i was thinking to buy an atrix , but found droid 3 (xt 860) . should i buy it instead of atrix? the price is just a little higher
please, can someone help? i have to decide in about one hour =/
...well, there's a lot more development with the Atrix over the XT860, that's for sure.

i would stick it out for the galaxy nexus at this point, but thats just my personal opinion. i love my droid 3 (xt862) but yes the dev for xt860 is just showing due to jsut receiving an sbf.
I never had the atrix but I can tell you that the stock droid 3 is hella lagy for a dual core. Especially if you have animations on; actions take a couple of seconds to respond. Hope this helps

thanks for all the feedback, i was loving the design but now i have my doubts if i should get an droid 3.
what is an sbf that you mentioned?
sbf is a basic recovery method back to OG stock. I will say taht the D3 is a hell of a machine. My benchmark scores are very high, even compared to other new devices. Bionic and Razr are very similar to the D3. I wouldnt say that it drags stock. Ive had an atrix, and it didnt score as high on my list as id hope, but you can unlock the bootloader on atrix and do some things you cant with the d3. tough decision, but i already told you what i'd do. what country are you going to use this device in?
im from brazil. here the price diference is huge, from atrix to droid 3, its about 80 dolars, from atrix to sgs2, its aboult 300 dolars.
i had a vibrant, that is gone for good. i spent easily more than 500 dolars fixing it lol (3 broken screens and some others stuffs)
So i dont want to spend too mutch on a new phone... from what i have seen, droid 3 seens to be the more atractive, except by the 512 mb ram. in fact i wanted a motorola phone, but it seens that the choices are limited and problematic. atrix is on market for a long time, and on my country it even doesnt have the oficial 2.3 yet. xt860 have gb, a better camera, the cool keyboard, but the 512 mb ram concerns me. what im looknig too, is for company suport, i want to buy an device that i know at least will have an oficial ICS.
After all, i really dont want an samsung anymore, passed a lot of time with it, my vibrant doesnt even have an oficial gb rom. LG is all about complain, so i think my choices are limited to motorola.
Can you give me a hand?
i understand what you mean. the 512 in the d3 is sufficient. its running faster than my xoom or handful of other devices. i wish i could tell you for sure what to buy. like i said, personally, i will be moving to the galaxy nexus very soon (but im not a GSM user either
)
Yes. I previously owned the Atrix, there were so much problem with it after a few month that I nearly threw it against a wall from all the frustration caused.

so, from this choices, should i move to a d3?
I haven't tried the other phones but I have the Verizon D3 and I put a custom ROM on here and it is nice. The keyboard is very nice to use and it is very possible to make it run as well as the newer Motorola phones such as the RAZR with a mild overclock.

I will say I absolutely love my D3 and am sad it doesn't get more love. Mine has been snappy since even before installing custom roms... plus it's keyboard is exceptional (the main selling point for me, I can't have a phone without a KB!)
I'm quite pleased with my D3.
I was wondering where we bionic owners came from and also what we like / dislike about our old phones and our bionic.
I came from the OG Droid to the Eris to the Droid Incredible to the Bionic. I really miss the development of the og, Eris, and incredible. There was just so much available. And I really miss the simplicity thoes 3 had. And I miss ICS on the Droid Incredible (a fully working 3g data camera working ICS).Didn't like the lack of ram on the Eris and og. Now to the Bionic, I love the omap4, 4.3in screen, front camera, 1gb of ram. What I don't like is blur, the lack of development, and I really hate the way this whole thing is set up with safestrap and having 2 systems. Its just crazy! And having to make sure you come from .893 or .901 before you flash a rom. What ever happened to root, cwm, format the whole system, boot, data, ect. then flash away. Bionic is root, safestrap, and hope you don't screw up cause there is no way to cwm from a bootloop.
Sorry for rant but its just how I feel. And don't think for one sec I don't appreciate what the developers have done cause without their safestrap/bootstrap and roms, this phone would be so locked down it wouldn't even be funny. I have just never seen it like this. Now lets hear where you came from and your likes and dislikes.
I came from the charge which I loved the light feel of the phone however hareare as well as software was lacking but I loved the impossibility of brick unless you are retarred before that it was a epic whitch was nothing special on a side not the charge had a a lot faster 4g speeds I lose about 30 percent of speed on the bionic

I came from the Nexus S 4g on Sprint, loved the phone, but the reception was absolutely terrible I would go on international roaming inside my own house
I cam from Nextel to Motorola Razr to Iphone 3 3gs 4 then Droid Samsung s2 then
Samsung Galaxy S2 SKY i727.
Like the android brighter and bigger screen. Apps are similar but battery drain is definitely worse on the SKY.
Almost returned to Iphone 4s but just didn't see and advantage.
Learning curve for the Droid took about a week to learn, root, cook rom, brick un brick break and now I think I got it almost right. 60 days on droid.

+1, loved my old Charge.
I started with the Droid Eris in the early days of Android. Loved the rom community very much. HTC should have.had better quality control on production because most of my issues were physical. Went through 5 of them before Verizon sent me a Droid 2.
Used the Droid 2 until I was eligible for upgrade. Got HTC thunderbolt and used it for 2 weeks then traded it in for LG revolution. Loved thunderbolt but had random reboot issues.
Hated the revolution. Hardly any rom development for a phone with unlocked bootloader. Even had messed up boot animations that prevented anyone from having a custom boot animation for months after it was released (used some funky rle files instead of the standard bootanimatio.zip or other common boot animations found on Android).
Finally got.fed up with the revolution and paid $600 for the bionic. I love my bionic but admit that Motorola totally screwed it up when you consider that this was the most hyped android ever released.
In the future, I'll probably stick to HTC because they have the best rom development communities. The battery life isn't as good as it is with Motorola but the selection of roms can get me past that, especially when the roms will improve their battery life.

I hate Samsung nor will I ever own one. For what can be said about the bright screen and everything, Samsung phones have some of the most issues.running apps from the android market. I'm always reading comments on 4 star apps from Samsung users having problems with the app. As an app developer, the majority of complaints come from Samsung users. I'd have to say 80% of the problems are coming from Samsung users. They are having issues that owners of other androids aren't having. In many cases, lot of app developers are having their apps rated down because of an issue that is Samsung's fault because the user doesn't realize the problem is with Samsung. With as many devices that are available, most app developers cannot ensure compatibility among every single device as its not possible for us to own every single one to test on. The majority of android app developers are independent and in many cases, are working from home. Since they're not being financed by major billion dollar corporations, they don't have the budget to buy additional devices. This is also a major reason many app developers for the iPhone won't come over to Android even as Android continues to outsell the iPhone. There is also an issue about Android owners being known for being too cheap to buy apps (not sure how true this really is, but it is a real perception. The majority of people who are downloading pirated content never would buy it anyways so the damages you hear about are greatly over exaggerated) .
While Samsung may have some of the sexiest phones, they're like having a Porsche running with bad spark plugs.

I had a thunderbolt, and that's the reason I'll stay far away from HTC from now on.
Here's my response to the rootz thread
" I had a Droid X, and a Thunderbolt before. I loved my X and only got a t bolt for 4g, what a mistake that was. I rarely ever saw 4g with the t bolt, I thought my area had poor coverage and then I got the bionic and realized it was a problem with the bolt. My t bolt also had horrible sound quality, the mic and both speakers sucked. That phone had so many problems (I went through 6) that I won't be getting another HTC anytime soon."
Come on guys. I know there is more stories on where you came from. Keep it coming.

I started with the htc hero than palm pre then htc evo then htc evo 3d then the DROID charge and finally DROID bionic. The bionic has been good to me ....but I feel like I need a little bit more. Im running eclipse 2.1 on 901 but im used to having the development like the evo. There were so many options. Im tempted to get the razr maxx but im afraid something else will come out that's better...even tho it will always happen

The one thing I can say I miss about the thunderbolt is sound profiles. It saved different profiles for the built in speaker and headphones, this is a feature that should become standard on Android.

Your going to find a better rom development community with HTC phones. Its pretty much standard that HTC gets the rom development. If you're looking for the type of community that you had.with the evo, you will have to stay with HTC or get a nexus.

Started with the Eris, then the Incredible, and now the bionic. This is not a bad phone by any means. But I am glad my DINC is still alive and kicking.
Again the phone itself I love. Just as others have said though, the locked bootloader and lack of dev support just ain't what I'm used too.
But I have raging fast 4g for only $50

My roots are simple. Smartphone-wise, I started on Windows Mobile and used a few different HTC phones(8525, Tilt, Tilt 2) over the course of my early experience. Definitely easy to mod. However, I didn't like where Windows Phone was going(still don't), so I made the switch to android with the Droid X. It will always be special to me. I could have picked a phone without a locked bootloader, but I wouldn't have had the same raw power. Only 2 months ago, I upgraded to the Bionic. I wanted to hold out for the Droid 4(missed the keyboard), but Verizon made me a deal I couldn't refuse.
Will be more specific soon.
Wow, I forgot about windows phone. I had the Motorola q and q9m and actually liked em. I didn't like what came after windows mobile 6.1 and 6.5 which is what windows mobile is now.

I am selling my iPad that I regret buying. I want something else. I'm between the kindle fire HD 8.9 and the galaxy tab 2 10.1 are there good reasons to get this over the galaxy? I see the specs difference. But I'm still undecided. Any help would be appreciated.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA
Its a big "it depends"
If you're a prime member, that's a huge + for the kfhd
Its much easier to have a normal android experience on the tab2, but the specs are a lot lower. If you're willing to deal with rooting to get play on the KFHD and dodging amazons updates that break root the KFHD is better device. Or if you don't care about the full android experience and just want to consume media, the KFHD is great. I think only you can answer how important some of this stuff is to you.
Tab2 wouldn't be my first choice unless you got one of those crazy black friday deals on it for a 10" tablet in that price range though. I'd be more likely to compare the tf300t. Much better SOC and cheaper.
Is the kindle that much faster and is the display really look better? I like the idea of being able to expand the storage on the g-tab and I own the s2 and I love it. Whatever I get will be rooted almost as soon as I take it out of the box. Its what I do so that doesn't matter.

I'd tell you to look into the nook hd+ if you're rooting for sure, it has the SD slot, cheaper, but no camera. Can't tell you what the progress is on root though.

I don't like the iPad. The os is so limited. Everything is so slow. And programs crash all the time. The crashing may have been because I jail broke it but either way it just sucked. I prefer android.

Was it an ipad 1? IMO the ipad 3 i have is worlds above the kindle fire HD, except for the price. The kindle is going to be even more limited and slow than an ipad 2-4. Samsung has been known to not updating their software so i'd recommend a nexus tablet if you want to go android.
I returned my kindle. Right now i have a nexus 7 and an Ipad 3. The ipad 3 works so good it's kinda boring, the nexus is completely open and there are alot of mods you can do to it. At this point i would not recommend a kindle unless you really like the amazon interface. CM10 looks like it's coming soon, but there will be lots of bugs, and you have to wait.
Maybe not exactly the info you're looking for, but here's my experience with the various manufacturers..
My current round up of devices include:
1. NookTablet
2. NookTouch
3. Moto Xoom (gave to Dad, but I still maintain)
4. Sammy Galaxy Tab 2 7"
5. Asus/Google Nexus 7
6. Kindle Fire 8.9 (just got this week; they had a $50 off deal one day)
7. Sammy Note I (phone)
4,5, and 6 are the only "current" models; all the other have newer versions.
They all have their pro and cons...here's my opinion on some of them.
Overall, the Nexus 7 is the winner.
If you're looking to run custom roms, the N7 has the widest selection and (more importantly) most active development community.
It also has the fastest proc of the bunch.
Its one real drawback, as you and others mentioned, is that it does not have expandable memory.
The Gtab2/7"..the 4 things it has over the N7:
1. Rear camera
2. Expandable storage
3. I/R blaster
4. A lot cheaper (I've seen refurbs on woot! twice now)
It also has a good selection of custom roms, but the dev community isn't as active as the N7...and that's only going to get worse as time goes on.
It is noticeably slower than the N7!
If you run any rom not based off of Samsung's rom, you lose the I/R blaster.
It's not that much of a loss because the available I/R remote control software sucks.
I've used the rear (and front camera) not more than a handful of times.
As for the Nook:
I would only recommend a Nook if you happen to frequent B&N stores often. Or you have already purchased e-books/magazines through them.
Their stock rom allows you to read any book while in store.
Their "Nook Kids" is available as an app for iOS, but not available for any Android devices except their own Nooks.
From my experience their Kids apps are nothing more than a larger selection of kids books, and they allow you to record yourself while reading the book.
I've run custom roms on it and ended putting the stock rom back on (rooted and Google Play installed of course)
As for the Kindle:
I would recommend if you have already purchased e-books/magazines through Amazon and/or have an Amazon Prime account.
Amazon (AFAIK) doesn't allow you to stream any video through android devices except their own Kindle Fires.
So as a Prime member, I was able to watch Fringe for the first time last night (a title not available on NetFlix).
You can also "check out" a lot of books without purchasing them.
I did root and get the Google Play store installed on this too.
I most likely won't be installing any custom roms on it.
Not because I like the Amazon UI or anything...but simpy because:
With both the Nook and the Kindle, you get value added services (like being able to read books in store and streaming content not available on other devices/roms)
So for me personally, I'm a big Amazon user, and am digging my 8.9 and the Prime features.
If I was looking for best specs and most open, I'd probably get an Nexus 10
Geekybiker said it best: " I think only you can answer how important some of this stuff is to you. "
I own a GT 2 7, and theres a catch about the SD memory expansion and is that you cant install applications or application data on the SD; not at least on stock rom; the expansion its only useful for media (music, movies, docs, book, etc..) not for apps.
Regards.
It all depends on the features you want now, and or later.
If you like The Fire HD, it has amazing dual speakers and is a great multimedia device, but is limited at the moment due to the Amazon ecosystem. But both the 8.9" and 7" variants, are having custom roms being developed for them, because the bootloaders have been cracked. So if your willing to wait for the goodies, then go with the Kindle Fire HD.
If you want something with more of a all around Android Experience now go with the Galaxy Tab. In my overall Opinion if it maters, pick the Kindle Fire HD either model size.
I ended up ordering the gtab 2 10.1 I want the expandable storage for movies and pics. 16gb is fine for The rest. Thanks to everyone for their input.

I think it's a pretty strong phone for it price, the phone has any defects?
What I mostly want from the phone is a strong battery that will last a day at least, to be smooth and everything else is just a bonus currently using mytouch 4g and it's fine but kinda slow with a real bad speaker :\
I'm not playing any heavy games if I'm playing games at all. mostly care about browsing and general usage.
or there's anything else in it's price? (280$)
Thanks in advance
The battery is decent but if you stick the razr MAXX battery in it it becomes awesome. And if you unlock and run aokp or cyanogenmod it's very quick and responsive. The speaker is pretty good. I like the **** out of it. Its my favorite out of all my phones.

First off, it's a Motorola so sub-par battery life is somewhat expected.
However, one can easily get away with a good 12~15 hours. (Possibly more depending on how and what you use the phone for.)
If you're willing enough, you could go for the MAXX Battery mod and get an ungodly amount of battery life...
What else was there... Oh yeah, GPS is a little screwy on any 4.2 roms, so be prepared if you're going to flash one.
Other than that, there are a ton of tools around the forums to help you get the phone how you like it...

Couldn't find any other phone that seems as strong as this one. Only xperia arco hd but it doesn't have support in this forum so I'll rather get this one.
Except for the battery there's something else that made you not recommend it?
And if 4.2 roms have problems with the gps, there's any good 4.1 roms without bugs?
In my mytouch 4g I have heating issue when plugging in headphones and the phons restart itself dveru once in a while, the screen is fflipped sometimes sometimes.
I would like to know if there's any rom issues with this phone before I buy it.
Thank you all for your help.
The 4.1 roms run fine including gps. And for 4.2 there's a work around for the gps that works on about 65% of people's phones. Regardless this is a great phone and its a shame att and motorola sent it to fail while Verizon gets all the flagships.

Lucky us for having this forum
So for 4.2 it's either working gps or not working at all? Or is it working for everyone but hardly working?
There's a process to follow before flashing a 4.2 rom to keep gps working if not then it won't work. Navigation wise it won't locate except for through wifi.

This phone has several advantages: 1. Compatible with all networks unlocked.
2. Up to 20Mbps with excellent signal in good service area/big cities.
3. Easy to repair( 1 T5 screwdriver fits all screws) 4. Compatible with every app/emulator/ROM/etc. I have tried.
5. Beautiful screen. 6. Good quality manufacturing makes phone solid and resistant( paired with otter box defender series,
Phone is prepared for urban life) 7. Beats audio pro(once rooted)(extensive tests yes its good).
8. Device spoofer/hack APpS work. 9. Runs ps1 perfect. 10. With winamp pro eq,
Volume can be increased for music. 11. Gets LTE on T-Mobile per paid unlocked
Where available. 12. Low price where available.

Disadvantages: 1. No matter which custom ROM you install right now
They all have glitches and none work right with vehicle mode( Navigation Dock attached, GPS, intermittent
Freezes/ lags-with stock ROM you can disable bloatware and uninstall with uninstaller).
2. Hardware limitations prevent 42Mbps on Tmobile- throughput maxed at 20Mbps.
3. No gyroscope.
I absolutely love this phone. I've had this phone for a few months and have had little to no issues with it. Now that I've downgraded back to ICS and have lapdock support I'll most likely not change phones any time soon. Best phone choice I've made since the Droid 1

Hello I was wondering if this Nook (either HD or HD +) is worth the money. Especially since the special price is on. How is the battery life? Lag? Is it better than the Nexus 7 once CM 10.1 is installed? (Emmc) The lack of Corning Gorilla Glass and NFC. Is very sad.
It "supposedly has better battery life" than the Nexus 7.
I want to be able to root my tablet install a ROM, overclock it, and consume books and music w/light gaming on the side
Edit: What the? The [Q] is in the wrong place. Haha
Edit 4:07 CST -Took the plunge and bought a HD, it is a lot faster than I expected from video reviews and such. My software version is 2.0.5 what is the most recent?

I don't have a Nexus 7 but did have the Hisense pro for a couple of weeks (which is supposed to be the same) which I returned for this tablet. You can root and as of right now there are a two Roms. People complain about lag but I must have gotten lucky or I am not as picky as others I don't see it. I would buy one based on price (actually bought two) a good little tablet. There is no custom kernel yet they are working on it but that does mean you won't be overclocking yet. Gaming is pretty decent for the games I have tried. Buy one and try it the return policy at B&N (best buy and walmart too) is two weeks so if you don't like it you can return it.
