[Q] Help, phone not turning on or connecting to PC - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, Newbie here
So long story short, I water damaged my Xperia Z, bought a second hand one with a cracked screen and switched the main board into the water damaged phone.
Now the problem is that the charging light comes on when it's on charge but it's a dull red. When I take the phone off the charger the LED stays on. I've tried the Down+power button reset but it only makes the light blink a few times. I tried connecting it to PC companion but the computer won't read the device but the LED turns bright and the computer indicates there's a device attached (for about a second then disappears) which isn't recognizable.
I'm all out of ideas. What is the problem and what can I try to fix it?
Thanks

Sorry I meant up instead of down haha

dull red charging light mean the battery is really dry..try connect your charger until the light change, sometime it takes several hour for the battery to get charge again after it been dry for too long..also why you don't change the battery altogether with your motherboard? maybe your original battery still functional...

[Q] Phone bricked, red led flash twice

So I have my Z1 for 5 weeks now and I used some times in my pool in home to take some pictures, I've always been cautious with the flaps and everything, I even immerse it in rice overnight when I use it in water just to be safe. Today I used normally, took some pics with girlfriend, everything worked great, after taking the pictures I left it on the table and about 1 hour later I tried to use it and it was blank (me and the phone were completely dry by that time). If I connect to wall charger or USB the led flash red twice and then blanks. I'll leave overnight charging now but I have no idea what to do. Tried turning off using the red thingy, turning on holding volume up or down but nothing works.
Can anyone help or I will have to send it for warranty?
Oh, and I checked and not a single drop of water entered the phone (apparently).

You seem a little paranoid about water, if water had messed your phone up you probably wouldn't even get a red flashing light (as the motherboard would be fried) so you don't need to worry about water damage.
Firstly, presume everything you had on your phone is now gone. Sorry!
Follow these simple steps:
Press & hold the power button and volume up until it vibrates 3 times, then you can go ahead and try to turn it on. Quote me when you reply so I can see it.
Could you also plug it in to your laptop, does the computer read that a device is being connected?
If that doesn't work, we'll try some other stuff and explore some threads! Lots of links for bricked phones. Sounds like it's bricked..

Good thing it's not water!
Did it for over a minute and nothing happens. I've tried that earlier too.
Plugging it on the PC makes the sound of device connected, the red light turns on for a while (about 2 or 3 seconds, no blinking) and then it turns off with the sound of device disconnected.

Have you tried plugging it in with the Sony software? If you have that downloaded..
You'll need to do some research... http://forum.xda-developers.com/sitesearch.php?q=bricked phone
I've found a few things, users with the same problem... looks like some may have fixed it.. http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z1/Z1-won-t-turn-back-on/td-p/390335
http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperi...mpletely-Dead-already-PLEASE-HELP/td-p/380387
Have you checked the charger? Try putting it on charge for a few hours then try everything again. Do you have more than 1 charging cable? try the different cable.

I've already tried some solutions there and will try others now.
PC Companion won't detect phone. Same with Update Service.
Worst case I'll leave it charging for 12 hours. Thanks for the help, I'll come back later with some feedback. I'll probably get in touch with warranty tomorrow morning.
I'm experience this problem with xperia z after washed the phone. I thought is water damage so I'm just leave my phone. Buy new xperia Z1.... But after 1 month i check back my phone surprise!!!! Is revive again....
Almost 12 hours on wall charger and no sign of life. Still just blink twice the red notification light.

Try all the steps again, otherwise I really not sure what's happened. Some people report days later it comes back on, etc. Hopefully someone else may have an insight to what's happened, but personally I don't think your phone is buggered.
Has this been resolved? I just ran into a similar problem with my week old Xperia Z1 Compact. It was working fine until one afternoon, it was hot and wouldn't turn on. Got the blinking red lights and won't charge. Also won't do anything with the Power and Volume+ Combination.

Xperia Z without LCD

Hello, I cracked digitizer of my Xperia.
So I took it apart and wanted to fix it.
I heated, took LCD and digitizer off, tried to separate them nicely, but I'm pretty sure I made a little bit of damage to LCD.
Anyway, now I wanted to try phone without screen before ordering parts (you know, maybe I damaged motherboard or something... )
So... I plug all the cables, make everything back except digitizer is off now, but LCD is on.
I try to turn it on, it vibrates and that's it. Nothing more and after waiting over 10 minutes it still doesn't show any signs of life. Plugging USB cable from PC or ac does not show any signs. I can't do anything until I unplug battery and plug it back.
If I try to stick USB cable before turning it on, red led flashes brightly and that's it. What's even more interesting, if I unplug the cable, led keeps flashing and I have to unplug battery again.
I can see green led flash for a second when holding volume up and plugging to PC and blue led keeps for long time if I plug to PC while holding volume down.
So now you know my situation, does it have to be like that or no?
Maybe there's a back signal from LCD I mean if it's not connected, phone does not work or something.
Before everything phone was working perfectly.
Hope to hear some advice, thank you.

Its looks like a mo-bo issue for USB and LED issue. Check whether all connectors are in place. Also for digitizer issue i thing either the connector is not properly attached or the flex cable is damage.
Any more opinions?

[HELP] Xperia Z brick?

hi,
sorry for my bad English,
I bought Xperia With a damaged touch. The phone is normally turn on. the touch did not work. I decided to take himself for the replacement of touch (glued to the LCD). I disassembly phone . before removing the motherboard still plugged in the battery to see if the battery will not hurt the dismantling of the display, the phone is turned saw the Sony logo and disconnected the battery (do not know if it was a good idea). After removing all nicely warmed the screen and slowly removing pieces touch. Unfortunately, at the end it turned out that a little too much it warmed, because the screen began to appear discolored, so were pissed, I ordered a new display and in the meantime, as I wait for the touch I wanted to see if it works. I have connected to the display board, tape, buttons and battery. Turned on, the phone vibrated and enough black screen. So I stitched it to "poop" and I wanted to run, but it was all the same. Computer can not detect, etc.. After some time, as it was plugged into usb turn on the red light. Ive loaded software program SUS, and after you press the power button flashing red LED 3 times. I left the phone on the charger overnight from nokia (1200mA), but it does not improve, after that, that when you try to turn the vibration and again, so much. The phone is detected in fastboot mode (blue LED) and flash (theoretically green), because as I press the phone turned off and hold down my Vol- is a second red LED will flash immediately changes to green and then turns off the computer recognizes the phone as SOMC Flash Device (SEMC not SOMC) and in this mode for the update service is normally upload the software to the end, in the Flashtool the same situation. I do not know if it's important, but after every uploading the software when you try to turn this unfortunate flashes red LED 3 times as if the battery is discharged. Could this be a defective battery? Phone before you got in my hands was lying unused for some time. How it got it it plugged into the car charger (840mA) for around 40min +/- and normally work. I do not remember whether if it was on some LED.
Why could you buy a Xperia Z with damaged touch? And why you try to repair it yourself?

If battery was working properly before the experiment that you did there must be something wrong that you must have did.
Try a different battery and see whether it solves issue or else you must have damage the mo-bo
My Xperia dead after remove battery.
Stuck in flash mode.
Fastboot and flash mode works. (Blue and green led)
unbrick from flashtool?

[Q] Came back from repairs, won't boot/charge now.

The audio jack broke so I sent it for warranty repair to get replaced, which they did. I got the phone back yesterday, couldn't boot it up, completely dead. Stuck it in the charger, red led, low battery charging icon goes on. Few seconds later it goes all dark, then shows the red light and the battery icon again and repeats forever. It sat like that for the past 20 hours with no change. I tried the volume up power button combo, nothing. I pressed the yellow button next to SIM card and 3 vibrates (only worked when it was connected to the charger), then we're back to the same red light charging icon deal. This time I could take the charger off and the low battery icon would display afterwards too, though. After that the volume up power button combo worked and 3 vibrates but the same red light battery icon thing persists.
Tried connecting it to a PC as well, before the resetting business it did absolutely nothing. After, windows says the phone has been connected, the phone displays green light for a fraction of a second, then changes red and it's just dark after that. PC Companion does not recognize the phone.
Do I just send it right back for another repair or what?
What was the point of the repair? :|

Yes, I would say so. I had a "sudden death" problem with mine not long ago. Sent it to Sony and they replaced the battery.
Same thing happened to mine, change the battery would fix this?

Yes
Do we have a more comprehensive thread on this "sudden death" / wont boot / wont charge issue?
I've added some notes / questions on page 34 of the help thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/help/sony-xperia-z3-help-thread-t3164306/page34
NB will charge if you first remove and externally charge the battery
Then with Z3 on charge, connect the battery, will get orange or green led and charging led display. But still wont boot

Flashing Red Light ONLY when charging, phone will also not boot up!

My z3 compact will not boot up. Trying to hold the power button will not start up the phone, I then plugged in the charger for it to charge and it is constantly blinking a red light. I left it to charge for a while (about 1-2 hours) without any disruption and when I tried to hold the power button to boot it up again with the charger still on it I get this picture of a low battery.
I have tried the method of taping the power button down while having it charge to try to boot up the phone, but that does not seem to work? Any suggestions on what I should do? also I do not have warranty on the phone.
Check the indicator located in the bottom flap (where your sim card is). If its not white then water came in your device. If the indicator is white then try connecting your phone to pc and if the pc recognized it than you may be able to repair your phone with pc companion

It looks like sudden death.
Take a look at this thread at the sony forum.

Dear, with the Companion tool you can recover it.
Flashing Red Light ONLY when charging, phone will also not boot up
I i had the same issue these past few days, and i searched almost every part of the internet to find a solution for this problem. Some solutions are so complicated that only technicians only understands, did all the steps on hard reset and etc. I also tried using xperia companion but it didn't work for me at first. my batt died when it was 40% more or less so i assumed that it has battery when it died, as i said earlier i tried using xperia companion but it failed for me. fortunately for me i had an extra xperia z3 so i decided to use the batt of the functioning xperia to my broken xperia z3 that has 100% battery, then i tried using the same method softwre repair on my phone, after a few hours it WORKED FOR ME. I tried opening it and its back to normal.
I hope it worked for you guys, i just wanted to share this because i didn't find any working solutions on the internet.
i had same problem with my z1c is the battery very low (during boot the battery also when plugged isn't in charge) i've solved this with orrible manual charging the battery with 5V directly on battery pins but now it works!
