Hi guys,
There's several factors for me to consider between stock rom vs custom rom ( cm, aokp, aosp, pac etc etc), for instance:
Customizability
Features
Battery life
When I'm on stock, I feel like changing to custom rom,
when I'm on custom, I feel like changing to stock rom.
I can't really *stay* on a specific ROM.
Here's what I found out:
In Custom ROM:
Halo
Pie
Hide navigation bar
Tons of things to customize
In stock:
Small apps ( not that I need them to survive, but its good to multitask, like during browning, I can use calculator simultaneously.
Sony lockscreen ( I like this sexy lockscreen tho, anyone knows theres a similar feature like this for custom ROM? )
Walkman?
I used to fully depends on pie when I'm on custom ROM, because in that way, I can fully utilize the 1080p on our phones ( am I not right ? )
Then everything will be on fullscreen! :good:
I'm currently using Miui ROM, nice looking and lots of cool feature too! But somehow playing games is not as smooth as in stock / custom ROM.
Thinking of flashing to custom rom again due to pie feature, but it will be a hassle to switch back to stock rom because we have to flash ftf file, root, and bla bla, all those procedures are time consuming.
I know there's some apps that can replace those feature I missed from custom rom, like pie control, gmd auto hide, gmd gesture and xposed framework, gravity box, but don't u guys think that most of them are just consuming the ram and some of the apps are ( not sure about this ) draining battery as it needs to run on background everytime?
And what makes u all to decide which rom for you to flash over? Users from both side please share your experience, and what you do to replace those thing u missed.
-------------------------------------------------
Also, there's this MOD call viper4android or v4a which many of you have known it long ago, then there comes this PureXaudio from Zeroinfinity and Ac!d Engine.
pxa and ac!d engine uses sony official driver and uses hardware integration from our Xperia Z, while v4a are meant for a universal sound mod, but received tons of good review.
Anyone tried compare between those 3 in our xperia z? Which gives better clarity, bass?
Please advice and gives some experience.
Cheers :highfive:
So first I think you always utilize 1080p on stock. (if anyone cant confirm that please tell us).
And i use much xposed modules and the battery life is awesome with stock 4.3. I had 5.5h screen on time while using whatsapp, tapatalk, browser(chrome) and walkman the hole day.
But if you want really good screen on time, there on xda is a thread with some tips that you can achive 7h screen on time(i think with playing games).
And i use pxa and its great.

I can't utilize 1080p on stock as there's navigation bar, and i'm not using any mod / app to hide it.
I read about the thread that you're saying, but even on stock ( not miui ) I can only barely achieve 4 hours with minimal usage ( whatsapp + browsing only )
yea, i used pxa in earlier version, v16 - v18, they're incredible, but im hoping someone who tried those 3 and give a review.
Aha you mean that you want use full screen(no navbar, no satusbar)?
Yeah and youre using chrome right?
If you use some of the tips there you will have. Much better scree on time! Also if you use doomlords kernel.

you are 100 % true @xIceCream , i think 90 % of people here can't stay on one rom ,
i used to have sony xperia s , the only thing i miss and i will always miss is the dual boot 2 roms
i used to have stock + pac
1 reboot and change the rom and experience in couple of secs
i wish we see it here at xperia z
Chrome drains your battery. Use an other brwoser and remove chrome for saving battery.
I think there are mods for full screen.

Gesendet von meinem GT-I9000 mit Tapatalk
can u please tell me if the miui camera is good like in 2.3.6 xxjw4 ? The camera is excellent in my gb and can take pic while video recording but zoom like in all gingerbread is jerky and unlike the ics cause there is no slider but how is the camera in MIUI ? Plus assist... also hear that the battery drainage is not good. Is this true ? If miui then can u please recommend me a good galnet miui ? Thanks !

This is an individual choice. JW4 is better battery life and stable, MIUI more functional.
You can say a lot of pluses and minuses in all firmware versions, the choice just for you.
Mintberry MIUI. nuff' said
JW4 comes from samsung and has that wonderful feature where your battery drains after charging to 100% while still plugged. Samsung says it's to protect you from overcharging and exploding batteries. I've never seen any other phone doing this and exploding but whatever. I don't like it as it as it prevents me from doing lots of stuff so I use MB MIUI that doesn't do this and remarkably manages to keep from exploding as well.
I really can't say anything from jw4's camera. I can speak about MB MIUI's however. Using glitch13.1 as kernel i have no problems with photos. I don't record video much but the few times i did i didn't notice any problems. I always record/shoot at top quality - if something's worth recording, it's worth recording as best as can be. I can always compress further later if needed.
Here's a pic i took today with miui's camera. Light conditions weren't the best and it was took in a hurry (it gets better if i take the time to do it) but i guess you can use it to get the idea:

I've been using the same rom a few months now, i can safely say i have no trouble with any "drainage" with miui. That used to happen a long time ago, latest GB versions have that corrected. To clarify, i have facebook, email (gmail pushing and default email client checking every 1h), manga watcher verifying for new episodes dropbox uploading automatically my photos, wireless and BT (connect to the car) always on and several other stuff going on. Battery easily lasts 1 or 2 days. The reason it doesn't is because i usually read A LOT with my phone. Having the screen on for about 4 or 5h a day drops the battery to 30 or 20%. That's not drainage, that's excess of use
I do not use mobile data, i keep it on 2G at all times.
I've replaced stock launcher for Go Launcher Ex. I recommend doing this, miui's stock launcher is very unorganized and i also get to use their brilliant Go widgets (facebook, calendar, etc)
Have around 590Mb In my data/data folder and the phone's still lightning fast (had to do the copy /datadata folder trick to prevent FC's when i reached around 570Mb)
Not sure if the new MB version has the bells and whistles of JW4 like face unlock, but seriously, apart from showing off to friends, who uses this anyway
you are very kind. thank you. I will download mintberry miui and in a couple of days let u know. pls tell me one more thing ( sorry for being a pain! ) HDMI don't work with miui ? Thx !

don't think sgs supports hdmi in any way but i think there was a thread a while ago about that. if you mean tvout, with their own RCA-like cable i'm not sure if it does. Think that was a samsung feature, if so, most likely no. cyanogen based roms don't usually carry samsung exclusive features.
I don't have any to test so i wouldn't know but try searching a bit around the forum, particularly in the MB MIUI thread. i'm sure someone asked that before.
thanks !

Hey guys,
Currently I am running slim bean 2.2 but I am looking for a rom with a better battery usage. Could you recommend one? Other than a long lasting battery I am not so eager about the fastest performance due to my heavily used nexus 7. I use the phone just for calls, some mails, calendar, Facebook, and just a little browsing on the go.
Thanks!

Exactly how long do you want it? I get 50-60% at the end of the day using CM10 nightly with either stock kernel or semaphore with 110OC. Normal use.
That is better than mine. I usually have like 10 to 20% with just half an hour to an hour of display on time.
I don't know which rom or kernel it was but I remember that I once had 4 hours of display on time on one day. It was probably froyo. That was great.

In the end every person has his own requirements. But if you want lots of screen time, than ROM won't make much difference cause in the end it's your screen that uses energy not the cpu. Personally I'd go for a custom kernel like Semaphore and then undervolt a bit, use powersave governer and then you'd have quite a lot of battery time.
I just wanted to state briefly that my battery drain is gone. I did a full wipe but this time downloaded all the apps from the store again and didn't use titanium.
I don't know why that fixed it but somehow it did. Just wanted to let you guys know.

Has anyone installed Stock ROM on the R819 and can post his experiences? I am specially interested if one is able to optain root access and wether it is stable in daily use or not ...
Thanks a lot,
Stefan
What do you mean with "stock rom". Stock Oppo rom or Vanilla Android? You can root both with Framaroot, and yes, they are both usable in daily use. Video camera does not work correctle with the unofficial Vanilla rom.
Yes, sorry, I was talking abtut the Vanilla ROM

I'm using it for quite a while now and haven't experienced any issues at all!

My sister has buy this phone yesterday. The first impressions of this phone is the screen is sharp but smooth on my eye, responsible, long life battery. But the camera is too bad if flash light is on (on night). If you take a photo on day, the image is look great. Although processor is quad core, i fund sometimes lagging.
Hello,
I just got myself an optimus 4x HD and i was wondering why it so slow and hanging everytime when i want to open the menu. Also the battery life is very poor.
I read that the tegra 3 is very nice powerful and smart power saving.
So what can i do to get that effect?
I got the latest android STOCK ROM installed and the stock kernel.
I want to flash cyanogenmod only when i 100 percently know that this will fix my problem.
(When i do can i get official roms? I had an XU before and there was no official CM ROM for it)
Thanks in advance and sorry for my bad language (im using tapatalk and the battery is going low very fast so i got to hurry )
Tegra 3 itself is, but the p880 isn't. You can't do really much. There are tweaks that give you a bit better performance OR battery life. Best battery life is on stock, with tweaks you may reach the same on custom roms. Custom roms tend to have better performance. There are plenty of official roms for the device.
Damm it well ill try official cm rom and a custom kernel there are plenty of them so there is nothing i can do now?

Actually i find custom roms to be friendly with battery.
With my device and stock roms i get about 2h screen and and 8-9h overall life.
With custom roms - about 2.30h screen and 11h. overall.
i use only 2g, wi-fi always on, screen brightness 35%.
no auto sync, no location detection.
According to me, this settings are FAR away from battery drainage, still the device battery life sux.
3 Major drawback with p880
- absurd battery life
- camera quality is very bad for 8mp, it makes pics more like 5mp
- overheating constantly, no matter what rom, kernel or settings
Yeah i noticed that... well actually in winter the overheating point is not that bad... got an alternative to LG P880? Maybe with Tegra 4 or K1 (acutally never heard of smartphone with K1 inside)
Tapatalking ^^
With Nova Launcher and Leandroid it works pretty good
Try it its smooth and battery will last little bit longer
Tapatalking ^^
You have to think of the p880 as an alfa romeo 8c,
great specs, good design, good components but a shopping cart has better handling
on stock JB ROM, i had to disable the hidden MLT to get rid of the lags, to a certain extent
now on Beanstalk 4.4.4010 with Archidroid's optimizations + iodak v10 CM kernel, my battery is lasting over a day (with light usage 1.5-2hrs onscreen time). never even got close to that with stock JB ROM.
Performance is also much better on the said ROM and kernel
Hey folks!
I'm really loving my Sony Xperia Z1 after all the mods I've installed, such as 4K and 120fps video, Pen Mod and even stereo loudspeaker support.
Now my phone is getting a little sluggish, and since I've always loved Stock Android I'm seriously thinking about putting Cyanogenmod on it. I've done this a lot on my previous Xperia S but I've always reverted back to the OEM's stock version, even though it may have been slower.
Mostly because whenever I choose a ROM, I lose more features than I'm getting. So right now if I were to put Cyanogenmod on the Z1, I already know the camera is going to be much worse. But I might be able to live with that. Now I only need to know if I can still have stereo loudspeaker support, and even 120fps slow motion video somehow. It should be possible...
So I'm hoping this thread can be a general thread on all differences between Sony's stock KitKat ROM and CM11.
If you're running CM11, please do tell me all about it. Do you prefer it to Sony's KitKat? Is there any functionality you're really missing? Are you even able to flash any Z1 mods? And is CM11 actually as fast as stock Android on the Nexus 5 with the same chipset for example?
Thanks a bunch in advance! I'll make sure to press the 'thanks' button if you can help me out here
Would like to have a first hand experience as well.
How I see it:
Good:
Light Rom
Xposed not needed, so ART works
Custom recovery with nandroid backup
AOSP keyboard
Bad:
More bugs to be expected
No stock camera app/quality
Currently the cons are kind of keeping me from doing it.
ugh the themes are so flawless! I wish I had the guts to do the switch, but I take too many pics =(
think you miss out on STAMINA mode as well?
Can anyone share the battery life on (the latest) Cyanogenmod?
Currently I'm getting 4 hours of screen on time on Stamina mode. Anything less would be insanely low, and anything higher would be interesting :cyclops:

Tried Cyanogenmod 11 M9 and M10 for a month, and I'm officially back to Sony stock ROM.
Main reasons:
- Battery life, I get over 4 hours screen time using Sony stock ROM, vs 2 and a half hours using Cyanogenmod
- Camera, yes, definitely, even if Sony doesn't have perfect algorithms, the picture quality difference is abysmal between both ROM's.
- STAMINA mode, self explanatory.
- Updates, lately, Sony has improved the update cycle for the applications and OS, Z1 was the first non-Nexus device to get Kit Kat 4.4.4

Thanks for the details!
This is why I recommend Sony to all my non-modding friends. The stock rom is actually usable and not significantly worse than AOSP
Currently with Xposed there is absolutely not a feature I am missing against CM.
cm :good:
have app2sd theme more free more speed more customize and here is my battery slimkat rom
