Hi. I'v got friend's HTC One on stock 4.3 (3.63.161.6). I need to flash stock 4.3 Europe that has Polish language included.
I've downloaded this stock RUU:
RUU_M7_U_JB_50_HTC_Europe_1.29.401.2_R_Radio_4A.14.3250.13_10.33.1150.01_release_311663_signed_2_4.exe
How do I flash it? Is it safe to flash it on my friend's HTC One that has stock 4.3 (3.63.161.6), S-ON and locked bootloader (the phone was never rooted, modded etc.)? Should I first S-OFF and unlock bootloader? What tool do I use to flash this RUU? What are these CID and MID about? Should I care about them?
It's the first time I'm working with a HTC, so I'm a total HTC noob. I only had few Samsungs and currently a Nexus 4 and know how to work with these but not HTC.

1- you'll need s-off to be able to downgrade
2- how about sharing a "fastboot getvar all" (removing IMEI and s/n before posting)
Thanks for quick reply. Is there a RUU stock Europe ROM in such a version, so I wouldn't need to S-OFF; so I woudn't need to downgrade the firmware?
I tried to run the RUU when my phone is in Fastboot USB mode, it started updating but it stopped in the middle of the process. Phone works normally, it didn't brick. How do I install this RUU: RUU_M7_U_JB_50_HTC_Europe_1.29.401.2_R_Radio_4A.14 .3250.13_10.33.1150.01_release_311663_signed_2_4.e xe

1- you're going to have to change CID to HTC__032 for Eastern Europe country/language
2- your MID is PN0710000, so this RUU: http://www.htc1guru.com/dld/ruu_m7_...1-27_10-31-1131-05_release_310878_signed-exe/
(the other one is for PN0711000, ie M7_U not UL)
(steps 1 and/or 2 NEED S-OFF)
3- if you dont want to go through all that hassle, why not try https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.co.c_lis.ccl.morelocale or similar and see if that does the job.
Thanks. I'm now S-OFF, changed CID and waiting for the RUU you've provided to download. I'malso on custom rom - slimbean 4.3. Do I need to somehow flash stock before installing the ruu?
OK. Im on SlimBean. I'm running the RUU fomr bootloader mode, it starts OK, asks if I wont to update from: 3.63.161.5 to: 1.28.401.7. I click next. The update starts and after a minute an error appears (error 155: error updating image) and the update stops. I can still boot the device to fastboot, so it isn't bricked. What do I do now to flash the RUU?
After installing the RUU, what do I have to do for the OTA updates to work? Do I have to S-ON or lock the bootloader?

NO NO, no s-on no locking!! U need to downgrade hboot to 1.44 first (& separately), then ruu will work just fine.
Check guru, or my guide in my signature (only the hboot downgrade).
I'm off for tonight...

To expand on nkk71's post..
If you’re on hboot which is above 1.44, then first thing is to downgrade that:
so download this: http://www.htc1guru.com/dld/1-29-401-12_hboot_1-44-zip/
in bootloader/FASTBOOT USB, flash it:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip 1.29.401.12_hboot_1.44.zip
fastboot flash zip 1.29.401.12_hboot_1.44.zip <---- just in case the above said “failed flush again”
fastboot reboot-bootloader
--> and confirm hboot is now 1.44
Click to collapse
Then run the RUU..
Thanks a lot! So now I've got hboot 1.29.401.12_hboot_1.44 but I want to flash RUU which is 1.28, namely this one: RUU_M7_UL_JB_50_HTC_Europe_1.28.401.7_Radio_4A.13.3231.27_10.31.1131.05_release_310878_signed.exe.
Is it OK? Also, I'm currently on SlimBean, can I flash the RUU straight over SlimBean 4.3, SlimBean custom kernel and custom CWM recovery?
Yes, as long as you are S-OFF... flash away the RUU. It will overwrite all partitions.
OK. I flashed the RUU. Do I now have to do sth for the OTA updates to work with the phone? Or can I start updating the phone straight away?
Not really, connect to wifi, and start smashing Check Update button.. you should get about 2-4 updates as you installed one of the oldest RUU
Thank you all for your replies. The phone now officially has polish language and I'm in the process of udpating it via OTA. Everything works fine! Thanks again
Perfect, please mark the thread as [SOLVED] and give thanks to nkk71!

Ok, so im new here to the htc forums but not the rooting community. I previously had all nexus devices and this is my first htc/one device. I dont understand what image version im on bc when i look under Settings>About>Software Info I see Software Version - 1.29.651.10. So Why is that i cant run this RUU without any problems? I Keep getting an error at the end. heres what i did
First i flashed this.... Sprint_HTC_One_1.29.651.10_Stock_Deodexed.zip
Second... fastboot oem lock (from bootloader screen)
Third... Ran the setup.exe from this this Sprint_HTC_One_m7wls_1.29.651.10_RUU.zip
Fourth... i accepted the terms but my image version said 1.31.651.2. the image version didnt match when i ran the RUU.
at the end i get the error code 140. im posting some images so you guy can see.
in the bootloader screen i did: fastboot getvar all and got this

so im am assuming that im flashed to this version of 1.29.651.10 android so to speak, but my actual image version is1.31.651.2? if i am understanding this correctly, that means i could flash any version i want but my actual bootloader is set on this1.31.651.2. So the RUU im using will not work until there is an updated version of the RUU, right? what if i was s-off? im currently s-on. would i be able to flash it back to stock if i was s-off and the image versions didnt match in the RUU? This is my first Htc devices and im felling kinda noobish.. please help.
So here is my fix..
I flashed a bone stock rom with no root found here... or restore nandroid. I usually make a nandroid backup before i flash su.zip. but anyway, after the restore i booted into the bootloader and types fastboot oem lock. then i proceeded to reboot, but my device kept booting into bootloader. i tried fastboot erase cache which didn't help. so i grabbed the firmware from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2368907 . In the bootloader type...
fastboot oem reboot RUU
now you should be in a black screen with the htc logo
fastboot flash zip /navigate/to/zip/file
you will get fail the first time(pre-hboot update: please flush immediately)
just make sure your device is still in the RUU mode(black screen with htc logo, if not redo first step)
fastboot flash zip /navigate/to/zip/file
it should proceed to flash and get flash successful!
oh you might get a loading bar underneath the htc logo. this is normal. just make sure that in the terminal it said successful.
unplug and hold the power till it restarts.
now you are bone stock with stock recovery. this is the closest I've came to being stock since there currently isn't a RUU tool for the latest firmware. hope this helps. BIG THANKS TO bigdaddy619 for the input!

The Software Version - 1.29.651.10 refers to the software version of the rom you are running if you were to flash a rom based on 1.31.651.2 your software version in settings would reflect that.
Since you are s-on your phone most likely came with 1.31.651.2 why are you trying to go backwards? If you just want to go back to stock there is a stock 1.31.651.2 rom(rooted and unrooted) in Indirects thread.

There is not an RUU for 1.31.651.2
I would suggest unlocking again
flash twrp 2.5.0.0
flash the Stock(no root) 1.31 rom in Indirect's thread
then relock again(your bootloader will say RE-LOCKED not LOCKED)
I kinda figured that I just had a brain fart about it. But when I flash a stock rom and relock bootloader it won't boot up I just keep booting into the bootloader. So if in was on an earlier version of 1.29.651.10 I would be able to relock and be stock, right?

Did you check the MD5 on the stock rom you were trying to flash maybe it was a bad download?
In was on it running and all. Then I proceeded and relocked. Or did I do something wrong here?

Same Issue As Techno Droid - ! SOS ! - 7 day old brick
Hi all,
I'm hoping someone can assist me here, its been a week now without my phone due to my botched attempts to flash a custom rom. I have the exact same situation as TechnoDroid's initial post, and same exact fails. I tried Techno Droids fix, but am getting the following error from this command:
fastboot oem reboot RUU
...
(bootloader) [ERR] Command error !!!
OKAY [ 0.001s]
finished. total time: 0.003s.
I've flashed the 1.31 stock ROM from Indirect's thread, and re-locked the bootloader, but I always get an OS that has no apps and begins a system boot loop after a few minutes.
Also, if I can find a compatible nandroid backup and flash it through TWRP would that be a possible fix?
Any help is greatly appreciated, I'll be looking into purchasing a backup phone from my MVNA, but would really like to unbrick this one since I paid full boat for an unlocked version!
- cheers

having the same issue: stock deodexed flashed but unable to get ruu,, tsk (Sprint HTC One 1.29.651.10!)
pls help,,
I have one hell of a problem.
Status of device:
-Google play edition kit kat htc one (converted from att version)
-No recovery, recovery is INACCESSABLE
-No root, and temp root does not work as well.
-Stock att RUU's not working (as of yet)
-I have tried firewatter, revone and rum runner to try and root so i can get s-off but unable.
-For whatever reason fastboot oem unlock does not as well as the unlock token.
Things i haven't tried because i cant find them:
-Google play edition RUU.exe file
-A standalone RUU for downgrading hboot 1.54 (which is my device currently)
-A modified RUU.exe that will allow me to restore to stock ANYTHING
-A RUU.zip that i can flash manually without s-off
Any suggestions?

you probably have to redo the process at http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader/
redo the process and try to unlock your bootloader with the new unlock.bin
just follow the steps
OK.. Explain this. If you converted. You went SOFF. Then how do you end up with LOCKED Bootloader and SJON?
sent from my mobile device
I have had the same problem few weeks ago
First unlock your bootloader again with a new unlock.bin ...redo the hole process
http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader/
Second regain S-Off with rumrunner
Finaly you should be able to restore with a RUU
Dosent go

It says on the prompt that it completed successfully with the unlock, however i do not receive a prompt on the device stating the developer options to accept or deny.
I will proceed as if i did and try my att ruu to try and update the device.
I tried with a google ruu and get signature verify fail, i think that i get the same issue with the att ruu.
IF you can suggest a RUU that will help me out of the situation i would really appreciate it.
Also if there is any reason why rum runner will not complete, i can swear adb is up everything should work but it just will not complete.

Turning security back to ''on'' and relocking your bootloader on GPE was a bad decision, you probably bricked your device forever.
This is discussed in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2547894
With S-ON and Locked (Re-Locked) bootloader, your only hope is to flash a RUU of same or higher version than the version currently installed on your phone. You can't downgrade anything with s-on using a ruu.exe neither a ruu.zip. You are stuck until htc release a newer gpe ruu.

Is there any chance of spoofing the ruu.zip to make it look like a higher verison?
If not that can i just flash a recovery image even if its stock so i can have a recovery as i currently don't even have that which i think is the source of my problems.

Unfortunately no. ''spoofing'' the ruu will require to decrypt it. With s-on you can't flash a decrypted ruu, you can only flash a ruu that is signed with HTC private key (decrypted ruu can't be signed back with HTC private key). S-OFF would have saved your phone in this case.
The only way to flash the stock recovery in your case is to flash a signed firmware.zip of the same of higher version.
Still waiting your ''fastboot getvar all'' output

Afaik, there is no ruu you can flash. Your version is 3.62.1700.1 and the latest ruu I can find is 3.58.1700.5 which is a downgrade (require S-OFF) You'll need to find or wait for a ruu higher or equal to 3.62.1700.1

That sux.
Are you sure there is no other way?
The htc regular version stock is version 4 something and so i was hopping that would override any bull**** i have going on.
i tired temp roots to see if i can s-off in os with firewater but i was unsuccesffully at gaining temp root.
Its funny to me because i swear reading somewhere that "andoid 4.4 is great" dont even have to root because of app ops or something but its obvious now thats a load of b.s and i should have just always run rooted as that has never done me wrong.
Do you know where i would find a ruu when one comes out? as one probably will with 4.4.3 coming out soon.

The international version ruu is a .401 base (not .1700) and require to change CID and probably MID. Changing those values require S-OFF!

must be signed and same or higher version than 3.62.1700.1.
any .1700 version will match your CID and MID (GOOGL01 and PN0712000)
Last question,
Flashing a newer hboot or the "modified gpe bootloader"
Is it possible since im s-off, and will it change anything?
And why wont this zip work?
RUU Zip M7 Google Edition 4.4 3.58.1700.5
Because its version 3.58 and i am 3.62?
I like Htc phones and especially their commitment to bring timely updates.
But.....i do miss being able to use odin and never have to worry if your device gets f-ed up you can always reformat it to stock without trying to get a warranty replacement (which i cant because i'm rocking my google play edition) which is great and totally beats cyanogen mod for stability.
Although....i miss blink feed lol

Fomr the output of your fastboot getvar all, you are S-ON not S-OFF so you won't be able to flash a modifed hboot. Btw, if you flash a modified hboot in the future with s-off, you will brick your device if you s-on again (with a modified hboot)

Hey All,
I hope you guys can help me, I'm completely lost in all these threads and posts. I've spent hours on this, literally hours...
I have a HTC One M7 (bought in Belgium) which I wanted to return to stock because of a faulty speaker (I just rooted the standard image). So I relocked the bootloader to flash an RUU. I tried flashing several European RUUs from the xda collection, but nothing worked. I also tried a zipped firmware, and it also fails. I always get this error:

I'm stuck in fastboot, it doesn't boot into the OS anymore, only fastboot.

Strange thing is, when I check the zip's android-info:
modelid: PN0710000

So I don't get anymore why it would fail a signature check...
I also tried flashing a newer version, this didn't work either. What makes matters worse, the battery keeps uncharging as I continue to struggle...
Tell it to me straight, doctor... Is my HTC doomed to be a paperweight?
What do you mean "flash a RUU" ? Is it you try to fastboot flash the RUU ? It won't work that way.
Checking this : http://www.androidruu.com/?developer=M7
I see there is only one RUU that may work for you : RUU_M7_UL_K44_SENSE55_MR_HTC_Europe_4.19.401.9_R_Radio_4A.23.3263.28_10.38r.1157.04L_release_353069_signed_2-1.exe
What you need to do:
1- in fastboot mode - relock the bootloader : run command fastboot oem lock (you did this already)
2- in fastboot mode - flash/run/double click the RUU; follow the updater instruction - next, update, bla, bla, bla until it finish

First of all, thanks a bunch for taking the time to respond.
I'm currently downloading the proposed RUU and will try flashing it.
I don't understand, however, why my downloaded RUUs wouldn't work since the CID and model corresponded?
I tried both methods: using the RUU to flash and using the fastboot oem rebootRUU > flash zip.

When your device is S-ON, you need a correct version RUU i.e 1.29.401.16 (which is not available, I believe), so you should go for a higher version not lower version.
I'm new to HTC One too so not so sure about fastboot oem rebootRUU, but I believe it needs a S-OFF device to work but yours is S-ON.

Search for ERROR 158 may help you.
What I understand ERROR 158 maybe because the bootloader is not relocked, not using USB2.0, maybe also a modified hboot (usually the one that remove the red text warning) is installed prior to running the RUU, not running the RUU in Admin Privilege mode.
Maybe someone else have better idea, have to wait for that.

- No, I locked using fastboot oem lock with USB cable.
maybe also a modified hboot (usually the one that remove the red text warning) is installed prior to running the RUU
- Afaik, I never installed a custom hboot myself. I get the red text warning at the white HTC screen.
not running the RUU in Admin Privilege mode.
- Nope, the RUU runs with admin privileges in Win 7
Maybe someone else have better idea, have to wait for that.

I suppose I need to do S-OFF with revone since I'm at 1.44, but unsure. Damn this stuff is confusing.
You will need to flash new firmware I saw a hierarchy of htc one's Ruu firmware list on android revolution site.
Just check in the name of the correct ruu you downloaded and try to match the numbers of your Ruu with the list given there. I hope it may help you or if you get confused Pm me.
Sent from my HTC One using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
OK, I solved it.
So I did an S-OFF with revone, then locked and removed tampered (also revone).
Then I flashed a good RUU. It took ages to find a good one, followed another thread (2325010) on the forum which I can't link because of the restrictions .
Then I used thread 1672425 to put S-ON again and now my One it back to full stock!

hello
hi guys. i have a question.
do i need to flash a new rom after update the firmware on my htc one?
or can i just update the firmware and do nothing on the rom.
hboot-1.57 in one m7ul s-on
Can I download hboot-1.57 in one m7ul s-on
In less than 1.56 ... 1.55 ? ?
Τhanks .
which firmware do I start with
@vomer, I'm unlocked with custom recovery, rooted and have s-off, question, I'm on the firmware version my phone shipped with, 5.12.502.2......what do I flash here for latest firmware, do I do the 5.11.xxx (401 or 1540? - 1540 is the developer build no?, why is that the only developer one in that list, i don't do both the 401 and 1540 correct?) or do I skip 5.11 and go straight to the latest 6.0.xxx ? I ask because the 5.12 was released in August where as the 5.11 is listed as May or something.
Thanks and let me know, great guide!
latest firmwares
oh and @vomer, are you going to update this with the latest firmwares for m7_ul? I noticed there is now a 6.0.11 and 6.0.12 - i tried to flash them from android revolution but my device bricked / hung on boot, had to reset to stock with guru reset and flash original firmware...which ultimately means i wasted a bunch of time previously...later noticed that ARHD requires re-locked bootloader...maybe this is what bricked it?? Did you remove that requirement from the ones you posted and I just didn't know? or were those firmwares just not compatible with the stock rom based on 5.12 from att from before I changed my CID with your guide? I'm really not sure what happened but I had waited to flash a custom rom but couldn't once i tried to flash later than your 6.0.10 listed (and yes I had changed my CID via your guide and had used .401 builds - does that number even matter once you're super CID?
Thanks!
am i screwed?
Sup,
Been on the XDA forums for two days now (totally rad) trying to return my phone to stock and bootloader locked for warranty trying all sorts of methods and I think I am screwed but I would love anyone to clarify
status:
-nandroids, OTA and guru reset available but no RUU available (HTC one m7, Telstra, Australia)
-rom - guru reset android 4.2.2, hboot 1.57, latest twrp
-bootloader unlocked, phone rooted, s-on.
Problem:
Only way to s-off with hboot 1.57 is to use sunshine which won't work for me. I want to roll back to hboot 1.44 so I can achieve s-off by revone and lock the phone back up with flags removed. My understanding is that being there is no RUU using a nandroid to roll hboot back to 1.44 is my only choice and to do so I have to change the CID on my device to match the nandroid CID. Unfortunately you can't modify your phones CID if you don't have s-off so it's a bit of a catch 22.
Is this correct or am I screwed?

Hi guys, hope you can help me out...
I just rooted my HTC One (unlock bootloader and install TWRP recovery), WITHOUT installing any custom ROM (i just kept the factory OS, because i couldn't S-Off the phone in order to install the google play edition). The OS i had (and still have) is stock Android 4.4.3 with Sense 6.
The problem is that i need to lock the phone back (in order to benefit from the warranty - technical touchscreen problem).
I tried using Revone to lock the phone back, but i get an error: "Failed to open framebuffer device". I understand that revone doesn't work with hboot 1.57.
Could you please help me with the relocking/unrooting the phone (at least give me a link to a guide that is working for my phone configuration - hboot 1.57) ? And also could you tell me if i need a RUU, or i can just wipe/reinstall the current OS (which i never changed in the first place) ? And if i need a RUU, how can i find the one that was initially installed on the phone ?
Oh, and one more thing: at first, when my phone started, i had a Vodafone screen showing up, and some crappy apps preinstalled. After i rooted an installed twrp recovery, i don't get that vodafone screen anymore, an the crappy apps weren't preinstalled anymore.
Cheers and thanks in advance !

Ok well first off you need s-off to set your bootloader to ***LOCKED*** and to get back to 100% stock. As your on Hboot 1.57 the only way to gain s-off is with Sunshine App. Which will cost $25 to use.
The stock Rom on your Device won't be a complete stock Rom either. When you unlock the bootloader the device is wiped along with some preload data (crappy apps) which is critical if you want the device back to stock. Or to be able to accept OTA updates. If the device is Vodafone I'm not sure there is an RUU but you should be able to get a full stock Rom from somewhere. Please post the output of
Code:
fastboot getvar all
Please remove your imei and serial number before posting. And we can see what is available for you. But if you want to go 100% stock to reinstate your warranty you will need s-off first :good:

Unlocking the bootloader wipes /data partition to prevent unauthorized access to your data. Problem is that HTC packed some of their stock apps in /data/preload which mean you don't have these apps anymore after unlocking the bootloader. When installing an ota update, there is a script verifying the integrity of each files to be patched, inluding apps normally present in /data/preload. After the script will find out that these apps are missing, the ota update installation will abort. So no your phone can't install ota update anymore unless you restore your phone back to stock (which can be done with s-off btw).
Also, what about Firewater for S-OFF ?

Its discontinued. Firewater was using online resources no more available to do its magic.
From what I see from your "getvar all" you have the pretty standard version of the M7. Follow nkk71's guide linked in my signature. You want to follow the procedure using the 1.28.401.7 ruu.zip
@alray
@Danny201281
I successfully did the following:
- S-OFF with Sunshine
- I got rid of "tampered" and "unlocked" in bootloader, by using nkk71's guide. Now it just says "locked".
- I flashed the 1.28.401.7 ruu zip
- I updated the software via OTA
Now the only thing left is to get back to S-ON, right ? How can i do this without risking the "tampered" sign (as explained in nkk71's guide) ? Any safer way ?
And btw, the result of getvar all is the same as before, except now is S-OFF instead of S-ON
Thanks,

To safely go back to s-on without risking tampered you should have done it before installing the OTA updates as explained in @nkk71 guide.
So now you should downgrade with the ruu again then set s-on then install OTA updates to avoid the tampered flag returning. :good:

how far did you go with the OTA's? as long as it's pre 7.xx (ie Lollipop), sunshine will still work, in case you the tampered sign back, you can use sunshine again to s-off, and redo it (the guide)
but as danny said, i (personally) only recommend it on 1.xx or 2.xx firmware.... i don't know the reason for tampered [sometimes/often] reappearing so i dont know what's involved or what triggers it
@Danny201281
@nkk71
i took a leap of faith and eneter the "fastboot oem writesecureflag 3" command. It worked like a charm. Afterwards i rebooted the bootloader 3 times and no "tampered" sign, but S-ON. I also rebooted the phone once and still no "tampered" sign, but S-ON. Guess it worked, right ?
As for the OTAs, i went until the last one available for HTC One - 6.09.401.11.
Thanks guys !

You need to reboot the ROM three times at least, not the bootloader
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk

I did that also. Still working fine, "locked" and S-ON
Thanx,
