[Q] Exchange Contacts - Moto X Q&A

I maintain my contacts in Exchange. When I got my moto x (was on a Bionic previously) it added ALL my contacts, including just email addresses. So I have 700 contacts in there. I don't see a way to get rid of all this extra crap that shows up in the People app. When I open Outlook and go into People, only my real contacts are there. Any one know how I can get my Moto X to show me JUST these contacts and not all this other crap?
Thanks!

Going off memory (phone upstairs and to lazy to go get it) but
you can't control what syncs, but there is an option in the Captivate contacts to only show contacts with phone numbers.

Go to your contacts on gmail and move anyone you don't synced to your phone out of the "My Contacts" group.
this will still allow me to sync them to the phone?
i did realize "my contacts" does include many email addy's.
Gmail used to add all contacts to the My Contacts group including those that you just email without you specifically adding them, it no longer does that but you do need to go through the My Contacts group in Gmail and uncheck all the ones you don't want synced from the My Contacts group. They will just then be available under Other Contacts I believe in Gmail and not synced.
Stock the Captivate won't currently sync just My Contacts. Cognition gives you the option to hide the others. (In contacts>menu>more>display options>google then select which groups to display

Got an amateurish question about contacts and syncing

The simple question would be: what's the best way to sync all my GMail and phone contacts and have them be accessable through both platforms? How do you organize your contacts?
The more detailed explanation is as follows:
I use GMail a lot and have many contacts saved on my gmail.
I also have roughly 400 contacts (phone numbers only) saved on my HTC One.
What's the best way for me to sync the two? Some of the GMail contacts are also contacts on my phone.
I tried playing around with the sync options but ended up transfering ALL past e-mailed contacts to my phone. For example, I've e-mailed college professors 5 years ago one time about class and somehow their e-mails were synced to my phone as new contacts. It was a mess to clean that all up. And how would I prevent future e-mailed contacts from being saved to my phone?
At the moment the phonebook on my HTC One is set to only display contacts from my phone itself (so I don't see the contacts from GMail).
Move all your contacts to Google: https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/?tab=Cm#contacts
That way it will backup your contacts as well as sync them to any device with your Google account.
Personally I have my phonebook set to only show Google so I only see these contacts.
additionally, do all your contacts cleanup in your pc browser on your Gmail account

[Q] MightyText contact names not displaying

I love MightyText and used to use it all the time on my Galaxy Nexus. I pull contacts from two accounts: my gmail and my Exchange server. It all worked fine, numbers and names came through just fine.
When I switched to Moto X a long while ago, MightyText could no longer find the contact names of my Exchange contacts. Gmail contacts were fine, but no Exchange contacts. I followed their advice and wiped the cache on the web client, then refreshed, but it didn't help. MT support said that they only pull contacts from the phone's local storage. But why does it work for gmail, but not my Exchange contacts, which seem to be stored locally as well? Why did it work for my GN, but not my Moto X?
Plus, Motorola Connect can find all the names on my phone. I'd use it, but it's so finicky and can't do groups or mms.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any solutions or ideas?

Previously Contacted Persons Syncing as "Contacts"

This has been driving my crazy since I got the phone, and I thought it was a combination having multiple email accounts set up (gmail, @Live, @aol, @corporate, etc.). However, I've cleaned out my contacts from my non-Gmail list, and still have this issue.
The issue being:
I have my Gmail synced from all-time, so from 2008 or whatever it was. When I compose an email in any of apps (Outlook, AOL, Exchange, Gmail, etc.), ANYONE who I've ever emailed with on my Gmail account will pop up as a contact. So if I begin to type my friend's name in "Michael", rather than having 3 Michaels pop up, I have about 50 "Mi..."s pop up.
Anyone have any clue how I can remedy this so that only the 150 people or so I have as actual contacts will popup instead?
Thanks!
Anyone? I hope the solution isn't "root"!
If you go into your contacts, bring up your menu click contacts to display. go to customize and uncheck "all other contacts". If I have it checked under my Gmail accounts I have 1484 contacts, Everyone I have ever sent/got an email too/from, Craigslist addresses, mailing lists, spammers, etc. unchecked I have 160. I could be mistaken but I vaguely remember an option on the gmail webmail client settings (years ago) to add anyone you talked to into your contact list. On my old note 2 there was an option to only display contacts with phone numbers but I can't find a similar option on the turbo though so you may still have a few unwanted ones if you have email only contacts.
Seemed to have worked, thanks! Now working on getting my Exchange to remove some unwanted contacts, but this was huge!!!
Thanks!!!
No sweat, glad it helped!

Strange Contact Issue

I have a client that has a Droid Turbo and is syncing his contacts with an Exchange Server. He has about 500 contacts in Outlook on his computer but when it syncs with the Droid he has about 4000.
I can not figure out where they are coming from. I did notice the extra contacts are coming from contact groups but I searched everywhere in Outlook and can not find them. I also synced by Note 4 to his account and only had 500 contacts. My phone did not bring in any groups.
Any ideas?

Check out my thread about a similar issue. Maybe this answers it... A solution would be great though haha
I am pretty sure you have an option to sync contacts when setting up the account. Is the device rooted? If so:
flash an image that has xposed installed and get that set up.
Download greenify
click the top right corner and go to experimental features
scroll down and enable reveal hidden sync
go to settings app
go to account section and then e-mail account
click the first button that tells you when the last sync was performed (not account settings)
The first option should be " * Contacts" which could be disabled
Its a long workaround but if you already have xposed and greenify like I did then it just a couple of clicks. You could also first try to remove the account and then set it up again, but I forget if that was really an option during setup or not
