Hey everybody... I am trying to go back to 4.2.2 on my moto X.. There is a nice tutorial in this forum but I can't even install the drivers.. I have the latest "Motorola device manager" I have usb debugging enabled... but the device shows as XT1053 in device manager and won't install any drivers.. Does the device have to be in MTP mode or it does not matter ?
I tried reinstalling milion times nothing worked, tried on a different laptop as well nothing ...both running Windows 7/ 32bit
Any ideas ?

Try while connected to your PC switching from MTP to camera if that doesn't work. Try installing Motorola device manager while your device is connected to your PC. Also you might wanna try reboot to bootloaders. And run the Motorola device manager install while on boot loader.

ok. so I recently started using a different computer, it's windows vista. when I go to download mode, and plug the phone in the computer just says "usb device not recognized". I've got the latest drivers, and tried uninstalling then reinstalling again. any ideas as to what is going on?

Try uninstall again.
Dl usb drivers but dont install. Save them to desktop
Plug in phone
Unknown device pops up, click on message. Click install custom drivers, navigate to where you saved uninstalled drivers are. Select
This has worked for some
CM7
Ok I uninstalled any versions of the drivers, when I plugged in my phone, the computer said unknown device as usual but it is automatically installing an "unknown device" driver. When I went to select the driver manually for it, it told me that there was no need to update and it didn't give me another option.
I should probably mention that originally, the computer recognized my internal sdcard when i mounted it. Now it isn't, and it won't recognize it in any mode.

what rom are you using now? does the driver you installed came from the stock eclair or froyo. I get the same message after flashing from stock to custom roms. I just plug my phone again and the pc automatically searches and installs driver from gt i900 driver. My old PC is running win xp with android sdk manager in it aside from the kies mini it has which already has the samsung drivers which supports stock roms.
definitely wrong drivers...If your computer recognize it in normal mode as in to mount internal sd card, but says unknown device in download mode than try to download USB drivers from somewhere else...
I have noticed this that drivers from samsung website doesnt support the download mode...I have faced this problem...mine would ask for gadget serial..so i use this drivers...http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S-USB-Driver-for-Windows-x86.shtml
Hope this helps
I'm running perception 10.4. I've tried several different download sources, and it doesn't read when I mount the sd card anymore. On my windows 7 computer it worked no matter what rom I had, and I didn't have to change drivers at all. I'll try that link and see what happens
Still won't work...
This happens to me all the time when attempting to flash back to stock. What I do is just keep doing battery pulls and switching usb ports. Eventually, it works!

lol How long will that usually take until it works..
I've tried pulling the battery and switching ports at least 15 times.. nothing happens. windows installs an "unknown driver" automatically, and if I choose the galaxy s drivers for it, it says the driver isn't compatible for my device. It's not even recognizing it's a phone, or a mass storage device, or any other usb device it can be.
Unknown Device
Was this ever resolved? I have the same problem. Unknown Device in Download Mode. ADB works, PC recognizes phone in normal mode.
The phone shows up in Device Manager when in normal mode. If I use ADB to reboot download, the PC immediately drops the phone and displays unknown device in device manager.
Have tried complete uninstall/reinstall of drivers including regedit. NO JOY.
Running XP SP3. Any ideas?
after upgrading to gingerbread my pc thinks it is an i9000.
try those drivers.
i have no issues though.
Hi, looking for some help with a soft-bricked SGS i9000.
It is bricked to the point that it only shows the 'Phone--!--Computer' when switched on, or when attempting to access Recovery Mode.
I can access Download mode absolutely fine, but Windows refuses to recognise the device when it is plugged in, therefore it doesn't show up in Odin, therefore I can't flash a new ROM.
Is there anything I can try to get Windows/Odin recognising it?
(Someone on another thread suggested just unplugging and replugging the phone until Windows recognises it - should I give this a try?)
Thanks.
I assume you have tried reinstalling the drivers?
Yeah, I've removed the device from device manager, reinstalled the drivers and re-plugged it.
Then I've tried updating the drivers via Device Manager - the message I get is that the best drivers are already installed.

Uninstall whatever drivers you have installed at the moment and read this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...an always uninstall and install Samsung Kies.
try a different usb port, sometimes you can actually fool windows with that, i have had the same a couple of times, rebooting your pc or using a other pc sometimes works...
can you enter to download mode? It should be recognised by odin. If not you need an usb jig.
I had the same thing, so i looked around and someonle suggested installinog nexus S drivers and Odin recognizes your phone!!
It really works.

Hi all
I had to wipe my phone in custom recovery.
I wanted to flash it with RSD lite, as a lot of time, and i can't get it detected by my computer
I search to install drivers (wtf, they were on the computer..?!) and failed.
I gone to the configuration panel in my computer and uninstalled adb drivers
The i got "Fastboot smi S" drivers trying to install, failed too
I uninstalled moto drivers and reinstalled with the file Motorola_End_User_Driver_Installation_5.9.0_64bit.msi
rebooted
same problem...
i dont know how to make this fastboot mode detected again ....
Thx for help!
I had the same problem 2month ago with windows 8.
Instal sdk tools if you don't do that before or if it's always not working use an other computer because it's just a driver bug.

Just had the same kind of problem on Window 7 after playing with fastboot mode and various tools, this is how I solved it:
My XT890 in fastboot mode was recognized as "Unkown device"
=> I uninstalled the driver for this device.
My XT890 was thenidentified as "fastboot smi s" and would not install whatever I did
=> uninstalled "Motorola Device Manager" and "Motorola Mobile Drivers Installation 6.3.0"
=> reinstalled Motorola Device Manager (get it there : motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/88481 , sorry new users cant post links)
then I plugged back my phone in fastboot mode and Windows correctly installed the drivers
dont have the phone anymore, but thx for sharing your experience, might be useful if anybody meets this problem again in the future.
have a nice week.
Hi guys. I just installed PACman ROM latest version on my previously stock Atrix HD. Now, I can't read my Atrix HD on my computer. I already installed motorola device manager and still can't read. Is there a driver that I need to install? Thanks

Because developer mode isn't enable,
Setting --->About Phone--->hit build number 7 times.
Settings -->Developer options--->Android Debugging
rock on.

Turn on USB debugging, while connecting your device to system, reboot it without disconnecting. Also if it prompt for RSA key access check always allow this computer and accept it....

Tried your suggestions, guys. But its still not working.
I tried the 7 clicks. It showed that I have developer access. Then I turned on USB debugging and restarted the phone. No notification about USB debugging, my computer still doesn't detect it.

No adb/debgging is normal on the custom roms. Haven't had adb in at least 2 weeks.

Can you give details as to what computer/os you are running?
Does it charges when you plug the phone into the computer?
With or without developer mode enabled, your computer should still respond to the phone. If it doesn't then the problem is the computer.

Yeah its charging. Drivers tried installing but it says that it was not successfully installed. It also shows as unknown device.
I'm running Windows 7 64bit. It can detect fine back when it was stock. The problem only showed up after I installed PAC rom
The drivers can be corrupted for no good reason try deleting and re-installing.

Can't use MTP or Camera mode (at least on my linux box I can't). All I know is adb doesn't work and that's the only reason I have to plug into usb...I unmount my sd and plug it into my PC to do file transfers (or adb push from recovery)...adb does work in recovery, just not the system.

Same things happen on my linux box...problem showed up the same time for me as well....installed a 4.2.2 rom...
//this is a known issue....related to the kernel and usb drivers (started about three weeks ago) Use an earlier, first week of June or so, kernel if you need adb/usb...thought I don't recommend doing that.

+1 try to delete them in safemode to ensure that the old drivers are gone for good.
I did try PAC once and it connected to my win 7 64bit without any issues.

I had this problem.
Step 1: Enter system Settings>Developer options.
Step 2: Tick "Android debugging", "USB debugging notify" (makes it easier to know if connection is successful), and change the "Root acess" setting to "Apps and ADB".
Step 3: Reboot Phone and connect to computer.
This is what I did and I haven't had a problem since. Hope this helps

Why isnt my device not showing up? I want to be able to just run the test software right onto my phone...
Try connecting another device and re-installing drivers alongwith changing the usb debugging option.

check you Device Manager, if you see a yellow mark beside your phone, it is absolutely because of ADB Driver
