[Q] SD Card only install for Nook HD? - Nook HD, HD+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a CM 10.2 binary install for SD card only that verygreen has developed for the Nook HD?
I have installed the ovation SD card install on my Nook HD+ with success. There are a few minor bugs that block WIFI connect on tablet wake up and kick the tablet over to the Nook system on wake up occasionally. Other than that, the install works for Jellybean Android 4.3 pretty well.
Thanks for your help!
Thanks to verygreen for the work in developing the SD card install binary.

I don't think so. His early SD work was all for the HD+. After he developed the native install method, he started developing for the HD also, but not for SD.
But I think bokbokan has an SD version of CM10.2 for the HD. Edit: Nope, could not find it. CM10.1 only.

Is it possiblle for HD to run CM 10.1 on Emmc, like HDplus

Hi there,
is it possible for HD to run CM10.1 on Emmc like HDplus?
thank you!
I'd like to know this as well. All I've seen for the NookHD is SDCard boot.

It is theoretically possible, but no one has done it yet.

In that case, if I use the sd boot method, can I still use that card for storage as well, or is it deticated to booting CM?

The SD does more that just boot. It stores the system and data files there too. You leave the SD inserted all the time. And it creates a large media storage partition to store files when running CM from SD. That is why it is best to use a large SD.

[Q] Installing CM 10 on Nook HD+

I was installing CM from verygreen thread "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2032364" Nook HD+ CM10 development (sdcard) updated 5/11.
I am using a san disk 32gb sd, i followed the steps unzip cwm image and write it to your sdcard using Win32 Disk Imager as he linked. Did that and booted into the nook hd, mounted it no problems. I haven't used ADB so i turned off the nook as it says to do and went to put the cm-10-20130511-UNOFFICIAL-ovation-sdcard.zip on the sd card. One problem the sd card now shows 116mb only of the 32gb and with no option to reformat it to make it larger. I tried formating from CWM didn't do anything. Pleas help i read the forums link for about 30mins with no answer to solve this problem. Just seen pushing ADB which i'm not familiar with. Thanks for any help suggestions.
I have an install guide for that ROM. Look at my HD+ easy install guide linked in my signature. I have a new image file there to help you.

Thank you! One problem so far, i went and installed the cm10 and gapps on the internal sd. i rewrote the sd card with your 6028cwm.
Once i insert he SD it says on the bottom CWM v6.0.2.7 and it wouldn't mount the emmc to install Cm10. I rewrote the sd card again and it said it took and still same thing.
Also tried your newer ramdisk but i can not rename my old ramdisk.cwm once its in my computer.
EDIT: I was using the Micro to full size SD adapter and that was locking it. I took the Micro and put it right into a micro sd card reader and BAM! Installing now.
Ran into this problem where it just locks up on booting, I take the SD card out stock nook works great. Loads to 99% then nothing, just hangs. I let it sit for an hour even.

You are confusing me. This thread I'd for HD+. Yet you say the CWM said v6.0.2.7, which is for the HD. You should not be following my old guide if you are using verygreen's new SD scheme.... Oh I see your other comment was an old one....
The reason it stopped at 99% is the old SD version has too many partitions to allow stock to boot. It hands at 99%. To fix the problem, remove the SD before booting to stock.

With no SD card in it works great on stock nook. The problem i'm running into is it wont boot to CM with the SD in. I get the cynogen start screen then a laggy cynogen loading then it goes to the stock nook with the 99%.
So the problem i am having is i cannot boot to CM with the SD card in. Without the card it works fine.
With the card in its boots to CM screen and the circle loads choppy and then it swaps to the nook 99%.
I just want the CM to boot. Any help will be greatly appreciate it. I can boot to CWR and i did mount the SD card and still same problem.

You need to abandon that SD setup and start fresh with verygreen's new SD scheme. The old setup had some bugs. His new setup work much better. So go to his HD+ sdcard CM10.1 thread and start over with his early 7.1 cwm image. Then install his latest ROM and gapps and you will be very happy.

[Q] Having Trouble Creating SD Card with CM7 for Nook

I need some help with creating an SD card to boot android from on a Nook HD.
I tried this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000957
I used an old 8gb sandisk micro SD i got from a cell phone
Used win32 disk imager and flashed generic-sd card image onto the root of sd card
Then I took out the card and re-inserted it to get it recognize the new image as F:boot which has 4 files on it MLO U-boot, U ram disk, and u image
Then I went to install CM 7.2 files onto the SD - that's where i ran into trouble. It gave "Error No Room on Disk". I looked at the space on the Sd card and it said it was only 113Mb. _Please help. What did i do wrong when flashing the image file onto SD card to make the sd card smaller?
Thanks in advance for your help.
You have really got things mixed up. This is a Nook HD/HD+ thread and you linked to a Nook Color thread (they are different devices). CM7 does not run on the Nook HD. No wonder things are not working for you.
If you truly have a Nook HD, find a Nook HD thread for installing CM to SD (has to be CM10/CM10.1/CM10.2 though).

Thank you for the reply. I checked and yes I do have a Nook HD 8GB. I got it from walmart for $129.
So just to confirm - No CM7 will run on Nook HD?
Can you install CM 10 without rooting the device? And if so, is a non-rooted install that runs directly off the SD Card significantly slower than it was flashed to internal memory?
If CM 10 has to be installed to the internal memory, are there dual boot options that would keep what i have on the nook saved?
Also, I noticed when i tried to put CM7 on the SD card, it created a 113 image file, and left the remainder of the disk as "unallocated" - so during the install process how does that unallocated space get turned into usable space?
Any link for the build I need would be very appreciated. Not trying to get anyone to do the work for me, with all the different builds and install files, its complicated for a first timer.
Thanks for help

No, CM7 will run on the Nook HD.
You do not have to root stock to run CM from SD. You can run CM10.1 from the SD and leave stock intact. So you can boot back and forth. If you do, I recommend the hybrid install here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36668001
It runs more quickly and has more stability. But be warned the instructions can be confusing.
There are no dual boot options that allow you to fully install two systems to internal memory.
And that old Nook Color SD that you used is different than how the Nook HD SD is installed. But you do have to follow directions to get everything to work and fit.

No, the updates are for internal memory only. They will not work on any SD. That is why the OP was asking for some way to convert them to this scheme.

Another question regarding the Nook hd+ tablets without internal memory, whether the use of the application lagfix / trim can cause more damage and may lead to the inability to boot or damage SD card or SD card controller inside the tablet.

You should not need lagfix on an SD setup, especially a no-emmc one. And nothing you do should effect the ability to boot from SD.

Nook fails boot into recovery ...

My Nook HD plus will no longer boot into recovery.
An error message that an install failed and to contact Barnes & Nobel tech support.
I have CyanogenMod version 10.1.3-ovation and would like to upgrade to 10.2 ovation (Jelly Bean).
I tried TWRP Manager but itdoes not work either.
My Nook will boot up normally and I can use the Cyanogen version rather than the stock Nook OS.
How can I fix my Nook?
Thanks
Carl

The problem is you did not install CWM to your internal memory. That installed failed message is from stock recovery which is still installed. Go to the dummies guide and install CWM to internal memory.
This comment assumes you installed CM to internal memory replacing stock. If you installed to an SD and stock was left intact, then the answer does not apply.

Been so long since I did this, I forgot the details.

I borked my 32gb micro SD card.
I can format it but when I write data
On it, the contents is scrambled.
Seems like it needs a low level format.
Any fixes or do I need a new SD card?

I originally used Win32DiskImager on my 32GB MicroSD card and it transformed into a 4GB card.
But, it did allow me to root my Nook and install JB.
Later I learned about SDFormatter and through some manipulation got it back to 32GB and allowed
me to downgrade from JB to ICS. At the time JB was nightly and I had some problems with it.
But, now the microSD card is acting flaky and I've delt with "lost semaphores", "read only", and "unsupported device"
messages.
If there is no program to restore the SD card to its original state, perhaps I just need to go out and purchase another one.

If this doesn't work the card is dead. When you put the image on with Win32DiskImager it was supposed to make the card look like a 4gb that is normal.
For the record, I figured out how to fix my 32GB MicroSD card.
I had trouble with it not working with thiese type issues:
- read only
- SDFormatter failed several times
- when I did get SDFormatter to work and then put the boot files on the SD Card, the filenames were scrambled.
- "lost semaphone" error
- "unsupported card type"
- etc.
What I think I did that fixed my SD card:
- used a different adaptor for the Micro SD card - I started with an SD adaptor, then got it working with a USB adaptor
- CHKDSK /F on Windows PC reboot
- Run SDFormatter → Option → FORMAT TYPE → FULL (Erase) (took 3 hours until completed)
- Ran MiniTool Partition to set the partition Active to make it bootable
- Now I have a 32GB MicroSD card that will boot my Nook HD plus
The reason I wanted to upgrade from CM 10.1 (ICS Icream Sandwich) to CM 10.2 (Jelly Bean) was that
when I started using my HDTV adaptor to display Netflix on my TV using the HDMI cable, the screen
would pause quite a bit on the TV during the video, but continue to play on the Nook.
Upgrading to CM 10.2 Jelly Bean fix this screen pause issue.

EMMC means Embedded Multi-Media Card. It is the internal chip that comes built into the device where all of the operating and data files are stored. It is identical to an SD but is embedded into the device. The term gets loosely thrown around as applied to anything that is internal storage.
