Post benchmark tests here. - HTC First

I did a bench mark using antutu and when I was buying this phone I could have went with the One X. But I didn't and now I'm glad.not only do I get better battery life but checkout the bench mark test.!

By the way I did that with the default CPU governer with no over clock.

what did you overclock to?

Antutu gives a combined score. While our devices may score overall close to one x, nexus 4, and s3 it scores differently in categories. Basically htc first scores mediocre at cpu, ram and flash tests but makes up for it in graphics tests. Such comparison is inherently biased because it depends on how antutu weighs the separate tests. Bottom line is that you should not expect htc first to be better running anything that is not graphically intensive, meaning its not quite as good for everyday apps.
I do own a one x which I will be selling off soon. I like the ergonomics and form factor of the first much better and the lower performance does not bother me
Having diassembled htc first I do not recommend overclocking it. The board is very small (compared to others) and components are tightly packed so there is no adequate pcb surface area for heat dissipation. There is no heatsink and the plastic shell of the phone does not help dissipate heat. One mini will perhaps be better at that.

Yes I noticed brief and almost unoticablr lag in my launcher. And yes I know how antutu works. But each phone has its strengths you know.

Damn, pretty impressive. Do you have a standalone power amp connected to the phone along with 4 more external cores attached inside a refrigerator?

I've actually tried doing something like that to some extent. When 2 years ago when I tried adding a Samsung galaxy s 2 camera to my $200 prepaid 800mhz phone without a GPU lol I figured since they both used the same adaptors and the camera was a standalone hardware component it'd be easy even though the camera one the s2 was bigger I could just make a cut out on my cheap phone. But as many phone's specs & performance it was allot better on paper

i think the most probable thing to do with a phone as far as hardware modding would be either ram or rom expansion? cause those are standalone chipsets and components. while cpu is like welded (saudered) onto a other chip

Here you go. First vs One!

No. Both RAM and onboard flash are soldered onto the board via BGA mounting on all current phones. Without a vacuum rig, a reflow oven and a bucketload of lucky paws you should just forget about it.

Darn it. Why can't they make a smartphone at least "like" a PC. So that no matter what, you can install anything and change hardware. I think that's what that "block" phone or Lego phone did or what ever its called

Yep, phone blocks thats what i meant. cool consept, but will be quite hard to actualy make effective, i mean to make a phone 1. be durable using that system would be hard, it could just fall apart. 2. the screen is ONE piece, meaning how is that a block? 3. The blocks will be quite thick i think there for my htc first would be like what 11mm thick minimum? and so on.
GREAT concept though, nothing against it. Personally the best concept out there at the moment is the Jolla Sailfish phone.
EDIT. just looked up project ara, the whole idea of a modular phone is Feasible, but it wouldn't actually work. Reason? well, remember when android came out, and then about at the point of android 2.2 foyo with the droid X, the whole "android" thing was counted as a big joke. although by us tech geeks who are actually interested in how technology works, advances and so on, its easy, the better choice is the Droid X. But for 90 percent of people it was still the iphone, and still is for a big chunk of the world. what has happened is that apple stopped making a big deal out of the whole "android copied us" thing. So now, androids are still NOT appealing to people who are NOT interested in any way in technology, therefore number one choice would be an iPhone. now for us tech geeks, its easy to go and move on to project ara or phone blocks, cause we like doing that, getting something cooler and better and so on. But now that people have finally figured out android and its versions and manufacturers and have "settled down", for them to acquire more knowledge about processors and ram and cameras and screens and ppi and so on, is too much work (um...no more like 10 minutes worth of research on Google) but people will be to lazy to actually take interest cause its "too complicated" like all my fellow iphone lovers say. Seriously have you ever talked to a hardcore apple fan who has never even SEEN an android like the htc one let alone touched it and used it? YOU CANT talk to them, they just wont listen. no imagine telling them about phone blocks! they will say...cool...and thats it, they will be to lazy and to arrogant to drop what they have now and move on.
so will it work? um, maybe. it would be like Microsoft holding a few percent of marketshare. and as for popularity...once people get into "using their own heads"...they will give up. so it will work practicaly, but in the real world...it wont work WELL
well, all i can say is hail progress, technology, and android :/
But we will be able to have fun trying to see who can get the best benchmark score! hahaha

Quick point, Android currently has most of the market share. I believe it's 52%? While apple is at like 25?
Ara is closer to completion, though this is only the first version. Also remember Google owns Motorola lol.

Lol that guy in post 3 is a joke. Another brainwashed Apple fan boy. The only thing he is correct about is that the iPhone is easier to see in the sun. IPhone 5 is only getting a bigger screen because they are losing market share, same goes for turn by turn navigation.
By getting it right I assume he means "waits for someone else to innovate, then copies them and claims to be innovative"

it's just crazy thinking how these apple fan boys brag about their phone compared to android but deep inside they're envious.
Ok ok I don't think 3 post is from Apple washed brained. He is just 'trying' to explain the benefits of the iphone over android, but he fails with every word he said. The apple ecosistem is nearly perfect but if you are not into iphone doesn't worth it so much... They bring you a seamless experience more than features...

Love apple fanboys having their little rages if anything bad is said about iPhone, or their messiah Steve Jobs (who, I'm sure some apple fanboys believe will rise from the dead.)
Not shocking one bit. Most of my coworkers have iphone and whenever they're at my desk, they always play with my phone for minutes on ends and would forget why they're there for. I, on the other hand, could care less about a toy phone that predates 2008.
Got my first "smartphone" in 2010. I had the option of SGS1 vs iPhone 3GS and I went with the iPhone 3GS. Probably one of the worst decision of my life, if not THE worst decision. Told my sister to get the SGS1 when her contract expires in a months time and swapped phones right away.
I'd say that for first time users who are not computer savvy at all (and to some extent a bit lazy) will like the iPhone, everything is there for you and iTunes is pretty much a one stop shop for anything/everything. No tinkering required at all except a few email setup/account syncs. Basically, a boring phone. The only thing you can really "develop" is an app.
Android on the other hand is a pandora's box. The amount of open source developing, customisation, tweaks, themes, roms is just amazing. You can pretty much mix and match different options from ROMS/Themes and have your phone the way you want it.
Unless the next few versions of iPhone have 3D Holographic tech, strippers/lap dance included, unlimited free drinks at any bar in the world, a batmobile and 10% of its shares, it will be inferior to the Android any day.
Muhahahaha
It's funny how you introduced yourself there in the thread. Lol.

And oh, i almost forgot, even funnier Siri.

You don't mean advanced tech, like the super advanced SD card so you?
My sister's partner had an iPhone, with a pin, he passed away and no one knows the pin, the only way to make it usable is a factory reset, which will wipe all data, as we all know, including pics, music etc.
Or even the even more advanced tech like a fail safe if you forget your pin, similar to how android allows you to sign into your google account if your pin is entered incorrectly.
They will get a minor hardware upgrade. Bigger screen maybe, just maybe, a quad core processor and definitely a new version of ios. Too bad ios will still stuck, you will still have to enslave yourself to the iTunes store, you still won't be able to pull the battery and insert a fresh spare when it's flat, and you'll have to wait until after android owns you again before you have to pay thru the nose again for another minor hardware update.

Ordered my 32GB S3 from Sprint today so should be getting it by Friday at the latest. I've been dying to have it in my hands after being around so many friends who own an iPhone and being able to flaunt it in their faces. However, with the iPhone 5 just around the corner, I'm a little worried that I won't be able to make them as envious as us Android users have been able to do for quite some time now. We've had bigger screens, turn-by-turn GPS, more powerful phones, etc. but as Samsung's new CEO said the future of smartphones will be primarily about the software on it and it's a lot easier to show off a bigger, beautiful screen to an iSheep than to try and explain to them software advantages.
lol at this thread... nice to be in some educated company for a change instead of putting up with apple fanboy drivel. Isheep LMFAO

For this, I have thanked you. Funniest quote of the day.
I laugh at Apple fanboys tbh. The amount of things I can do with Android without altering it is endless; while with altering the possibilities are endless. As for their iPhone; they need to Jailbreak it to even change slight things.
Apple goes for innovation, and new ideas.. But these "new ideas" are not new, and is always at least one year old by the time they release their phone.

Plus, we have all seen the ios 6 video. The features suck. There is no new ones. Nothing interesting. I used to be a bit brainwashed by apple when I did a bit of development for my touch, but I don't think I'll even buy one of those now. Even all my friends who think apple is the best are seeing my beast sgs and saying "damn why don't I have one of those?"

Goodphone i5 will sue Apple when iPhone 5 unveils

Thought you guys might be interested in this, it's pretty funny because that is actually how the iPhone 5 screen looks but it's hard to believe they haven't patented it already. Here's the story:
Chinese phone maker Goophone gets full marks for cheek. The day Apple’s iPhone 5 launch was finally announced, Goophone promised to have the phone banned in China… because it has already patented Apple’s design there.
Apple has suffered serious trademark and patent issues in China in the past, but the Goophone claim is causing merriment amongst Mac watchers. The Goophone i5 does indeed look much like the leaked iPhone 5. The move has been described by CultofMac as “wonderfully brazen” – but any attempt to enforce a Chinese patent would surely expose where Goophone got the design in the first place… wouldn’t it?
The Goophone i5, which first surfaced in August, looks superficially like an iPhone, but runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Like the expected iPhone 5, it has a 4-inch screen, a smaller dock connector and larger speakers, and external speaker grills, whilst the headphone socket has moved to the bottom of the phone.
Inside, it is thought to have an Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core 1.4Ghz CPU and 1GB RAM.
The i5 isn’t yet on sale in China, however, and is expected in the shops somewhat after the iPhone 5 launch.
Goophone’s site features the words “iPhone 5″ prominently in Latin script but its claims to the design seem very weak, especially given the fact that Apple has patents on the shape and style of iPhones going back some years, which have recently been upheld against Samsung in a US court.
GizChina has a video of the device:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AdfJCDdQuzE&feature=player_embedded
Apple has only recently settled a claim over the iPad trademark in China, paying $60 million to Proview, the owner of the term “iPad” there, when Proview threatened to ban any sales of iPads in China.
Meanwhile, the inventiveness of Chinese counterfeiters was shown last year, when they were found to have copied three entire Apple Stores.

Well I believe it won't anyway, I think most things will be similar to the S3, not like it matters. They could make the iPhone 5 a single-core phone with a 3 megapixel camera and it would be THE BEST PHONE EVER MADE! The phone gets carried by the hype too much IMO, don't get me wrong it's a great phone but saying it's the best is absurd

Yep, like everything else it's overpriced because of the name.
Look at Dr.Dre beats headphones, you'll never see anything as over-priced in your life, they're just above standard headphones with a "b" on the side to remind everyone else that you're better then them, it's just silly (I even own a pair and can say I never use them)

Well, the Moto RAZR and Galaxy SIII aren't worth $699 new in box either Freaking old as dirt Android devices are still ridiculously expensive and most of the time can only be bought from the carrier if you want them from a retail space. Sony is about the only company that offers new phones at decent prices. Google releases their Nexus devices at fair retail as well, but their made by different manufacturers so that's a slightly different horse.
Let's just not act like Apple is the only one who beats their customers in the head.

My first week in the wild with a Nexus 4

It's been 8 days since I got my N4, and I've spent a full week of sixth form college using it. (Like the last two years of high school for you non-Brits.) In my case, it's been fantastic. I love it.
Hell, it even helped me get a girls number. I just met her, was talking to her for a bit, whipped out my N4 to check the time and she grabbed it off me in awe and added her number to my contacts
One of the main things on my mind was how tough the gorilla glass actually was. And I can say, it is in perfect condition. No scratches or marks whatsoever, but I have been very careful with it.
In Cambridge I get a decent HSPA signal and generally fast speeds. No HSPA+ on giffgaff though I listen to music on the bus and the audio quality is great, maybe on par with an iPod/iPhone. (Yes, you can tell the difference with a cheap Android phone and an iDevice.) The speaker is mediocre though, and the volume is severely reduced when placed on a flat surface.
The screen is wonderful, I haven't noticed any yellow tint or washed out colours like some people say. The way the glass curves off to the edge is magnificent, and really makes a significant difference in interacting with the phone.
On the topic of the screen, the glass itself feels very premium. It's smooth to the touch and is the most oleophobic screen I've used. The phone feels like it should be priced much higher.
The reflective back is very tasteful, it never looks tacky. A lot of the time it's just black and looks great. The camera is better than expected, it produced good photos.
Performance is good, I've had very few slow downs and games play at a high FPS. Chrome being the stock browser doesn't bother me, it holds up very well when browsing. The only difference you'll notice will be in benchmarks. There isn't really much to say about 4.2, I'm sure you're all aware of it's features. My only gripe is that the quick settings aren't toggles, they're just shortcuts.
Battery life is well.. meh. It's enough to hold up my day of moderate use (taken off charge at 6:30AM, get home about 5:15PM), but it's normally less than 15% by then. I would've liked something that could hold up for a bit longer.
I have also found that WiFi signal seems to be worse than previous devices I've owned, but I'm just looking for something to complain about now.
Overall, it's great. In my opinion, taking into the fact that it's a Nexus device, it's the best phone on the market. My friends seem to like it too, no one I've talked to so far knew what it was, but they're definitely interested in it. One of my buddies insist that I give it to him for his birthday :highfive:
For you guys who also have the phone, what do you think of it? And what have other people said about your new treasure? Feel free to ask any questions too

I like your summary!
I'm getting mine on Monday when my dad brings it with him from the U.S!
I think that most of the issues will be resolved in 4.2.1 (maybe even bringing LTE), making this a nearly perfect phone!!!

Thanks! That's awesome, you're gonna love it. I sure hope so
For me, LTE isn't really on the agenda due to it's scarcity and price in the UK, but it would definitely make this phone more future proof

To me, it sounds like O2 are preparing a nationwide DC-HSDPA rollout.
As its already available in limited big cities.
So, if the rollout is due end of this year - must mean everyone else, right?

Good day governor, I await my Nexus 4 on giffgaff with some tea and biscuits.
Waiting for my nexus to come in as well in Cambridge, ON Canada. I always thought canada was behind on mobile tech. (we have had DC-HSPA for a couple years now LTE) but its good to know that we have caught up for the time being.

Bahaha you xda peeps crack me up! Don't worry I get plenty :good: She is a damn sexy phone though
Picked up my N4 today and have been getting to grips with it, initial impressions are. It's fast though have had slow down. Gets very hot during anything using GPS or when playing games. Camera is average and when using the flash images are washed out. It's a bit early to say much about the battery life but after 1hr38mins, its down to 73%. build quality seems good. I thought it would be a bigger leap up from my old phone but am a little disappointed currently. I will continue but if it doesn't impress further it will go back. Do love jelly bean!

Initially the battery is worse. After a few days it seemed to last longer. I also found that it gets quite warm, but I think that's mostly due to the glass
Coming from one s, it was gonna be a one x+ or N4 but like the natural android experience.

Lets settle this once and for all!!!!

Ok guys and gals I've had enough of the back and forth on which phone is better blah blah blah. Look guys I work for sprint and have had time to test both phones out extensively and I must say it Is a close tie you can't go wrong with either one. Now onto the real topic my tech and I both performed tests on both phones ranging from bench marks to camera to software etc etc and we both agreed the HTC ONE out beat the Samsung galaxy s4 by a slight edge. Now yes I realize Samsung gives you all these features and options and it's nice to have them but it takes away from the phone a lot. HTC is missing some simple key features that would put it over the top but it doesn't take away that it is an amazing phone. Onto the results in the quadrant score the HTC ONE beat the s4 three out of three times the numbers don't lie. Camera the HTC ONE performed better in daylight outside low light etc. We even had customers look at the same photo on both phones and nine out of ten times customers chose the HTC over the Samsung so I don't understand where these people get the idea that more pixels are better I mean are you blowing up a picture to life size? Hardware we both agreed the HTC has the better hardware it's a no brainer but the function of a removable battery and sd slot give the Samsung a slight edge. Screen quality although the Samsung has the nice five inch screen this category comes as a tie because you really can't go wrong with either one. I understand that HTC hasn't been the best at giving updates and developers stop developing for HTC a lot earlier than Samsung but this is HTC's last chance to bring themselves back I don't see them screwing this up. My tech has the Samsung galaxy s4 and will often say Damn I wish I got the HTC ONE instead. I'm tired of hearing all these stupid battles on which phone is better let's be done adult ass people and realize that we all don't have the same taste and we will like whatever phone suits US better. With all that said here comes the reality of the fact Samsung has better features but the HTC is the better all around performer. Hopefully we can end this fight and come to peace to help each other develop great roms and features for both phones and help take down apple instead of taking each other down that is all. My apologies for run on sentences and what not.
It'll never stop.
Walls of text should be illegal, thanks for the input tho.

That's coincidental, not irony.... But if Alanis Morissette got it wrong, you can't blame others for doing same.
Besides use Tapatalk instead. It actually works better on the iPhone 6+ than Note 4 (you see more content/posts on it).
I have both the 6+ & Note 4 (and a moto x 2014) and contrary to popular belief the two can co-exist very happily - both great phones. My app usage is near identical between them too.
Both have great screens and great battery life. And after 5 months use, neither my Note 4 has a gap gate issue or iPhone 6+ bend gate issue....
I don't understand why some in android or apple communities get so insecure about these things. Just enjoy whatever device you are using.
That being said I'm not sure why your post is entirely relevant here and will inevitably stir up a hornets nest.
I must admit I have thought about it while sitting here waiting for lollipop. Considered the Nexus 6 as well, but at the end of the day this Note can do things that none of the competition can. The pen mostly but the removable battery and sd card are also nice. 6+ would be ok if I got the 128gb version but here in New Zealand a 32gb Nexus 6 costs the same as a note 4 so it's a total no brainer, lollipop or not.

I actually had the same thought, because I admire the beauty of the iPhone. But after taking a look I realized that they wanted me to pay extra cash for the exchange which is ridiculous since they get a better phone from me then I get from them.. But I might trade phones, just to try out the 6+ someday..
Im waiting for "IPhone 17 plus +" until then I stick with Note series.

I actually think it's not a bad idea at all. I've been with Andorid since the start and never had an Iphone, but there's tons of apps that have better support on iOS/apps that are not on Android at all. anyway..why not change once in awhile and try new things right? maybe i'll do it with my next phone
I made complete research, and just for change of taste, i went to buy an iphone 6+, got it booked here in Pakistan. but ended up buying a Note 4, and my first 2-3 days were of full depression because of battery drains but now its all fine. the only regret i have is the sound quality i was having with htc one m8 before, otherwise note4 is soooo awesome <3
After just one day with it, I quite content with it. Seems to be pretty solid...so far.

The fact that you can't use NFC (no secure token such as yubikey) for anything other than ApplePay, or that you can't use openvpn or PGP on an iPhone makes it an unsuitable/undesirable device for me. I hate how you can only run software endorsed by Apple on a device you paid for.

Agree but that's how they maintain the pubic perception that their platform is stable, secure and reliable. In reality it's no better that a high end Android these days, it's just that it's much easier for Android users to completely bork their phone by installing badly built apps.
Also iOS is easier to develop for, so long as you're compatible with the latest iOS you don't really need to worry about much else. Android is completely different. People could be running your app on anything from gingerbread to lollipop, have from a 1ghz single core cpu to a quad/octa core monster, 512mb to 3gb ram, 600x800 up to 1440x2560 screen res, etc etc.
In other words I couldn't give a **** for iOS, but the app ecosystem is kind of tempting.

So much of this. I have both the devices too, along with a nexus 6 and i really don't understand the hate on both sides. Plus as others have already said the topic is irrelevant on this forum. There is such a thing as discretion of posting.
That said to the OP, iPhone 6 plus is a fine device. Enjoy the great apps, a great consistent camera and great battery life.

Can you elaborate on this? While your statement holds partial truth, it was also ironic that I tried to download a well-known android app on my iPhone. Never, EVER make me feel like I wasted money on an education again!
