lte in activ s - Windows Phone 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a way to make it work lte s in activ

I... don't even know what you're asking. Is this about the Samsung ATIV S? The SGH-T899M has LTE out of the box, no need to do anything...

GT-I8750 has LTE but its radio version is different than the T899M. SoC comes with LTE but its missing the required drivers.

That's so strange. It's a shame, but a very common market pratice right now.
There are hardware for everything, but they cut out features to sell the phones cheaper.
But I still don't understand why such a device like the magnific ativ s would miss that one.

[Q] Import to Germany

Hey,
if i buy the captivate is it able to be useable in germany? I think it have to 'cause it's quadband but i'm not sure. And i have to unlock it, or? (AT&T)
thx
no answer?
unlock it, Otherwise you would HAVE to use at&t and the bill would be rediculous. If the carrier's bandwith isn't on 1900 you will not be able to connect to 3g. So 2g might be the fastest you will get without wifi.
Might want to check out a galaxy S I9000, that is the international version of the galaxy S line.

+1 The captivate is a crippled At&t version of the i9000
Only thing crippled about it lack of a secondary camera and rear flash. HSUPA isn't a big deal in ATT since most don't have unlimited data, and we do have the audience chip I9000 does not. BUT to OP yes check I9000 might server you better.

Galaxy Note on T-Mobile USA?

I have T-Mobile and am in US.... I really am interested in the Galaxy note and am wondering if it is compatible with T-Mobile's 3G/"4G"/HSPA+ network? I don't know what these frequency bands mean for compatibility ...
It will only work on EDGE speeds. It doesn't have the AWS frequency (1700, 2100) required for their 3G/4G network.

Thank you very much!
interestingly, many sites point to the India specific version of the phone being a "penta band" UMTS phone. and as far as i know penta band means T-Mo AWS support no?

Hello all,
This is interesting. Is there anyways to confirm that Indian version will have "Penta" band?
I read that Note will launch in India on 3nd November. May be will have to wait to find out.

I'm having doubts about that article, SGSII was 34k when it was released in India. Galaxy Note has to top that.

i can't find anything to suggest any carrier in India uses the 1700/2100 bands needed for T-Mo (US) 3G to work anyway. so it must be about something else.

There are many bands for UTMS, and t-mobile USA is the only one that uses 1700.
Odds are, even if it is pentaband, it still won't support 1700. It might, but it's unlikely.

what about the modem.bin from the galaxy s2 4g on the tmobile phone
I've been researching a bit and it seems that the files are about the same on these phones, so I don't see why it wouldn't work. That being said, I am in no way an expert, but I hope someone with more knowledge will chime in on this and give us a concrete answer.

phone frequency band is hardware specific. if the crystal is not tuned for the frequency, theres nothing you can do to make the phone to accept it
I guess I'll have to wait on the Galaxy Nexus then. Thanks for dropping that bit of knowledge on us.

You will only get Edge speeds.
There is no need to confirm anything.
Hardware IS HARDWARE.
I would not consider getting T-Mobile's version of this for the sole fact that they'll mess it up by putting a pair of 1.8 ghz Qualcomm chip in there to support their 42mbps network.
It will be garbage once that happens.
At this point, you either accept it as being Edge only on T-Mobile's network, or you don't get it altogether.
Yeah I know it only works on edge but if a million iphone users are using it then it might be usable but I kinda want a real world test of the Internet and not just specs since that's the only thing that's holding me back

You could ditch T-Mob, or not worth it? I would leave my carrier for the Note.
I made an inquiry about the Note coming to T mobile directly to someone I know at Samsung. He did get back to me and said they have figured a way around the present problem with the present chip configuration and will come out with a version that will be 1700/2100 compatible. BUT, not soon (2012) and probably will be the next version of this type of 5" + smart phone ....... So it is edge only on TMO for now..............
By the time they actually get to bring something like that out the quad core chips will be out and other makers might bring out something similar hopefully.
Howdy all?
Currently I am using Dell Streak which actually was launched for AT&T. So I was only getting TMo's EDGE speed on my Streak. Which for me was not a big deal because I would only have to deal with slow speed while I am either away from home or work.
Some might find it silly, but what I did was, removed my data portion which was with the phone and actually got TMo's 4g hotspot. And I carried both, my Streak and hotspot always with me. Which for me works out alright.

i read that a chip maker was going to implement LTE radio into one chip. also, tmobile's LTE deployment will be a newer version than what verizon has, so ive read. i think it makes use of some sort of all-in-one chip. not too sure on that...
i remember reading somewhere that the Verizon's HTC DNA worked with T-Mobile. i think this might confirm the S4 pro's built in LTE may be.

Yup! Tegra/Qualcomm/Intel are all working on it!
So, my main question is. How will we be able to use the chip if at all? Also why would Google have the chip in there and not use it?
He's right. It says it has Qualcomm LET chip. Maybe the newer Qualcomm processors have the radio implemented. Let's keep our fingers crossed

And also has a ANX7808 SlimPort® transmitter?
And also has a ANX7808 SlimPort® transmitter (HDMI output converter) ?
The ANX7808 is an ultra low power SlimPort® transmitter designed for portable devices such as Tablets, Smartphones, Media players, Camcorders, and Digital Still Cameras. As a member of the SlimPort family of products the ANX7808 works in conjunction with SlimPort receivers, such as the ANX7730 and ANX9832. The ANX7808 transforms the HDMI output of the mobile device’s application processor to SlimPort. External adapters can then convert SlimPort to VGA, DisplayPort, or back to HDMI so that the device can connect to any high definition TV, monitor or projector. The same connector on the device can be used for USB when a SlimPort receiver is not connected.

if this really is a LTE chip that can work, google just future proofed their phone, without telling people. i bet if they were to announce it, there would be a huge fuss by the carriers, and google would be in a bad position
Future support for lte looks probable then.
But only if carriers across the world can sort out the damn mess that's become of lte

imagine mhl but also supporting vga, dvi, displayport etc.
I can't figure out why they would put the chip on there and not list it as a feature. It would nullify one complaint by most reviewers and make the phone even more desirable.
however, this LTE chip needs to work with the carrier's bands, looking at AT&T and T-Mobile here, since the N4 is a GSM phone. hopefully LTE will work in the N4
What! Does this mean it might be possible to use in the future on carriers like Verizon? I sure hope so

Use Sprint Note5 on Tmobile

Hi guys, this is my first post so please be easy on me. I have an unlocked Sprint Note5 that I use on Tmobile network right now. I added the 'fast. t-mobile.com' APN and have mobile network working. BUT ONLY 3G!! The fastest I've gotten so far is about 10 Mbps or so, and usually it's just 2-3 Mbps.
My question: is there a way for me to get LTE on this device with Tmobile? Or it's hardware/software impossible? For the simple reason of Samsung Pay, I'd rather not root my phone. The Samsung Pay has given A LOT promotions so far and I prefer to keep it.

Pretty sure Sprint is CDMA and your phone is meant for GSM LTE so the answer is, probably not.

Thanks for the reply. I know that iPhone 6s is compatible with LTE connection of all networks, so I was just wondering if the Note 5 is the case as well. Does anyone know what LTE bands that the Sprint Note 5 has?

Enabling Exynos FM Radio

The way to unlock the Snapdragon version is via NextRadio app, but it does not work in the Exynos version of the Note 8.
Does anybody know if there is an alternative way to unlock the fm radio in some other way not rooting the phone?

I don't think the exynos chip has it
yup, exynos does not have the needed hardware for fm radio
Thanks for the responses, now I'm so sad I thought the Exynos and the Snapdragon were not that different. I wish I knew that before buying the Exynos version.
Coming from a Lumia 950 xl to a Galaxy Note 8, I am missing a big feature important for me.

FM Radio chews through the phone battery as experience from S8. It's much easier to get a battery powered FM radio and use that.
I doubt you had the option of choosing between exynos or sd.. it's meant for different regions.
Sent from my SM-N950F using Tapatalk
interestingly, the radio settings are still on the Exynos devices so I am not sure that they lack the functionality at a hardware level, but I downloaded NextRadio and it won't play unless I have a data connection.
I use absolute radio app but I have a big data allowance. I don't find a big drain on the battery.
FM radio still has some uses for some people e.g. in the UK BBC Local radio will broadcast football commentary for all the games but due to licencing reasons it cannot be played on Digital Radio so the same radio station on Digital Radio (including Internet Radio) has something different on whilst the FM version broadcasts the football.
But that being said, it is more of a luxury to have it on a phone.
For emergency purposes it can be very important!
Interesting in this regard is following news item :

But they can be used in other regions...I'm using an Exynos here in Canada where our region's variant is the Snapdragon.
so... as I mentioned the FM radio settings are still on the Exynos devices. I imagine they would not include them if the device didn't have an FM radio chip at all, and I found this article from 2016 about a previous version of Exynos that definitely has an FM radio : https://www.engadget.com/2016/08/30/samsung-launches-first-exynos-chip-with-all-radios-built-in/
On the one hand this doesn't mean that future versions do, but it could be an indication that from that point on Samsung decided to include the FM chips even if they are not enabled by default. Given that the settings are on Exynos stock ROMs, I tend to guess that they probably do have FM support but it is not enabled for whatever reason. If you look in the sec_floating_feature.xml file I think under /system/etc/ you will see a bunch of lines for it, and there are CSC feature lines for FM radio settings as well.

I feel the decision was made, to force one to subscribe to a bigger data plan for those moments one is away from WiFi and wants to hear the radio.
I have a Galaxy J5 Prime with exynos with custom rom. I unpacked the stock rom and found Hybrid Radio. Copied the files to my phone and now I have FM Radio!

This doesn't make sense. Samsung doesn't benefit from you having a larger data plan or using data.

If it requires a data connection, it means it's not an FM radio, but instead you're streaming the radio station. Since most radio stations these days stream via the internet as well, that's most likely what the app is doing.

No. Not Samsung. I'm referring to the carrier. You need to understand that it is carrier that can instruct Samsung which features to enable or disable in "thier" models. It is same way that AT&T devices come with a locked bootloader, no matter which complete ROM you attempt to overwrite the unit with. Carriers don't make revenue when you use FM radio for free, so it is better for them to force you to have to use data (when away from Wi-Fi)

This makes more sense, yes. I understand that. I'm in South Africa and here we don't have crap like carriers trying to take control of certain parts and features of devices. We generally don't get a lot of bloatware, at least on the high-end devices, though I have seen some entry-level devices that seem to have a ton of bloatware on them, which is a little weird. But the high-end devices are for the most part exactly how Samsung shows them at their events.
I always think this is bull**** because galaxy A series has FM radio and they are ALL Enxyos
