Open, advanced, install recovery/twrp.
GOLDEN RULE!! - always make a backup before flashing anything!
*If you're COMPLETELY STOCK system wise but JUST ROOTED with custom recovery flash 2 then 3 then reboot system
*If you've MODIFIED the SYSTEM (deleted apps etc) (or are just unsure of what option) then flash 1, reboot system, then flash 2 then 3 and reboot system
*If you're completely STOCK then.....
Download 4 and unzip. (download 2 and place in the unzipped folder with all the files in)
And click the open command option.
Plug your phone in with usb debugging on and type 'adb devices' and enter ... It should return with a load of numbers..
Then type 'adb reboot bootloader' and enter, your phone will now reboot.
Use the volume keys to select recovery and press power button,
At the dead Android press power and volume up together quickly
Now you're in recovery.. Use the volume keys and find update from adb and press the power button to select.
Now back in the command window type 'adb sideload 422.zip' and hit enter
Once completed hit reboot system now

If completely stock, you can't flash from stock recovery anymore. You need to do ADB SIDELOAD. Look on here or just google it. It's pretty quick and painless.

I went a head and flashed 1 first and that fixed the problem so something must have changed.

Hi, thanks for the thread. My situation:

I just got an OTA.
http://android.clients.google.com/p...signed-nakasi-KRT16S-from-KRT16O.3aad414b.zip
Changelog: https://funkyandroid.com/aosp-KRT16O-KRT16S.html
My initial analysis.. It's tiny, 1.5 megs large. It's adding the recovery-from-boot.p stuff back, something I think disappeared in like 4.3 or so, so this will wipe out custom recovery when booted. Just remove the file from /system and re-flash recovery.
Bunch of files are patched, including build.prop for build info but it's still 4.4. No kernel change.
You'll have to re-root, as usual. This, with the recovery wipe, means you'll be using fastboot to flash recovery, re-flash supersu, etc.
AdAway is saying it can't remount /system. I didn't have this problem previously, so something might have changed here. I can do it manually in adb but AdAway keeps failing to do it itself.
Any idea what it does?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4
I just got the exact same thing! It looks like a patch to the original 4.4 OTA.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Analyzing, although I'm not the best at this. Looks like it's enabling the recovery-from-boot.p again, something that seemed to disappear in like 4.3. Will over-write custom recovery, so we'll have to delete the file from /system and re-flash CWM/TWRP.
It's patching a large number of other files, but I couldn't guess what it's doing. I'm sure someone else could.
It flashed fast enough on my system, I'll update if it changed to 4.4.1 or anything like that.
I've flashed the update KRT16S and recovery not wiped. Twrp still there and working.

My recovery is gone after that little update. I even tried reflashing it using fastboot and it was not installed after a reboot again so something is writing over TWRP on a reboot for me.

I also got the OTA update today. It blasted away TWRP and SU. Simple process to reload both.
BTW... the KRT16O update files no longer appear for download on the Nexus Factory Image page on Google, replaced with KRT16S.
ADAway has no problem for me. adaway 2.3 with superSU1.69. Both recovery image and supersu need to reinstall again.
I flashed stock recovery and unrooted just to be safe, then used ADB sideload to apply the update. All went well. I'm letting it sit for a while before flashing TWRP and installing SuperSU.......

The exact same thing happened to me when I tried to install the JWR66Y-to-KRT16O. I got lucky this time. Whew!
You could try downloading the full factory image from Google, extract the image files, and use fastboot flash. I would do that with boot.img and system.img
If that fails, you probably have something inside the system files that isn't stock.

In case anyone had any doubts, the name and checksum on the zip file is indeed the same as the update on Google's servers so it's all good. I don't use a custom recovery but stock recovery works fine if you sideload from Android 4.4.1 to 4.4.2 as I did.

You can't flash the stock firmware from cwm. You need to fastboot flash the stock recovery from droid basement and then extract the stock zip onto your internal card and boot that way. Alternatively you could just flash my stock ROM in the Dev section.
Why do you want to go back to pure stock?
Wow lol I spend hours trying to flash through CWM. thank u very much sdbags. I wanted to revert back because, lol my WiFi was acting wiered with the ROM. some apps like "showbox" worked fine with stock, but with cromi it would go very slow and take really long to load a list of movies or shows. Why don't you just flash my Asus Stock ROM first? It's 99.9% the Asus files - just with ROOT added.
I haven't tested the following but if you MUST flash the Asus Stock from a PC you would do it using the following. I won't take any responsibility if you brick and you do this at your own risk. Personally if I were you I wouldn't do it this way as flashing my Asus Stock will do EXACTLY the same. Note that the below instructions are for 4.2.2. Be warned - it will erase the bootloader so if it doesn't flash properly you will brick permanently.

My understand is that it should leave the bootloader unlocked. It will replace the recovery, radio and other system partitions. If you removed anything from the /system/apps folder then I think it will fail/abort install. I've removed some so I need/want to RSD back to stock and then update but if I do then I'll lose root which I use.
Yes, and with SELinux and some other enhancements in KitKat I wouldn't even take a future root for granted.

Posting updates on how to use this thru the stock recovery.
This is how it is supposed to be used:
1 - Flash LATEST stock SBF of JB thru RSD. (Android 4.1.2
Blur_Version.98.30.1.XT907.Verizon.en.US)
2 - After RSD flash reboot phone on stock recovery and proceed to install update from SD card, here select the file that is provided at the beginning of the thread.
3 - After this first flash completes, phone is going to reboot in recovery again, to open the menu of this specific recovery, the combo of the buttons is power + vol up.
4 - proceed to install from sd card again and select the same file that you selected on the second step.
5 - Wait for it to finish
6 - Wipe data/factory reset
7 - Select restart system, Phone will restart in KK, enjoy guys.
Keep in mind that you have to follow the explanation at the beggining of the thread or this one, if you dont follow this steps like this, you wont be able to install this update or you wont be able to finish installing the update.

My understanding is you can retain some root functionality using SuperSU Pro's Survival Mode. I believe you'll still lose R/W capability.
The best approach would be to unlock your bootloader. I've heard some success with custom recovery, though stock recovery would be best bet.

my bootloader has unlock. and does it mean I can have root permission after I flash the stock zip package?
OK here it is, black and white and very simple:
Bootloader Locked - NO ROOT, NO CUSTOM RECOVERY.
Bootloader Unlocked - CWM Recovery and FULL ROOT with SuperSu.
That's it, no if ands or buts.

Hey guys and gals,
I have recently taken delivery of my shiny new nexus 6,and rooted using mskips's android toolkit, unlocked bootloader and flashed twrp last night. I am not home at the moment, and just finished work and realised the system has replaced my custom recovery with the stock recovery but I am still rooted. What gives? I downloaded the latest chroma rom ready to flash only to find I'm running a stock recovery and no pc for a few days. Would a factory reset revert the handset to fully out of the box unmodified settings for uodates.?

theres a file that you need to delete before you reboot the first time, or it will replace your custom recovery with stock. OR, when flashing, you used the word boot instead of flash. boot only boots it one time.
