Can I flash any generic firmware onto UK phone - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

O2 don't seem to be releasing 4.3 anytime soon so wondering can I flash some generic on without root and not affect my phone in anyway?
Sent from my C6903 using xda app-developers app

I think you should exclude babeband from flashing, just to be sure.

Can anyone provide a step by step guide on doing this?

I git my Z1 from O2 UK and flashed it straight to generic UK firmware and I've never had any issues.

Root I9305 on mac

I have a question!
Does anyone know how to root I9305 on Mac using heimdall?
Cheers!
Buy/build a windows or Linux PC. Don't support such a company.
However I will support using a Samsung device:
You can root it on the device using Mobile Odin
It costs a good $3
It's a bit hard to meaninglessly fork out $3 for no reason so here is a version to let you trial it - https://www.dropbox.com/s/4z1639ztv7vgu17/Mobile ODIN Pro 3.45.apk
Make sure to check 'Unknown sources' in the security settings before trying to install it
I DO NOT support piracy and do not have a single piece of pirated content on my device so if you like it BUY IT
Did not know that odin worked on the phone! Can you explain how to do it? Although I rather do it in heimdall

I wasn't aware that MobileOdin worked on non-rooted devices ?
To install Odin either get it off the Play Store or off the link provided above then just click it and follow the prompts
Then tick all (like in the photo) then just press 'Flash firmware'.

That's great but your question was how to get root access and i don't understand how you can get root access using MobileOdin if your device isn't rooted in the first place.
Oh sorry! My bad! I meant installing clockworkmod after root!

Second question, I read that you are suppose to back up your Imie number. Why and does a nandroid backup do the trick?
Your IMEI is your phone's radio's unique identifier and it is often used by your service provider
Unfortunately it cannot be backed up with a simple nandroid backup
Follow this guide to backup your IMEI (only has to be done the once)

How to backup stock kernel 12.1.a.0.266

Hello friends,
I was searching for Rooting my Xperia SP 4.3 Jelly bean by doomlord's method but i found it that user are having issue after using doomlord's kernel so i am thinking after rooting my Xperis SP i will restore back the original kernel. But i have issue how do i backup original kernel before proceeding to all this method ?

You must have root for it or if you had downloaded the 4.3 ftf you must uncheck everything but kernel when flashing

You will also need to flash the CP for the modem.

I followed the directions exactly made sure the odin window looked like the picture said it should look. I honestly think that i added the rom file in safe strap and was reading and working at the same time and i forgot to flash the actual rom i kept hitting back to get to download and didnt execute the flash but im not sure cause everthing else i know i did it corectly cause i checked it 3 times . Guess thats why it said go slow and take your time.

While that is possible, there are also other reasons for failure.
We're you trying to flash in stock slot or a different slot. Always flash in stock slot with KitKat ROMs

Basically.. If you forgot to flash the ROM... One of 2 things would happen, exactly what you are saying or it would boot the stock ROM.

There is a restore to MJ5 tutorial in the general section.
If you want to restore your backup, you will need to use Odin to flash the MJ5 AP and BL and then use SS to restore. After that you should be good to go and try again.

Worked for me to go to a different rom, also. Coming from Knoxraid 5.1 with SS. I took out my sd card, did a factory reset on stock rom slot. Flashed Alliance rom, it finished but failed due to E: unable to mount /systemorig'. Put my sd card back in, booted to download mode in SS, Flashed the MJ5 AP and BL in odin. Left auto reboot on and it passed and rebooted straight into my Alliance rom. Lost all my personal data but if your looking at bricked phone you don't care.

Update center

After updating to kitkat, the update center doesn't show any app update (Walkman, movies nor Album).
Does anyone experienced this?
How to solve it?

You can't solve that because that's not bug, you can wait for Sony to bring new app updates or find new versions of apps here on forum and update it manually.

Is your bootloader unlocked ? ?
My phone's bootloader is unlocked and I thought ? maybe it's because of an unlocked ? bootloader on 4.4 that you won't receive OTA, anymore.

Do you mean to say SONY hasn't released any OTA update for applications for those that are on Kitkat, yet?
My nephew received OTA update for WALKMAN and I didn't but he's on 4.3, yet.
