.
I have not installed any non samsung android OS on my phone.
By now reading the way I have written my post, you would have realized I dont know anything about cusotm rom's or rooting etc etc.
I am tired of the slowness of my phone. I want to give CM 10.2 a try. I have backed up all my data. I know there exists a way to revert to original Samsung OS incase I have any issues with the CM 10.2.
I dont know how to proceed to install CM 10.2 on my phone.
If some one can please guide me through the process I will be thankful.
Download ftom here: http://d-h.st/UVl
Then follow instructions from 1st post of cm10.2 thead. You have link in my sig.
Now i am not sure if it will work on stock recovery.
Search for root jb on the forum. Thread by shaan.
Install cocore kernel - link with download / instructions is in my sig.
Then proceed with cm instalation.
Sent from my SGS Adv. using xda-developers app.

It will work without anything. Just with stock recovery. No need to root, CoCore.. Piece of cake.
But @kckinn if you want to use anything else, you will need to flash stock JB. You can't install any stock ROM or previous CM from CM10.2 (some partition is changed, so classic instalation or using backup will not work).

Your replies are very much appreciated.
However, due to lack of my technical knowledge I could not make complete sense.
Here is what I understand.
1. No need to root or install cocore kernel prior to installing CM 10.2.
2. I need to download and save the zip file and gapps zip folders on my external storage and perform the following, as mentioned in the CM 10.2 post:
"Reboot on Recovery
Wipe Data / Factory Reset
Select "Install the Zip from External Storage"
Choose CM zip file
Choose GApps zip file
Reboot to system"
Here are my questions:
1. When it says "external storage", does it mean I need to have a external SD card. Or can I use the inbuilt 16GB space which the phone comes with.
2. Where should I download it from ? I can download it either from goo. im where the file name is "cm-10.2-20131025-UNOFFICIAL-janice.zip"or the link provided by th3cr0w where the file name is "cm-10.2-20131118-UNOFFICIAL-janice.zip ". As per my understanding "cm-10.2-20131118-UNOFFICIAL-janice.zip" is the latest nightly. So can I use the latest nightly directly or do I need to first install first from "cm-10.2-20131025-UNOFFICIAL-janice.zip" ?
3. In the last line of your reply you mentioned "But @kckinn if you want to use anything else, you will need to flash stock JB. You can't install any stock ROM or previous CM from CM10.2 (some partition is changed, so classic instalation or using backup will not work).".
I could not understand what you meant. Do you mean to say I need to flash stock rom before trying to install CM 10.2 or do you mean to say I will have to flash stock rom incase I want to revert to samsung JB?
I actually dont know what is meant by 'flash'. I once updated to gingerbread on an old galaxy phone which came with froyo using ODIN. Is that what is called 'flashing"

1. External storage is SD card that you put in your phone, not internal storage.
2. Search CM10.2 thread for that cm-10.2-20131118-UNOFFICIAL-janice.zip, no need to install previous one.
3. That is if you want to go back to stock JB or any other ROM. Flashing = installing. Yeah, just like that, with Odin. (beware, do not use firmware for NON P version, you have P version as I see (16GB)). And you might need to change tee folder look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2191628
I know it is pain in the... But nothing is easy in life.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I will try the process tomorrow after getting a SD card.
My phone is not the "P" version with NFC. Its the normal I 9070 but it came with 16GB.

Ok, than forget that tee thing.
I also would like to go over to CM10.2. Currently on CoCore 8.2, but I am a little confused if I can flash CM over that. I see in the above discussion that it's desirable, but in post #2 of the CoCore thread, it says that CoCore only works with stock firmware:
Quote:
Q: What firmware does this kernel support?
A: All ROM bases on stock firmwares, all stock firmwares.
So, I'm not sure if i should go back to stock 4.1.2 and root it or go ahead with CoCore installed.
And, I understand from the above discussion that 4.1.2 doesn't need to be rooted to install CM, but of course it does have to be rooted to install CWM (or CoCore), as well as to use Titanium Backup (that's how I restore my apps). Where do I find CWM for this ROM/this device if I have to remove CoCore?
One more thing, I have 23 toggles installed on top of CoCore. Will they go away or interfere with CM10.2?

[Q] help install cyanogenmod 10.1

Hi, have a rooted P990, did manage to install MIUI but wants Cyanogenmod. The only Cyanogenmod i can install is with the Progmaq-default-cm10 But i cant get into recovery after that install. If i use AIO and do a repartition and delete all then i can install CWM or TWR recovery, but i cant install ROM from any of them. TWR say that there isnt any OS on phone, CWM only goea back into recovery when reboot. Should i install the boot.img file on the phone, if yes, how do i do it?
What does CWM say after you installed a ROM, is there any error message?
Are you using old or new bootloader? Did you make sure to use a ROM that is suitable for your bootloader? You can use AIO to change the bootloader type.
