I'm using a T-Mobile/Unlocked version of the Moto X on AT&T. Should I see 4G or LTE on myMoto X's connection at the top of the screen?
The store rep managed to remove all data from my line and remove my unlimited data. After 30 minutes on the phone with AT&T CS, they've got me working, but I think the system is only provisioning my SIM for HSPA. I see 4g in the status bar, and had a 4mbps speed test.
It shows "4G" for HSPA and "4G LTE" for LTE. The "LTE" text is small though.

I have T-mobile g flex but in my provider we dont have 4G network yet. when I connecting to network the icon of 4G appears. in the network settings I have marked gsm+wcdma. In my othed phone (LG G2) it conects with "H+" icon. how can I bring back the H+?
4g is h+ icon. No other one unless you mod. 4g lte is obvious lte

There was a mod for the Note 2 that gave accurate data signals. I haven't checked if it will work for us because honestly I've been kind of waiting for Kit Kat before I started working to much on a ROM, but if I get a chance I'll take a look and maybe just make it for JB until the update arrives. I'm with you I hate being lied to and told everything is 4G by T-Mobile.
It just says 4g at the top and the speed test is about 8mbps down, which isn't really LTE speeds. On my previous phones it would say "4g LTE" by the bars, but my moto only says 4g.

Settings > About Phone > Status
Note what is under "Mobile network type"
Are you on AIO or another AT&T MVNO? If so, they throttle you (usually) at exactly 8Mbps...
Guess I just had to restart the phone. Working fine on LTE now.
So i took out the Sim from the Iphone 6 im returning and popped it into this bad boy. Curious as to how you guys are setting up the phone so you get the correct LTE speeds. Im barely getting 9down whereas my gf's galaxy in the same room is getting 20+ down. wonder if i did anything wrong
It depends on location. I've seen consistent 50+ down and 20+ up with T-Mobile and default APN.

Nah something is def wrong. Phone is barely usable without wifi. What APN settings are you guys using for tmo?
fast.t-mobile.com it should also give you the settings automatically if you just press the "Internet settings" button.

Thats what i been running. Could it have something to do with the sim? Was i supposed to get a sim for an unlocked phone? Urrgh so frustrating
That's pretty slow, your gf has the tmo also? Pop her sim in your phone and compare. The sim shouldn't matter though.

shes got a galaxy s4 so that wont work. however i still got the iphone 6 around. when i put the sim in that phone i get regular LTE speeds.
Oh, I just noticed in your speedtest result you're on H, not LTE. Under "preferred network mode" do you have "4G (preferred)" enabled? If you're in a border coverage area it could be that your phone is dropping you down to HSPA+ instead of staying on LTE.
For a test, go to the dialer and do *#*#4636#*#* then go to Phone Info and change it to LTE Only and test it to see if it stays on LTE and what kind of speeds you get, by default it's set to "LTE/GSM auto PRL" so if the LTE connection isn't strong enough it's going to drop you down to H+.

These Are my options under preffered:
wcdma only, gsm only, wcdma (preffered)/gsm and 4g(preffered)/wcdma/gsm. i dont see lte in the list
per your test, when I switch to LTE only in phone options the I lose all bars and signal totally craps out.
So when you switched to LTE Only, after a second or 2 you didn't get a 4G symbol above the signal bar? Do you ever see 4G? Mine switches to 4G within about 1 second of switching to LTE Only.

negative. just all bars gone and a big red x. you have this phone on t mobile also? did you do the us firmware update?
Yea, I'm using tmo. My phone is running 23.0.A.2.105
I got 2.93 maybe which one is 105??
I was worried during my first day of owning the phone because my Z1c showed LTE above the bars and now this Z3c shows 4G. I was worried that 4G != LTE.
As a recent convert from Sprint's unlimited roaming, I knew I might have issues with T-Mobile's 50MB limit, but I wasn't expecting this. On a recent trip to New England I was surprised to get the 40MB message and a few minutes later the 50MB exhausted message. My signal indicator showed full bars of 4G and no roaming indicator. My Status in Settings said I was not roaming, but it did say that I was on AT&T with an HSPA+ signal.
Every other phone I have had showed the 'R' for roaming, and the European Note 4 user manual shows an 'R' above the bars for roaming, but the T-Mobile manual doesn't show that. For now I have turned off data roaming, but how am I supposed to know that I am roaming if there is no indicator and my status says I'm not?
As far as I'm aware. With T-Mobiles simple choice plan you shouldn't roam anyway since it's nationwide.

Nope, all of the plans have data roaming limits. The Unlimited Nationwide 4G Data plan that I have only allows 50MB: http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-3299

Here is a screenshot of the situation I was referring to. As you can see, it shows full bars of 4G, that I am not roaming, but that I am on AT&T. How can that be? And if it is correct, why did T-Mobile ding me for using roaming data?
Also, according to the T-Mobile Note 3 manual that I found online, it doesn't have an 'R' roaming indicator either. Is that true?

Interesting. It looks like it's at the bottom of their site too. That's kind of unsettling that they limit a nationwide plan. Regardless of roaming, you're still in the country.
I have a Xfinity Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and today I noticed out of the corner of my eye that the LTE signal had a + next to it when sending a message. Then it went away. I then ran speedtest and it showed again. There isn't anything online about Xfinity or the Note 8 showing LTE+. Any info?
I believe it comes up if you're phone is using "carrier aggregation" so when it connects to more than 1 band. Usually occurs when using data
Yup as said, the + is when carrier aggregatuon is active. LTE+ is the same as 4G+. The major US carriers don't use seperate icons for CA being active. I'm on T-Mobile USA & changed mine to the LTE/LTE+/H icons.
I want sure as I have never seen that before or even having those speeds unless I am connected to my home WiFi which is 300 Mb/s.

How did you switch icons? I have the 950FD and I prefer the LTE than 4G icons. Also, what's H?

You can use substratum with the paid andromeda plugin (for Oero) or sungstratum (for nougat) for unrooted phones plus another plugin called subtweaks (I think its called) to change 4G to LTE. (I use it when I was on nougat but not I haven't used it on oreo.)
For rooted phones just substratum and subtweaks.
H is HSPA, HSPA+ which is major upgrade to 3G networks. Speeds around 21 Mbps or so.

To use alternate stock Samsung or carrier data icons edit the following line in cscfeatures.xml then reboot, need root & unencrypted CSC though. Values: LTE, TMB, VWZ, ATT, SPR. No value or deleting the line will give you 4G/4G+. Most US carrier icons won't have a separate icon for when carrier aggregation is active and is why I use the LTE icons.
Code:
<CscFeature_SystemUI_ConfigOpBrandingForIndicatorIcon>LTE</CscFeature_SystemUI_ConfigOpBrandingForIndicatorIcon>
H & H+ is for HSPA & HSPA+, it's what most US carriers call "3G". If you use US carrier icons, you will get a 3G icon or a 4G icon without LTE next to it for HSPA & HSPA+.
