So it sounds like Fido is in the middle of rolling out a bunch of free lower-end phones to their customers. They just shipped me an S3 mini which I plan on using to replace my current phone which is already running a version of Cyanogenmod. I haven't found any threads about rooting/installing cyanogenmod for it's model number though (SM-G730W8). Closest thing I got was this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2469413
I don't know if that method works with this model though, and even if I did that method, would I be able to install Cyanogenmod as well?
Same problems. Also try to unlock it without luck

Is it possible to find carrier branded ROMs for this handset?
I saw on SamMobile but the list is very short!!!
Thanks
is very dificult, but you can put any rom of any country on your galaxy plus.

I thought about that...
My wife has an I9001 but I need the branded ROM before flashing a new one in case of warranty need... How can I save the one she has now for future reflashing?

Only using CWM/Faemod (backup option in there) but still it would be hacked then. You'd need to go back to the stockrom mentioned in the Settings --> About (model, firmware, baseband, kernel, build). What is in there? Please post and we'll tell you what ROM to use...
PS. Topic should not be in the development thread - use the Q&A for this type of questions.
My friend just bought Korea ver N7000...U+ carrier
Its a bit different from mine...it has LTE,NFC, alot of korea stuff (include U+ stuff) and maybe some other different hardware....
Planning to root & flash it with (malaysia) stock rom...
Is there anybody done this...And kind enough to give a tips or suggestion (about other rom etc)...
Thank you
general cannot recommend it, as others have flashed other model type phones with 1 letter difference and bricked their phones

Hi
I have recently purchased Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 (T-715) and rooted it. Few days back android 7.0 has released and I want to upgrade my tablet to android 7.0. It is not possible to upgrade from "About Device" menu as it gives error:
The operating system on your device has been modified in an unauthorized way. Try downloading software update using Smart Switch on your computer or visit a customer service center.

Last year same thing happened with my Nexus 7 and then I downloaded the rom and manually upgraded it. Now I want to do the same thing for my Samsung tablet but I am unable to find the rom.
Kindly guide me that from where I can download android 7.0 rom for my tablet?
Regards
Lol, you will probably never see android 7 on your device...
It's only available for nexus and the Pixel c for the moment.
And samsung will release it just for a few models.
Galaxy tab s2 may not be one of these

Its a bad news
Is there any general version of which can be downloaded and installed? like in linux kernels we have a "vanila" version which is originally released without any patches etc.
That's not true. As SamMobile published some times ago, our sm t-715 it's likely to be updated to the latest android version 7.0. Same as the other variants. There are no official informations though, but we will see in the future what happens. Personally by one side i think that our tab has the right specs to be updated, on the other side i'm afraid about two things:
1) Samsung could be lazy and forget a relatively new and high spec device to be updated
2) Developement community isn't very populated and every version of Android Nougat that will be out unofficially (if one there will ever be) will broken fingerprint support and Mobile network on LTE variants.
P.s i'm very sorry, i wish to link you to the article i saw on internet but i cannot fin it, very sorry.

Realistically, I think we will all be waiting somewhere between 6 months to 1 year, IF this tablet gets Android 7 at all.
If not, its a case of waiting for a custom rom.
If you wanted instant updates, you should have bought the Pixel C, (as the Nexus 9 is rubbish.)
tab s1 has just got android 6 so maybe there is hope for s2 and 7
I have two questions:
1. Are custom roms safe?
2. If you find any custom rom, will you post link here?
Thanks

No, never use a custom rom. All veterans here on XDA know only the North Koreans publish custom roms in hopes of tricking a newbie to download it so they can hack your computer.
If you have a friend that is using a custom rom on their phone please block there phone number if it is not too late, as a phone call from them will affect your phone as well.
Hello,
A relative has an S3 mini and she finds it slow at times; it is pretty slow indeed. I might help her out and flash a more responsive custom rom (something reactive but very stable...a suggestion perhaps ?).
However, it's a S3 mini from an Argentinian carrier (Personal). Is it possible to flash a custom ROM on it without blocking the phone ? I wouldn't want to start flashing phone only to realize I'll ended up with a locked phone.
It's a GT-l8190L (I8190LUBANA2) on Android 4.1.2. Don't know if that's enough information...
Thanks !

Yes, you can flash, it won't block the phone. Simply choose a ROM that you/she like & read the OP thread, to know if it works on I8190L variant.
Great, thanks! I'll investigate the rom section then...

Hello everyone,
I'm a very sad and unlucky owner of a NOTE 9 (N960F) which seems not to get software updates.

I was in the same situation. Think I ended up with a grey import.
I found and then applied using Odin an unlocked Samsung ROM for the UK (Service provider Software now says XEU,XEU/XEU,XSG).
Since applied I've had one OTA update.
So yes, it might be worth looking into this approach for yourself.

Nope, it's definitely not a fake note 9.

I've already downloaded the firmware, but I'm a bit worried about it..
Why did u flash an UK rom?
All I can say is it worked for me.
I was stuck with a security patch from Feb 19, it's now Oct 19 with whatever feature updates Samsung added.

Yeah but, before using Odin, your phone's firmare was for the UK? Or did u decide to install a different region firmware?
The phones origional region code was XSG, It did come to me with XEU,XEU/XEU,XSG as the region code. Provider is SAOMC.
I wonder if my problem was a baseband / firmware mismatch.
But I really don't know.

I understand, so you use your note 9 in the uk, this is why u flashed an UK Rom.
Yes, sorry, I'm in the UK.
If you go to the software information / service provider software version and look at the right most three character code on the third line of information in that section, you should get the origional country code.
But you have a very recent firmware & security patch, unless somethings not working I'd leave it for now.

It's very likely my note was sold and previously used in the UK.

It's very likely my note was sold and previously used in the UK, therefore its firmware was for the UK (XEW).
It might have been IMEI blacklisted in the UK and then sold here, in Romania.. that's why I was thinking about the possibility of bricking it, due to its status - Imei blacklisted.

Iis service work? I mean network calls etc? Here if some imei on blacklist, you cant use for calls msg and other services from carrier...
I think if you have now firmware for UK, just download last one with samfirwm and flash with odin.
3-4 months, my sister have problem with j7 pro, it updated to andoird 9, but phone says last version is android 7(not even android 8)...so we just download firmware and flash trough odin...all is fine now
I flash pretty much all software updates now as it's clear Samsung isn't going to update on time. Based on my experience as long as you have an OXM Model and use HOME_CSC it shouldn't matter and your product code won't change.
I have a similar situation with a N960U. Wouldn't get software updates, was originally an AT&T phone. Flashed with a carrier unlocked firmware (TFW, in the states) & now it's a N960U1, & gets all updates.
Also has allowed me to use a CDMA network, because it just gets better service where I live (as opposed to GSM, as it was from purchase date) & effectively debloated it as well. Already enough samsung bloat, the AT&T bloat on top was just too much.
Hope this helps.
