Hello all!
I've picked my Nexus 7 today from CPW, even though I knew of the existing screen issues. Before buying it I had the time to have a quick look at it, just to make sure hardware wise was fine. Well yes, it was fine, but the colors are not calibrated. I know it's not a new thing, but at least it's not a hardware problem (or at least I hope it's not! ).
I was wondering if any of the apps/mods available in the forum/play store can actually help with the colours of the screen? I know a few years back Nexus One had issues with colour calibration and Nook as well, and there were a few mods developed which helped with the problem.
I'm happy with my nexus and I don't really want to return it, as the new one might have excellent colours but other issues would be present.
Would appreciate some suggestions or we could simply start a discussion on the topic and what could be done about calibrating the colours.
p.s. Apologies if this is not the right thread!
I would try trinity kernel, if u flash his kernel and buy his app u can do what u want to the colors. Its still alpha tho. Im using it on my gnex and its awesome.

Screen Adjuster helps a little, but doesn't do anything about the poor gamma. And unfortunately it makes the UI a little laggy. So probably not worth it. I haven't seen anything else so far.

The trinity kernel with the tkt app does not have the option yet for color calibration.

I must be seriously lucky, the screen on my Nexus 7 is brilliant. I have the Evo LTE, and I'm accustomed to nice screens. I get tons of compliments every day by people looking at my tablet and saying how crisp the colors and text are. I'm usually the one with the issues, but the sun shines on a dogs ass every now and then.
Thanks for the suggestion. I tried it now and i could actually achieve satisfying results but as u said the performance is seriously affected! At least this proves the colours can be fixed with software. I hope Google comes up with a fix of some sort !
About the crisp and clean screens... I've a galaxy s3 as well and I don't even want to compare it with the nexus!

I shined a light on my dog's ass and I saw no improvement in color response. What other steps did you take?
The gamma on mine is way off (down around 1.2 at 48% for me), but as I posted before the colour temp (on mine at least) seems excellent. Swings and roundabout I suppose. Unfortunately Android doesn't have colour management baked into the OS (neither does iOS) so there's no really practical solution at present. If you want proper calibration on a tablet sometime soon I guess the only option would be to get one of the x86 Win8 tablets at the end of the year.

Not on nexus 7, and I haven't seen an easy way to do it on this LCD, also not looking too hard considering there is other stuff to be done that does work.

Thanks for the help!
I think CM ROMs usually offer calibration in the display menu? I think the upcoming CM10 will have it
My cellphone is more vibrant
But it has an amoled display. I usually run the Nexus at 25%, to save battery and because I find it too bright ( indoors anyway) to keep looking at it when it,s at 75 - 100%. If they do send a OTA fix, I might have to drop it down to 10%
Here's a screen shot at 25%. I don't know if a screen shot is accurate to show my screen brightness, but I'm good with the brightness and color.

Googled this and cant find anyone else with this issue. It's starting to get really annoying. I'm hoping that there is a place somewhere in settings to turn this off.

The problem is that this warning happens at something like 40% volume which is way too quiet to listen to anything with my headphones in. Would be nice if there was a way to turn off the warning.
By the way this only happens when headphones are plugged in, it lets you raise the volume normally when they are disconnected.
I'm guessing is just an EU thing.
I have that warning too... I'm in the US. The warning itself doesn't bother me, what bothers me is that my headphone volume is noticeably quieter since the update. And it does occur around 40%, I thought everyone was getting this.

If everyone is getting this I'm surprised that not many have complained really. The popup is really, really annoying to me.
Sort of reminds me of the epilepsy warning they added to ps3 in an update that you cannot turn off and adds about 5 secs to boot time.
Can't say I've noticed headphones being quieter.

Some people don't have to be spammed with the same information over and over again to get the message.
It would be okay if the message came in at a volume that was dangerous but at the 40% mark its just too quiet to be usable.

Google needs to fix the Nexus 4 bugs fast
My state-of-the-art Nexus 4 phone has some major issues that aren't just frustrating - they're embarrassing. The camera will often stop working, especially when used in low light or after taking lots of pictures. I was out for a Christmas dinner with friends last night and we asked the waitress to take a picture of the group. I handed her my phone and ended up red-faced because the bloody camera wouldn't work. I also had the camera freeze with the flash still lit up on numerous occasions last night. How the hell did this get through testing? This isn't a one-off - it happens *every* time I try to take lots of pictures. I expect the camera to work.
Can you imagine the furore if the camera on an iPhone did this? People would be foaming at the mouth.
And the camera quality is pretty poor with many shots out of focus and terrible red-eye on others (with no red-eye reduction mode available) and none of the fancy new image filters can fix it. Yet I'm pretty sure ICS had a red-eye reduction filter.
And I also have a WiFi issue which means my connection speed will drop from 40MB to around 2MB for no reason. I have to toggle WiFi off/on to clear it. Rumour is that it's a problem with the WPA2 encryption used by some routers but I have yet to prove this myself and all our other devices are fine, my Nexus 7 included.
And this morning the phone rang and I couldn't answer the call because the buttons on the incoming call screen simply didn't work. It was charging at the time which I expect is the issue but even so...
In my humble opinion Google needs to get a 4.2.2 update out that addresses issues like this quickly because right now I am seriously considering selling this device and getting something else.
I am not your beta-tester Google. This just isn't good enough.

I feel better now. Sorry if this thread sounds a little selfish but I expected so much more from a Nexus device. My 2011 Xperia arc S might of been a bit laggy but at least it was 100% reliable.
Well then return it.. or maybe learn how to use it first.

No wifi issues here either.
Either yours is broken or some crap app is causing the issue.
Had the camera thing happen to me yesterday. Also have a screen bug that makes part of the screen disappear.
Buy I consider these android problem's which can be fixed. Not Nexus 4 problems.

That's just the price. The actual specs could be considered state of the art.
I'm not sure why the 350 price tag seems to give people a sense of cheapness. This is what a high end phone should sell for. Instead companies **** all over the little people of the world by inflating the price by 300% and lots of times more. Google is merely just sticking it back to those companies and also marketing their ecosystem...

I've had some times where the call and lock screen are unresponsive. Usually there is a home and back button at the bottom for seemingly no reason and I have to hit ”back" to get back to the state where I can use the lock screen.. I'm guessing this is causing the call screen to lose interactivity sometimes as well. I'm suspecting issues related to lock screen widgets/extra functionality/Google Now as none of this used to happen on previous revisions, it seemed to start when that feature set was introduced. I also accidentally bring up the camera from the lock screen which gets annoying, but that's more my fault in the way I pick the phone up sometimes if I "pry" it up when it's sitting against something. Annoying, but whatever.
I have had no camera issues specially yet, though I haven't used it extensively only occasionally.

There is some sort of mod or app that you can use once rooted to increase the decibels. I can't vouch for how good sound quality will be once increased since I'm not rooted but you can always test it out.

Yes, look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2532788. You can either flash a zip or change the value manualy in Root Explorer. It improves the sound volume for sure, i`am using it myself.
And many custom kernels have this option to increase volume output (like faux or Franco). Pretty useful imo...

Hi All,
Got the Z1 last week about 9 dates ago as a replacement for a Samsung Galaxy S3. Generally liking it, though struggling to get used to the size of the handset. One major issue, though that I can't easily sort or find an answer to anywhere.
Basically, when I use a wired headset with inline mic for phone calls, the microphone is way too sensitive. It picks up every movement of the headphone cord, every rustle on my clothes, etc. Tried about 5 different headsets, including a dedicated Android one button Sennheiser headset. All the same. None of these proved a problem with
Anyone any ideas on what's causing it or how to fix it? Is there something simple I'm missing? It's making calls a painful experience.
Thanks in anticipation.

Tried that. No change. S3 better than this? In this respect only. V pleased to see the back of the S3, as it constantly had firmware issues, caused, no doubt. Random battery life issues (sometimes lasting a day, sometimes a few hours), crashes, screen redraw issues, glitchy music playback. I could go on.
