[Q] Moto X 4.4 BT Issues In Car? - Moto X Q&A

I have an Alpine UTE-42BT stereo in my car and noticed lately when listening to music on my Moto X it seems to skip or "stop" randomly. I found out that restarting the device seems to "fix" it for a short period of time. When using my S III (Media Player) all is well. I have already tried using the X with BT speakers and the issue does not seem to occur here. Wondering if anyone is having any similar issues using the X in car with a BT stereo. I would love to listen to Pandora or Google Play Music on the way to work and can't do it with my S III since it's no longer in service and I only have local music on the device.
EDIT: I will also note that my X is rooted running the stock 4.4 VZW ROM. the only sound mod so to speak is the "extra volume steps" and I have tried disabling that to no avail.

Same issue... Unrooted. Also get no meta data, and the audio profile takes longer to load

[Q] Droid Bionic stuttering audio over A2DP Bluetooth?

While walking, tonight, I paired my Plantronic Voyager 855's to my Bionic for the first time. My thirty minute phone call was flawless. The music I streamed afterwards was not.
The audio suffered periodic stutters that sounded like a buffering issue. The audio was clear, but paused every couple seconds and resumed immediately where it left off.
I did not experience this problem with my Garminfone, Nexus One, HTC HD7, Dell Venue Pro, iPhone 4, or any other handset or laptop before Bionic while using this same headset.
What is your experience with stereo Bluetooth on Droid Bionic? Please post your headset model with your description.
Thank you for your participation.
I use bluetooth in my car, for calls, at the GYM, and watch movies. Haven't had any problems.

BT Audio Issues
All,
I vote we make this issue a hot forum topic. Its a problem that needs fixing.
I have this issue when streaming music via Bluetooth audio. It clicks/skips/stutters
What are you all using for ROMs? I am trying to determine if the issue is related to the kernel.
Stock ROM:
System version: 5.5.886.XT875.Verizon.en.US
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7-g790a33c [email protected] #1

I have a JABRA hands-free in my car (unsure of the exact model) and I have zero stuttering/lag when streaming. Additionally, I am streaming ZumoCast (which I think would stutter more) - the droid x2 has horrible issues with music skipping, even with the music stored on the internal memory. There are a couple scripts that were made to help this (here) so maybe email 0vermind and ask him if he can port it.
Those of you with the issue...
Are you streaming music from your ext sd card?
Those without...
Are you streaming from the internal drive?
I moved my tunes from the sd to card to the internal drive and the problem seems to have resolved, but I was only able to test this theory for 15 minutes.
Same Issue
I have the same issue with my Bionic. Did not have this issue streaming Pandora from my Iphone to the same unit. I have a JVC in dash DVD/GPS and stream all the time. This is getting somewhat annoying...
Nope..works great on my Motorola A2DP head band...
Using a Stock Bionic here with stock Jawbone ERA. I use it with Runkeeper giving me audio hints while streaming Google Music. Had what I thought were stuttering issues but my battery was low. After giving it a full load, worked fine.
Scenario: jogging
Apps: Runkeeper + Google Music
Headset: Jawbone ERA
Location: phone in pocket (running shorts) on the same side as my headset.
I am also having some issues. I use a bt headset all night at work to listen to music from my sd (external) and have no issues. But i also have bt streaming on my car stereo which worked great on my thunderbolt but constantly skips on my Bionic.
I haven't tried moving the music to internal storage to see if it helps, mainly because there are no issues to headset which makes me think there is a compatibility issue or something.
Hoping this is something Verizon addresses in a radio update.
I am rooted running custom roms but the issue was there when still on stock.

Having this problem as well. Using Motorola S305 headset. Sometimes I will experience mad skipping (every few seconds), sometimes it will be every minute or so. Two things I mainly listen to right now are Podcasts through Doggcatcher and music through Spotify (I use premium, so most of what I listen to I synced to the phone for offline use.) I know that Doggcatcher saves podcast files to internal storage by default and I still experience the skipping issue listening to those as well.
Saw a few threads elsewhere saying that having Wi-Fi on while listening might cause this, but it still happens with Wi-Fi turned off.
For what its worth, I was able to access a high-level technical person at Motorola this morning via Chat
https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/chat/chat_launch/
They were not aware of this issue. I also told them about the cell standby problem.
I would encourage you all to visit the Motorola site and communicate the issues so things get fixed in a timely manner.
I have seen this issue with my Pioneer BT Headset in my truck. It works great until about a few minutes into the call. Then the other end is breaking up and they say my voice is breaking up. I take them off of BT and everything is fine.
I have this problem in my car as well. Very annoying. Happens with pandora, gmusic, and local media.

Glad and sad to see it's not just me!
I will check out the site. If you hear anything else please share. It is a manageable issue but one I shouldnt have to worry about on such a high end device
From my extensive testing (my 15 minute drive to work) this morning, i found that if i switch to the Performance Governor, the problem still happens.... but much much less...
I use a sony bluetooth to listen to music several hours per day and have not had any of these issues. I did notice this morning as I was exploring the settings on PowerAmp (the music app I use) and found that I could increase the buffer size. I did, but as I said, I was not having this issue prior to that. Any way, I was just thinking that someone may want to try PowerAmp and increase the buffer size and see if that helps.
Good luck and ignore above if it isn't relevant.

[Q] A2DP Audio Crackle with iSimple Connect (ISHD651)

I just got a new VZW Moto X, (4.2.2) and while trying to stream bluetooth audio to my car stereo via an isimple connect kit (ISHD651), I get a very annoying static/crackling sound, which makes listening unusable. My old phone (HTC Droid Incredible 2) (2.3.7) worked great, with no issue whatsoever. However, the Moto X does work fine with my wife's car stereo (Pioneer DEH-X9500BHS). This seemed very strange, so I did a bit of investigating with a bunch of our devices. The Droid Inc2 (2.3.7), Nexus 7 (4.3), and Wikipad 7 (4.1.1), all worked fine. My Acer A500 (4.0.3?) and the Moto X both exhibited this crackling with my iSimple Connect car kit, but worked fine when streaming to other devices.
Has anyone else seen this problem? Is anyone smarter on bluetooth a2dp that could explain what might be happening here? Are there any other ideas of what I can try?
This is extremely frustrating, as I bought and installed the iSimple kit specifically for this purpose, so I could stream audio and control play/skip from my car stereo, and it was working great with my Incredible 2, but that phone was showing its age.
I've seen some info about other 4.2.x devices having bluetooth audio quality issues, but I wasn't sure if it was the same problem or not.
Any ideas?

I just changed from a 2.3 device to a droid mini running 4.4. I have the same problem. I've contacted Isimple to open a ticket and hopefully see if they will release a patch to flash the isimple connect gateway with. The droid mini works without issue with a bluetooth speaker that I connect to - but does not work properly in the car.
The symptoms are slowed audio, and crackling.

I've tried pursuing the problem from both the PAC(ISimple) and Motorola ends. Never got anywhere. 4.4.2 on my Moto X doesn't fix the problem either. I've pretty much just given up on it working. I guess I'm just stuck with using a AUX cable for music. Voice calling works fine, but bluetooth would be much more convenient

I have a ticket in with PAC. I told them the whole issue, mentioned this thread, and even offered to beta test a patch.
I suggest you do the same. Call them again, open a ticket. They acted like no one had called before about it.Speak to them on the phone.
I'm using aux for now, but surely this can be fixed. I don't think 4.4.2 would have fixed it... 4.4.3? maybe... isimple isn't the only device that got broken from 4.4 though.

Unfortunately, I had some issues with technical support this past friday. I have gotten no indication they have even tested the device, nor that they even want to. They have tested ios7 though, and released a document on how to deal with some connectivity issues with ios7 and the isimple.
PAC is blaming google, and says to contact motorola, but we all know that this is futile.
Looks like I might be ditching this thing soon. I am unimpressed with their willingness to even understand the problem, let alone try and fix it. If anyone else has 4.4 and an isimple connect, I urge you to call in and voice any problems you are having.
Just Talked with PAC
So I just got off the phone with PAC as I was experiencing the exact same issues on my 2007 Classic Chev 2500HD. I spoke with tech support and they told me they were unaware of any such issue. I mentioned this forum, but still said that this is the first they herd of it. I do not have the Moto X, but I am having the same problems with my Note 3 Running 5.1.1 CM. If anyone does find a solution this would be truly helpful.

Pebble interfering with bluetooth playback?

Hi peoples!
I recently got my pebble and installed the app, but since I installed the app I've noticed something odd with my phone. When any bluetooth device connects, media playback will switch from the speakers to the earpiece, and bluetooth headsets wont play/control music anymore. When connected to wired headphones itll play, but the default audio buttons will change the call volume, not media. After 10-30min it reverts to how it should be...at least until a new bluetooth connection is made. This persists whether pebble is connected or not, or if the app is installed or later uninstalled. Is this something to do with the pebble's connection to the phone, and if so is there any way to fix it? I've tried a full system reset on the phone and it's good for awhile, then changes again. Is it possible to just reset the audio drivers?
For some background information, I'm using a Galaxy S4 (Verizon) running 4.3 and no custom/root software. Both the Pebble app and firmware are up to date (as of 12/10/13), and accessibility services are turned off.
I'd appreciate any help I can get, thanks in advance!
What media apps are you using? Some apps such as BeyondPod have a setting on whether they send the song info to the bluetooth device or not...turning this setting off will correct some issues.
Note 3 -- Tapatalk
I got my Pebble two days ago and I've used it twice so far in my car with no problems. I use a Bluetooth receiver which I plug into my cassette adapter since I don't actually have a car system that has Bluetooth. I've also been able to control the music from the watch with no problems. I use a N5.
I got a N4. No problems over here. I would look over the settings of whatever apps you use! And play around with those.

[Q] Bluetooth Issues

Been having bluetooth audio stuttering issues with the Moto X when playing music/podcasts. Only seems to happen in my car with the Chevy MyLink system (Blackberry QNX-based). Works fine with a regular set of bluetooth headphones.
I've tried:
Disabling Wifi
Rebooting Directly Before Connecting to Bluetooth
Re-pairing the device
Turning off NFC
Un-pairing all other bluetooth devices
Turning on the developer option to leave the screen on when plugged in, to force the phone to not sleep
Moving the phone to different places in the car (assuming it was a reception issue)
Disabling the phone profile in bluetooth, leaving only the media profile
Different music players
Playing music from local storage rather than streaming it
None of it seems to help. The only real difference I can see is that the car bluetooth stereo supports AVRCP 1.3 (Track information, song/album title) and the other bluetooth streaming devices I've tested don't.
Does the Moto X just have a buggy bluetooth stack? (this worked fine on my old Note 3) Anyone else have this issue (and possible have a fix)?
I just started using my phone in my car to stream music today, using a CoolStream Bluetooth adapter and noticed the same thing. I have two CoolStream devices, so I was going to do some testing before posting anything (I used the other in my office today without issue). I just received a replacement Moto X (for another reason) today, so I will try it out tomorrow.

Funnily even I have Bluetooth issues.. I own a pair of bluebuds x and after pairing the device the audio was still playing through phone. I have to disconnect Bluetooth and restart bluebuds x and immediately start playing music after connection is established. if I wait for 2 mins again same problem.
From the motorola forums, there is a suspicion that this is related to the charger that is being used. Can you confirm if this happens if you are using bluetooth music on battery?

This happens even when the phone is on battery.
That being said, it does seem worse when I'm using my Belkin 2.1 amp car charger.
Hmm, definitely starting to sound like a bluetooth software problem, hoping this gets some visibility @ Moto.
Works well for me
No issues at all for me in my 2014 Hyundai Tucson.
Huge problems mine connects then disconnects every 30 seconds have called Motorola 3 times going to call again ask for exchange or refund.

I was having the stuttering problem when using Bluetooth in my car (Subaru Imprezza). I use the PowerAMP audio player. Going into headset/bluetooth settings (in PowerAMP) and enabling the "High Priority" setting fixed this.
On my BT headset, it's always been fine. (i use the Motorola S11-HD)
I got in touch with Motorola support. They are replacing the phone. We'll see if the new one does the same thing.

I am on my second phone, it is better than the first, but the problem still exists.
This sounds like a major problem - I have a Sony Smartwatch 3 and it keeps dropping. I haven't tried anything else yet but this is already not looking good. Anyone with any answers running Lollipop?
same if not worse
I went from a moto x 2013 to a 2014 and uograded to lolipop. The stuttering is still on lolipop and i have othwr issues as well. When I try to play a vox it doesnt pause audio and is silent. It also fails to auto connect about 50% of the time. And wven when it does the audio is muted and i have to disconnect and re connect. Using an Alpine ute-42BT
I've been using my Moto X 2014 with a 2011 BMW and I have no issues with stuttering. The version of the car's Bluetooth stack supports AVRCP 1.4. I had some quirks with it and my previous LG G3 (time display was off, and previous/next controls from car didn't work properly). With the Moto X, everything works well and all information is displayed properly.
Does anyone know what version of AVRCP the Moto X has when running Lollipop? It seems like stock Lollipop is still stuck on 1.3 (I can't get a clear answer), but with the time being reported properly, I suspect 1.4 is being used on my Moto X.
I also have issues w Bluetooth. Stutters randomly w my Subaru Impreza, as well as my 2 UE Boom Speakers. Using Google Play Music All Access.
In addition, the Jawbone UP24 wouldn't sync w my phone. Had to restart the phone to push a sync through.
My phone was working fine until today. I was able to pause, play, and skip with my bluetooth receiver, but the audio was still coming out of my phone. This is terribly frustrating. I can't believe such a large issue has been going on for months with no announcement from Motorola.
My pure edition on lollipop stutters when the active display goes off on Bluetooth. Only send to happen then
I've notice using Bluetooth headphones none have the range they are suppose to. I've used Power beats 2 wireless, JBL Synchro's wireless, and Moto Hint. The range and Bluetooth auto seem to lack badly. Using a Bluetooth to aux adapter in my work van I've noticed it skipping as well. Hope this gets fixed its apparent that its a issue with the Moto X Bluetooth.
my bluetooth audio has become worthless. so much stuttering, calls sound like they are under water, moto assist voice in the car is so quiet
i can't stand it.

No Bluetooth Audio Through Head Unit!

Hello, Im new to this site but I've always found helpful answers here so I thought I'd ask a question. I have had LG phones for about 4 years now. The G4, and all the v series up to the v40. I have always had an issue with Bluetooth audio and I've yet to find a solution. It seems to be only when connecting to a car radio. At first it will play fine and then it just stops. The progress bar continues in the music app and the radio says it's playing but there's no sound. The only way I've found to make it work again is to restart my phone, which I have to do at least every other song if not more. Anyone else have this issue or know a solution? BTW it's not just one particular radio it's every car Ive tried it in. But Bluetooth speakers or headphones work just fine. So frustrating!
Semi-educated guess; software issue within car systems?
Sent from my LM-V405 using Tapatalk
Any chance you are using a fitbit or other device that uses BLE? I had that issue, disabled the fitbit app and my music started working. Big difference tho, I could restart the google music app and it would start again...didn't require a phone reboot like you mentioned.
