Do you install through custom recovery?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

In case anyone had any doubts, the name and checksum on the zip file is indeed the same as the update on Google's servers so it's all good. I don't use a custom recovery but stock recovery works fine if you sideload from Android 4.4.1 to 4.4.2 as I did.

I installed through twrp. Stock rooted. No problem.

On the Android with red exclamation mark screen, you need to hold the power button in and quickly press (not hold) the volume up key to access the stock recovery menu.

Do a Google search for "How to sideload Kitkat 4.4.1 on the Nexus 5" and follow the instructions from Samuel Oh. He explains it all clearly.

Tried to flash 4.2 to 4.2.2 and installation aborted. Stock rooted here

I never got the 4.4.1 update and just got 4.4.2 ota by doing the clear Google services framework cache, force stop, then cleared cache again, check for update. And here it is.

I got the 4.4.2 update, coming from stock 4.4 no root, just plain stock. DIdn't have to clear anything, just popped up.

Yeah, my n10 just got the update immediately (4.4.2), I probably could have just waited, but meh

Damn this shouldn't be such a pain to do a simple update on a stock rooted phone.

this for me :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48324367&postcount=213

Yep I meant 4.4 to 4.4.2. Just no luck doesn't work at all. Tried from recovery and side load and removing root and installing stock recovery and nothing works. If I do it from the system update it says rebooting in 10 seconds then counts down and does nothing.

with me after the OTA download 4.4.2.zip and flash pops up from the TWRP: Failed

[Q] software update

the problem is your "unlocked" bootloader. you can only get OTA updates with a "relocked" or "locked" bootloader.
just use fastboot and type in "fastboot oem lock" and it should work if your still on stock-rom.
Would it be named "OTA_WL_JB_spcs_wwe".zip

The OTA. I havent downloaded any roms at all I'm still on stock
Sent from my HTCONE using xda premium
so you've downloaded a zip-file which contains the OTA update, right? if yes, you'd just have to flash this file in your recovery.
As I understand it, Your phone has a OTA available via [Settings - About - Software Updates]
You have downloaded and tried to install - but it boots the custom recovery instead of the stock recovery.
To fix this you would need to install a stock recovery.
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2373111
Hope that was what you was after.

but i agree with SolCenva, flash stock recovery, lock your bootloader and it must work..

[Q] [T-Mo] Cannot flash recovery

After unlocking my bootloader, I am trying to flash CWM recovery. However after flashing CWM recovery, while in fastboot mode, when I select the recovery option in fastboot mode it just restarts the device.
Has anyone else seen this problem? Could there be something I am doing wrong that is causing this to occur?
Are you using vol up to select or pwr? I think when selecting recovery the select button Is vol up instead of pwr.

I clearly can't read, thank you for pointing this out. It is now working properly.
Bootloaders are clearly confusing and scary places to spend time on your phone...they demand your full attention and the more you read and understand before you get in there the better.
Glad you figured it out!

Flash a custom recovery through fastboot, then you can easily install SU through one of the many flashable packages.
I think the CWM installer even has the option to root the first time you boot to it. I had the SuperSU.zip lying around, so I just threw that on my internal card in case it's ever needed again. Originally my unlock code wasn't in Motorolas database, so it took a bit of talking with CS to finally get my unlock code. It sounds like they've uploaded all of the device_ids since then though, so you should be good to go.

To root after. Just flash cwm, boot into recovery and then select reboot. This then gives you the option to delete recovery file and also root

Kit Kat KRT16S rolling out

I just got an OTA.
http://android.clients.google.com/p...signed-nakasi-KRT16S-from-KRT16O.3aad414b.zip
Changelog: https://funkyandroid.com/aosp-KRT16O-KRT16S.html
My initial analysis.. It's tiny, 1.5 megs large. It's adding the recovery-from-boot.p stuff back, something I think disappeared in like 4.3 or so, so this will wipe out custom recovery when booted. Just remove the file from /system and re-flash recovery.
Bunch of files are patched, including build.prop for build info but it's still 4.4. No kernel change.
You'll have to re-root, as usual. This, with the recovery wipe, means you'll be using fastboot to flash recovery, re-flash supersu, etc.
AdAway is saying it can't remount /system. I didn't have this problem previously, so something might have changed here. I can do it manually in adb but AdAway keeps failing to do it itself.
Any idea what it does?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4
I just got the exact same thing! It looks like a patch to the original 4.4 OTA.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Analyzing, although I'm not the best at this. Looks like it's enabling the recovery-from-boot.p again, something that seemed to disappear in like 4.3. Will over-write custom recovery, so we'll have to delete the file from /system and re-flash CWM/TWRP.
It's patching a large number of other files, but I couldn't guess what it's doing. I'm sure someone else could.
It flashed fast enough on my system, I'll update if it changed to 4.4.1 or anything like that.
I've flashed the update KRT16S and recovery not wiped. Twrp still there and working.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD
My recovery is gone after that little update. I even tried reflashing it using fastboot and it was not installed after a reboot again so something is writing over TWRP on a reboot for me.

I also got the OTA update today. It blasted away TWRP and SU. Simple process to reload both.
BTW... the KRT16O update files no longer appear for download on the Nexus Factory Image page on Google, replaced with KRT16S.
ADAway has no problem for me. adaway 2.3 with superSU1.69. Both recovery image and supersu need to reinstall again.
I flashed stock recovery and unrooted just to be safe, then used ADB sideload to apply the update. All went well. I'm letting it sit for a while before flashing TWRP and installing SuperSU.......

The exact same thing happened to me when I tried to install the JWR66Y-to-KRT16O. I got lucky this time. Whew!
You could try downloading the full factory image from Google, extract the image files, and use fastboot flash. I would do that with boot.img and system.img
If that fails, you probably have something inside the system files that isn't stock.

2 - the update - https://mega.co.nz/#!5gE1xRaY!5P3OWYc053qFnNS2ynA1LOUtE6uHNLiUze-sKwF1hgY

5- RECOVERY (after rebooting into updated rooted system) - for TWRP download - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jmz.soft.twrpmanager
Open, advanced, install recovery/twrp.
GOLDEN RULE!! - always make a backup before flashing anything!
*If you're COMPLETELY STOCK system wise but JUST ROOTED with custom recovery flash 2 then 3 then reboot system
*If you've MODIFIED the SYSTEM (deleted apps etc) (or are just unsure of what option) then flash 1, reboot system, then flash 2 then 3 and reboot system
*If you're completely STOCK then.....
Download 4 and unzip. (download 2 and place in the unzipped folder with all the files in)
And click the open command option.
Plug your phone in with usb debugging on and type 'adb devices' and enter ... It should return with a load of numbers..
Then type 'adb reboot bootloader' and enter, your phone will now reboot.
Use the volume keys to select recovery and press power button,
At the dead Android press power and volume up together quickly
Now you're in recovery.. Use the volume keys and find update from adb and press the power button to select.
Now back in the command window type 'adb sideload 422.zip' and hit enter
Once completed hit reboot system now
Hope this helps the millions of people asking the same question
