OTA update will remove tampered flag or not ????? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okay I`m planning to send my phone back for wrrnty claim ( bottom speaker issue ).......manage to revert back to stock 4.1.2, stock recovery, s-on and locked bootloader except this tricky tampered flag........already tried removing many times it using revone but always ended up with error =2........now my final option is updating to 4.2.2 through OTA...........
Will those tampered flag gone if I updating to 4.2.2 through OTA ???? Thanxx in advance............

Maybe.. something isn't original, could be boot, hboot, recovery, etc that's why you have the flag up.

if you s-off, you can use either one of these:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2477792
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2527194
and if you want to go completely back to stock, check my guide (in my signature), if you REALLY insist on going S-On, do it exactly WHEN it is mentioned to do it, ie after 1st OTA, but BEFORE hboot 1.55!!

1- remove IMEI and s/n, we don't need to these these
2- if you used the ruu.zip method (successfully) then you are now 100% stock
I see you even decided to s-on
(i prefer s-off)

Confused and in need of help restock/brick

Hey guys I been trying to revert back to stock for the past 3 days. Been searching everything I can, I figured how to root luckily even though coming from a Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy Note 1. I am just so lost about the RUU and S-off. I tried couple RUU but it just seems to be in exe format not flash able and when I run it I get an error saying to find a different ROM utility to update it. I also didn't make a nandroid backup either. My question is I am trying to return my device and upgrade it under my warranty. In order to do that I need it first off in stock, becasue it says ***TAMPERED*** as well as unlocked. And after reading I see I have to s-off it, but still confused where to begin how to do it. Also I need to brick it after the device is back to stock. I see everything for AT&T and Sprint RUU but not sure one for Bell.
On fastboot menu it says m7_UL PVT SHIP S-ON RH
HBOOT- 1.44.0000
RADIO -4A.14.3250.13
OPENDSP-V26.120.274
eMMCboot
Hope I gave enough enough. Also I am using a Macbook and running Parallel on Windows 7 would that be an issue? Would be great if someone can point me toe right direction or briefly explain what to search for. I have a Bell HTC ONE
Thanks for your time.

hboot 1.44 is good, check the date too, it has to be pre June 2013.
Then you can follow vomer's guide to S-Off: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2365506
If you can, post a "fastboot getvar all" (remove IMEI and s/n before posting), so we can confirm firmware. also post which ROM you are using, best chance to get S-Off is using a Sense 4.1.2 ROM.
Oh and finally, why do you "I need to brick it after the device is back to stock"
PS: in either case keep S-Off don't go back to S-On. If you do insist on going S-On it should be THE VERY LAST THING you do after restoring everything to stock.

Thanks for the reply, its hboot 1.44 May 4 2013 so guessing thats good
Also running 4.3 AT&T rom because I soft bricked it once and that was the only one I found that was stock. Also software number is 3.17.502.3 if it matters.

So pretty much I have insurance on this device, and I am trying to switch it for another one. Inorder for that to happen it has to be in stock, as they checked last time it was tampered so I need to get back to stock and have it bricked. Or some other way that the device can't even turn on if possible.
So I will give the link you provided a try, for "fastboot getvar all" is that process done on the phone itself or on my mac?

hboot is good to go, however the 4.3 ROM is not. You'll need to download a Sense 5, Android 4.1.2 (possibly 4.2.2) ROM for revone to work.
the "fastboot getvar all" is run from your computer, while your phone is connected and in bootloader saying "FASTBOOT USB". it would confirm your firmware version, but seeing you are S-On and still on hboot 1.44 you probably have neither updated firmware nor taken any OTA. So revone should succeed with the proper ROM.
Also check this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2431515

No, because you need to downgrade to hboot 1.44 to run this ruu and this require s-off
If you don't want to go s-off, you can restore stock rom and recovery by flashing that rom:

Yes and Yes, you have to select "stock recovery" when installing the Guru Reset for OTAs to install properly.

----> select WIPE, select "stock recovery", root and radio are up to you
you're all done, you will receive OTAs without any problems.

reflash the same rom, without selecting wipe (known as a "dirty flash").
there are no OTAs after 3.62 at the moment, and when they become available they'll work fine without messing with google services.

s-on is OPTIONAL, it's up to YOU to decide that
still having trouble, found my original stock backup of 4.2.2, but now have HBOOT 1.44, i really need a full Vodafone UK RUU the .exe version would probably be best but just cant find anywhere, cant even flash the OTA RUU probably because I have mismatched firmware, recovery and HBOOT now,
well UPS is picking it up tomorrow so i'll just have to hope they don't refuse repair due to software not being 100% stock especially as the issue is a hardware fault
wish me luck and thanks for you help

1- you might wanna edit your post and remove IMEI and s/n
2- from above getvar, you look like you followed the first part of my guide an now your phone, is an European unbranded phone.
3- so quick quick question, you wanna go back to "VODAP001" (do you really need to?) ? is there a nandroid backup out there?

don't forget you need "stock recovery" for OTA to update correctly, and do not go from s-off to s-on on 4.3 (hboot 1.55) it will most likely trigger a "tamper detected"!!
if you did get hboot 1.55 just keep s-off, otherwise you're gonna be back on square 1.
I have to sign off now, but you can PM me if anything comes up before tomorrow.
if my guide did help you in any way, i would appreciate it if you posted your details, in my thread (whenever you get a chance), it will be helpful to others.
and hit the thanks button in the guide
good luck :fingers-crossed:
Yeah I flashed my original stock backup, flashed stock recovery and locked bootloader , I had forgot to change my CID back, it wasn't till u advised that I post my " getvar all" that I noticed, I haven't checked if my HBOOT is still 1.44 or updated to 1.55 yet, I left s-off hope it still is, again many thanks mate

Yeah I'm on HBOOT 1.55 now but still s-off, I take it if I s-on again I won't be able to get it back, I used rumrunner s-off last time but I that was on HBOOT 1.54 iirc, not that it matter now anyway

Keep s-off, otherwise u may end up having to start at square 1, and if I read correctly, u have to send it off in the morning.
UK repair centers seem quite decent, and they can't really prove it wasnt s-off to begin with.

Re-gaining Warranty

Hi guys. I have an M7UL, which I purchased from the Middle East. My One is having the stupid purple tint problem. So I don't really have a choice but to send it for repair. Ive tried adjusting the exposure, saturation, etc. but the problem is at it is (Please give me any other suggestions to fix the cam if there are).
So I wanna get my warranty back. The phone is on InsertCoin 7.0.6 and S-OFF on Google CID. ive attached the getvar all. So can somebody please help me in unrooting, locking the bootloader and returning 2 stock(basically al the procedures 2 get the warranty back).
P.S. I believe it was the 401 firmware

you can go s-on if you like, just follow the guide on when to do it.

didnt understand that question, you mean why the firmware is newer on your phone? -> it's cause it was already updated, before being shipped, that's all.
Is the phone supposed 2 b in fastboot mode wen running the RUU ?

Also, my existing recovery TWRP 2.6.3.3 takes much longer 2 load on this older HBOOT than earlier. Is this normal ?

Use a Win7 machine
If you cant get your hands on one, then create an Ubuntu 12.04 Live USB (32bit) (use the "Try Ubuntu" option, no need to install): http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/create-a-usb-stick-on-windows
install adb & fastboot using:
Code:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nilarimogard/webupd8
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install android-tools-adb android-tools-fastboot
Since ruu.exe (windows) doesn't work on linux, you'll need to use this instead: http://www.htc1guru.com/dld/ruu-zip...1-27_10-31-1131-05_release_310878_signed-zip/
using the RUU.ZIP method in my guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2541082 post #3

HTC ONE M7 Rooting - How would I go back?

Hi everyone, I apologies if this is a bit of a silly question however I am attempting to root an android device for the first time and would just like to know what you thought about an issue which I am having.
My question is, I plan to root my phone and install TWRP recovery, if I ever needed to unroot I am under the impression I would need an RUU which matches the radio very I have. The details of the radio is 4T.29.3218.08 and the phone is from the UK (Europe). I cannot find this version anywhere. If I ever needed to unroot does this mean I would not be able to?
This is the only thing which is now stopping me from rooting my phone... Thank you in advance for your replies.

your on the newest software their is no 6.x.401 RUU
to return to stock you simply flash the stock odex rom and stock recovery / do a factory reset and your Stock
you would still have an unlocked bootloader but without s-off you can't fix that (unlocked to locked)

So a couple of questions. Does that mean there is never going to be an RUU for my phone or is it just with time there will be more for the current version? As for flashing to the odex Rom and stock recovery, the Rom would be simple enough for TWRP recovery, how would i do the stock recovery part? Or would they be an all in one installation, installing the Rom would also install the recovery?
Thank you for your help

HTC doesn't release RUU each time there is a new version. Maybe with the future release of android lollipop, we don't know.

flash the stock rom using twrp and then flash the stock recovery the same way you have flashed twrp recovery. Twrp will be overwritten by the stock recovery.
Just keep in mind that you'll need s-off if you want your warranty back (to set the bootloader back to *locked* (not relocked) and to remove the *tampered* flag)

Yes but if you make a backup of your rom after unlocking the bootloader, there will be some files missing (htc preloaded apps in /data/preload) which will prevent you to use ota updates is you restore this backup. There is a 6.09.401.10 nandroid backup including the /data/preload folder on android file host.

You can extract it from any 6.09.401.10 firmware or from the 6.09.401.5 to 6.09.401.10 ota zip file.
nvm, I found it here: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95784891001603803
@alray - So my steps to stock would be:
Download and install the rom using TWRP recoveryfrom the following address:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95832962473396068
Then install the stock recovery from the following link (Install is the same way I installed TWRP):
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95784891001603803
If the phone is still S-ON, I will not be able to change the label so will have to make it S-OFF if I need to change - just out of curiosity, if I leave the phone S-ON will this affect OTA updates?
Then factory reset the phone - I should be back to a stock phone.
Would these steps be correct?
ashyk36 said:

yes:
fastboot flash recovery name_of_file.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot
If the phone is still S-ON, I will not be able to change the label so will have to make it S-OFF if I need to change Exactly - just out of curiosity, if I leave the phone S-ON will this affect OTA updates? No, if you rom is 100% stock (which will be the case after restoring the above backup) and you have stock recovery, youre good for ota update. S-ON/S-OFF doesn't affect ota updates.
Then factory reset the phone - I should be back to a stock phone.

My phone has hit the purple tint issue which is a well known fault. I have spoken to HTC and they have said that they will fix under warranty. I need to return the phone back to stock. I know I can use the nandroid backup and the recovery in the post above but I am very confused on how to S-off.
My problem is there are so many guides (some of them being very old) on how to do this and I do not know which method to use. Could someone please point me in the right direction so I can return my phone back to stock.
Thank you so much

I would highly recommend to follow nkk71's super guide (linked in my signature). Everything is well explained in details, just make sure to read everything before beginning and also read the FAQ of his guide.
To achieve s-off, you will need to use Sunshine if your hboot is 1.57 or above. Sunshine cost 25$ USD. Its the only method to achieve s-off on hboot 1.54 and above.
S-OFF is a must to remove the tampered banner and set back the bootloader to ***LOCKED*** (not ***RE-LOCKED***) so your warranty is still valid, but again everything explained in that guide. If you have any question you can ask here or in nkk71's guide. If you have questions, post an updated "fastboot getvar all" at the same time.

I can see RUU for:

but not baseband 4T.29.3218.08
Do I just use the files you linked me to in the posts above?

Baseband version is irrelevant when looking for RUUs. You want a ruu that match your CID, MID and firmware base (.401). Also you need the ruu to be hboot 1.44 (1.xx.xxx.x) so you can safely remove the tampered banner. So in our case you must use the 1.28.401.7 ruu.zip.

Downgrading requires s-off, s-off can only be achieved using Sunshine when hboot is 1.57 or newer

Just so I know for the future, I know my firmware base is .401 based on the following line:
(bootloader) version-main: 6.09.401.10
Is this right? Thank you for your help!

Right and also because your CID and MID are HTC__001 and PN0710000 so the corresponding software/firmware base is x.xx.401.x
