GPS Fix problem - Galaxy S Advance I9070 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello s advance owners my gps cant fix any satellite that started when i ported from Pure Vanilla which is stock jb based rom to cm10.2.
At cm my device could't find any satellite as it did at pure vanilla so i decided to flash HarshJelly but this condition didn't change.
I have faster gps and tried many "edited" gps.conf files but with no luck.
What can i do now?

Try fixing it with GPS status from play store

I tried this several times with no success :/
I think the only solution is to flash stock jb with odin,i don't know what else to do.

Factory reset, wipe cache and wipe dalvik cache. Did you do that on ROM change?

Ofc i did all these before i flashed HJ rom but as it seems problems from cm followed me at HJ too.
I think the only solution is to wipe everything, format every partition and reflash HJ rom.

Same here

Try with full stock, if that does not work - it might be hardware.

In my case the problems started with the official upgrade from stock GB to JB with KIES. Since then I've flashed stock JB with Odin, go back to GB, JB again, stock and custom, always with the same result. I must say however that during all this process I got it working once and it was fine until I rebooted the phone, from then I've never got a fix again. I am no expert but I doubt it is a hardware issue since GPS test or GPS status usually sees one or two satellites, but never a fix...

Try to change NTP Server, set it for your country. File is the same as on our device. You need root, some root explorer and text editor. ES file explorer has it both for examle.

I've tried that, in fact I have tried pretty much everything I found on XDA claiming that would help to fix the GPS. No success. It's frustrating, working on GB, upgrade to JB, same day is not working. Eventually one day decides to work on JB, reboot the phone and never worked again... any suggestion/guess?

I just want to point out one thing, that no one here mentions. For proper gps fix, you need to have compass and accelometer working properly. Actually you got to do calibrations in "novathor settings" and "gps status" side by side all until accell in gps says 0g and compass stands still. Only then you can expect normal gps fixation.

Thanks for the tip! The GPS status I got it but the "novathor settings"... I searched a bit and, isn't it only for CM roms? I have a i9070P with Pure Vanilla and Cocore-EP kernel. Any alternative way?
I don't know if it's relevant but going to *#0*# > sensors, all tests seems to be passed even though all values change like crazy when the phone is just standing on the table...

Hmm, I don't know... if GPS status calibration don't do it right, you could try with some other tool from playstore, I heard some user had success with compass calibration in Advanced Tools.

[Q] Phone is wigging out, need techsperts help.

Hi guys,
I have been searching the forums for 2 weeks now trying to fix this myself, but I have put my pride in my pocket and am asking for help.
Backstory: Rooted phone, flashed CWM, used tons of custom froyo ROM's (doc roms mainly) and most recently Darky's 9.3 (awesome).
But then i decided I wanted Gingerbread (this is where the trouble began). Gingerbread worked just fine, but as there is no custom roms, I flashed back to 2.2 (obviosly screwed something up), because since then I have been plagued with process com.whatever.android.somethingelse has stopped unexpectedly. please try again.
please don't ask which force close message I am getting, lets just say, I am pretty sure I am getting them all!
I have flashed stock 2.1, custom 2.1, stock 2.2, custom 2.2's, I even went back to gingerbread a few times trying to fix this ***** of a problem. I tried re partitioning just the .pit file and then the other 3 files seporatly. NOTHING WORKS.
So, I am calling out to all you guys and girls who are heaps smarter than me to please help. the phone functions, turns on, make or receive calls and texts (not mms), emails work sometimes, but if I turn the phone off and on all the settings are wiped and I need to reload all the user details.
Oh, I should also add another major issue, I cannot use the internal memory for anything, I cannot take pictures unless I select the external SD card, I cannot install apps from market or .apk. I cannot even move data to it when its mounted on the pc.
I am completely lost. please help me.
And thanks in advance.
I
C'mon guys, I know there is a lot to read, but please, can no-body help me?
Sounds like it might be a dead internal sd card. You said you tried a re-partition with 3 file firmware? That should fix pretty much anything. I think your only option is to return to samsung at this point.

Thanks for the response.
is it possible to fix myself?
As Samsung will not cover it, even if I flash the stock Telstra ROM, it will still show that it has been rooted?
In doing your research, I'm sure you've heard of the internal SD problems that plague the i9000, are you by chance with Bell Mobility? This line concerns me..
"Oh, I should also add another major issue, I cannot use the internal memory for anything"
When I experienced multiple FCs (force closes) and incompatible system UID's, I tried flashing every kind of ROM there was with every kind of PIT file as well to no avail. However, one in particular worked for me and others. It is usually referred to as a full ROM. It contains the .csc and .sbl in it as well as the usual ROM contents.
The ROM I used is called FULL-i9000UGJH2.tar. Note, flashing this ROM with a pit file (be it 512, 513, or 803) wouldn't help me at all. What fixed the problem was flashing ONLY the ROM file in ODIN. Unfortunately, I can't find the thread where I found this ROM. I suggest searching around for it, if you can't find it PM me, and I will up it somewhere for you.
I'm not sure if this will help with your specific case, but its worth a shot. Also, wherever applicable, do a factory reset, clear your cache, and a full wipe install.
Good luck.
[edit]
Do a complete wipe and install with a stock 2.2 or 2.1 ROM in ODIN, there will be no evidence of a root.

I do a factory reset, wipe cache and data every time, however after doing all of that and flashing a new rom, it still has my google account details in the phone?? this is wierd, as I factory reset from recovery mode AND wipe all data from within the phone? Any suggestions?
Edit: and no, its is an Australian Telstra i9000

I am using odin, this is the wierd part. I have tried repartitioning, not repartitioning, I have tried 512.pt 803.pit, full wipe and reset from both in the phones settings and recovery mode. reboot it, go through settup wizzard (which eventually force closes requiring me to reboot), go into accounts and there is my google account still set up???
Edit: also, I cannot find a file called FULL-i9000UGJH2.tar, I am downloading i9000UGJH2.tar as we speak, but i doubt it is the one you were reffering to, if you are able to point in in the right direction, that would be ace.

If you're entering your gmail address in during the setup wizard, our google account will be linked. If you're not setting anything up and it is remembering your info, then something is definitely fishy.
I would flash back to a stock rom, and see what Samsung or your provider can do for you. In all honesty, the only thing I would be able to suggest is flashing and wiping
[edit]
When you download that ROM, open it up (using a program like WinRAR). The point of a full rom is that it contains
-cache.rfs
-dbdata.rfc
-factoryfs.rfs
-modem.bin
-param.lfs
-sbl.bin
-zimage
I'm unsure of any incompatibilities between the Canadian and Australian versions, but I will upload my copy for you to try.

I'm not entering any info during the setup wizard?
could it be something to do with the file system gingerbread uses? these issues only started when I went back from gingerbread to froyo? (and before you ask, I have tried going back to gingerbread with no solution)
I may have to bite the bullet and shoot it back to Samsung... or just buy another one! would love to try FULL-i9000UGJH2.tar if you could remember where you got it?
Thanks again for your help.

I seem to have remembered it being in this thread, which is why i had it on bookmark, but I'm not sure if the link has been removed or if i had been mistaken since I can no longer find it. I'm uploading for you to Rapidshare, where you can download as a free user...~30 mins . Again, I'm not sure if there are modem incompatibilities or not since this I am in Canada, and you are in Australia.
Another place to check may be here...

The way you're referring to accessing this internal SD....are you flashing your ROMs to an external microsd card?

Hey mate, no go, i got some functionality back on the phone, but still force closes and I cannot save anything to SD (or install apps).
another email account (an exchange server account) that was previously deleted has appeared back set up and working (I have not been able to set this up for a week), it appeared on its own which leads me to think there is a hidden partition on my internal sd, hence I cannot access it. must be something to do with Gingerbread.
Thanks for all your help though.

Hi mate,
I have tried that several times, i think there is a hidden partition thanks to Gingerbread.
I would be sure that your internal sd card is screwed but since everything worked fine before gingerbread something else has probably happened. Also your data wont delete and that seems to be the source of the problem. Try to install the lagfix from k13d and see if it had any results. This should reformat all partitions on the internal sd.

Just updating to this now, will see how it goes
i've chosen not to wipe cache and apps etc, would a full wipe be recommended or will i be fine?
i ALWAYS do a fresh install including wiping everything because then it rules out having any problems in the future... once i do a full fresh install, i just redownload the apps and transfer the videos again OR leave all the stuff on the memory card as the memory card doesnt get touched while its flashing away lol

I have been using this rom since it got posted, my wifi with it is terrible though, it drops loads, could it be the fw in any way or is it the tablet it's self?
i know the issue isn't the wifi it's self because my phone is also connected and when my tablet's wifi drops my phone is always still connected and i can still view web sites etc..
Any suggestions?
i have not yet experienced any wifi issues :S... im not sure what it could be unfortunately, try a full wipe flash

I can confirm there is wifi issues but not just on this FTF, I used your file to get to stock from cm11 (which had no wifi issues for me) I then relocked bootloader and used sonys tool to fully reinstall the latest firmware. In both instances of official ROM I had random wifi hang ups, not so much full disconnection but it did happen once randomly.
Point is, its nothing to worry about on your part its just a problem with official in general.

[Q] Phone reboot upon starting Google Maps

I play around with my phone, testing roms, kernels and tweaks until google maps stop working on my phone. the last time it work was when i'm using Maclaw's CM11.
I decided to return to stock rom and recovery using odin and thats when the problem started. I followed the steps from here.
The phone reboot each time I start Google Maps. I tried going back to CM11 but the phone reboot each time I start Camera (previously it was working fine). (I may hare to try CM11 again to see if Google Maps working in CM11)
Then I try to revert back to Original Stock Rom With Kies following the steps here but the problem persist.
Any idea to solve this problem?

Do a real format data + media in recovery.
After that, try again flashing .

Hi,
Is real format data + media in recovery means wipe data/factory reset in recovery? I believe i did that before flashing stock rom using stock recovery.
I had an idea just now and I try several apps from play store, compass apps and any apps that uses compass and each apps reboot my phone upon starting. Logically Google Maps also use compass. So this might be the problem but strangely i could use Waze with no problem at all.
If compass related app is the problem, how do i fix this?
Thank you

Hi
real format isn't the same as wipe data/factory reset.
Real format = In recovery go to mounts and storage --> format real data and media
Strange that the compass isn't working. Try to uninstall non standaard compass apps from your Phone. And try google maps again.
Install app one by one, and see what app is causing the problem.
If not, it's recommend to do a full clean install again at your Phone.

Hi
I thought that GPS wasnt working on any app
Dead GPS = if you dont get a lock anymore and the phone isnt searching for signals.
Maybe you can try GPS locks software.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eclipsim.gpsstatus2
This will help your GPS to update the location off the sateliets.
When app opened. Use the icon in the right below corner.
Tools --->> calibrate both option.
If its taking to long , use the third option in tools and download
After that calibrate again

This is the partition that enables the phone to boot, as the name suggests. It includes the kernel and the ramdisk. Without this partition, the device will simply not be able to boot. Wiping this partition from recovery should only be done if absolutely required and once done, the device must NOT be rebooted before installing a new one, which can be done by installing a ROM that includes a /boot partition.
Since my problem related to kernel panic, I assume there are problem with kernel. Is it possible to format /boot from cwm recovery and then flash custom rom such as Carbon or CM from external SD or maybe internal SD? Is CM rom includes a /boot partition?
I tried many things today including flashing stock, custom rom, format, wipe and reset. Then I had this idea to check sensors available. I use Phone Tester (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mtorres.phonetester&hl=en) and Android Sensor Box (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=imoblife.androidsensorbox&hl=en)
I also test *#0*# in the dialer. Select sensor, phone reboot.
The result are as follow:
1. GPS is working fine as per screenshot of Phone Tester
2. Orientation Sensor and Magnetic Sensor reboot the phone every time I click to test them.
Is there any fix or ways to disable these sensors? Please help
Thank you

the problem is at your proximity sensor i think. Because the orientation & magnetic sensor keeps the Phone booting.
What cover case have you on your Phone? The Original? or a flip back cover?
Sometimes it could be a bad cover that blocks the sensors and keeping it crashing.
If you have a flip back cover. just try the sensors without it.

You can do a boot partition format . But keep your Rom and recovery ready on your external sd card, when something go wrong.
If you have formatted boot, install recovery and rom. After that Reboot.
But the problem isn't the boot partition.
i think your sensors are faulty at your Phone.
Try to install stock rom on your Phone and go to the store with it.
Because it's not custom rom/ kernel / recovery related anymore.
Because the stock rom have the same issues right?

Yes, stock rom with device status official also having the same issue. The warranty period is over so nothing much to do now if the problem is faulty sensor. Thank you for your help. I guess this phone is going to be my play/tweak phone.

No thx.
Glad that i could help somebody.:fingers-crossed:

[Q] Simcard pin lost on CM11

Hi,
I have a problem wit the CM11 nighly builds. Since the Kernel was updated (begin of Feb.) I must insert my PIN number of the simcard more than one times a day.
Often I must insert my pin 2-4 times at one day.
I have also clean the caches, but the problem is still there.
Also the usage of the idoak Kernel does not fix this Problem.
Have someone the same trouble. How can I fix this problem?
I'm quite sure you didn't flash the ROM in a proper clean way.
I think it's ROM related and not kernel related. Try a full wipe with cache cleaning as well as formatting system under mounts and storage in cwm.
Then flash your ROM + Gapps and maybe your kernel.
Backup your current ROM just to be sure, you can restore /data after clean install with advanced restore to get your apps etc back.
Sent from my LG-P880 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I had the same issue. I resolved it with newer nightly and clean install.
Cheers
Ur loosing connection to network, probably due to ril problems. Check my sig for possible solution
I have done yesterday the following.
1. Backup current ROM
1. Clean /system
2. Clean Dalvik
3. Clean cache
4. Wipe All
5. Install CM11 Nighly
6. Reboot (phone comes up)
7. restore /data from backup
But now before 30 Minutes I must insert my Pin number again.
It seems that the problem came when the phone wakeup from deep sleep.
It might also be caused by a faulty or not properly inserted Sim card.
Sent from my LG-P880 using xda app-developers app
Yes maybe, but I have this problem not before update.
I have also fixed the sim card with a tape in my phone.
Problem still there
Hi,
the problem is still there.
I have now make a complete clean installation with cleaning of /system too.
But sometimes I must insert the PIN again.
Currently I have installed the nightly build 11-20140308-NIGHTLY-p880 with the default kernel.
I have enabled debugging and logged the reason. The log file is attached in this post.
Can anyone please look at the logfile.
For me it looks like that the phone disables or lost the radio.
I hope you can now help me.
Works with another ROM
I have installed last saturday the ROM NAMELESS and the SIM problem is not there, all works fine.
So there must be a problem in the orginal CyanogenMod 11 version.
I think the developers from the CM11 should search the problem.
By the way, the NAMELESS ROM has much better battery usage.

Although your problem seems to be solved, I wanted to be sure that the hint from Flying_Bear was understood.
What is important in @Flying_Bear signature is not the process of flashing, but his method of patching the RIL, which is described here http://direct.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=46751745 .
I tried it, and believe it makes a huge difference.
Did you try that?

No, I did not try that, because I won't change this every time I install a new nightly. I think this is so, is it?
I see, that the RIL in other ROMs like Nameless ROM work, why did the CM developers not change it?

Yes, that is understandable, When I had that problem I considered the opportunity of tweaking the RIL every time I updated a Rom, then since many, many nightlies and with iodak 9.95 kernel I did not see baseband wakeock appearing again, so I almost forgotten the matter.
Though I believe that it is not necessary to replicate the process described by Flying_Bear from the beginning to the end. All you have to do is getting a modified "telephony-common.jar" then, after each upgrade, copy that file into /system/framework, give it the correct permissions/owners and reboot.
Mind that I did not try this method, and don't know if it makes sense at all, maybe @Flying_Bear can give us a confirmation. If it worked, it would be no much hassle.

Unfortunately, telephony-common.jar is usually incompatible from nightly to nightly (usually). With practice, the process takes only a few mins. Try upgrading weekly instead of nightly
I have now tested the RIL changes from @Flying_Bear for two days.
It works and I must not insert my SIM-Card pin again.
I see in official CM thread that some people have currently also RIL problems. Did the CM developer know about this problems?

not sure if they know there are specific problems, but the solution was presented to them back for cm10, and arcee rejected it due to many mentions of eternityproject inside the code itself (which normal users don't care about, as they care about stable RIL, and don't care who contributed)

no wifi after root

Hi, after rooting my Xperia Z3 Compact using the guides found here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-...58xx-cwm-based-recovery-6-0-4-7-root-t2890231), I cannot seem to turn on Wifi again, only LTE connection works. When I try to switch the WIFI toggle, it just goes faded blue but never turns it on or connects. I also trye full data/factory reset but no luck.
Anyone else experienced something similar?

Wich FW are you on? I updated to .77 then went ubl and root wich is made for the 105-update. Then i got the exact same problem as you have. I went back to stock (.77) with no root and my wifi is back in the game... Waiting for DooMLorD to update the root patch/script or what it might be to the latest .77 update. I GUESS this is the problem... If you manage to solve it using the .77-update please share. I've read that if you flash the Adrokernel is can handle .77 and wifi with root. But not 100% sure...

Yes, that's right. This probably happened because I was on the .77 FW as well. And it's not actually rooting that causes the problem but the installation of CWM recovery.
However, I managed to resolve the issue by doing the following:
1. going back to stock ROM
2. installing the CWM again
3. installing the newer Androplus kernel (v10 from androplus org website, this forum does not allow me to post the link yet, not to worry about the chinese letters, works fine with English)
4. rooting the phone again
It seems all to be working at the moment so hopefully this way I'll have the best of all worlds.
Hope this can help others with the same issue.

Wonderful!
I have not tried this myself because i am afraid the Androplus kernel wont give me the same performance from the battery as the stock kernel... Please keep on posting your findings

After a few days of using this solution described in my previous post, everything seems to be working fine, no more Sony crap, rooted phone with some customizations I wanted. I would even say that the battery lasts longer, definitely not less.
So far, I'm really happy with it.
Cheers

I am having the same issue as you, mind sharing where or how did you went back to stock rom? Thank you so much!
I have flashed AndrPlus Kernel and instead of wifi, my mobile data is gone. No real improvement..
@roklenardic how did you go back to stock?
