[Q] Phone reboot upon starting Google Maps - Galaxy S III Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I play around with my phone, testing roms, kernels and tweaks until google maps stop working on my phone. the last time it work was when i'm using Maclaw's CM11.
I decided to return to stock rom and recovery using odin and thats when the problem started. I followed the steps from here.
The phone reboot each time I start Google Maps. I tried going back to CM11 but the phone reboot each time I start Camera (previously it was working fine). (I may hare to try CM11 again to see if Google Maps working in CM11)
Then I try to revert back to Original Stock Rom With Kies following the steps here but the problem persist.
Any idea to solve this problem?

Hi,
Maybe a corrupted data partition.
Do a real format data + media in recovery.
After that, try again flashing .

Hi,
Is real format data + media in recovery means wipe data/factory reset in recovery? I believe i did that before flashing stock rom using stock recovery.
I had an idea just now and I try several apps from play store, compass apps and any apps that uses compass and each apps reboot my phone upon starting. Logically Google Maps also use compass. So this might be the problem but strangely i could use Waze with no problem at all.
If compass related app is the problem, how do i fix this?
Thank you

Hi
real format isn't the same as wipe data/factory reset.
Real format = In recovery go to mounts and storage --> format real data and media
Strange that the compass isn't working. Try to uninstall non standaard compass apps from your Phone. And try google maps again.
Install app one by one, and see what app is causing the problem.
If not, it's recommend to do a full clean install again at your Phone.

I did format real data and media. still not working. I also install Maclaw's CM10.1 using steps from here, Camera is working, unlike CM11 but Maps still not working.
I also tried several compass app. Result are the same. Non of the apps works and phone reboot as soon as the apps start.

I'm on carbon rom now for some testing. The only app with gps needed on this rom is Google earth.
I tested that app, and all is working fine here.

Hi
I thought that GPS wasnt working on any app
Dead GPS = if you dont get a lock anymore and the phone isnt searching for signals.
Maybe you can try GPS locks software.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eclipsim.gpsstatus2
This will help your GPS to update the location off the sateliets.
When app opened. Use the icon in the right below corner.
Tools --->> calibrate both option.
If its taking to long , use the third option in tools and download
After that calibrate again

You might be do a real format again and reflash your rom.

I'm currently using stock rom with stock recovery. Flash it with odin with "Auto Reboot" and "F. Reset Time" options checked. Wipe data/factory reset. Wipe Dalvik. Device Status: Official.

I read about /boot partition. It says:
/boot
This is the partition that enables the phone to boot, as the name suggests. It includes the kernel and the ramdisk. Without this partition, the device will simply not be able to boot. Wiping this partition from recovery should only be done if absolutely required and once done, the device must NOT be rebooted before installing a new one, which can be done by installing a ROM that includes a /boot partition.
Since my problem related to kernel panic, I assume there are problem with kernel. Is it possible to format /boot from cwm recovery and then flash custom rom such as Carbon or CM from external SD or maybe internal SD? Is CM rom includes a /boot partition?

I tried many things today including flashing stock, custom rom, format, wipe and reset. Then I had this idea to check sensors available. I use Phone Tester (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mtorres.phonetester&hl=en) and Android Sensor Box (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=imoblife.androidsensorbox&hl=en)
I also test *#0*# in the dialer. Select sensor, phone reboot.
The result are as follow:
1. GPS is working fine as per screenshot of Phone Tester
2. Orientation Sensor and Magnetic Sensor reboot the phone every time I click to test them.
Is there any fix or ways to disable these sensors? Please help
Thank you

the problem is at your proximity sensor i think. Because the orientation & magnetic sensor keeps the Phone booting.
What cover case have you on your Phone? The Original? or a flip back cover?
Sometimes it could be a bad cover that blocks the sensors and keeping it crashing.
If you have a flip back cover. just try the sensors without it.

You can do a boot partition format . But keep your Rom and recovery ready on your external sd card, when something go wrong.
If you have formatted boot, install recovery and rom. After that Reboot.
But the problem isn't the boot partition.
i think your sensors are faulty at your Phone.
Try to install stock rom on your Phone and go to the store with it.
Because it's not custom rom/ kernel / recovery related anymore.
Because the stock rom have the same issues right?

Yes, stock rom with device status official also having the same issue. The warranty period is over so nothing much to do now if the problem is faulty sensor. Thank you for your help. I guess this phone is going to be my play/tweak phone.

Sensors not calibrated correctly

Hey guys,
This problem is here longer for me, I've already sent back my phone 2 times, and they won't resolve the issue.
My problem is that the accelerometer is not calibrated right. One side is ok, but in landscape mode it's calibrated horrible. For example, when I use the app 'Google Sky Map' holding the phone in portrait mode just works ok (the horizon is in a straight line). Switching to landscape makes it bad, the horizon is now from 1 corner into another corner...
As I said before, i've already returned it twice to HTC via the shop I bought it. They say I can calibrate it in the program settings. But that's the problem, in al lot of program's / games i cant. Also the plain android homescreen rotates irritating because of the bad callibration.
So, I googled about the issue and couldn't find any solution. But I did find some folder / file (akmd_set.txt) where the sensor info is stored. I have rooted my device, and am running the latest CyanogenMod on it. I already wiped, returned old (non root, stock) android versions on it, rooted again, flashed cyanogen. But none of this works....
Does anyone know a solution to calibrate my settings? Can I get that file, edit it on my PC and flash it back in maybe?
If yes, please explain me
Thanks in advance!
Don't take my word for gospel or anything but....
As far as I know, that file is auto-generated, meaning you can delete it and it will force the accelerometer to recalibrate itself.
I think Cyan's and RA's recoveries both have an option to "Wipe Rotate Settings" which I've done several times, so I know it's safe. Try this if you haven't already. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the reply, trying it out now.
Did the wipe rotation settings option I have to see if it worked, because none of my aps are working now.... they all have an plain android box icon and clicking on them says the app is not installed.
Yeah, i've got Apps2SD and the SD card is loaded, how to fix this? Then I can check if it worked with the Sky Map program.
Oh, and if not, how do I remove that file via terminal?
EDIT: Damn, can't get the apps to work again my whole phone seems broken now. I even can't install new apps :S
EDIT2: Just checked my SD card, it is still working good at my PC, but not in my phone. At once the phone can't read SD cards... Please, does somebody a solution?
It sounds like you wiped ext through recovery. Search on how to explore your sd card as root and see if your apps are there. You may need to reflash your rom unless you have a nandroid backup you can restore.

Nope I didn't do that, it was just a file in the CM Rom that was changed. The phone wasn't able to read the SD card, but the PC was and in recovery mode it could read it too... So I just flashed the CM Mod again and it's working now.
Problem is, my sensors still don't work Please does anyone has a solution, or a how-to on how to change the file?
Sorry you're having so much trouble with this, but it's beyond my scope of knowledge at this point. Hopefully someone else can check it out. If the Cyanogen IRC channel is still around you might be able to find help there.

[Q] soft boot loops after installing more than 150 apps!!

as the title says,I'm getting boot loops after installing many apps,my research shows that this is not app related,I didn't checked with another rom or kernel,I checked both intern sd and extern sd and results are the same.I'm using Rocket rom V 22 with AbyssNote kernel V 4.2 and ThunderBolt script v2.6.1 with addons.so the question is how to fix this restart loops, and to be more specific, these r soft boots, meaning the screen goes black and then just the boot sound with no animation and the lockscreen appears after that.any help is so appreciated.
how do you know it isnt app related? you are using the same apps on both internal and sd ad getting the same issue
hard reset and reflash the rom and see if it occurs then or try a different rom/kernel
becuase I tested -the hard way, installing 1 by 1,and different combinations-and hard reset dosen't solve the problem, may be I test with stock rom and kernel.

if this is happening on stock and custom rom.....then this should be one of the app problem. Some app is interfering with the system and making to to stop unexpectedly resulting in soft boots ! You will have to check every app and identify the one causing problem!

This boot loop is my problem too. Too many apps. Android says can't manage that much appsa and suggests to get rid of some apps I definitely need, like k-9-mail, whatsapp... Every time different apps. Rooted or not. Newest stock rom.
Happens again and again after put off the phone.
When I deinstalled a couple of them there is a chance the boot loop passes.
Any idea beside deinstall most of the apps? Please help.

Random Restarts

I experience random restarts despite of the ROM I have flashed. I have tried JellyBeer ROM, PA ROM, Stunner ROM, Sweet ROM and many more with their respective default kernel. My stupid phone even restarts in CWM and trying to flash a new ROM.
What could be the issue? How can I get this fixed?
Random restarts are quite common with ROMs under development or if not flashed properly. Update the ROM to a stable version or re-flash the ROM wiping cache, factory reset and see. You can flash a stable ROM to get rid of the problem.
All wipes and reflash may solve your problem...

I always flash a stable version of the ROM with a full wipe. Even I format preload, cache, system, etc. Whatever ROM I flash it does not help.
But I simply can not understand what cause the restarts on my phone ?
No harm in just re-flashing a ROM. I face random restarts on the PAC currently, this is a common problem. Else try one of the stable 4.1.2 TW ROMs. Hope you don't face a restart then!
It might be a app you are using. Install catlog from play store and find the cause. You say it happens on all ROMs you flash. Is there any particular app you restore

If you're getting random reboots on TW and AOSP based Roms, I would suspect an app driving the system nuts.

Once I got the phone it was working fine. I'm not sure about the power button too. I'm working on it to figure out whether it's the kernel or the ROM the power button.
You can try the following:
1. re-flash the samsung stock rom ....i would recommend you go with Official ICS Rom 4.0.4. Perform a clean data wipe, cache and dalvik cahe.
2. Do not use any other apps other than whats included in stock rom. Observe carefully for 2-3 days.
3. If all goes smooth, you can try installing well-known apps like facebook, whatsapp, etc etc
4. if you still have issue, i suggest you change your battery. Go for the official samsung battery only. Observe your phone's behavior.
Hope it helps you
HAve you ever tried to change the battery. I saw lots of Note batteries gone bad after 9-12 months. I could be the reason. Not sure though.

GPS Fix problem

Hello s advance owners my gps cant fix any satellite that started when i ported from Pure Vanilla which is stock jb based rom to cm10.2.
At cm my device could't find any satellite as it did at pure vanilla so i decided to flash HarshJelly but this condition didn't change.
I have faster gps and tried many "edited" gps.conf files but with no luck.
What can i do now?
Try fixing it with GPS status from play store
I tried this several times with no success :/
I think the only solution is to flash stock jb with odin,i don't know what else to do.
Factory reset, wipe cache and wipe dalvik cache. Did you do that on ROM change?
Ofc i did all these before i flashed HJ rom but as it seems problems from cm followed me at HJ too.
I think the only solution is to wipe everything, format every partition and reflash HJ rom.
Same here

In my case the problems started with the official upgrade from stock GB to JB with KIES. Since then I've flashed stock JB with Odin, go back to GB, JB again, stock and custom, always with the same result. I must say however that during all this process I got it working once and it was fine until I rebooted the phone, from then I've never got a fix again. I am no expert but I doubt it is a hardware issue since GPS test or GPS status usually sees one or two satellites, but never a fix...

I just want to point out one thing, that no one here mentions. For proper gps fix, you need to have compass and accelometer working properly. Actually you got to do calibrations in "novathor settings" and "gps status" side by side all until accell in gps says 0g and compass stands still. Only then you can expect normal gps fixation.

Thanks for the tip! The GPS status I got it but the "novathor settings"... I searched a bit and, isn't it only for CM roms? I have a i9070P with Pure Vanilla and Cocore-EP kernel. Any alternative way?
I don't know if it's relevant but going to *#0*# > sensors, all tests seems to be passed even though all values change like crazy when the phone is just standing on the table...
Hmm, I don't know... if GPS status calibration don't do it right, you could try with some other tool from playstore, I heard some user had success with compass calibration in Advanced Tools.

[desperately need help]Camera keep FC/ cannot be detected

Hi all, i am having a big trouble about the camera.
So i was using the official CM12, but since recently the camera keep FC or it kept saying can't connect to camera,
i decided to change to the other ROM. However, when i changed to Titan Prime 1.1, i can open the camera ONCE. After that same issue happen!!
it is not only the camera, also the screenshot function is not working! It kept saying due to limited storage the screenshot couldn't be taken
So i tried the following methods:
1. Force stop camera app, clean cache+data, reboot => didn't work
2. Install the CameraFiles-Signed.zip => didn't work
3. Wipe the system, data, cache and davik cache and install different versions of CM or Titan Prime 1.1 =>didn't work
Does anyone has the problem or know how to solve this??
Thanks!

I tried the first method and it didn't work. And i used this http://forum.xda-developers.com/mot...dows-tool-moto-g-2014-xt1064-restore-t2957167 method to restore to Stock.
But both method doesn't work still. When i open camera on stock rom, it said camera is busy. If this repeat please power off and restart your phone,
but the screenshot is now functioning.
I tried to flash just the Titan Prime 1.1 rom without PA Gapps, camera worked once. But after i install the gapps camera fc again.
Again i tried to restore to stock ROM, problem keeps occur. Then even i flash the Titan Prime again without gapps,
camera fc again !
It appears to be crashed with gapps and i don't know what to do next....

power off, and remove yours sd card.
power on and give a try.
if no good factory reset without the sd card and give a try.
you may have something in the sd causing it.

Don't know was guess...
But i remember now, that my camera not the phone camera a digital camera that i have do that some times to some SD cards, probably from that i guess it.
Good that works. Try to format the card or use other to see if the problem is 100% resolved. Maybe a file in the SD is causing it, so be careful to what files you put back in the card.

It was the DCIM folder from older version of the rom caused it. I moved that folder to my pc and problem resolved.
I think the path just messed up. Thanks for the help anyway. I tried to fix it for two days!

Hi guys i need help again. After a few week, without flashing any new roms, the problem pops out again.
Could it be problem about the path of camera? It is no longer in system/app
And if so how should i move it?
I searched for a long time and people said it could be permission problem.
I tried to use TWRP to fix ( which ends up in bootloop even with busybox),
and i try to clean wipe and install rom,
or even restore to stock rom, it still doesn't work.
Anyone can help.....?
the camera error
Hi guys so i tried to capture the error.
It said something about getting nullpointer, anyone know how to fix this?
I switched to CM12 rom, it has camera2. apk in system/app.
But it seems that the system still can't find the camera!
