Have been running Unjust's CM11 version and I must say I think it's the best ROM I've ever used. Super smooth and quick. That being said the browser has quirks so I went about finding a replacement.
After trying all of them several times I tried "Naked Browser". It's ugly as sin and missing a few features, but man it's blazing fast. Very small footprint as well. Just thought I would throw it out there for some that it might help....(4.3 & 4.4 users especially).

Can you give us a rundown of the others you tried and what maybe was your main pros & cons of them?
I've always thought chrome was nice but way to much memory hog for 4.2.x and up ROMs.
.
Well to be honest my main reasoning came down to 2 basic things. Number one being speed. In my limited use the Naked Browser is very basic and speedy. None of the others, even Opera Mini, seem as quick to me.
Number 2 reason is the way it looks on a smaller screened device. And by that I mean I hate, I hate, having to constantly pinch and zoom to get the pages "optimized" upon every click. Naked's pages come up in a manner that is already usable. And when you need to zoom you have the option of using zoom buttons...a la' the old Google Maps style. Much better for me personally.
And as a bonus the apps' footprint is under 200kb.
I haven't used it long personally. But so far I'm really liking it. Hope this helps!

Also...
I hate saying and using the term "outdated", as my Fassy has been an excellent device for me but technically that's what it is now. If it wasn't outdated and had more horsepower I would probably use the stock browser, Chrome, or Next Browser. I like them as well. But they don't play nice with a Fassy running 4.2+ in my experience.

I seem to get along just fine with chrome on my phone. It's a bit slow but it works
Quick update:
After using this browser some more I feel it has great potential. Have had a few glitchy moments depending on what I'm doing, and on certain webpages. I find myself using this browser as well as waffling back and forth to Opera Mini.
If you are ok with a feature rich browser and don't mind it being a little slow than these options probably won't serve you well. I however, hate lag or slowness of any kind. If you're like me give both these options a try. Naked is fast and occasionally glitchy. Opera Mini is nearly as fast, more polished, and has more features. Both stomp the stock browser running newer 4.2+ ROMs on the Fassy. Hope this helps some people. -Thanks

watching youtube problem
hi Thanks for this browser.
But i am facing a problem, when i watch a youtube video in fullscreen and try to exit fullscreen, the browser does not exit. the large video keeps playing in the background of the browser.
Kindly fix it or tell me how to do it.
One more thing, can you think of changing the name from 'Naked' to something else?

All,
I tried Dolphin HD browser and it was really great. Its got lot of innovative features. But its not much of use on Galaxy S i guess, because within minutes of using it bcomes horribly slow. Each tap almost takes seconds for the app to respond. Even the scrolling is equally bad.
I really dont want to uninstall this browser. Does anybody have any tweaks to make it usable ? Do all galaxy S users feel the same or it works okay on others.
Any comments will be helpful.
yes, don't use dolphin
use skyfire, it is the fastest one
2nd fast is opera mini
According to the maker of Dolphin it had some issues in the later builds. But now it is more focused on speed improvements.
Opera is good. Hasn't tested skyfire on android. Didn't like it much all those years ago on PPC. The issue with Opera is when u use it for rapidshare or megadownload for instance (when u get the count down to the link) it is not updating. Probably because of the proxy to Opera. Turning this off hasn't worked for me.
Good luck!
Wow, if the makes of dolphin really work on improving the speed, I will be one happy camper.
Haven't uninstalled dolphin yet, hoping for a fix to come soon.

dolphin is one heck of a good browser, but the speed is horrible
my 10 years old Palm Treo loads faster than that
and the Treo was known to have the worse browser on the planet at that time

Loved my Treo :-D
Guys, I tried Skyfire. Many people suggested that its very fast and all for Galaxy.
however, I am seeing the same sluggishness with Skyfire as well. The pages load fast but the browser acts very slugish. The taps dont respond well, the scrolling gets held up at places etc.
Still searching for a better stock browser replacement.
Anybody?
What's wrong with the stock one? I find it very good!!
Tried xscope? Best non proxy browser imho

Dolphin update: v 3.1.1
It's as smooth as Silk. Amazing improvement. NOW, it is the best I can say.

Yes the new version of Dolphin HD has much better performance. Now I'm happy to use it as my default browser
Have just installed the latest version and after spending a little time with it, I think it's better than opera for me
From my Galaxy S loonie-phone
3.1.1 ?? I can only find 3.0 ?!?
Its faster but I'm just not used to it, I think I'm too used to Xscope
Yeah, How do I acquire dolphin browser hd 3.1.1 ? Market shows 3.0 to be the latest...
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I'm sure he uses just dolphin browser not dolphin browser HD.
Dolphin browsers latest version is 3.1.1 but HDs latest version 3.0.

Oh, I see... That makes more sense.... Well, does that mean that the regular dolphin browser is better than dolphin browser hd ?
P.S. I didn't find dolphin browser hd 3.0 any faster than 2.x as opposed to how it's advertised. Good browser all over, but I didn't notice any major (performance) improvements. Is it just me ?

Sorry after reading the post I went back to see market and appbrain. They both show 3.0 only. I might have seen just the dolphin brower I guess. BUT, I just upgraded the HD browser from market and I am sure I have dolphin HD. I see a nice HD on my icon.
The speed and the general handling is completely different and smooth now. The performance improvement is easily notice able
Sorry for all the confusion guys, I guess was just to excited seeing the speed.

Continuing from my previous post, are you guys saying that you have upgraded to latest version yesterday and stol not seeing the improvements?
If you haven't, I suggest you upgrade.market will show you that an upgrade is available for them.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I have upgraded to 3.0 but it still is kinda slow. Although I haven't tested it with wifi cause my connection is down.
Still the built in browser is faster than dolphin HD with 3g.
I used only dolphin hd when I had desire and really liked it but in galaxy it is just too slow.
I have JM2 installed if it makes any difference...
I know that everyone will have a personal opinion and preference (not to mention that this question has probably been done to death); but with the latest GB update/ROM, 2.2 roms and so forth...At this point in development, is the stock browser just as good/fast as 3rd party ones (specifically sykfire and opera mini).
I am updated to the 1/28 Gingerbread, and while the stock is ok, I still prefer Dolphin. I have a difficult time exiting out of stock (the back key just pages back, does not exit), and downloads don't always seem to complete in the stock browser for me. Just my 2 cents.
Yeah I figure it really depends on the user's needs/wants. I read this interesting review, (tried to post the link but not allowed yet :-( and it looks like skyfire is the best overall (supposedly plays flash on non-flash devices pretty well)
Miren is the best.
Skyfire for Flash video conversion support. Also a good system for tabs and a great browser overall.
LATE EDIT: I read the topic wrong, I thought it was like a poll... Umm, the stock is still nowhere near as good as Skyfire or Dolphin.
I use dolphins mini.
ive used xscope for quite a while and nothing else ever really feels right when i try it
I like miren as well.

I'm using Opera atm but I don't like that there is no pinch to zoom or text formatting when I zoom in. It's still much better than stock, maybe I'll check out dolphin or miren

Miren seems like a really good browser. I like it.
Was using Opera now Dolphin is my primary, however a bit frustrated with not being able to set my home page. They all run rather slow to open up and are sluggish on my phone. Web pages are a pain in the *** on all of them. Either too small or too big.

Has anyone tried this yet? Been using since last night and I have to say... wow. It's what the android browser should've been. Opera 10 was smooth, but this is even better with flash support now. Runs buttery smooth (iPhone like... smoother than any other android browser) even when I'm underclocked to 800mhz =)
Yes, better than the laggy stock browser, more smooth and support flash, for me the better mobile browser with safari.
you know yes....! Opera - need to be original browser in Nexus S
I'm liking it a lot more.
Tried it and uninstalled within half an hour, word-breaking for Thai characters looks terrible. Super lag compared to Dolphin Mini & stock browser...
I dont seem to get any reactions to anything I touch on webpages:S?
Wait reboot and fix permissions sorted it...BEST BROWSER TO DATE! I use the psx scene site as a benchmark which one dolphin and stock lags like a *****! On opera its perfect..very very smooth!

I love this browser as well, but some of the pages don't look like they should. Like m.db.no and mobil.aftenposten.no. (these pages are in Norwegian, but you'll see what I'm talking about). Any tips? I would like the mobile version, not the desktop one.

It's the old-mobile version of Google. You have to change your user-agent to default Android browser or iPhone browser etc. to see proper mobile version of Google.
what should I put for the user agent in the opera:config to get the android user agent?

Ya that is quite nice. I've used previous versions and none of them were quite perfect but this might just do the trick. Its quite a nice piece of kit, if I'm honest. I use Bank of America and can't use their mobile site in my area or even load their full site on the standard browser for reasons unknown to God himself but this using the spoofing lets me do just that which makes it completely worth its weight in Gold.
The lack of a user-agent preference in the settings area is a big downside. The browser's fast, but that's a setting that should be easily accessible. Going to the config page address and what-not is a pain in the ass.
I actually started using the stock Samsung browser after I heard a reviewer include it in their video review under the software review section.
I actually strongly prefer it to chrome. The back/forward and bookmark buttons on the bottom that auto hide for full screen browsing are clutch. Also, the quick dial page, which at first glance seems to be redundant considering there is a bookmarks tab, but it actually is a super fast way to go through a bunch of frequently visited sites very quickly.
I also prefer how it brings up click able lists on the bottom of the screen rather than in a pop-up in the middle of the screen.
I haven't used a stock browser since safari on my old iPhone. Discuss.

No thanks. That thing is ugly and pain to navigate. Not to mention, good luck getting updates for security/bug fixes in a timely fashion, as is the case for any stock browser. Chrome keeps everything synced and easily accessible between devices, so it's much more useful for me. To each their own, though

Yes. I've traditionally used Chrome, but have started using the stock browser lately. I do like the way Chrome syncs bookmarks, but the stock browser so much easier to navigate. I just wish there was a way to get ride of the built-in bookmarks.

I wouldn't know personally, but I'm sure it is. Third party browsers get regular updates for security vulnerabilities and bug fixes, while stock browsers have traditionally taken much, much longer to get updates rolled out. That and the fact that Chrome makes everything so much easier is why I'll never use a stock browser again.

I like the s5 browser better then chrome as well. But I don't use chrome on my mac either, I use Fire Fox. Chrome just can't do all the things I want it to do. Like online Odin! Fire fox works great. On a side note, Safari won't do online Odin either.

I'll stick with Dolphin. It's usually one of the first apps I download when I get a new phone/flash a new ROM. I personally find it so much easier to use than any other mobile browser especially the stock Samsung browser. The stock browser is very well thought out and polished, not not to mention snappy. I'd choose Firefox as my 3rd party browser over the Google Chrome botnet any day.
I typically use chrome primarily because I can sync between my devices, but this conversation is making me take a second look at the stock browser. I'll play around with it today.
Hi all,
Is it just me or is this phone laggy/choppy while browsing, especially in the XDA website?
I'm coming from an m8 which seemed a lot smoother than touchwiz. Any tips on how to smooth this out? Thanks
I've been doing many tests actually trying to force it to lag. So, far I've been unsuccessful in the challenges.
Can you give specifics on what it's doing? Is it just when browsing the Web? Or also seen laggy when browsing around the screens? Are other apps laggy or do they seem fine?
Seems like its more with browsing, it can be very choppy at times. The apps seem fine.

Have you tried using different browsers? I haven't had any issues so far with browsing using the stock browser. Granted Verizon took the Samsung browser away and a lot of people seem upset by this.
Try downloading different browsers and see if there's any difference. If not I'd reset and if still no dice return it.
If there is a specific website they is laggy you may want to mention it so others can check.
For instance, cnn.com seems to always be a little crappy on chrome mobile for me. Including on this phone.
I don't get lag or choppiness when on the TouchWiz home. however, I noticed it gets a little choppy when I use the Google home launcher instead.
