Which rom & twrp version (not the twrp app)?
Edited: Try with the default twrp, not with the twrp app. BTW, I use this app to make backups, Works flawless on cm11, plus you can do backups without going in recovery. You only need to go to the settings app & redownload the patch for your phone everythime you update the rom, but not big deal, only take you 3 seconds:laugh:. Enjoy.
cheers bud for all your help that seems a lot easier will try that.
but just about what happened with me i used CWM Recovery to back up my phone, but it backed it up to internal phone and not ext sd card.so tried backing it up to external sd and i was getting a message saying cant mount backup path.once again cheers for your help gonna try your method

Can anyone tell me why ROM Manager Premium v5.0.2.4 won't allow me to select Use External Storage for a Nandroid backup? The option is greyed out. I've tried to contact the dev twice but they haven't bothered to reply so far.
I'm running out of space on the internal sd card and would like to use the external.
Thanks in advance

if you are on xxls7,you should have philz recovery.
boot into recovery mode. go to backup and restore.
2 options there
1. backup; by default it backups up to ext sd
2. backup to internal sd; as it says.
use it manually.
Many thanks once again for your help. That worked fine and I can see the backup file on the ext sd card. Wonder why PhilZ couldn't have labelled Option 1 "Backup to Extenal sd" but it's fine once you know.
I'm still keen to know why I can't choose this option in ROM Manager. Some posts I read said it works as long as the ext sd card is formatted for FAT32 which mine is. What I like about RM is the ability to initiate backup and restore from the menu (assuming the phone can boot of course). Some criticisms of RM/CWM suggest it's getting out of date. Maybe this is one reason why.
At the risk of testing your patience, can I ask you
1. do you know why the time portion of the file is incorrect "2012-11-22.14.36.33"? I did this backup at 22:30 so assume it should be "2012-11-22.22.30" which is what I'd expect with RM? The time on the phone is correct.
2. Why the app says "No sd-ext found... " when it's actually backing up to the ext sd card? I see a similar message when using RM.
Sorry to keep coming back with more questions. I'm extremely grateful for your help.

I am running ARHD 10.1 based on JB 4.2.2. and my recovery is TWRP. The issue I am having started when I updated the rom from 9 something to 10.1. It was recommended that I back up the sd and then restore it back on the phone after the rom flash. I deleted everything from the sd card and then transferred the files to make sure the the files don't get corrupt if it was merged. However, this method was a headache and some files were harder to transfer. After I got everything back to normal I noticed one thing. My old back up of nandroid are still in the sd card, but don't show up in recovery and my new back after the transfer of files to sd card do not show up in the TWRP back up file in the sd card, but I can see the new backup of nandroid in recovery. Why is that. I looked everywhere in the sd card and I can't find any other place it will save them. So where did my phone save them and where can i find it in the sd card?
its /data/media/clockworkmod/backup for cwm but im not sure about twrp

Before I had this issue it was /TWRP/BACKUPS/FA34MW904643/
but I only see the old back ups before the issue. The new back ups is no where to be found on the sd card, but I can see the new ones in recovery, but not the old backups.

In my phone after JB 4.2.2 , the TWRP backups saved in the folder storage/emulated/0/TWRP
If nothing ,try to check data/media/twrp or data/media/0/twrp

I found the new back ups in data/media/0/twrp, but I only see it in the file manager in twrp. The folder is shown empty on es explorer with the phone turned on and I do not see phone files when plugged into the computer, only sd. How can I view phone files on the computer.
You need ES set to root explorer to view the contents of /data
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
This is one of the reasons CWM is much better
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
Yes, you need root permissions for access to /data/media...
In general, something not so with your phone (file system), the path /data/media/0/twrp and path /storage/emuleted/0/twrp are "symlink". My advise, after you will take backup, keep all applications and data and make factory reset with formatting of internal sd under JB 4.2.2.
So i was on stock sense 5 4.1.2 with TWRP recovery and flashed Android Revolution HD 12. Now when i was about to restore my backup i made on 4.1.2 TWRP didnt show any backups... But there is backups on the TWRP folder. How can i restore the backup that i made before ?
Maby it's the md5 who is different ? If so how can i change the md5 ?
I tried restoring with ROM manager, but when i was about to start it just exits..
Someone who had the same problem ? Or maby knows a fix ?
PS sorry about my bad english.
Make sure you have the correct folder selected. If your backups are on the internal storage, select that. If they are on the SD Card then select that
Since you upgraded to 4.2.2,the file partitioning system is different. Your back up will be in the root - data/media

How do i select a folder ?
Do you mean in ROMmanager or in TWRP ?
In TWRP, when you hit the "Restore" button there's a little tab right underneath the time and battery percentage that says either "Internal Storage" or "Micro SD Card", you hit that and you can choose which one

I actually don't even have an HTC phone, I have a Galaxy S 3, but try making a folder in your Storage folder (you should probably call it TWRP) and move your data/media backups there. Then rename your regular backup folder to end with '.bak' and update partition details. Beyond that, I don't have anymore solutions, sorry

I currently have no rom installed due to me wiping the cache and data. I'm trying to put the cyanogenmod 11 zip on the sd card by mounting usb storage, however it doesn't allow to copy it over to the sd and just says "discovering items". Upon mounting the usb storage it recommends me to fix the device as there are some problems with files, I tried the scan and fix options but it did not help.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

On some kernels you can use connection to PC when you are in recovery, on some not. I do not know on what kernel and recovery you are now. But it seems it is not working. So solution is to do nandroid restore if you made a nandroid backup in recovery. I suppose you did not, so now your option is to flash stock JB from Download Mode with Odin, and copy ROM while you are in system. Or use some other phone and put SD card in it and copy like that.

Mmmhh ... I'm so shocked and curious. Turns, to move files in CWM could be done to the PC. Is it possible in CM11, senior? (noob quetions) Maybe one day I'll need it.
Thanks In Advance..

Some of it has, some do not. I am not sure what version has it and what do not. I remember some version, maybe CoCore opens internal and external storage on PC automatically. But I can't remember was it CoCore or some else.

Actually it's something interesting, a senior. Like when Windows95 new entry in our country. At that time the system "DOS For Windows" is still very familiar in computer lessons in our education. (Developing Countries). So we can still do "Copy" and "Paste" via diskette in the system "DOS". I think CWM is almost similar to the DOS system. I mean, CWM will be very useful if a time on the android main system can not be done. Of course may be done through CWM. cmiiw.
Hey all,
I recently reverted back to stock and am now trying to restore one of my backups using Safestrap. I have 3 backups available in my TWRP folder on my SD card, but when I try to do a restore of the one I want I get the following error: "E: No partition selected for restore". How do I go about getting this backup installed? Thanks in advance for the help!

I bet your Ex SD card is corrupt that happened with me.
If you have an adapter I'd transfer the contents of the SD card to your computer then get another card and transfer files from pc back on new card that's what I had to do

But the odd thing is I have a newer backup of the one I did when I reverted to stock and that restore works fine..The backup I want to restore is my rooted/debloated version and that is the one where I get the error message.
Real noob question here, but do I have to delete everything except for SD Card in Safestrap when doing a restore or should I just be able to select the backup and hit restore?
