Camera woes - AT&T Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am really unhappy with the camera on the note3... there is too much shutter lag that most photos come back blurry... is there another camera app that might be better to use than the stock ? also what settings are optimal for minimizing the shutter lag ?

I flashed the Nexus 5 camera and though it is light on options for basic shots I totally prefer it. I take hundreds of shots of my kids a month.

Son, i am dissapoint.
What special hardware detects smiles? Is there any dedicated lenses for that?
If it not working why they put it in the camera?

can you please make short video for this?
it works, just touch camera capture and smile
also autofocus in video is like in canon 550D
just focus and later on when you move, does its best to find another focus
(the thing i dislike :/)

Sunspider benchmark has gone from around 1280ms (from memory) to 803.4ms on my phone using the "Internet" browser which looks as if they have tweaked something. Haven't got any benchmark programs installed to test graphics performance.
EDIT: for comparison Chrome gets 1193ms and firefox really falls behind with 1620ms.

Whoa to 803?? That's a massive gain. That bests even the SGS4 now with its 1.9GHz clocks. I think the GS4 scored around 900-1000 range while the H1 had 1100-1200. This was anandtech.com's review, so it should be very reliable.
Yeah, I thought it was quite impressive too, here is the link for comparison of time want to run against un-upgraded phone. http://www.webkit.org/perf/sunspide...idate-input":[86,86,83,87,88,86,89,86,82,89]}

Good to see that - not complaining about the speed of the phobe pre update - more than happy

Is this theory possible?

In theory would it be possible to have the Nexus 6 screen output in 1080p instead of QuadHD. That or a lower resolution to save battery consumption and improve screen on time. This in theory would be very useful to incorporate into a power saving mode.

This should do what you're looking for.
As long as its still using the full screen the resolution won't matter. It's not the resolution that uses more power it's the powering of pixels.

While you are correct on the usage of power for the pixels, lowering resolution does still save battery as you aren't taxing the GPU as much to render the lower resolution as opposed to the higher resolution.

Well the app is pretty basic so what are you not able to get working? Are you rooted?

New to the whole ROM realm, need a suggestion for what would be best?

Stock android-ish look and conserves the battery. Also customization. I looked around and found CMremix and ressurection remix, any thoughts on those?
I've been using TEKXodus rom. You should definitely check it out. It's great on battery and smooth.

I'm currently using Maximum OvrDrive N5 port. It seems like a good one so far. Lots of customizations and tweaks available.
I am not a fan of Touchwiz/samsung interface, so my suggestions will all be AOSP or the like.
CMRemix is good and fast, but still has a few bugs to work out. It's good enough for those who really want the latest and greatest.
SlimRemix is the fastest:most reliable rom i have used, but it uses noticeably more battery.
I am currently on CM12.1 from the official Cyanogenmod website. Super stable, battery life is good, very mod-able.
you will lose wifi calling with any of these, but i find that the trade-off is worth it, despite that i live on a mountain with no reception. you can add s-pen functions again with "cm spen addon" and "note buddy"
I have not found the camera to be as good on aosp roms, so FireKat is my Rom of choice. Poprocks if you prefer lollipop (I don't).

+1 for TEKXodus v7.
Love all the mix of note 4 and note 5 features. Smooth, feature rich, stable. Love it.

I have had the Snap trial version installed for probably 5 months but never found them to be as good without additional post processing. Is the pro version better or just no wait?

i never used the trial version. i was hearing of results from others and just spent the $3 or whatever it was.
i will do some comparison soon and get back to you.
My favorite roms: For aosp I go resurrection remix 5.5.9 or for touchwiz I go with rapture 8.2. Most all around solid roms imo

I may have to take back what I said and give aosp another go. I can't tell a difference between Snap Camera, Google Camera, and stock (FireKat rom) at least for static subjects. What I really need though is a quick camera for pics of the kids. I'll upload the pics. Hopefully it doesn't compress them to death here....
FireKat first.
Google Camera second.
Snap Camera third.
Looks like they are about 5% of the original file size.

How do I check pixel size of my pictures

I'm coming from an s7 edge. I have the s10 plus.
I can't seem to change the quality of the picture. I can do it with the video (from 4k to 720 p for both front and rear cameras, but I can't for the picture)
Does anyone know how to change the settings?
The only thing I see is when I take a picture on the screen on the left hand menu bar I can choose, 16:9, 1:1, 4:3, or full screen.
Does that affect the quality of the photo taken (in megapixels)?
I currently have it set on full screen, but on my old s7 edge, full screen would give you a lower pixel count, so I set it to 4:3. Should I do the same here?
Tap settings, rear picture size and click resolution.
It's not there.
Here are the options I have. (check attacment)
Doesn't say. You just get size of image.

Weird... So which one is the highest quality?
4:3?
Yes 4:3 is 12 mp,16:9 is 8 as per my knowledge

Wow that's a bit of a drastic change, why not have the same for both video and pictures then?

This was driving me crazy... Also coming from S7 edge... Always looking for the highest resolution, not sure why they would hide details like that and make things more convoluted...
It's in the quick menu now so easier to find
