Who else prefers the stock browser to Chrome? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 5

I actually started using the stock Samsung browser after I heard a reviewer include it in their video review under the software review section.
I actually strongly prefer it to chrome. The back/forward and bookmark buttons on the bottom that auto hide for full screen browsing are clutch. Also, the quick dial page, which at first glance seems to be redundant considering there is a bookmarks tab, but it actually is a super fast way to go through a bunch of frequently visited sites very quickly.
I also prefer how it brings up click able lists on the bottom of the screen rather than in a pop-up in the middle of the screen.
I haven't used a stock browser since safari on my old iPhone. Discuss.

No thanks. That thing is ugly and pain to navigate. Not to mention, good luck getting updates for security/bug fixes in a timely fashion, as is the case for any stock browser. Chrome keeps everything synced and easily accessible between devices, so it's much more useful for me. To each their own, though

Yes. I've traditionally used Chrome, but have started using the stock browser lately. I do like the way Chrome syncs bookmarks, but the stock browser so much easier to navigate. I just wish there was a way to get ride of the built-in bookmarks.

I wouldn't know personally, but I'm sure it is. Third party browsers get regular updates for security vulnerabilities and bug fixes, while stock browsers have traditionally taken much, much longer to get updates rolled out. That and the fact that Chrome makes everything so much easier is why I'll never use a stock browser again.

I like the s5 browser better then chrome as well. But I don't use chrome on my mac either, I use Fire Fox. Chrome just can't do all the things I want it to do. Like online Odin! Fire fox works great. On a side note, Safari won't do online Odin either.

I'll stick with Dolphin. It's usually one of the first apps I download when I get a new phone/flash a new ROM. I personally find it so much easier to use than any other mobile browser especially the stock Samsung browser. I hadn't even tried Chrome til I just read this thread and when I opened it there was 2 boxes at the top of the screen that were twitching.
Too each his own though.

I have typically always used the stock browsers, I am not a fan of chrome. I use FF now.

You think the stock browser is too insecure?

The stock browser is very well thought out and polished, not not to mention snappy. I'd choose Firefox as my 3rd party browser over the Google Chrome botnet any day.

I typically use chrome primarily because I can sync between my devices, but this conversation is making me take a second look at the stock browser. I'll play around with it today.

The xScope browser. After reading about it here earlier today I grabbed it and can't believe how it shows the ability of this tablet. I set the browsing agent as a "computer" and every site I've checked works flawlessly, including those with a lot of flash that didn't work before. Youtube videos look amazing and the speed is second to none.
The reason I wanted to mention it here is because so many people are working hard to make this tab the best it can be and I thought this shows what we have to work with. Personally this is going to allow me to do a lot more business work and makes the purchase a great move for me!
Sorry for getting a little over excited.

ah ok hopefully its fixed by the time i get my tablet since i do use the app alot.
I really didn't feel this thread needed to be moved. It's relevant to those of us working non-stop on the roms like TNT. It's important that we know what apps are making the most of the roms as a lot can be learned from that. I wasn't simply looking to review the app.
People love Dolphin and I don't know why. I have been using Xscope since it was free and I even paid for it now that it isn't and it just gets better with every update. It blows the other browsers out of the water!

On the contrary, this is related to a browser APP, which can be used regardless of which ROM is on your gTAB. Apps is the perfect forum for this post.

You're right had it been app review, which it wasn't. I was addressing those of us using certain roms.
Just a heads up. When I last used Skyfire the webpages were all generated on their servers. So unless things have changed I'd avoid using it for things like financial transactions.

Don't want to go on anymore about this too much, but this absolutely belongs in apps. You didn't say anything specific about a ROM, or development. You did give an app review about how it runs on this device. There currently is a lot of app related posts coming into development pushing down threads, and our mod is rightly so moving them.
On another note, I am on the list of of people who don't understand the hype on Dolphin and love xScope. I encourage everyone to try it.
Love loading webpages up, then hitting menu to go fullscreen. The toggle makes it great. Also nice swiping between tabs.
Can any one tell me where to find the xScope browser. Of course the crappy gmarket site the gtab has built in doesn't carry it.
I like XScope 6 a lot. Today I was able to watch a rental movie (from Amazon digital store) at full screen and no issues at all. The browser agent was set to "computer" with XScope and Amazon who needs the iTunes store?

[Q] Best Android Browser?

I know that everyone will have a personal opinion and preference (not to mention that this question has probably been done to death); but with the latest GB update/ROM, 2.2 roms and so forth...At this point in development, is the stock browser just as good/fast as 3rd party ones (specifically sykfire and opera mini).
I am updated to the 1/28 Gingerbread, and while the stock is ok, I still prefer Dolphin. I have a difficult time exiting out of stock (the back key just pages back, does not exit), and downloads don't always seem to complete in the stock browser for me. Just my 2 cents.
Yeah I figure it really depends on the user's needs/wants. I read this interesting review, (tried to post the link but not allowed yet :-( and it looks like skyfire is the best overall (supposedly plays flash on non-flash devices pretty well)
Miren is the best.
Skyfire for Flash video conversion support. Also a good system for tabs and a great browser overall.
LATE EDIT: I read the topic wrong, I thought it was like a poll... Umm, the stock is still nowhere near as good as Skyfire or Dolphin.
I use dolphins mini.
ive used xscope for quite a while and nothing else ever really feels right when i try it
I like miren as well.

Actually, with regards to embedded videos, it does not seem to work anymore for those that I have in my Pocket articles.
Just a "Couldn't load plug-in" error message.
But other than that, i think the new dialer does mirror my usage style of not keying in numbers all the time, but just that few contacts. nice feature there.

Yes but you're not going to like it. Uninstall Google Search completely from your device, then install the AOSP launcher from CM11 rom, it's the same as Google launcher without the Google Now integration. It doesn't gone an extra row for home screen either, but it does show more apps in the drawer.

Yes the dialer has been my main frustration for a long time, having no t9 support. When it did, the limited display of 3 contacts with only name + number was somewhat dissapointing, especially since htc implemented that feature from day one it seemed.
I do miss the opportunity to switch functions using a swipe though (the dialer pad button is a little hard to press wile on a bicycle ), but overall I think it's a huge improvement, especially with the mentioned bonus point that it identifies numbers from businesses that are not in my contacts!
I like how Google didn't give us transparency on stock /s

(app) Naked Browser

Have been running Unjust's CM11 version and I must say I think it's the best ROM I've ever used. Super smooth and quick. That being said the browser has quirks so I went about finding a replacement.
After trying all of them several times I tried "Naked Browser". It's ugly as sin and missing a few features, but man it's blazing fast. Very small footprint as well. Just thought I would throw it out there for some that it might help....(4.3 & 4.4 users especially).
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Can you give us a rundown of the others you tried and what maybe was your main pros & cons of them?
I've always thought chrome was nice but way to much memory hog for 4.2.x and up ROMs.
.
Well to be honest my main reasoning came down to 2 basic things. Number one being speed. In my limited use the Naked Browser is very basic and speedy. None of the others, even Opera Mini, seem as quick to me.
Number 2 reason is the way it looks on a smaller screened device. And by that I mean I hate, I hate, having to constantly pinch and zoom to get the pages "optimized" upon every click. Naked's pages come up in a manner that is already usable. And when you need to zoom you have the option of using zoom buttons...a la' the old Google Maps style. Much better for me personally.
And as a bonus the apps' footprint is under 200kb.
I haven't used it long personally. But so far I'm really liking it. Hope this helps!
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Also...
I hate saying and using the term "outdated", as my Fassy has been an excellent device for me but technically that's what it is now. If it wasn't outdated and had more horsepower I would probably use the stock browser, Chrome, or Next Browser. I like them as well. But they don't play nice with a Fassy running 4.2+ in my experience.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I seem to get along just fine with chrome on my phone. It's a bit slow but it works
Quick update:
After using this browser some more I feel it has great potential. Have had a few glitchy moments depending on what I'm doing, and on certain webpages. I find myself using this browser as well as waffling back and forth to Opera Mini.
If you are ok with a feature rich browser and don't mind it being a little slow than these options probably won't serve you well. I however, hate lag or slowness of any kind. If you're like me give both these options a try. Naked is fast and occasionally glitchy. Opera Mini is nearly as fast, more polished, and has more features. Both stomp the stock browser running newer 4.2+ ROMs on the Fassy. Hope this helps some people. -Thanks

watching youtube problem
hi Thanks for this browser.
But i am facing a problem, when i watch a youtube video in fullscreen and try to exit fullscreen, the browser does not exit. the large video keeps playing in the background of the browser.
Kindly fix it or tell me how to do it.
One more thing, can you think of changing the name from 'Naked' to something else?

Chrome perform really inconsistently on 4.4.2 Kit Kat

My N5 is on stock 4.4.2,
Having read that the Nexus 5 CPU throttle back when it hit it's preset temperature to prevent overheating (while charging or running intensive apps) generally doesn't affect much of the UI, most apps and gaming (still buttery smooth) but the throttling had affect Chrome so badly that it's absurb !!
When I'm charging, web pages takes ages to load on HSPA+ and never ever loads completely, the blue loading bar in Chrome will hang at about 9/10 of it's way thou page are readable but images don't load up. Pinch zoom and kinetic scrolling stutter, couple with Chrome hang for a good 2 sec before resuming itself. Web pages like the Verge, dpreview, gsmarena and xda forum can never load up completely and I'm getting incomplete texts and forget about images !!
I've initially though it's the N5's cell signal problems but atlas I downloaded Dolphin Browser, I can full load all the above mentioned web pages in about 7 - 10 sec. I think Google should really further optimize Chrome for upcoming Kit Kat updates, If they can make Chrome blazing fast on a x86-64 PC why not Android ?
I'll be sticking with Dolphin Browser for a while thou until 4.4.3, finger cross then
Anybody experience this problem too?

Short answer, Chrome sucks. First thing I did when I got my N5 was root it, install Titanium backup and freeze Chrome. I use Dolphin and Next for now. I do notice that in general, the browsing experience has gotten worse going from 4.3 to 4.4. Hopefully google will address this going forward.
