Another question -
Can you use the Gear as just a watch. If I chose to use a my N5 but wore the gear just as a watch - Can this be done?

No. You asked if it was possible to use the Gear on its own.....And yes, it will only serve a watch though.
Yes, you can use your Gear with your N5 but not with all the functions.

Yes, you can use the gear just as a watch. Due to the fact that it runs android and you can side-load I can see that become the most powerful feature in itself compared to other watches.

The distance is not as good as my earlier Sony Smartwatch but I found centrally locating the phone works now. I was expecting a lower range though due to the difference of Bluetooth standards; the Sony is a BT 3 device compared to the Gear which is a BT 4. Also, even though the watch does work over the range, S Voice isn't that good and you can hear garbled up conversations.

Cheapest way to pair with Galaxy Gear?

So there are different options out there now.
Any suggestions on what the cheapest way would be to have a device that pairs with the Galaxy Gear and provides notifications/calendar/etc via Gear Manager?
I have an iPhone, but I wouldn't mind having something to carry around that will pair with my gear.

I believe S3 will be even cheaper.

Gear 3? wow.

I found this. Don't know what to think
http://www.t3.com/news/samsung-to-launch-a-phone-enabled-gear-smartwatch
Wow is right! Gear 3 with its own SIM! I wonder if it's a stand alone?
That's actually pretty cool. Looking forward to more news about it.
How would you hear your conversation? Up and down would be more like a radio.

I would hope via bluetooth headpiece or headphones, as the Gear 2 is going to pair with these to play music from its new standalone mp3 player. I would want one for sure, and already am highly excited to get my Gear 2, so a independent phone version would be a huge step up for things like cycling and jogging/walking. Battery life might be an issue of course, and everyone always wants things smaller, but the Gear 1 is a perfect size for me.
This would be great but the only problem would be battery life and usability with such a small screen. An idea for an accessory would be a screen that could pair with the device somehow. Basically reverse the roles. Watch is the main device with a Bluetooth screen that you can keep in your pocket or something. Just an idea...

[Q] Is the "Nexus 6" a Bluetooth Smart Ready device?

Is the "Nexus 6" Bluetooth Smart Ready?
The answer seems to be NO when I check Bluetooth's official website for Smart Ready devices.
However, the Nexus 4, 5 and Nexus 7, 10 seem to be compatible. Which makes me wonder if this is a typo or Google consciously decided to skip this for the Nexus 6.
I'm thinking of buying a Smart Ready sensor for the Nexus 6 and need to figure this out.
Thanks,
Mikel
Yes it is. It makes full use of the Bluetooth 4.1 spec. It's part of what makes the Wear devices so handy, their connection uses less power than if they used 4.0.

That's what I have. I use the H7 with Endomondo.
The H7 doesn't show up in the regular BT device search, but the Smart-capable app can see it and it pairs through there.

I just got it and it works perfectly with Endomondo and Polar Beat, however it does not connect with Runtastic PRO.
Thanks!
Indeed, doesnt show up in the BT device search. But what is the smart-capable app? thanks!
Was able to pair a Polar H7 with the N6, using the Polar Beat app. Next hope to find how to get a recovery heart rate after exercising.

Now worthless

So when I got my Galaxy S7 I also got a Gear VR. I've recently upgraded to an S8+. I see that I can order a part to swap out the micro USB for a USB C connector. Great! So I order it. I'm happy that it came in the mail. No instructions - no big deal. I find instructions using our trusty friend Google. The instructions don't match the Gear VR I have. I can't swap the connector out. Doing some more searching I find there are different models of Gear VR. Mine is apparently the older model that doesn't have a swappable connector.
Oh well. Maybe I'll take the damn thing to the shooting range. We'll see how it holds up to a round of .500 Smith and Wesson magnum...

No. Just a bit bigger. Smith and Wesson 500 magnum.
well, there is always the "dremel" and a hack it till it works? Or ebay? Not that you would get the equivelent of the "fun factor" of just using it for target practice, but there are always alternatives to consider.
Buy a headset used, Ebay always has them.
Ps. I have a Sig P238 and a Henry survival rifle (AR 7) :good:
I have a black vr headset, and got the side, swapped the usb_C off a box at a tech store but it doesn't fit the headset I have, the little tab prevented it from slipping onto the connection. So I skipped it and it looks like it should all be working right, but Alas... No go. Phone doesn't seem to register it's been connected into the headset...
Any thoughts guys?
Forget the dremel....use the Magnum!
FWIW I didn't blast it to smithereens with my hand canon. I gave it to a guy at work to give to his wife. She has an S7.

You don't need custom ROM. What car you have?
Basically your cars entertain system has to support it. The phone itself has it. See the link below with explaining how it works. Each car manufacturer has different options and features. My subaru legacy works without any problem with my S10.

Then get the s8 and s10 together and go through the settings to see if you have the same. You might have to manually adjust your s10 settings. I would look in Advance settings or similar.

Strange. Skoda's system is the same as VW, so should be ok. I would check the Audio manual then how to properly connect the phone. Tbh I thought it's easy peasy but took me about half an hour to do mine and had to go step by step using the Audio manual.
