Chrome perform really inconsistently on 4.4.2 Kit Kat - Nexus 5 General

My N5 is on stock 4.4.2,
Having read that the Nexus 5 CPU throttle back when it hit it's preset temperature to prevent overheating (while charging or running intensive apps) generally doesn't affect much of the UI, most apps and gaming (still buttery smooth) but the throttling had affect Chrome so badly that it's absurb !!
When I'm charging, web pages takes ages to load on HSPA+ and never ever loads completely, the blue loading bar in Chrome will hang at about 9/10 of it's way thou page are readable but images don't load up. Pinch zoom and kinetic scrolling stutter, couple with Chrome hang for a good 2 sec before resuming itself. Web pages like the Verge, dpreview, gsmarena and xda forum can never load up completely and I'm getting incomplete texts and forget about images !!
I've initially though it's the N5's cell signal problems but atlas I downloaded Dolphin Browser, I can full load all the above mentioned web pages in about 7 - 10 sec. I think Google should really further optimize Chrome for upcoming Kit Kat updates, If they can make Chrome blazing fast on a x86-64 PC why not Android ?
I'll be sticking with Dolphin Browser for a while thou until 4.4.3, finger cross then
Anybody experience this problem too?

Maybe I should give Chrome a 'good cleaning' inside via clear cache and app datas

Or reinstall it

I've noticed Chrome using much more battery then any other browser I've tried. Not sure exactly why I've since switched to Firefox which syncs with my desktop browser.

Exactly... chewing up to about 12% of juice during my N5 9hrs usage time, forget to took a screen shot thou...

Just today I was also wondering why chrome is so slow. Slow to load and really bad scroll stutter. My GS2 with CM10.1 browser so much better. How can that be?
But lots of people reporting no problems with chrome. Would love to know what I should be doing differently.

Short answer, Chrome sucks. First thing I did when I got my N5 was root it, install Titanium backup and freeze Chrome. I use Dolphin and Next for now. I do notice that in general, the browsing experience has gotten worse going from 4.3 to 4.4. Hopefully google will address this going forward.

LOL to root to freez chrome ?

Was a slight exaggeration, I flashed kernel trinity and rastakat before I froze Chrome

Shouldn't use dolphin. They have some serious privacy violations with all their apps. I recommend Firefox, Chrome, Opera or Naked Browser. Chrome does suck though IMO.

Looks like just have to wait for the next 4.4.3 again before I'm going back to Chrome... sigh.

But dolphin has flash support

I think Dolphin's security exploit had been fixed after ver 7
check out their blog...

You really trust the people at Dolphin. Its up to you guys. I personally don't like handing over my private data to some untrustworthy company in another country. Check the privacy thread out. Dolphin Zero still has privacy issues too.
I think Firefox supports flash and you can always sideload it too.

[Q] Chrome vs Opera

im just curious as to which browser you guys run and which ones you guys think run faster on past experiences. i use chrome as my daily driver but have been curious as to what might run faster. I would just download opera and try it but im at school and cannot run .exe files. thanks!

Firefox is the best.
Rapid.
Has Ad-Free.
Better than Chrome/Opera.
Of the two, I prefer Chrome. Opera has some nice features, but seems to get sluggish after a while (in my experience). Chrome is fast, lightweight, and has some nice extensions to customize to your liking. You should also consider the newest version of Firefox. I've been using that for a couple weeks and the speed improvement is nice.

ios devices with the a4 or a5 chip never stutter... the a4 chipped devices will checkerboard before a stutter happens and the a5 chipped devices never even checkerboard. they dont use flash... which is really heavy on resources and im thinking about uninstalling flash cause of it. im seeing way to many ads (i use to use an iphone btw) and its making my browsing experience horrible.
If your having problems with flash rather than uninstalling it Give Opera a try and go to it's setting and turn Opera Turbo to Always On and that should help because I think it actually blocks all running Flash not 100% certain but I can tell it def. speeds up the web pages.

Who else prefers the stock browser to Chrome?

I actually started using the stock Samsung browser after I heard a reviewer include it in their video review under the software review section.
I actually strongly prefer it to chrome. The back/forward and bookmark buttons on the bottom that auto hide for full screen browsing are clutch. Also, the quick dial page, which at first glance seems to be redundant considering there is a bookmarks tab, but it actually is a super fast way to go through a bunch of frequently visited sites very quickly.
I also prefer how it brings up click able lists on the bottom of the screen rather than in a pop-up in the middle of the screen.
I haven't used a stock browser since safari on my old iPhone. Discuss.

No thanks. That thing is ugly and pain to navigate. Not to mention, good luck getting updates for security/bug fixes in a timely fashion, as is the case for any stock browser. Chrome keeps everything synced and easily accessible between devices, so it's much more useful for me. To each their own, though

I wouldn't know personally, but I'm sure it is. Third party browsers get regular updates for security vulnerabilities and bug fixes, while stock browsers have traditionally taken much, much longer to get updates rolled out. That and the fact that Chrome makes everything so much easier is why I'll never use a stock browser again.

The stock browser is very well thought out and polished, not not to mention snappy. I'd choose Firefox as my 3rd party browser over the Google Chrome botnet any day.
I typically use chrome primarily because I can sync between my devices, but this conversation is making me take a second look at the stock browser. I'll play around with it today.

Quick tip if you feel Chrome is running choppy or laggy

One of my few frustrations with the tablet has been a laggy feel while browsing in Chrome. So after a bit of research, try this tweak and see if it feels faster for you:
1. In a new tab, surf to chrome://flags/#max-tiles-for-interest-area
2. Change value from "default" to "512"
3. Click button on bottom that says "relaunch now"
Enjoy!

Tested the 10.5" at Bestbuy during the week-end and found Chrome was quite laggy. I installed the Beta (that i usually use on my phone), it was not really better. Scrolling on web sites like dpreview.com wasn't smooth at all.
I have to test again I guess. That prevented me from buying the tablet. For me web browsing experience has to be great a on new tablet.

You have to remember to close all the open apps on those display units at best buy, sometimes almost every app is open lol. The demo unit I tried everything lagged till I closed all those running apps.
That said, my unit at home is smooth on all fronts.
I have the 10" here at home, and that's what I'm experiencing on Chrome Beta, which is what I use.
I think my Nexus 5 has spoiled me.

The particular item: "#max-tiles-for-interest-area" will be highlighted at the very top of the page in yellow as soon as you enter the address. It's the only thing that will be highlighted. It will say: "Maximum tiles for interest area Mac, Windows, Linux, Chrome OS, Android". Change the option below it.
Thanks it did improve the browsing speed on chrome. I was a bit worried because of the lags. The browsing was faster on my sony tab z then on tab s.. not any more .
I have tried Chrome browser (with max-tiles-for-interest-area = 512) on several 10.5" and always find it quite laggy.
I have closed all apps, etc.
The scrolling on web sites with lot of pictures like dpreview , theverge.com, etc. is definitely not smooth. An iPad air for example is lot more fluid.
I like the 10.5" but not sure to buy it until I see a good web browsing demo on it.

Really?!
Either Samsung have pushed an update since when I switched to (first CM11 and now) CM12.
Or it is due to the different processors the Tx05s have compared to the Tx00 wifi-only versions.
I heard those LTE versions somehow have more optimization or horsepower than the wifi versions...
Chrome runs pretty fast for me. There's a few hiccups here an there but not too bug a deal. If you have a low-end tablet it may not even be good at running Chrome. Try Chrome Beta and tell us if it goes any faster. I use that at love it. What do you mean by laggy? Is it sloe to respond to touches or load pages? That may be your internet connection slowng Chrome down

It's not impossible for different people to have different performance with the same tablet. It happens often and not only with browers. I like Chrome because it's easy to sync my bookmarks which I have hundreds with my desktop, laptop and phone. But it is laggy on my tablet so I often use Dolphin instead which runs very smoothly and supports flash.
True on that one. Chrome can run differently depending on how may apps you have, how many are open, WiFi connection, and evenbbatyery life. Chrin cab be a bit laggy at times if there's multiple apps open or your low on space.

I do not believe. In my notes 3 Chrome runs very well always. My Tab s (T805) chrome, always turns bad, even with the tablet just formatted.
if someone is good and other is bad, there must be something underneath, or have different yardstick, or there is some version of the tablet that runs better, and others in which turns worse.
i use chrome simply because i have all my bookmarks and history from browsing on pc..
