Do not take the ota, wait for the sbf firmware and flash with rsdlite, I have seen and read more problems due to accepting an ota, patience my friend. No guarantee that you will have an issue but its better to be safe than sorry

SAme here, but what If I unroot via toolkit? Dangerous?

If you have deleted system apps, flashed a custom recovery or things like that then either SBF back to the original 4.2.2 firmware or 4.4 when available. If its only root you can just take the OTA. It will kill root during the process.

I'd like to know this, too. Updated to KK not knowing that downgrading was impossible. So now I need to find a new safety net in case I mess it up.

Easiest way is to just check what version rom you are using. Unless you are using custom rom, it'll either be MLG for leaked version Kitkat or NC2 which is the official latest Kitkat. I think the OP was talking about the leaked version Kitkat which has the old (better) bootloader.
The latest NC2 has updated bootloader which make it impossible to downgrade or root.
If you are still on MLG and never updated your bootloader (by installing NC2), then you should be able to go back to MJ5 JellyBean. Everyone or most of us on official NC2 is stuck with this version and regretting taking the OTA update.

Just keep stock rom without root, and wait for OTA
Edit: If you want the update and dont wait for OTA just flash 4.4.2 Tmobile version and download the OTA (Tmobile version too).
Then install recovery twrp and root your phone using the twrp.
I did that !!!! Now I've 4.4.3 rooted

If you have root...Im 95% sure that you can't receive/install OTA. I've 2 moto x...... The first one updated via OTA and the second one updated via "manual" OTA. My 2 moto x is unlocked bootloader with no root.
I rooted my 2 moto x after the 4.4.3 update [emoji6] You know........ No risk.

You will probably we waiting for a bit. The full FXZ/SBF files are usually leaked days, weeks, or sometimes even months after the OTA rollout completes.
I can't give you an ETA (no one knows), but I can tell you there is no leaked 4.4.4 SBF/FXZ for you yet...

[Q] From 4.4.4 to 4.4.2

Hi guys!
i have a moto x with bt unlocked. i've updated my moto x to 4.4.4 few weeks ago when i received the OTA.
i'd like to flash to stock rom back with rsd lite to have a complete factory reset, but the 4.4.4 stock rom german version isn't already available.. so can i flash the original firmware my moto had before the OTA (german retail 4.4.2) with rsd lite and then update it again to 4.4.4?
i'm not sure i can flash 4.4.2 over a 4.4.4...
thanks a lot!
Since you took the 4.4.4 OTA if you try to downgrade you will BRICK! There are warnings all over this forum.

Hello. You have the Moto X XT1052? If you have the Moto X XT1052 with the bootloader unlock you can downgrade from 4.4.4 to 4.4.2. Download the firmware 4.4.4 Verizon and extract the files motoboot.img and gpt.bin and copy them to the firmware 4.4.2 Retail.en.DE and flesh with RSDLite. At the end you will have the Moto X with firmware 4.4.2 Retail.en.DE

You are not given a forum where freedom of speech. You have tried as I did? I tried and it works. Just because I did the downgrade and not an important person of XDA does not mean it does not work. I do not care what you think the guide works. I'm not going to argue with people who express opinions without trying and consider themselves smarter and more prepared than others.
@solocchi
So you did it! But what did you gain? You are unlocked.
Please do this:
Make your own thread for your exact X variant & carrier. Warn others of the risks for other phones. Then "have at it!"

Opinions are one thing, but you are recommending downgrading to people, just because it worked for you. Which can, and has bricked many Moto X's. It's all over this section, threads and posts from members who tried and bricked. Some never could fix their devices.
I REALLY hope you understand that you simply got lucky. Great! But now since you got lucky, you are advising people to downgrade as tho its perfectly safe. My friend, that is incredibly irresponsible. And how will you feel when they come back to you and say their phone is bricked? Will you have it repaired for them?
I hope you get my point. You got lucky, as have some others.... But far more people, on XDA anyway, did not get lucky. Google "moto x bricked xda" to see the stories.
I hope you will reconsider advising people to downgrade, and just count yourself lucky and keep it to yourself. Again.... Unless you want to compensate the people who try and fail. ?

Guys, don't listen to solocchi - I think he wants people to brick their devices.
You want freedom of speech solocchi? You got it. But you had better not expect people to not disagree with you. We have freedom of speech too.
Hey guys: I put my phone in the microwave for 60 seconds, then under water for 5 minutes. Then I dropped it and stepped on it.
It still works fine and it's totally safe!! Now who wants to try??
LOL
Disclaimer: don't actually do this.
Now see what I did? I followed the rules by adding a disclaimer as required by XDA.
P. S. No, it's not freedom of speech here. This is a website, ran by people... People who make and enforce rules . Passing out dangerous or malicious advice can get people in trouble. Trust me. ?
Don't worry guys, with the factory reset I'm happy

Are you unlocked and/or rooted?
What version are you on now?
What version are you trying to upgrade to?
Have you previously upgraded and then downgraded?
Are you using RSDLite or just mfastboot?
Xt1028 is the Verizon Moto G, correct?
This is an xt1028 that is for claro Puerto Rico I believe its the same as the att version, now I'm on custom rom liquid smooth 4.4.4 but I've been able to install custom 4.4.3 versions

Well when I do a google search of Moto XT1028, it says it is the model number for Verizon Moto G.
The Moto X for Claro Puerto Rico is the XT1058, which is the same model as for ATT.
So your bootloader is unlocked. What version of the bootloader are you on? You can tell this by booting into the bootloader mode - it will tell you what version of the bootloader you are running.
Sorry you are wright about the model, well I believe the boot loader is 30.b7 sha-bae5e20

Did you check and that is it for sure - 30:B7?
30:B7 is the 4.4.4 bootloader so you have already upgraded your bootloader and your partition table to 4.4.4- you cannot downgrade those and that is why you are getting the error - you are trying to downgrade your partition table to 4.4.3. You cannot do that.
Gpt is the partition table.
What are you using, RSDLite or are you flashing manually using fastboot/mfastboot?

I hate to barge in but it sounds to me that this phone was updated to 4.4.4 and then downgraded to 4.4.3. Isn't upgrading back to 4.4.4 in these situations what causes a brick?
I'm not smart enough to say this with conviction but I don't want to see him brick his phone.

Unfortunately, there is no 4.4.4 for claro Puerto Rico.
What are you using as your custom recovery? Did you make a nandroid of your 4.4.4 system before you flashed the custom ROM?

I just want to be clear here, you flashed the 4.4.4 firmware for the XT1050 to your XT1058 and this resulted in you having the 4.4.4 bootloader version 30:B7.
You were then able to return to stock 4.4.3 by flashing a 4.4.3 nandroid that you created using TWRP prior to flashing the 4.4.4 firmware for the XT1050, correct?
Correct now I'm able to install custom ROMs 4.4.3 and 4.4.4

Gtk. I was able to do the same thing - i.e., upgrade to 4.4.4 so my bootloader was 30:B7 and then go back to a 4.4.2 nandroid. My bootloader stays at 30:B7 but no problems with going back to a 4.4.2 nandroid.
So it seems that as long as you have a nandroid of an earlier android system, you can downgrade the system without bricking.
Seems to be at least I've been able to install stock base and aosp 4.4.3 and 4.4.4 but using rsd only 4.4.4
